After Transmigrating Into a Book, I Became That Omega - Chapter 8
The convoy of buses sped steadily toward the Yun City Base. The base was nestled deep within a mountain range, requiring several climbs over winding peaks to reach.
The mountain roads were twisty and turning; Sang Yuan woke up to the sound of collective retching.
Opening his eyes, he realized he had been sleeping against Ji Tang’s shoulder. He sat up abruptly and apologized repeatedly. “Sorry about that! I didn’t press down too hard, did I? Hope it didn’t hurt.”
Ji Tang really wanted to snap back that with Sang Yuan’s small frame, there was no way it could hurt. However, the smell in the cabin was so overwhelming that he literally couldn’t open his mouth; he was afraid that the moment he spoke, he’d lose his breath hold and inhale the stench.
He was currently holding his breath. This was the one downside of having an exceptionally sharp sense of smell.
Seeing Ji Tang shaking his head with a pale, grim expression while the sound of vomiting echoed through the bus, Sang Yuan had an epiphany: So, my roommate is motion sick too.
“Hold on a sec.” Sang Yuan first cracked open the window next to him. Then, he rummaged through his backpack, pulled out a box of candy, and said to Ji Tang, “Open up.”
Ji Tang subconsciously parted his lips, and a cool, orange-flavored candy was popped into his mouth. The minty orange flavor immediately masked the other odors, making Ji Tang feel much better.
Seeing Ji Tang’s complexion soften, Sang Yuan breathed a sigh of relief. “If you still feel bad later, I have more. Just take another one.”
Though Sang Yuan had misunderstood the exact reason for Ji Tang’s distress, his remedy had certainly solved the immediate crisis.
Sang Yuan knelt with one leg on the seat and stood on the other, gripping the backrest to scan the bus before sitting back down. His class wasn’t doing great; not only were the two Omegas throwing up, but several Betas were also looking green around the gills.
The bus finally came to a halt on the winding mountain road. The moment the doors opened, the students scrambled out, desperate for fresh air. That mountain drive had been agonizing.
Ning Beibei and Lin Chun had to be helped off the bus, their faces deathly pale. Dozens of buses were parked at the base entrance, where a teacher was shouting through a megaphone: “Everyone, head into the base and assemble!”
Soldiers from the unit had already begun emerging to maintain order.
After getting off, Ji Tang gave Sang Yuan a quick nod and went to find his own classmates. Sang Yuan finished his head count and handed out a candy to every student who had been vomiting. Only then did he address the class: “Teacher Yu couldn’t make it due to a meeting. If you have any problems, come to me directly. Class officers, keep an eye on your fellow students.”
He then glanced at the ghastly-pale Ning Beibei and Lin Chun. “I’ll carry your luggage for now. Your assembly point is different from ours. All Omegas train together, so I’ll walk you over first.”
“Thank you, Monitor,” Lin Chun said gratefully. He barely had the strength to stand; if he had to lug his own suitcase, he’d probably collapse.
Ning Beibei, for once, was glad he hadn’t sat with that handsome Alpha from earlier. If the guy had seen him puking his guts out, he’d have been mortified. He still didn’t give Sang Yuan a friendly look, but since someone was helping with the luggage, he kept his mouth shut.
Sang Yuan coordinated with the other class officers before taking the three pieces of luggage and leading the way effortlessly. At the base entrance, he asked for the Omega assembly point and escorted the two there.
This military training was completely shuffled. Except for the Omegas, who formed a separate square formation, the Alphas and Betas were mixed together regardless of their original classes.
After telling the two to contact him if they needed anything, Sang Yuan hurried away.
“Actually, the Monitor is pretty nice,” Lin Chun said to Ning Beibei as they watched Sang Yuan’s retreating back.
Ning Beibei rolled his eyes. Nice? Hmph. He had been pretty since he was a child, and his family had always raised him daintily, expecting him to manifest as a precious Omega. He had succeeded, and the adoration he received only increased. Seeing a Beta in the Literature Department who was even prettier than him made him incredibly uncomfortable.
Sang Yuan couldn’t care less about what they were thinking; he just kept his head down and ran toward the assembly point. Fortunately, the Omega area wasn’t far from his own class’s spot.
He arrived before the instructor did, which was a relief. After a final headcount, he stood at the very back of the line.
The rowdy students suddenly fell silent. Sang Yuan followed their gaze and saw a squad of soldiers in uniform marching toward them with perfect precision. Every face was grim, radiating an intense aura of discipline and suppressed aggression that seemed to pierce the sky.
Sang Yuan felt the blood in his veins start to boil. Are these the Special Forces Liu Tiancheng mentioned?
He really… wanted to fight them.
The leader was a First Lieutenant with chocolate-colored skin and a brawny build that commanded immediate respect. The students were silent, and the officers seemed satisfied with the intimidation.
“First of all, welcome to the Yun City Base. My name is Liu Zhen. You can call me Instructor Liu. I am the person in charge of your training.”
“Now, we will begin the random assignment.”
“Listen up! Keep one arm’s length from the person in front of you!” Liu Zhen scanned the students. Seeing no one move, he barked, “Move it!”
The students jolted and began to scramble into formation. The chaotic movement made Liu Zhen’s eyebrows knit together, his expression darkening. Once they finally managed to stand still and quiet down, he spoke slowly.
“This is your first day at the base, so I can forgive you once. Starting tomorrow, if this happens again, the entire unit will be punished collectively. Now, first and third rows, step forward! Fifth and seventh rows, step forward!”
Under Liu Zhen’s command, the students were split into square formations of forty people each. Almost every formation was a mix of different classes.
“Based on your current formations, grab your luggage. Your assigned instructor will lead you to the dorms. This afternoon will be dedicated to organizing your quarters.”
Sang Yuan looked at the people in his square. His class was small to begin with, and now they were scattered thin.
Perfect. He didn’t recognize a single soul.
“Hello everyone, my name is Gan Xi. I am the instructor for this square. I’ll lead you to the dorms now.”
Gan Xi was a tall Alpha who looked surprisingly harmless. He led the group toward the assigned dorms with a smile, seemingly indifferent to how much the students struggled with their heavy bags and luggage.
“We have two dorm rooms, twenty students per room.” Gan Xi stood at the doors of Rooms 103 and 104, pointing at the doors. “Now, go find a place to sleep and get your things in order. You have fifteen minutes.”
