After Transmigrating as the Omega Fiance of the Cannon Fodder Top - Chapter 4
Shu Baiyu stared at the soft pink color of the patch, remained silent for a few seconds, then reached out to take it and casually pulled back his hood.
His hair was naturally a bit long, falling loosely over the prominent area of his back neck. As Lu Xingzhou sat beside him, he looked down and saw the deep teeth marks left on the gland.
During the temporary marking last night, he hadn’t held back. Without any romantic or lingering thoughts, he had simply fulfilled his role by biting down directly. As a result, the marks left behind were much heavier than average. It was still a vivid red circle; anyone seeing it would think this Omega’s partner lacked both grace and concern.
Lu Xingzhou hadn’t expected Shu Baiyu to go out like this today. He froze for a moment. “…You didn’t put on a suppressant patch?”
Shu Baiyu merely lowered his head, lifted his hair with one hand, and with a “snap,” slapped the pink patch onto his back neck. He looked up: “It’s on.”
Lu Xingzhou’s expression turned complicated. He could already guess what kind of rumors would circulate around the school later.
Shu Baiyu didn’t feel like anything was wrong. After applying the patch, he tucked the rest away. Taking advantage of having a “native” of the ABO world to talk to, he consulted him:
“Do I need to take a suppressant shot today?”
Lu Xingzhou paused again. “Did you take one yesterday?”
He shook his head.
Lu Xingzhou was thoroughly shocked. He turned his full attention toward him, scanning his entire body. When Shu Baiyu approached today, he hadn’t smelled a heavy pheromone scent. Confirming it now, he found no obvious pheromones on the boy at all—he didn’t seem to be in heat.
Yet, the pheromones he smelled in the restroom last night were so dense that, combined with the boy’s state at the time, it couldn’t have been anything other than a heat precursor. So why was Shu Baiyu acting like nothing happened?
Shu Baiyu felt Lu Xingzhou’s gaze scanning him up and down several times. Without panic, he turned to face him: “Is it terminal?”
“…”
Lu Xingzhou withdrew his gaze, hiding his emotions beneath his thin eyelids. He only said, “You’d better go to the hospital for a check-up.”
Shu Baiyu replied, “I’m not sick.”
Lu Xingzhou didn’t push further. But his thoughts involuntarily drifted back to last night. He remembered the sentence Shu Baiyu had murmured during the “heat precursor.”
“Smells so good…”
His lip line tightened, and a flicker passed through his eyes. Could Shu Baiyu actually smell his pheromones or not? Was the innocence he was displaying now genuine stupidity or… an act?
Shu Baiyu sat right next to him, and after asking that question, he didn’t spare another ounce of attention on the man. His drowsiness had mostly faded. After adjusting to the patch by tilting his neck, he looked around the classroom.
The teacher was lecturing on who-knows-what. Most students had their heads down playing on their phones or were flat-out sleeping. The teacher continued the lecture as if oblivious; they were two separate worlds.
He scanned the room and quickly located the protagonist of the novel: Qi Yan.
Finding him was easy. Among the few students actually listening to the lecture, he was one of them. A few seconds after Shu Baiyu’s gaze landed on him, Qi Yan seemed to sense it and turned around, locking eyes with him.
Shu Baiyu had no reaction, but Qi Yan’s brow furrowed sharply. He immediately turned back, clearly unwilling to look a second longer.
Bored, Shu Baiyu withdrew his gaze, stared at the blackboard for a bit, and slumped back onto the desk.
When he woke up again, someone was tapping on his desk. After two crisp raps, he lifted his head to see Lu Xingzhou withdrawing his hand.
The bell had rung a while ago. He watched the students streaming out of the classroom, sat expressionless for a moment, and then realized he needed to make way for Lu Xingzhou to get out.
Wei Li was already standing at the back door, leaning against the frame and secretly observing them. As Lu Xingzhou stepped out from the corner, he headed straight for him.
Shu Baiyu checked his phone; it was the perfect time for an early lunch. A few seconds later, he stood up and left the classroom as well.
The two who had met at the back door weren’t in a rush, chatting as they walked at a leisurely pace. Walking behind them, Shu Baiyu heard the loud-mouthed Wei Li throw an arm around Lu Xingzhou’s neck. “I didn’t really eat breakfast. How about we head to the cafeteria for a meal?”
Shu Baiyu lowered his head and silently followed the two of them. It was on the way, and they were essentially leading the way for him.
The two didn’t seem to notice they were being followed. Wei Li continued his one-sided monologue. It wasn’t until his eyes wandered that he realized something. He stiffly leaned in to whisper to Lu Xingzhou: “Brother Lu… I think someone is stalking us…”
Hearing this, Lu Xingzhou glanced sideways. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a hooded head with a few strands of long bangs sticking out. He calmly retracted his gaze.
Beside him, Wei Li was both excited and nervous, rambling incessantly. “First time! First time someone’s stalked me… I mean, this damn charm of mine actually attracted a stalker. How should I handle this?” He rubbed his hands and turned to Lu Xingzhou. “Brother Lu, why don’t you give me some advice?”
However, his usually indifferent “Brother Lu” glanced at him and said, “I suggest you don’t overthink it.”
Wei Li choked but wouldn’t give up. “Look, that person has followed us the whole way. Looks like an Omega. Huh, actually looks a bit familiar…”
Just as he was about to take a closer look, Lu Xingzhou suddenly spoke: “Shu Baiyu.”
Wei Li: “!”
It really was! Wei Li scratched his face awkwardly and peeked at Lu Xingzhou. “Uh… what’s he doing following us? He can’t just be going to the cafeteria, right?”
Lu Xingzhou remained unfazed, his tone indifferent: “I don’t know.”
Shu Baiyu was unaware of the commotion the two in front of him had gone through in the span of a minute. He followed them with his head down until they reached the school cafeteria. At the entrance, he parted ways with them.
Wei Li kept an eye on him. Seeing him enter the cafeteria and walk decisively toward the furthest window, he muttered to himself, “…He really is here to eat.”
Lu Xingzhou didn’t pay much mind, though his eyes flickered slightly when Shu Baiyu lined up at the “Seafood Porridge” window. After that, he showed no further reaction.
Shu Baiyu’s mind wasn’t on them at all. Upon entering, the first thing he saw was the sign for seafood porridge. When he joined the queue, he realized it was unexpectedly long. But since he was already in it, leaving to choose something else seemed like too much trouble, so he stood silently at the back.
Unexpectedly, the two Alphas in front of him were scanning the area restlessly. They eventually spotted him. Immediately, they began nudging the person standing straight in front of them, winking and whistling provocatively when they turned around: “Hey, Qi Yan, that little Omega is here again.”
Qi Yan’s brow knitted tightly. He was clearly disgusted by Shu Baiyu’s constant intrusions into his life. He didn’t turn around, instead giving the two laughing Alphas a cold, warning look.
The two Alphas clearly didn’t care. Seeing him ignore them, they turned their mockery toward Shu Baiyu.
“Yo, so you’re the ex-boyfriend? Still haven’t given up, huh?” The one who spoke first was heavily built, while the other was a bit scrawnier. Both had lewd expressions, their eyes roaming over Shu Baiyu repeatedly.
Shu Baiyu recognized Qi Yan and hadn’t expected to run into him here. But then he recalled the plot—unlike him, the original host had followed Qi Yan to the cafeteria. He was harassed in line, and Qi Yan eventually helped him. After that, the original host’s feelings for the protagonist grew even stronger, and he clung to him even more.
However, Shu Baiyu had no desire to follow the plot, so he chose to ignore them.
“I heard you were the first one to date him. He’s our school hunk—how was the taste? Did he get you? Was it so good that you have to chase him like this?” Seeing no reaction, the Alpha’s eyes grew even more vulgar. “Why the hood? Dressing so tightly, how are you gonna seduce an Alpha? Come, let me teach you…”
With that, he suddenly reached out toward Shu Baiyu.
Wei Li had been checking on Shu Baiyu from time to time. When he noticed the trouble, he told Lu Xingzhou. Lu Xingzhou, having seen Shu Baiyu beat an Alpha the night before, didn’t step in immediately. Instead, he observed Shu Baiyu’s every move with a look of someone watching a play.
Qi Yan was in the middle of the line. Almost the second the two Alphas moved, he reached his limit and turned around. His voice was icy: “Are you two sick in the head?!”
But before he could act, he saw Shu Baiyu—who had just had his hood knocked off—suddenly radiate a low, dark pressure. Then, the arm that the Alpha had reached out to grope him with was suddenly grabbed and twisted.
With a scream of “Agh—!”, the other Alpha was kicked squarely in the crotch, doubling over and gasping in agony.
Qi Yan had only stepped in because he couldn’t stand the behavior of the two Alphas. Even if he didn’t like Shu Baiyu’s pestering, he would never allow such a thing to happen. He hadn’t expected to see this. His own lower body felt a phantom chill, and he instinctively stepped back.
The commotion wasn’t small; people in the cafeteria were looking over. The two Alphas, knowing they were in the wrong and red-faced with embarrassment, scurried out of the cafeteria.
Shu Baiyu ignored everyone’s stares, his gaze pausing only when it swept over Qi Yan.
Qi Yan’s face darkened, assuming Shu Baiyu would use this chance to get close to him. Before the boy could speak, he stated clearly: “I’ve told you, I won’t have any more contact with you.”
To his surprise, Shu Baiyu just gave an “Oh” and looked at him. “Are you in line?”
He was stunned. “…What?”
Shu Baiyu glanced at his stance outside the queue, gave him exactly one second to react, and then walked right past him. Having done so, he silently counted the people left in line and nodded.
Good. Three people gone at once. Faster now.
Qi Yan, who had been mysteriously squeezed out of the line: “…?”
By the time Shu Baiyu finally got his bowl of seafood porridge, several minutes had passed. He was about to look for a seat when a pair of legs appeared in front of him. Looking up, he saw Lu Xingzhou’s “frigid” face.
At that moment, Lu Xingzhou issued an invitation: “Together?”
Shu Baiyu looked at him and then at Wei Li, who was running toward them. He refused flatly: “We aren’t close. No.”
Lu Xingzhou’s brow twitched. Before he could speak, Wei Li caught up. “Lu Xingzhou! Why did you run over here? I finally found a table…”
They were close, and Wei Li hadn’t lowered his voice. Shu Baiyu hadn’t even taken two steps when he heard him say Lu Xingzhou’s name. He froze instantly.
Lu Xingzhou didn’t pursue him further after the rejection and was about to walk away with Wei Li when he heard rapid footsteps behind him. Shu Baiyu had caught up, carrying his bowl of hot porridge.
Without a hint of awkwardness, Shu Baiyu asked: “Where are we sitting?”
Lu Xingzhou raised an eyebrow slightly. “I thought we weren’t close?”
Facing Wei Li’s curious stare, Shu Baiyu remained expressionless: “You misheard. We’re close.”
Lu Xingzhou made no other comment, but his eyes seemed to give a long, drawn-out “Oh.”
Wei Li, unaware of the exchange they just had, was confused. “…What’s this about being close or not? Wait, is the porridge not cooked?”
When they returned to the seat Wei Li had claimed, Shu Baiyu sat down right next to Lu Xingzhou without being asked. Lu Xingzhou gave him a brief, indifferent glance, but otherwise offered no reaction.
