After Transmigrating Into a Book, I Became That Omega - Chapter 9
Gan Xi’s words caused the students to exchange uneasy glances.
In the next second, they swarmed toward the two dormitories like a hive of bees, terrified that if they were slow, they wouldn’t find a good bunk.
Upon entering, they were stunned.
Each dormitory contained ten bunk beds. A row of lockers stood against the wall, with identical porcelain cups lined up neatly on top. On every bunk lay a quilt folded as perfectly square as a block of tofu. Under the beds were two porcelain basins and two small folding stools.
“Everything here is for uniform use,” Gan Xi said with a smile, his hands clasped behind his back. “No personal items are allowed.”
Immediately, several students broke into wails of despair upon hearing his words.
Gan Xi turned a deaf ear to them, simply glancing at the time. “Ten minutes remaining.”
Spurred by the instructor’s merciless reminder, everyone accelerated. Some had just opened their suitcases; hearing there were only ten minutes left, they fell into a frantic scramble.
Sang Yuan placed his daily essentials in the locker and left everything else untouched.
The moment he had entered the room, he had already scouted the entire environment. There was a balcony in the dormitory with exactly ten large cabinets, likely intended for luggage—one cabinet for every two people.
He looked at the boy who had chosen the lower bunk beneath him, who was frantically pulling things out of his suitcase.
He couldn’t help but offer a reminder: “Just take out what you use daily. Put the things you don’t use often back in the suitcase; you can just retrieve them later when needed.”
“Ah, okay, okay!” The boy hurriedly stuffed his belongings back into the suitcase, leaving only a few items on the bed.
“Let’s put our luggage in the same cabinet,” Sang Yuan suggested. He picked up both suitcases and stuffed them into one of the cabinets.
The boy quickly thanked him, “Thank you, thank you!”
“No problem, you’d better hurry up and finish tidying; time is almost up.” Sang Yuan smiled. He had very few belongings and finished quickly. With nothing else to do, he stood to the side, watching the group bustle about.
Gan Xi immediately noticed Sang Yuan. Seeing that he had finished organizing everything, he gave a secret nod of approval, though he said nothing. He simply paced back and forth between the two dormitories.
“Time’s up! Everyone out for assembly!” Gan Xi barked from the hallway.
Sang Yuan was the first to step out. Since he hadn’t brought much to begin with, he was essentially the first in the dorm to finish. The other students trickled out one after another, taking a full five minutes before everyone was finally in formation.
There was no readable expression on Gan Xi’s face.
The first floor consisted of a long corridor. Other classes began to emerge and line up as well, creating a temporary state of noisy chaos.
“Beginning roll call now. When your name is called, shout ‘Present!’ Do you hear me?” Gan Xi pulled a list from behind him.
“Zhou Tong.”
“Present.”
“Didn’t eat breakfast?” Gan Xi looked up, staring at Zhou Tong with a half-smile.
Zhou Tong’s face turned bright red. He stiffened his neck and shouted again, “Present!”
“Ma Chao.”
“Present!”
With Zhou Tong as an example, those following dared not lower their voices, fearing they would be singled out.
“Sang Yuan.”
“Present!”
Gan Xi glanced at Sang Yuan and continued the roll call. The count of forty people was finished quickly.
Folding the list, Gan Xi looked at the formation. “Sang Yuan, step forward.”
Sang Yuan was momentarily startled. “Sir!”
“You will serve as the acting monitor, responsible for all matters concerning this formation.”
“Sir!”
“Now, take your quilt and lead the group to the athletic field for assembly.”
“Sir!”
Sang Yuan turned back to Room 103 and picked up his quilt.
“Squad, attention! Right face! Forward march!”
Some Alphas in the formation were quite indignant, unable to understand why the instructor would let a Beta be the acting monitor; surely they should have chosen an Alpha. However, Gan Xi’s face was completely expressionless, and no one dared to raise an objection.
Upon reaching the field, Sang Yuan specifically looked for a spot with some shade. At this hour, standing directly under the sun would surely result in losing a layer of skin.
Gan Xi didn’t mind Sang Yuan’s little bit of cleverness. Once they arrived, he had Sang Yuan return to the ranks and addressed the group: “Everyone, form a circle. We will begin our interior management training.”
He gestured for Sang Yuan to place the quilt on the ground. “Unfold it.”
Sang Yuan swore he could hear the sounds of schadenfreude from many in the ranks, relieved that it wasn’t their own quilt. Without a word of protest, Sang Yuan simply followed orders and unfolded the quilt.
Gan Xi dropped to one knee. “Everyone watch closely. I will only demonstrate this once.”
As he spoke, Gan Xi swiftly and cleanly restored the unfolded quilt back into a crisp, square tofu-block. After showing everyone, he casually spread the folded quilt out again.
“Now, everyone will step forward and demonstrate. Sang Yuan, you start.”
“Sir!” Sang Yuan stepped forward and restored the quilt just as efficiently.
“Very good. Mess it up and return to the ranks.”
“Sir!”
“You all saw what the monitor did; I hope you can achieve the same standard,” Gan Xi said with a smile, looking quite easy to talk to. “Starting from the monitor and moving clockwise, everyone demonstrate once. After each person finishes, mess the quilt up.”
“Any student who passes does not need to train further. The rest, as long as you fail, will keep cycling through until you can do it.”
“Reporting, sir!” a student raised their hand.
“Speak.”
“Can the students who pass first leave?”
Gan Xi looked at him, the smile on his face gradually turning cold. “No. You are a team, not scattered individuals. You can only leave when everyone in the team has passed.”
The student who asked the question retracted his neck and said no more.
As everyone took their turn, the resulting “tofu-blocks” were a mess of shapes and sizes. Never mind Gan Xi—even the students themselves found the sight unbearable.
“Except for the monitor, everyone else start over,” Gan Xi threw out the sentence calmly, showing no irritation.
Again, with Sang Yuan at the center, they went through the rotation. Their square formation sat on the ground folding quilts for the entire afternoon, yet a few still hadn’t passed.
“Betas are such a hassle; they’re so slow at learning anything,” an Alpha muttered.
After differentiating into an Alpha, one is indeed stronger than average people in various aspects; their learning and practical abilities already show a distinct gap.
The remaining few students had expressions of growing anxiety. Practicing on their own wouldn’t have been a problem, but being watched by dozens of eyes while failing made the pressure immense. Some even began to sweat, their faces turning bright red.
“Sang Yuan,” Gan Xi suddenly called out.
“Present.”
“Go and demonstrate for them one more time.”
“Sir.”
Sang Yuan went straight to the quilt, deliberately slowing down his movements. He folded the quilt neatly once more before stepping back.
“Did you see clearly? Remaining personnel, continue immediately,” Gan Xi said, his tone still indifferent.
