After Transmigrating Into a Book, I Became That Omega - Chapter 4
Fang Yuandong flinched, startled by the volume of Sang Yuan’s voice. “Uh, yeah, writing essays. What’s wrong?”
What’s wrong?!
Sang Yuan’s face was practically twisting. Back then, he had been so greedy for a department with few people that he completely forgot to screen the curriculum.
Writing essays… He’d rather the essays write him.
If there was one thing Sang Yuan hated most in the world, it was writing. Period. There was no helping it; he had been a tough, physical kid since he was little, and his major in his previous life had nothing to do with literature.
Fang Yuandong’s words were like a bolt from the blue striking him right on the head.
“Can I apply to change majors right now?” Sang Yuan looked at Fang Yuandong with deadly seriousness.
“Huh?” A look of utter confusion crossed Fang Yuandong’s chubby face, unable to comprehend why Sang Yuan would even ask that.
Sang Yuan slumped onto the desk in despair. He really wanted to transmigrate back just to slap his past self to death. Of all the things to pick, his brain had short-circuited and chosen the Literature Department.
Would he become the first person in history to transmigrate into a book only to fail out of school?
“It’s not that bad,” Fang Yuandong said, seemingly realizing what Sang Yuan was agonizing over. “Sure, our department writes essays, but it’s not like it’s exclusive to us. Other departments have to write papers too; it’s just that this is our specialty.”
Hearing this, Sang Yuan’s spirit flickered back to life. True—”we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.” He refused to believe they’d make him write every single day. He wasn’t the type to be defeated by a tiny bit of difficulty.
Just as Sang Yuan sat up, a man with short hair and black-rimmed glasses entered. He walked to the podium and wrote two words on the chalkboard: Yu Feng.
“Hello, everyone. I am Yu Feng. For the next four years, I will be your counselor.”
“Starting tomorrow, we will undergo a one-month military training period. The location is the Yun City Military Base. It will be a fully closed-off training; no visitors are allowed, and communication devices are strictly prohibited.”
“Now, I’ll call a few people to come with me to collect the textbooks and uniforms.”
Yu Feng spoke quickly, ignoring the uproar from the students. He pointed randomly at Sang Yuan and a few others. “You guys come help move things. The rest of you, stay in the classroom for self-study.”
Sang Yuan, Fang Yuandong, and a few others stood up and followed the counselor out. Just as they stepped out the door, they heard the two Omegas in the classroom scream.
“Oh my god! A whole month of military training? Closed-off? No phones? They might as well just kill me!”
“They won’t ban cosmetics, will they? What’s going to happen to my fair skin? Will I lose a layer of skin after a month?”
As Sang Yuan and the others walked further away, the voices faded. Their words made Sang Yuan shiver involuntarily. If he hadn’t seen wrong earlier, those two Omegas were men, right? Even as Omegas, wasn’t it a bit much for boys to care that much about their skin?
Sang Yuan, who had always lived a “rough and tumble” lifestyle, couldn’t wrap his head around it. He truly didn’t understand the world of delicate boys.
There were quite a lot of people picking up uniforms and books. Yu Feng signed the paperwork and told them to line up at the Student Union stations. After a quick discussion, Sang Yuan and Fang Yuandong joined the line for uniforms.
This line was much longer than the book line; the entire freshman class was there. Sang Yuan immediately spotted his roommate in the crowd.
He stood out like a crane among chickens—just by standing there, he naturally attracted everyone’s gaze.
“I see my roommate. I’m gonna go say hi,” Sang Yuan told Fang Yuandong and walked toward Ji Tang.
Ji Tang was looking down, lost in thought, when he heard Sang Yuan greeting him cheerfully.
“Ji Tang! You’re here for uniforms too?” A brilliant smile hung on Sang Yuan’s exquisite face, making Ji Tang daze for a split second.
“Mm,” Ji Tang replied in a low voice.
After a few more words, Sang Yuan returned to his spot. Ji Tang noticed that Sang Yuan was already laughing and chatting with the little chubby guy next to him, his arms draped over the other’s shoulders. He really can get along with anyone.
“Ji Tang, what are you looking at?” Luo Xinghe squeezed through from the book station, a light sweat on his brow.
“Finished with the books?” Ji Tang didn’t answer, simply shifting his gaze away.
“Yeah. Came to see if you needed help over here.” Luo Xinghe wiped his sweat. The room was packed, and the air circulation was terrible.
The Astronomy Department had three classes in total; Ji Tang and Luo Xinghe’s class had fifty students. Soon, it was their turn. They reported the sizes they needed, and the Student Union staff quickly counted them out.
“Let’s go.” Ji Tang gripped the heavy bags of uniforms and navigated easily through the crowd. Before leaving, he glanced back at Sang Yuan. The boy was leaning back and forth with laughter, a clean and hearty grin on his face.
That smile completely dispelled his “soft and moe” appearance; he looked very much like a little sun. The corners of Ji Tang’s mouth curled up imperceptibly for a fleeting second before he exited the room.
After waiting for ages, it was finally the Literature Department’s turn. Sang Yuan carried over twenty sets of uniforms by himself without breaking a sweat.
“Holy crap, Sang Yuan, I’m never calling you ‘Omega-like’ again.” Fang Yuandong wiped his dripping forehead; the stifling heat in the room had him drenched. “With your physique, I’d believe it if you said you were an Alpha.”
“You better believe it!” Sang Yuan gave a proud grin, though his face quickly slumped. “Who knew I wouldn’t end up an Alpha after all?”
“Being a Beta is fine too. Honestly, I think some Alphas aren’t as good as us,” Fang Yuandong said, feeling the cool air once they stepped outside.
It was true. While some people manifested as Alphas, not all Alphas were powerful. There were ranks among them; the more “premium” the genes, the stronger the abilities. Some Alphas just… manifested as Alphas, and that was the extent of it.
“Eh, don’t let yourself be limited by your status. If you want to do something, just work hard and do it.” Sang Yuan didn’t care as he marched forward with the uniforms.
He still hadn’t fully adjusted to the Alpha/Beta/Omega logic. Subconsciously, he still treated the world like his old one. Although he had survived one heat cycle, he just viewed it as a nuisance rather than a fundamental shift in identity.
“Whatever. We’ve already manifested as Betas anyway. Aside from working hard ourselves, there’s no other way,” Fang Yuandong shrugged, following close behind.
Back in the classroom, the students responsible for the books had returned and placed them on the podium. Seeing them enter, Yu Feng nodded and told them to set the uniforms down. Only then did the class meeting truly begin.
“Today’s meeting is mainly for everyone to get to know each other. Our Literature Department is small—this class is the only one we’ve got. With only twenty students, I hope everyone has a pleasant four years together.”
“Let’s start with self-introductions, then we’ll elect the class officers.”
