After Transmigrating as the Vicious Female Supporting Character, I Ran Away While Pregnant - Chapter 15
Li Ran and Mo Yueshuang were discussing the Nona dolls, while Li Sheng picked up a book she had flipped through several times but had no heart to actually study.
The doorbell rang. Li Sheng put down the book and immediately went to open the door.
Guan Tai was at the door, lugging a vegetable basket along with large and small bags of various vegetables and meats. “Oof, oof, so heavy. Li Sheng, help me out here.”
“You bought too much; we don’t need this much for one dinner.” Li Sheng’s brow furrowed slightly in disapproval. “With this much in the fridge for too long, it won’t stay fresh. There’s only me and Ranran at home; we won’t finish these before they go bad.”
“Oh, don’t nag so much yet. Hurry up and take them, my arms are about to snap.”
Li Sheng took all the groceries into her hands, standing effortlessly before Guan Tai. Guan Tai laughed while rotating his arms: “Are you really the Li family heiress? You weren’t like this when you were little. If we hadn’t grown up together, I’d suspect you’d been swapped. What kind of high-society lady is as frugal as you? Everyone else throws hundreds of thousands at a single gown. Look at your clothes—you bought this for your birthday last year.”
“Ranran used her lucky money to buy this for me,” Li Sheng said displeased. She didn’t like wasting resources, and she especially disliked people disparaging a gift from her precious daughter.
Guan Tai said a few more words to tease her, but Li Sheng stopped responding, simply standing at the door looking at him with a calm gaze.
Guan Tai realized something was off: “Did Mo Yueshuang leave?”
“No way! In the time I was out buying groceries? Didn’t we agree she’d stay for dinner? I specifically bought all this.”
“She hasn’t left; I will host her properly. Go find me two sets of reliable bodyguards.”
Hearing that Mo Yueshuang hadn’t left, Guan Tai breathed a sigh of relief: “You should have said so earlier, I felt dejected for nothing. Wait… two sets of bodyguards?”
“Yes, we’re entering the film crew soon. Ranran is still small and just returned to the country; security can’t be handled carelessly.”
“True. After all, she is the eldest grandchild of the Li family. Two sets of bodyguards are actually a bit few. Don’t worry, I’ll handle it personally tomorrow!”
Having finished, Guan Tai wanted to head inside, but Li Sheng blocked him by pressing a hand against his chest: “I can’t wait. Go do it now.”
“Can’t wait? You can’t even wait one night? Li Sheng, did you secretly get into some kind of trouble?”
Guan Tai’s expression suddenly turned serious as he advised: “If you’ve really provoked some big trouble, it’s better to go home early. Nowhere is safer than your family home.”
“There’s no trouble. Just go handle it. The crew starts work soon and Ranran is going to kindergarten; I’m afraid both you and I will get busy and won’t be able to look after her.”
Li Sheng’s words made sense, but Guan Tai felt something was fishy. How could Li Sheng be the type of person to get so busy she’d neglect her child? It was likely something had happened, but Li Sheng didn’t want to tell him.
“Alright, since you’re in such a hurry, I’ll go handle it now.”
Guan Tai turned and took two steps, then suddenly turned back, rushing to the door just as Li Sheng was about to close it: “Let me go in and say goodbye to Mo Yueshuang. Leaving like this is too impolite.”
“No need! I’ll tell her for you.” Li Sheng gave a push, and Guan Tai stumbled back half a meter.
The door closed. Mo Yueshuang saw Li Sheng holding so many groceries and hurried forward to help, asking, “Where’s Guan Tai?”
“He has urgent business to attend to. He dropped the groceries at the door and left in a hurry.”
“I see.” Mo Yueshuang knew that assistants were generally very busy, so Guan Tai’s hasty departure was understandable.
“With so many groceries, the three of us won’t be able to finish them.” Mo Yueshuang looked at the food with a slight frown: “With this much, it won’t be fresh if it sits in the fridge for long.”
“Then… why don’t you take some back with you when you leave tomorrow?”
Li Sheng had nearly lost her life for food in her past life, and Mo Yueshuang had often gone hungry as a child, frequently eating one steamed bun a day during her school years. Both had developed a habit of not wasting, so they were strangely in sync regarding the handling of these vegetables.
“Alright.”
Li Sheng asked Mo Yueshuang to go out and play with Ranran while she prepared dinner in the kitchen.
“The cooking fumes are heavy; go out and stay with Ranran first,” Li Sheng said while putting on her apron. As she reached back to tie the strings, she suddenly touched a warm, soft hand. Mo Yueshuang was standing behind her and said softly, “Okay, sorry for the trouble.”
After tying the apron strings into a beautiful bow, Mo Yueshuang secretly hid a smile while admiring Li Sheng’s “domestic chef” appearance for a few seconds.
“Guan Tai is very lucky.”
Mo Yueshuang said this before retreating from the kitchen. Li Sheng stood dazed at the cutting board holding a knife over a fish, dwelling on that sentence, unable to understand what Mo Yueshuang meant to express.
Is Guan Tai very lucky?
His mother died during his birth, his father passed away in a car accident when he was nine, and he was raised by his grandfather. Although he didn’t lack for food or clothing, his aunt always feared he would steal the family inheritance, constantly bullying him. Upon reaching adulthood, he left home after a dispute with his older cousin.
Guan Tai wasn’t actually that optimistic; he had just learned to let things go, partly because there were things he couldn’t get no matter how hard he tried. His uncle was in his prime and had two adult sons; the family fortune would never fall to him. Rather than sinking into the whirlpool of a wealthy family, it was better to pull out early.
But Guan Tai certainly wasn’t satisfied; otherwise, he wouldn’t cry about taking back everything that belonged to him every time he got drunk.
Dinner was ready. Mo Yueshuang praised Li Sheng’s culinary skills. Ranran, with Mo Yueshuang’s company, ate half a bowl more than usual and even joined Mo Yueshuang in having soup.
Mo Yueshuang didn’t usually like soup. After dinner, Li Sheng coaxed Ranran to drink soup. Ranran not only refused but used the excuse that Mo Yueshuang wasn’t drinking any to try and escape her “fate.” Consequently, Mo Yueshuang smiled, served herself a bowl, and drank it down. Left without an excuse or a role model, Ranran had to take the bowl Li Sheng handed her and gulped it down.
After dinner, Ranran wandered from the living room to her small bedroom, walking back and forth a few times. Once Li Sheng finished cleaning the kitchen, Ranran came out of her room hugging her clothes, rubbing her eyes and yawning: “Mommy, bath time.”
“Ms. Mo, please sit in the living room for a bit while I help Ranran bathe.” Li Sheng walked over, but Ranran took two steps back, asking with eyes full of hope: “I want Auntie Mo to help Ranran bathe.”
Mo Yueshuang was a bit nervous; she hadn’t had much contact with children, and bathing one felt quite daunting.
“Ms. Mo is a guest.” Li Sheng’s voice was somewhat stern. Ranran pouted and didn’t dare say more, taking Li Sheng’s hand to go to the bathroom.
Mother and daughter shared secrets while bathing.
Ranran rested her small arms on the edge of the tub, lying comfortably while Li Sheng diligently squeezed out bath gel to wash her with bubbles.
“Mommy, can we keep Auntie Mo at our house?”
“No.”
“Mommy, does Auntie Mo have children?”
“No.”
“Can I be Auntie Mo’s child?”
“…” Li Sheng said nothing, picked up the shower head, turned it on, and gave little Ranran a thorough rinsing.
“Mmph~ Mommy, ah, Mommy… Ranran is drowning!” This was a game Li Sheng often played while bathing the child. Ranran wasn’t afraid but loved it; however, after the splashing, a large part of Li Sheng’s clothes was soaked.
Ranran wiped her small hand from her forehead to her chin, shaking off the water and laughing at Li Sheng: “Mommy is bad!”
“Mhm.” Li Sheng’s lips curved into a smile. That feeling of annoyance that her daughter was being “stolen” vanished.
She calmed down and asked Ranran seriously: “Ranran, do you really like Mo Yueshuang?”
“Yes!”
“Then what do you think of the gentleman we met today?”
