After Transmigrating as the Scumbag Alpha in an Otherworld Novel, I Ended Up with the Villain - Chapter 7
“You…” Lin Yuxuan’s eyes were like torches, staring straight at Su Xinge.
Lin Yuxuan saw nothing in that clean face; the eyes were like deep pools, as if the woman belonged to a completely different world. She suddenly felt that she didn’t recognize the Su Xinge before her. This person wasn’t the cruel, cold-blooded creature in her memories—even her gestures and demeanor were entirely different.
Su Xinge… what is all this for?
Su Xinge snapped back to reality, pulled the biscuits from her pocket, and handed them to the little girl. “Eat more so you can grow. You’re far too thin. By the way, what’s your name?”
The girl took the biscuits but didn’t rush to eat. Instead, she looked up at Su Xinge with a serious expression, smiled, and said, “Thank you, big sister. My name is An Le.”
Lin Yuxuan suddenly realized that she truly hadn’t seen An Le in the base during her previous life. It was highly likely that…
She stopped that train of thought and stroked An Le’s small head, her voice gentle. “If you have any trouble in the future, you can tell me. Don’t keep it bottled up.”
At that moment, several people walked in from the lobby. Among them were the other Awakened and the people they had recruited—mostly strong, burly men.
Ye Hai stepped to the front. “All Awakened should introduce their abilities first. Then we’ll see how to split the teams.”
There was no immediate response from the room…
Unfazed by the silence, Ye Hai spoke again: “I’ll set the example. My awakening is feline-based; my most useful ability is vision—I can see in the dark.”
Liu Lindong stepped out from the corner, scratching his head and whispering, “I’m not sure what category I fall into, but my hearing is excellent. I can act as a sentry and warn you about the zombies nearby.”
No one knew how the Awakening started or when it began, but people gradually discovered that more and more Awakened abilities were animal-related. Most prominent abilities involved sight, hearing, or smell; these were known as “Support Class” abilities.
After Liu Lindong finished, he instinctively glanced toward Zhang Tian.
Zhang Tian stood up, eyebrows raised with pride. “My ability is the power to repel ordinary zombies.”
Standing behind the bar, Ye Hai tapped his glass rhythmically. “How do you repel them? Be specific, otherwise, we won’t know how to coordinate with you.”
Zhang Tian’s mouth twitched before he finally answered, “It’s like a llama spitting. Once the zombies smell the spit, they back away.”
Ye Hai asked, “Can we, your teammates, smell it?”
Zhang Tian flushed red but gritted his teeth. “As long as you endure it, you won’t be driven away by the stench.”
The group came to a sudden realization.
Su Xinge wondered privately why she hadn’t heard of such a useful ability in the novel. It seemed Zhang Tian must have died quite early on.
Ye Hai stopped tapping and smiled. “Well, that sounds quite useful!”
Liu Lindong nodded slowly beside him. “Indeed, very useful, though the range isn’t particularly large.”
Finally, all eyes fell on Su Xinge.
Su Xinge spoke calmly and at her own pace: “I’m not sure which category I belong to, but my abilities are mainly identifying directions and sensing danger.”
Lin Yuxuan frowned slightly. Su Xinge has become so low-key.
Ye Hai shook his head with a smile. “It seems we’re all Support Class.”
Everyone understood the implication: none of the four Awakened were combat-focused. No wonder the mission didn’t strictly require saving the students.
Liu Lindong explained, “Actually, many teams have been sent on this mission. They either don’t return or don’t finish. There’s a massive area between here and the campus occupied by a zombie tide. So far, no one has been able to cross it.”
Liu Lindong looked around and continued, “We have two options. One is to split into two teams to search for a viable route; this increases the statistical chance of finding a path that works. The other is to stay together. The odds of finding a path might be lower, but the benefit of numbers is obvious—we can support each other.”
Zhang Tian sneered. “Easy to say. If it were that easy to find, the Haida faction wouldn’t be posting this mission over and over again.”
Liu Lindong hesitated. “Actually, we don’t strictly have to aim for the campus. we can scavenge elsewhere. I’m here to lead the way and help decide the target. We can abandon the campus objective, but the Haida faction won’t pay out double points then.”
Ye Hai quickly spoke up: “I think it’s all the same. As long as we don’t get too close to the tide, we can find supplies nearby and get the double points. That’s how the previous teams came back. What do you all think?”
Zhang Tian was indifferent. “Same to me.”
Su Xinge thought for a moment. “No objections.”
Liu Lindong nodded. “My goal was always the campus.”
Seeing consensus, Ye Hai asked, “So, are we moving together or separately?”
Zhang Tian curled his lip. “I think we should split into two teams. One team per group is too few, but we can set a rendezvous point and meet up later. I don’t want to be dragged down by certain people.” He shot a glance at Su Xinge.
Su Xinge raised an eyebrow. “Fine, let’s split up then. I’m also afraid of getting ‘smelly.'”
Zhang Tian’s face turned beet-red as he pointed at her. “You—!”
Ye Hai raised a hand to stop them. “I still think staying together is better. We can look out for one another, and our abilities complement each other well.”
Liu Lindong nodded. “I also vote for staying together.”
The situation was at a stalemate.
After a moment of silence, Zhang Tian crossed his arms and proposed: “Why don’t we play a game? We’re split two-against-two. The winner of the game gets 1.5 votes to decide the matter.”
Ye Hai looked at Zhang Tian warily. “What game? What game could possibly decide a team split?”
Zhang Tian grinned. “Werewolf. There are exactly twelve of us here, and we can pull in Xie Ming to be the Moderator (God).”
Ye Hai was impatient. “Are you serious? I heard that in the Inner City, some Awakened play Werewolf every day. We’re heading out tomorrow—you want to play now?” He tried to keep his cool. “This isn’t the old world. What does a game like this prove?”
Zhang Tian shrugged and held out his hands. “Then how do you want to decide? Rock-paper-scissors?”
Liu Lindong looked pleased. “We could play one round. It tests teamwork and observation skills. I agree.”
Zhang Tian’s lips curled into a smirk. “Just make sure certain people don’t get called out by me for cheating or using ‘out-of-game’ logic.”
Liu Lindong understood the jab but didn’t look at Zhang Tian; his expression remained unchanged.
Ye Hai spoke again: “If we play, no ‘out-of-game’ information like hearing things can be mentioned, or you’re disqualified immediately.”
Su Xinge interrupted, “I don’t want to play. I want to rest.”
Zhang Tian put his hands on his hips. “Aren’t you the self-proclaimed ‘Game Queen’? What, can’t even handle one game now?”
At that moment, Lin Yuxuan leaned in close to Su Xinge’s ear, whispering, “I want to play.”
Su Xinge’s earlobe began to burn. She raised an eyebrow. “Fine. We’ll play.”
Ye Hai teased, “You two really are true love!”
Zhang Tian grumbled, “Who doesn’t know she has ‘thousands’ of true loves.”
Su Xinge: “…”
Zhang Tian waved his hand. “One Awakened plus their two recruits makes a team of three. We’ll add the scores of the three team members together. The Awakened with the highest total team score is the MVP and gets the 1.5-vote power.”
Meanwhile, Liu Lindong had called Xie Ming in from outside.
Since the base was established, many who went out for supplies were desperate people living day-to-day; entertainment was a necessity. Xie Ming was used to being the errand boy and knew various game rules, so he began explaining them to the group.
Since many in the Outer City didn’t quite understand, they asked for the rules to be repeated several times.
After finishing the explanation once more, Xie Ming said, “In short, the game is divided into the Good Camp and the Werewolf Camp. Just follow my instructions. Open your eyes when told, close them when told, and remember your identity card.”
Xie Ming shot a final glance at An Le and asked, “Do you understand?”
An Le nodded solemnly. “I understand.”
Xie Ming stood in the center, directing everyone. “Come, sit in a circle around me.”
The crowd shifted and soon formed a ring. Su Xinge saw Lin Yuxuan sit to the left of An Le, so she sat down on An Le’s right.
The sky grew dark, and the air turned still. A single red candle stood in the center of the circle, its flame flickering and casting a soft glow.
Su Xinge received the No. 1 card. An Le was No. 2, and Lin Yuxuan was No. 3. The cards were distributed clockwise.
Once the identity cards were out, Su Xinge peeked at hers. Her expression didn’t change at all. She glanced around at the others; their expressions varied—some faked shock, some were excited, some nervous, and some, like her, were simply observing.
“Players, please confirm your identities. Raise your hand once you have confirmed,” Xie Ming walked around the circle, eventually stopping. “The game begins. It is night; everyone, please close your eyes.”
“Werewolves, please open your eyes. Werewolves, you may choose someone to kill.”
The voice surrounded them. Su Xinge kept her eyes tightly shut, feeling the chill around her grow deeper.
…
“Seer, please open your eyes. Seer, you may choose a player to inspect.”
At the command, Su Xinge opened her eyes. The faces of the people around her looked eerily haunting in the flickering candlelight.
Without overthinking, she pointed her finger directly at No. 3.
