After Transmigrating into a Book, I Became the Vicious Female Supporting Lead - Chapter 14
Lin Qiyan hurried straight into the kitchen as soon as she finished her shower. The smell of the blocker on her body had faded, leaving a faint floral fragrance lingering in the air.
Mu Yunge was washing vegetables with her eyes downcast; her reaction was impossible to read.
Dinner was ready quickly, and the two ate at the small coffee table. Mu Yunge took a bite, noticed Lin Qiyan’s expectant gaze, and smiled in praise. “It’s delicious. You’re a good cook, Yan Yan.”
Lin Qiyan finally relaxed, her eyes curving into crescent moons. “I’m glad you like it.”
She hesitated for a moment before asking, “Yunge, back at the hospital, did they find out what my pheromones smell like?”
Mu Yunge’s fingers paused imperceptibly. There was a momentary flash of scrutiny in her eyes, but it vanished instantly. Her tone remained as close and friendly as usual. “Why do you ask?”
“I can’t smell it myself,” Lin Qiyan said, poking at her rice with her chopsticks, sounding uncertain. “Is it… a bad smell? I heard a few people say it was a bit stinky before.”
Mu Yunge stopped moving, her brow arching slightly. “Stinky?”
Lin Qiyan nodded. Remembering something, she started to stand up. “Maybe I should spray the blocker again.”
Mu Yunge caught her wrist, her voice soothing. “It’s not stinky. It’s the scent of Milan flowers. It’s very fragrant.”
Lin Qiyan looked at her doubtfully. “Really?”
[Yunge is so nice, maybe she’s just making something up to protect my self-esteem…]
If Tang Ziqian knew what Lin Qiyan was thinking, she would have stared in disbelief, wondering if the girl had brain damage from the car accident. Mu Yunge is a nice person? That was the funniest joke she’d ever heard.
Mu Yunge lowered her eyes. “Yan Yan, don’t you believe me?”
Lin Qiyan couldn’t handle a beautiful girl acting like that. She sat back down immediately and declared her stance: “I believe you, I believe you. I’ll believe whatever you say.”
Mu Yunge still didn’t look up. Lin Qiyan hesitated, then moved to sit on her knees beside her. A soft, fluffy rug was spread around the coffee table, perfect for rolling around on.
Lin Qiyan leaned closer to Mu Yunge. The light scent of Milan flowers grew more intense, enveloping her. Out of the corner of her eye, Mu Yunge caught a glimpse of Lin Qiyan’s nape; her gaze lingered on it for a split second.
She reached out and loosely clasped Lin Qiyan’s wrist. Before Lin Qiyan could speak, she froze for a moment then repeated, “Yunge, I really do believe you.”
Mu Yunge shook her head. “I’m not blaming you.”
“I just suddenly remembered a fight I had with my family,” she said, her fingers curling slightly over Lin Qiyan’s wrist. “You believe me so easily, yet they don’t.”
Lin Qiyan’s sympathy immediately overflowed. She didn’t pull away; instead, she reached out and patted Mu Yunge’s back. “Then just stay here with me.”
After a thought, she added comfortingly, “It’s okay. There’s no grudge between family that can’t be settled. They’ll probably figure it out soon. But if you don’t want to go home, you can stay here forever.”
Having achieved her goal, Mu Yunge narrowed her eyes slightly where the other couldn’t see, feeling quite pleased. “Thank you, Yan Yan.”
After dinner, it was getting late. Lin Qiyan found a pair of unworn, loose T-shirts for Mu Yunge to use as pajamas. The apartment had no guest room, so Lin Qiyan didn’t overthink it, and the two slept in the same bed again.
The scent of Milan flowers soaked into the sheets and bedding. Mu Yunge’s tense nerves finally relaxed completely. She sat on the edge of the bed, her gaze circling the room. Lin Qiyan finished tidying up quickly, washed up again, and climbed into bed.
The two lay down together. The lights were off, leaving only the silvery-white moonlight falling into the room.
Lin Qiyan turned onto her side, looking at Mu Yunge’s profile. “Yunge, what is your pheromone scent? Is it especially nice?”
[She’s the most famous person in school, but it seems no one knows what Mu Yunge’s pheromones are, except those closest to her.]
Mu Yunge mirrored her position, facing her. Her dark pupils looked even clearer in the moonlight. “You want to know?”
Lin Qiyan rubbed the tip of her nose. “Not exactly, I’m just curious.”
Mu Yunge: “Do you want to smell it?”
Lin Qiyan’s eyes widened. “Is that allowed?”
Mu Yunge’s smile deepened. “Yan Yan, you’re acting like a hooligan.”
Lin Qiyan: “?”
Mu Yunge’s voice was soft and slow. “Pheromones are a very private thing. Asking someone what their pheromones are so bluntly is equivalent to asking them what style of underwear they’re wearing in public.”
The crude and direct comparison made Lin Qiyan’s eyes go round.
[W-what? Is it… like that?]
Lin Qiyan hurriedly explained, “I didn’t mean it like that, I…” Her toes curled in embarrassment. “I’m sorry.” She desperately wished she could travel back in time and stitch her mouth shut.
Mu Yunge smiled. “It’s okay.”
Hearing the amusement in her voice, Lin Qiyan turned around in a huff and pretended to sleep. Mu Yunge’s smile vanished, her eyes turning into bottomless pits in the shadows.
Time passed, and the room grew silent. Deep, rhythmic breathing filled the air. Outside, the traffic gradually thinned out as nightlife came to an end. A thousand lights flickered out as people returned home.
The person who had been lying still slowly opened her eyes.
Mu Yunge stared at the back of Lin Qiyan’s head for a while, then got up and went to the bathroom. She found Lin Qiyan’s school pants, fumbled a small object out of the pocket, and toyed with it between her fingertips. Her beautiful, cold eyes stared at it, and she suddenly let out a soft sneer.
Mu Yunge took the object to the living room. After a while, she carried a small box into the bedroom, took out a disposable syringe, tore open the packaging, and without a hint of hesitation, pricked the area near the glands on Lin Qiyan’s nape.
A floral scent, much more intense than usual, filled the small bedroom. Lin Qiyan stirred uneasily in her sleep, her brow furrowing as she let out a soft moan.
Mu Yunge was putting the syringe into a refrigerated box and glanced up. The cold moonlight bathed Lin Qiyan’s skin, coating it in a layer of white glaze that made it look even colder. A single drop of blood slowly seeped from the untreated needle mark on her neck.
The heavy floral scent was almost drowning. Returning to the bed, Mu Yunge rested her gaze lazily upon it. Her slender fingers wiped away the precarious bead of blood and brought it to her lips.
Mu Yunge extended the tip of her tongue and slowly licked it away.
Birdsong and the scent of flowers accompanied a burning sunrise, welcoming the opening ceremony of Yanda Affiliated High School. The sun broke through the clouds, shining down on the students below the stage.
Lin Qiyan was currently being pulled aside and scolded by Sun Li.
The man in front of her was beyond furious. “Where is your self-reflection essay?!”
Lin Qiyan was silent for a moment before saying sheepishly, “Teacher, I forgot to write it.”
In reality, she hadn’t planned on writing it at all.
