After Transmigrating as the Vicious Female Supporting Character, I Ran Away While Pregnant - Chapter 16
Li Sheng was talking about Ji Ruodong, but Ranran clearly didn’t remember the man.
Seeing her small brows knit tightly together in a look of profound confusion, Li Sheng couldn’t help but smile: “If you can’t remember, don’t think about it. He’s not anyone important.”
Ranran was very obedient; since Li Sheng told her not to think about it, she didn’t. After playing happily in the water for a while, Ranran took the initiative to ask to be dried off and go out.
Li Sheng was somewhat surprised by Ranran’s cooperativeness today. Usually, Ranran loved soaking in the warm water most of all; it was impossible for her to suggest drying off without being nagged.
Li Sheng was just about to praise her for being good when Ranran suddenly said while putting on her clothes: “Ranran needs to hurry out. I can’t let Auntie Mo wait for me for a long time, or Auntie Mo will be unhappy.”
“…”
The little “dumpling” was wrapped in a bathrobe. Because she had just soaked in a hot bath, her cheeks were still crimson, and her wet hair clung to her forehead. The little one drifted softly toward Mo Yueshuang.
“Auntie Mo, Ranran is washed clean and smells sweet. Smell me.”
She raised her arm, wanting Mo Yueshuang to take a sniff. Mo Yueshuang chuckled; she had already smelled the milky fragrance on the child the moment she pounced over.
“Mhm, Ranran smells very sweet.” Mo Yueshuang cooperated fully by lowering her head to sniff. Li Ran was very happy and said giggling: “Auntie Mo smells sweet too.”
Li Sheng happened to emerge from the bathroom just then. Mo Yueshuang turned back to look at her; Li Sheng’s clothes were soaked through in a large patch and water droplets were dripping from her hair. Someone who didn’t know better would think she had suffered a fall into a pond.
“Ranran, go lie in bed. You’re supposed to sleep in half an hour.” Li Sheng picked up some of Ranran’s toys from the floor. As she passed Mo Yueshuang, she said to her: “The guest room has been converted into Ranran’s toy room. Tonight, you sleep in Ranran’s room; Ranran will sleep with me.”
Hearing Li Sheng’s arrangement, Ranran was very dissatisfied. She hugged Mo Yueshuang’s arm and acted spoiled toward Li Sheng from across the room: “Mommy, Ranran wants to sleep with Auntie Mo. Mommy is an adult; you have to learn to sleep by yourself.”
“…” Li Sheng had often suspected that Li Ran was Mo Yueshuang’s biological daughter and she was just a mom picked up halfway. At this moment, she felt certain of it once again.
“Li Ran! You may not.”
If she continued to indulge her like this, Li Ran would forget who her mommy was.
Ranran’s mood dipped, and she refused to let go of Mo Yueshuang’s hand.
Mo Yueshuang couldn’t bear to see Ranran looking wronged and sad. Her heart ached for her: “Li Sheng…”
Because of Ranran, Mo Yueshuang addressed her as “Li Sheng.” Her tone carried a plea of expectation. Li Sheng’s thoughts were slightly disrupted by this soft, steady call.
Ultimately, she waved her hand: “You two sleep together then. But Ranran isn’t very still when she sleeps; remember to help her with the covers during the night.”
“Mommy, I’ll be good.”
Hearing her mommy speak “ill” of her, Li Ran hid her blushing face in Mo Yueshuang’s embrace and mumbled that she would be good.
“Ranran is so cute.” Mo Yueshuang held the little dumpling tight, her mood wonderful. However, when she looked up at Li Sheng, she found the other woman staring at them with a strange expression.
“Li Sheng, you should quickly take a hot shower. Although the weather is decent, it gets a bit cold at night.”
Li Sheng nodded, but before leaving, she noticed Mo Yueshuang was dressed quite lightly. She frowned slightly and turned up the temperature of the air conditioner.
Li Sheng brought in two glasses of warm fresh milk, one for Li Ran and one for Mo Yueshuang.
Once they finished, Li Sheng said to Mo Yueshuang: “Ms. Mo, please supervise Ranran while she brushes her teeth.”
“Okay, I will.”
“Thank you.” Li Sheng exited Ranran’s small room. Once she was gone, Ranran rolled happily on the bed twice. Mo Yueshuang, seeing her so adorable, couldn’t help but feel her heart soften. When Ranran stopped, Mo Yueshuang reached out to stroke the top of her head: “Ranran, let’s go brush your teeth.”
At 8:30 PM, Li Ran got her wish and snuggled into Mo Yueshuang’s arms, feeling her warmth.
“Can Auntie Mo come see Ranran often?”
“Mhm, I can when I’m not busy.”
“Can Auntie Mo tell Ranran a story?”
“A story?” Mo Yueshuang had never told a story to a child before, but since Ranran requested it, she agreed dotingly. She told her the story of the Frog Prince.
After listening, Ranran’s little face was full of confusion. She knit her brows in deep thought and finally, as if she had figured it out, said with a very tragic expression: “The little princess is so pitiful.”
“Eh?” Mo Yueshuang didn’t have much of a personal take on these fairy tales; she mostly found the plots difficult to understand, similar to some scripts she encountered while filming.
Ranran explained: “The King definitely doesn’t like the little princess. Mommy said that only unloved princesses have no servants by their side. Mommy also said that even adults shouldn’t force children to do things they don’t like to do.”
“But, the little princess was the one who first agreed to Mr. Frog’s request. When you promise something to someone, you should do it, shouldn’t you?”
“It must be because the little princess doesn’t have a mother that she gets bullied. Mommy said that if princes and princesses don’t have mothers, they get sent to other favorite concubines to be raised. No one looks after them closely and they get bullied everywhere.”
Thinking of this, Ranran felt a wave of sadness. She couldn’t help but sniffle and burrow further into Mo Yueshuang’s arms.
Mo Yueshuang had never raised a child, but she could clearly feel Ranran’s current emotions. She held Ranran’s small body in her arms, gently patting her back, and comforted her in a soft voice: “Be good, Ranran. Don’t be sad. Ranran has a father and a mommy; Ranran is a happy child.”
Ranran suddenly poked her small head out to look at Mo Yueshuang. Her small hands rubbed her teary eyes, and she sniffled, sobbing: “Ranran doesn’t have a father.”
Since Ranran was born, Li Sheng had been trying her best to be a good mother. Whether by instinct or through constant learning, Li Sheng had protected Ranran very well.
But she was always alone. When Ranran began to notice things, she saw other children holding their father’s hand on the left and their mother’s on the right, skipping along or riding on their father’s neck.
She inevitably had stray thoughts. Coupled with playing with other children, Ranran realized other kids had both a father and a mother at home, while her home only had her and Mommy.
Although she had asked Mommy why she didn’t have a father, Mommy never gave her a direct answer.
Later, little Ranran stumbled upon Miranda and her girlfriend on a date. Through Miranda’s explanation, she learned that not every family is a combination of a father and a mother; there are mother-mother and father-father combinations, and some families only have a mother and a child, or a father and a child.
So, after returning to the country and seeing Mo Yueshuang on TV who looked so much like her, Ranran—after confirming they weren’t sisters—began to wonder if she was her other mother. After all, children usually look like their parents.
“Ranran doesn’t have a father?” Mo Yueshuang suspected she had heard wrong. She whispered the question, but Ranran heard it. Ranran wrapped her small arms around Mo Yueshuang’s neck: “Ranran wants a Mama.”
Mo Yueshuang understood. This was why Ranran, despite already having a “Mommy,” kept calling her “Mama.” Was this child trying to matchmake her and Li Sheng?
“Then, what about Guan Tai…?”
