After Transmigrating into a Book, I Became the Vicious Female Supporting Lead - Chapter 18
After lunch, Lin Qiyan headed straight to the classroom. The weather was beautiful, and the warm sunlight fell across her body, making her sweat slightly.
Lin Qiyan held her pen, focusing intensely on solving a problem. During the lunch break, students could either return to the classroom or go to the dorms. Most of Class 15 had either gone home or to the dormitories, leaving Lin Qiyan all by herself.
The entire space was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. A gentle breeze ruffled the blue curtains. A figure slowly approached.
A shadow fell across Lin Qiyan’s book. She looked up and locked eyes with a pair of smiling orbs.
“Yunge?”
Mu Yunge sat down in the chair in front of her. She glanced over Lin Qiyan’s desk before speaking. “Not taking a nap? Aren’t you tired?”
Lin Qiyan: “I’m okay.” Thinking of the events from this morning, she couldn’t hide her curiosity. “Yunge, that recording… where did you get it?”
Mu Yunge rested her chin on her hand and dismissed it nonchalantly. “Ran Yiran gave it to me.” Seeing the confused look on the other’s face, she added with a smile, “Ran Lie’s half-brother. He took his mother’s surname.”
Lin Qiyan shook her head and sighed. “It’s a bit of a mess.”
Mu Yunge picked up one of Lin Qiyan’s pens and began to fiddle with it. Her eyelashes were half-lowered as she replied casually, “Yeah, quite a mess.” The pen spun gracefully through her fingers like a blooming flower before being set back down. The movement was incredibly smooth.
Lin Qiyan thought about how Mu Yunge often had friction with her own family; her life probably wasn’t very peaceful either. She sighed for Mu Yunge in her heart.
The girl in front of her was oblivious. Having grown bored with the pen, she let her gaze wander lazily over Lin Qiyan’s desk to see if there was anything fun. A faint scent of Milan flowers drifted to her nose, soothing her nerves. Logically, one shouldn’t be able to smell anything after spraying a blocker, but because their compatibility was so high, the blocker at most added a slight edge to the scent.
However, Lin Qiyan—unilaterally—could not smell Mu Yunge’s pheromones at all.
As the sun grew hotter, Lin Qiyan pulled the curtains shut. Mu Yunge’s phone vibrated.
[Tang Ziqian: Yunge!! I heard there was some fun stuff this morning?! What kind of drama did Lin Qiyan stir up this time?!]
[Mu: None.]
[Tang Ziqian: Dammit, how can you be so perfunctory with your childhood friend? Doesn’t your conscience hurt?]
[Mu: I don’t have a conscience.]
[Tang Ziqian: …]
[Tang Ziqian: I was supposed to be there, but out of nowhere, some girl carrying breakfast ran right into me on the road. I suspect she did it on purpose just to get my attention!]
Mu Yunge’s finger tapped the screen. Her friend was a total germaphobe; usually, even a grain of rice falling on her would make her want to take a shower, let alone a mess like that.
[Mu: Then it sounds like she found the right method.]
[Tang Ziqian: …]
[Tang Ziqian: You don’t love me anymore!]
[Mu: When was there ever love?]
[Tang Ziqian: …Mu the Scumbag, I’m unfriending you.]
“Mu the Scumbag” closed her phone without a change in expression, unilaterally cutting off contact.
Sunlight shimmered in the quiet classroom, golden halos illuminating motes of dust and giving everything a dreamlike border. Lin Qiyan finished another problem and looked up to see Mu Yunge with her chin resting on her arms, eyes closed. Her long lashes cast shadows beneath her eyes.
Lin Qiyan’s hands felt a bit itchy.
Mu Yunge was just a bit tired from playing around and was resting her eyes while thinking about how to deal with the Shen family so they’d stop acting like clowns every day. Suddenly, she heard a voice.
[Yunge is asleep. If I move quietly, it should be fine.]
A chill ran through Mu Yunge’s heart, but she forced herself to stay still to see what the other girl planned to do. The next second, something very gentle brushed against her eyelashes. A warm touch met the thin skin under her eye, making Mu Yunge’s heart skip a beat. The hand was quickly withdrawn after committing the “mischief.”
Mu Yunge: “…”
To save Lin Qiyan from embarrassment, she stayed slumped for a while longer before sitting up and pretending she had just woken up. “What time is it?”
Lin Qiyan: “The lunch break is almost over.” She peeked at Mu Yunge’s expression and felt a wave of relief.
[Looks like Yunge doesn’t know what I did.]
Mu Yunge’s lowered eyes were deep and dark.
Two voices drifted in from outside.
“I’m dying of sleepiness. Why is there class in the afternoon?”
“Because there’s class in the afternoon.”
“…You’re a real little genius, aren’t you?”
“Thanks for the compliment.”
Two boys walked in while bantering, only to freeze in their tracks upon seeing the people in the classroom. Their eyes widened in disbelief. Lin Qiyan looked over and recognized the two boys who had called her increasingly “vicious.”
The habitual smile Mu Yunge wore for Lin Qiyan vanished. She swept a lukewarm glance over them before turning back to Lin Qiyan with crinkled eyes. She winked. “Yan Yan, I’m heading out first. See you next time.”
Lin Qiyan nodded. Mu Yunge walked out through the back door. The two boys remained dazed.
It wasn’t until someone tapped them from behind. “What are you two doing? Standing here like bandits? Want me to think of a slogan for you?”
One of the boys looked dazed as he said to the joking classmate, “Nan Dan, I think I’ve seen a ghost.”
Nan Dan stopped smiling and looked dead serious, as if the matter were very grave. “Call me ‘Daddy’ and I’ll slap you awake.”
Wei Pu: “…”
“I’m awake now, thanks.” He walked back to his seat, occasionally stealing glances at Lin Qiyan, who had already lowered her head to work on her homework.
Nan Dan shifted his gaze to the other dazed boy, looking eager. “Shang Chichi, do you need one too?”
Shang Chichi ignored him and sat down next to Wei Pu. Nan Dan walked back regretfully.
More and more students arrived. Soon, the bell rang. The first period was with the homeroom teacher, and students couldn’t stop speculating about who the new one would be.
Clack, clack, clack.
The rhythmic sound of high heels approached, and a cold, elegant beauty appeared at the door, holding several books and a bag over her shoulder. She walked up to the podium and scanned the room before breaking into a smile that softened her cool aura. “Hello students, I am your new homeroom teacher, Wang Xiao.”
She turned and wrote her name on the blackboard—strong, vigorous strokes with a style of their own. Setting the chalk down, she rested her hands on the edge of the podium and looked at the bright eyes below. Her gaze paused for a second on the calm girl in the back before she continued with a smile, “If you have any problems in the future, you can come find me anytime.”
Wang Xiao only said a few simple words before beginning the lecture.
Lin Qiyan noticed that the girl in the front row had a very cramped desk, yet her back remained a significant distance from the edge of Lin Qiyan’s table. She sighed and pulled her desk back a bit. The girl’s back flinched, and she shrunk even further into her corner.
Lin Qiyan: “…” She stared at the ceiling melancholically.
The afternoon felt both long and short. Lin Qiyan packed her bag and walked out of the school gates. She first checked the nearby milk tea shops and similar places. Since it was the start of the semester and they hadn’t hired enough people yet, she easily found a part-time job. After agreeing on the wages and hours, she walked home under the sunset.
