After Transmigrating as the Scumbag Alpha in an Otherworld Novel, I Ended Up with the Villain - Chapter 22
Wang Qingyue laughed. “Not bad. In just a few brief encounters, you’ve already managed to suss out her personality.”
Xiang Tiange stepped out from behind the bar. “It’s not ‘sussing out,’ it’s just a feeling. Why do I feel like you’re acting a bit salty?”
Wang Qingyue lowered her head to change the subject. “Stop with the ‘feelings.’ You go upstairs to look after Teacher tonight; I’ll stay down here.”
Xiang Tiange propped herself up on a table, puzzled. “Didn’t we agree to take turns day by day? Weren’t you down here yesterday, too?”
Wang Qingyue turned her head to look at Xiang Tiange. “I feel more at ease keeping watch down here. You don’t know those people; who knows if they actually want to help us?”
Xiang Tiange walked around behind Wang Qingyue and squeezed her shoulders. “True. That’s why I didn’t let them go up to the second floor. Don’t worry so much. Let’s go out.”
Outside, as soon as Ye Hai saw Xiang Tiange emerge, he quickly said, “I couldn’t find a pillow.”
Xiang Tiange headed straight for the shelves. “I’ll look for you. I should be able to find one, but if I really can’t, then there are simply none left.”
Ye Hai followed close behind, nodding. “Search well then. No rush.”
Xiang Tiange stood before the shelves, but she didn’t rush to search. Instead, she stood still and addressed the group: “When you want to rest, you can go to the restroom to wash up. There’s only half a bucket of water in there right now, so use it sparingly. If you want more water, you’ll have to trade something for it.”
Zhang Tian stood up, sighing. “Wow, your conditions here are a bit rough.”
Xiang Tiange ignored the reactions and crouched down to find a pillow.
Wang Qingyue followed behind, explaining to everyone: “It’s a matter of give and take. After all, it’s the same at your base. Just get used to it.”
Zhang Tian simply sat back down and shouted toward the neighboring shelf: “An Le! Once you’ve settled in, come over and study.”
Hearing the shout, Su Xinge took An Le by the hand, stood up, and walked over to Zhang Tian.
Zhang Tian looked up at Su Xinge and asked, “What are you doing here?”
Without blushing, Su Xinge answered, “I’m coming to watch. Maybe I can supplement a thing or two. Two-on-one is better than one-on-one. You don’t have to split the merit points; you still keep them.”
Zhang Tian made room for her. “Makes sense. Let’s do it together then.”
Su Xinge pulled An Le down to sit.
At first, Su Xinge just listened. But later, as Zhang Tian spoke, his words began to link up with some of her latent memories. She was actually able to supplement a point or two. Fragmented memories and knowledge don’t vanish entirely; they gradually resurface with repeated stimulation.
By the end of the lesson, both An Le and Su Xinge were still full of enthusiasm.
However, Zhang Tian waved his hands dismissively. “That’s enough for today. I’m too tired. We need time to rest. We’ll continue tomorrow if we have time.”
An Le nodded obediently. “Okay!”
Su Xinge had also gained a lot. She led An Le back to Lin Yuxuan’s side. Seeing them return, Lin Yuxuan asked with a smile, “You’ve finished your studies?”
Su Xinge stood behind An Le and replied, “An Le is smart and learns quickly. She’ll probably have it down in a few days.”
Su Xinge didn’t notice the plural “you” in Lin Yuxuan’s words—or rather, her brain instinctively filtered it out.
Lin Yuxuan picked up a pillow and asked, “Which of you wants to use this?”
An Le shook her head; the thought of sleep was making her drowsy.
Su Xinge spoke up: “You use it. An Le isn’t heavy; she can lean against my leg as a pillow.”
Lin Yuxuan didn’t move, asking, “You’re not using it?”
Su Xinge looked down at the simple, somewhat shabby surroundings and shook her head. “No need. It is what it is. I’ll just make do by leaning against the wall for the night.”
Lin Yuxuan took the pillow back. “Alright then.”
Being away from home, finding a safe place to settle down was already a stroke of luck, let alone having these blankets to keep the chill off.
Su Xinge took out a spare set of clothes, preparing to go to the restroom to change. She had been in close contact with zombies today and felt somewhat repulsed by the grime.
At that moment, Wang Qingyue walked over and asked, “Are you still using the candles? If not, I’m putting them out.”
Su Xinge gathered her things and answered, “I still need to go to the restroom. You all go to sleep first; I’ll blow them out when I get back.”
Wang Qingyue nodded. “I’ll leave one by the restroom door. Extinguish it yourself when you come out.”
“Thanks for the trouble,” Su Xinge replied, then stepped into the restroom.
After Su Xinge finished tidying up and emerged from the restroom, the room had fallen silent, save for the occasional long or short snore and a few murmurs of sleep-talk.
She tiptoed to the shelf and extinguished the candle, then carefully made her way to the empty spot next to An Le. An Le was currently sleeping between the two women, her head resting near Lin Yuxuan, while a section of the sheet had been thoughtfully left for Su Xinge on the other side.
Su Xinge sat down, propped her backpack behind her, and leaned against the wall to relax.
The surroundings were pitch black. Night always has a way of infinitely magnifying one’s emotions.
In the past, Su Xinge didn’t like her stagnant world or its rigid rules. But now, having suddenly transmigrated, she realized those unchanging things were actually worth missing. She missed the unchanging white soft bed, the unchanging fragrant hot baths, and those stable days she had once treated as worthless.
The darkness stretched on as time drifted late.
Su Xinge’s mind hovered in the gap between light and heavy sleep. In a half-dreaming state, she was surrounded by hideous shrieks—howls like those of malicious ghosts from hell. The sound seemed endless, never ceasing.
Su Xinge struggled to wake. Gradually, sensation returned to her body, and the heaviness began to recede.
“Alert!”
In the darkness, Ye Hai was the first to break the silence, jolting everyone from their slumber.
