After Transmigrating as the Scumbag Alpha in an Otherworld Novel, I Ended Up with the Villain - Chapter 23
Su Xinge had been in a groggy stupor, but upon hearing the shout, her limbs felt as though they had been released from shackles.
She was the first to wake, though she hadn’t fully shaken off the lingering dread and horror from her dream. Standing up, she asked, “What’s the situation?”
Ye Hai’s ears were pricked, his entire body tense. He replied, “Something’s happening outside. It’s no small commotion. There are sounds of zombies, but most importantly, there are human voices.”
Su Xinge forced herself to calm down. At this moment, the only thing she could hear was her own heartbeat; she couldn’t tell if the sounds from her dream just now had been real or fake.
Wang Qingyue stood up and asked, “How could there be people? No one should be stupid enough to move around at night, right? Are you sure you didn’t mishear?”
In the darkness, she could only hear the conversation of the few people within the cramped space. She hadn’t dared to sleep deeply to begin with, and hearing Ye Hai’s voice made her instantly alert.
Ye Hai shook his head and said, “I couldn’t have misheard. The sounds are still getting closer to us.”
Wang Qingyue forced herself to remain steady. She lit a candle and said, “We have two doors here, and the second one is very sturdy. Even if zombies surround us, we should be fine.”
After a moment of thought, she decided not to go upstairs to inform Xiang Tiange. After all, they couldn’t see anything in the dark, and archery would be useless. Staying put was the safest option; this had been tested before, which was why they had established their safe point here.
Zhang Tian stood up and cursed, “Who the hell forgot their meds in the middle of the night? Looks like a peaceful night’s sleep is out of the question today.”
As he spoke, he walked to the back and patted the soundly sleeping Su San, shouting, “Hey, everyone up!”
Zhang Tian knew the situation was serious; otherwise, Ye Hai wouldn’t have woken everyone but would have kept watch alone. This meant they might need to flee or fight at any moment. Once outside, they couldn’t rely solely on the Awakened; their own alertness was crucial. The Awakened could only lead the way.
Su San shifted his body, unconsciously kicking out as if complaining that his sleep was being interrupted. The two burly men beside him simply turned their heads to sleep more soundly.
Zhang Tian frowned and kicked Su San, who was on the outside, shouting, “Zombies are here!”
Su San was jolted awake by the heavy kick. Hearing those words, he scrambled up immediately, rubbing his eyes and searching for a sense of security in the dim light. He then hurriedly woke his two companions.
Su Xinge turned around and saw that An Le’s eyes were already wide and round, looking ready for action. She reached out, intending to wake Lin Yuxuan.
Sensing someone approaching, Lin Yuxuan’s closed eyes suddenly snapped open. She said, “I’m already awake. It’s just more comfortable with my eyes closed.”
Su Xinge withdrew her hand and said, “Don’t worry too much. I haven’t even heard any noise yet.”
Unless the sounds in the dream counted.
At that moment, Ye Hai spoke again: “The sound stopped.”
Zhang Tian looked back and asked, “Does that mean the danger is gone?”
Ye Hai shook his head, his expression remaining solemn. He answered, “No. I mean the trend of the sound expanding toward us has stopped.”
Zhang Tian breathed a sigh of relief and said, “That counts as good news. Let’s observe for a while longer.”
Ye Hai nodded; he needed to observe until the sound vanished completely before he could feel at ease.
Su Xinge patted An Le’s small head and asked, “Do you want to sleep a bit more? I’ll call you if anything happens.”
An Le shook her head, her eyes still wide. She said, “I can’t sleep anymore.” She felt her body becoming a bit strange, even slightly excited.
Su Xinge didn’t push her and sat down beside her.
The group remained silent in the dim yellow light, keeping watch.
Just as everyone felt the night was endless, Ye Hai spoke: “It’s completely silent now. Everyone, get some rest. I’ll keep guarding and we’ll check the situation outside tomorrow morning.”
Zhang Tian yawned and said, “Then I’ll leave the hard work to you. Leave tomorrow to us.”
Su Xinge heard the voices and wanted to help An Le get comfortable to sleep, but when she turned, she saw An Le had already fallen asleep. Her small face looked even thinner in the yellowish glow. Lin Yuxuan, on the innermost side, still had her eyes closed. Thus, Su Xinge also leaned against the wall and drifted into sleep.
Wang Qingyue breathed a sigh of relief. Seeing that everyone had returned to sleep, she blew out the candle.
The next morning, sunlight persistently poked through every crevice to enter the room, eventually covering the shadows.
Su Xinge woke up and walked over to the shelf where Ye Hai had been. She asked Zhang Tian, “Why are you up so early? What did Ye Hai say?”
Zhang Tian had dark circles under his eyes. He propped up his chin and answered listlessly, “Ye Hai said nothing happened. I couldn’t sleep anyway, so I helped fill in for a bit.”
Su Xinge noted tactfully, “With those dark circles, you don’t look like someone who simply ‘couldn’t sleep.'”
Zhang Tian lowered his head and grumbled quietly, “What choice did I have? I had a terrifying dream last night. It was eerie, felt like sleep paralysis. After I woke up, I couldn’t get back to sleep.”
Su Xinge prodded, “What kind of dream could scare you?”
Zhang Tian rubbed his face and shook his head. “I don’t remember it clearly. I just felt surrounded by zombies, with those raspy roars everywhere.”
Su Xinge’s heart tightened. She said in a somber voice, “I had a similar dream, but…”
Before she could finish, Zhang Tian looked up and demanded, “Then why do you look like you slept perfectly well while you’re standing there mocking my dark circles?”
Su Xinge froze, then turned away, leaving only the words: “My apologies.”
She went back to her original spot, intending to check on An Le, only to see the little one still sleeping with her head tilted.
Two people having similar dreams at the same time—is it a coincidence?
At that moment, Zhang Tian followed her over and asked, “What are you running for? Should we go out and take a look now?”
Hearing the conversation, Wang Qingyue stood up and said, “Better not. What if it’s that gang? They might have left some traps.”
Zhang Tian rubbed his head and asked, “Are we just never going out, then?”
Wang Qingyue shook her head. “I’ll go to the second floor first to check the situation. You can see much further from up there.”
