After Transmigrating into a Book, I Became the Vicious Female Supporting Lead - Chapter 30
At 11:00 PM, Lin Qiyan, Mu Yunge, and Tang Ziqian sat in a row at the police station.
Tang Ziqian described the whole process with animated gestures before finally nodding. “That’s everything. Officer, there’s very important stuff on my phone, so please, you must get it back.”
The police officer closed her notebook. “Alright, we will do our best.”
“Thank you, Officer!”
As soon as the officer left, Tang Ziqian leaned back as if her soul were ascending to heaven. “I should have just backed it up. Dammit.”
Mu Yunge handed a cup of hot water to Lin Qiyan and poured one for herself. Sitting in her chair, she leisurely blew away the rising steam. “It’s not a big deal.”
Tang Ziqian turned her upper body, clutching the back of the chair. “You have another way?”
“Isn’t there surveillance?” Mu Yunge curled her lips into a smile.
Lin Qiyan’s mouth hung open slightly. Tang Ziqian was equally shocked. “Shit, you should’ve said that earlier! We wouldn’t have had to sit here in the middle of the night.”
Mu Yunge took a sip of tea. “You don’t want your phone back?”
The eldest Miss Tang was arrogant. “It’s just a phone. I can have as many as I want.”
Lin Qiyan looked over with envy.
They didn’t have to wait long. Tang Ziqian had seen the culprit clearly, and since the incident happened right under a camera, the kid—a first-time offender who lived nearby—was easily caught. The phone was successfully recovered.
The first thing Tang Ziqian did upon getting it back was make several backups of her photos. Amidst many thanks, they finally stepped out of the police station doors.
The starry sky above was intricate, and the night felt quiet, with only the streetlights still glowing. Not far from the station, a few people were embroiled in a dispute. A woman sat in the driver’s seat of a car with the door open.
Despite the dim midnight light, Lin Qiyan recognized the person standing with her head down opposite a man at a single glance: it was her front-row neighbor. She remembered then that the girl’s father had been detained for a few days for public brawling; it looked like he had just been released.
Mu Yunge knew Lin Qiyan had a “mission” to complete, so she stood still. Seeing that neither of them was moving, Tang Ziqian followed their gaze curiously, recognized the girl, and stayed put as well.
Tang Ziqian tilted her head slightly and whispered, “What’s going on here?”
Mu Yunge: “Am I a mind reader?”
Tang Ziqian: “Why don’t you go up and ask, Yunge?”
Mu Yunge: “Why don’t you go?”
Tang Ziqian: “That wouldn’t be appropriate.”
Mu Yunge sneered. “So you do know.”
Over there, the girl’s hands were clenched tight. “Mom told me… to take you… home.”
The man was impatient. “Scram! I’m not going back. Who would want to go back to that godforsaken place?”
The woman in the car checked her watch, her expression remaining unreadably calm. Seeing the woman’s movement, the man immediately tried to approach her fawningly, but the girl blocked him, her lips pressed into a thin line.
“Mom… cooked… dinner… waiting for you.”
Fearing the woman would grow tired of waiting, the man shoved the girl aside and walked toward the car with a grin. Then, his pant leg tightened. He looked down.
The girl, who hadn’t had time to climb back up, was clutching his pant leg tightly. Her fingertips were white, and the veins on the back of her hand stood out. Her voice was like stagnant water: “Mom told me… to take you… back.”
“She is… waiting.”
The man’s rage flared instantly. He raised his foot and kicked the girl. His pant leg remained gripped. That kick hit her head; the girl’s face went pale with pain, yet she didn’t let go. She kept repeating the same sentence: “Mom is waiting for you… go home.”
Seeing the woman about to close the car door, the man bent over regardless and tried to pry the girl’s hands off, kicking and punching her simultaneously. “Dammit, you little bitch, you’ve got some strength! Go back? Go back to what? I’ve been sick of your mother’s face for years. Cooked dinner? You two can eat it. Let your mom find a few random men to eat with her. Stop f-ing bothering me!”
A storm of fists fell upon her. The girl could only curl her body to protect her head. Upon hearing that sentence, her hands, which had been death-gripped onto the man, finally let go.
Lin Qiyan stepped forward quickly and delivered a kick straight to the man’s kidney. The man stumbled back two steps.
“You dare act so bold right in front of the police station? Want to go back in for another two days?”
The man stood straight, his face flushed with anger. He pointed a finger at her. “Where the hell did another little bitch come from? I’m disciplining my daughter, what’s it to you? Scram if you don’t want to get hit.”
Mu Yunge walked over slowly. She pulled out a piece of paper and used it to shield her hand as she grabbed the man’s hand. The man was momentarily stunned by her beauty and didn’t pull away immediately. Mu Yunge’s expression was flat as she violently bent his finger back. A pig-like shriek erupted from the man’s mouth.
Once she was sure the finger was broken, she let go.
Tang Ziqian rubbed her ears. “Too loud.”
She used the tips of two fingers to pick up a piece of trash from the ground and, with practiced accuracy and disgust, stuffed it into the man’s mouth. Then she pulled out a tissue and meticulously wiped her fingers over and over, as if she were going to rub the skin off.
An unspeakable stench hit the man’s senses. He turned his head, spat the trash out, and leaned against a tree, dry-heaving uncontrollably.
During this process, Lin Qiyan helped the girl up. She was about to ask if she was okay, but the words died in her throat when she saw the girl’s face. The large glasses were crooked, revealing a face covered in bruises—some from the beating, some from the friction against the ground. She couldn’t see the rest of her, but it likely wasn’t light.
The man’s small eyes were wide with fury, his chest heaving. Just as he raised his large palm to teach these “kids” a lesson, the woman who had remained silent finally honked the horn.
“Come here.”
The man had no choice but to lower his hand. He shot them a vicious glare. “You kids just wait. I’ll f-ing kill you.” He turned and ran toward the car, nursing his limp finger. The car started and sped away, leaving a cloud of dust.
Tang Ziqian, feeling bored, tossed her tissue into a bin. “Boring.”
Mu Yunge didn’t spare the girl even half a glance; she only checked to make sure Lin Qiyan was okay.
Lin Qiyan frowned. “She needs to go to the hospital.”
Hearing this, the girl struggled. “N-no… I want to… go home.”
Tang Ziqian strolled over and said casually, “Go home for what? So your mom can see this mess and worry herself sick while you lay awake in pain all night?”
The girl opened her mouth to speak but couldn’t stop a mouthful of blood from spraying out, landing right on Tang Ziqian who was standing directly in front of her. Tang Ziqian’s face instantly turned a variety of colors, looking as if she had swallowed a fly.
Lin Qiyan felt an inappropriate urge to laugh.
Mu Yunge had already efficiently hailed a taxi and said very “kindly,” “Hang in there, the stains will fade.”
Tang Ziqian stood on the spot, the veins on her forehead throbbing. she endured it and squeezed out a single word through her teeth: “…Shit.”
The main building of the hospital in the other district was brightly lit. After helping the girl sit on a chair, Lin Qiyan prepared to register her. Before she left, she stopped and asked somewhat sheepishly, “Um, what’s your name?”
The girl tried to stand up. “I can… go myself.”
Tang Ziqian placed a hand on her shoulder and gave a light press. The girl couldn’t support herself and sat back down. Tang Ziqian yawned. “You’re already in this state, don’t push it. A name isn’t something shameful.”
The girl pursed her lips and compromised. “Yu Xinxin.”
Lin Qiyan nodded. “Yu Xinxin, right. Okay.” She froze mid-turn, her expression incredulous. “You said your name is… Yu Xinxin?”
[God help me, the one being bullied is the female lead!!]
Yu Xinxin nodded, shrinking her body. “What’s wrong?”
Tang Ziqian sat up straight. “Is it really that shameful?”
Lin Qiyan took a deep breath and gave Tang Ziqian a complex look.
[What right do you have to be disgusted? That’s your future wife!!]
Tang Ziqian felt her hair stand on end from the gaze and said warily, “What?”
Lin Qiyan turned and went to register. Mu Yunge’s gaze fell on Yu Xinxin, her eyes deep. Tang Ziqian muttered something, propped her head on her hand, closed her eyes, and let out another lazy yawn.
After a series of examinations, it turned out that due to long-term domestic violence, her internal organs had sustained some damage; that was the cause of the blood she spat out. The kick to her head had also resulted in a mild concussion. The doctor explained the CT results to them.
In the surgical room, the female doctor pulled up Yu Xinxin’s shirt, revealing a vast area of bruising on her back—it was a horrific sight. The doctor’s hand pressed lightly around the edges to determine if any bones were broken. Lin Qiyan sucked in a cold breath.
Tang Ziqian couldn’t help but curse. “What kind of scum would lay a hand on his own daughter?”
Accustomed to such sights, the doctor said in a business-like tone, “If you encounter any trouble, you can seek legal help.” She withdrew her hand, turned, and sat at the desk to write.
Yu Xinxin’s eyelashes trembled; she pursed her lips and remained silent. Lin Qiyan wanted to chime in with advice, but ultimately kept her mouth shut.
The doctor issued a prescription. Mu Yunge took it and handed it to Tang Ziqian as she came out from behind. The latter was confused. “What’s this for?”
Mu Yunge sat on a bench. “Get the medicine. It’ll help wake you up.”
Tang Ziqian: “…”
She took the prescription and ran downstairs to the pharmacy.
The doctor applied some topical medication and performed another check, giving them a few instructions. Lin Qiyan applied the medicine cautiously while listening. She moved very gently, yet she could still feel the girl trembling slightly.
While Lin Qiyan was internally cursing the scumbag father, she became even more careful with her movements. Mu Yunge, listening to Lin Qiyan’s indignant inner monologue, tapped her fingers rhythmically on the armrest, feeling a bit less bored.
Tang Ziqian let out several consecutive yawns. Because she was tired, she couldn’t be bothered to fix her expression; her fox-eyes were half-drooped and cold, making her look even less approachable.
By the time everything was finished, the crescent moon was already sinking in the west. They first sent Yu Xinxin home. At the street corner, Yu Xinxin firmly insisted on having Lin Qiyan’s WeChat. The latter was flattered.
Then, Lin Qiyan looked at the familiar profile in her contact list and fell into deep thought.
[If I remember correctly, the original owner’s nickname for her was ‘Stinky Ghost’?]
Immediately after, the other party sent a “Red Envelope” (digital payment). Seeing Lin Qiyan’s confused expression, Yu Xinxin explained, “Medical… fees.”
Lin Qiyan thought about it and accepted it. Yu Xinxin breathed a sigh of relief.
By the time this was all done, it was well into the second half of the night. Tang Ziqian couldn’t be bothered to go home, so she followed Lin Qiyan and Mu Yunge to the apartment.
The rental was small, but since it was fully furnished when she moved in, it didn’t look simple or crude. As soon as Tang Ziqian walked in, she politely expressed her disdain. “Yunge, how do you live in a place this small?”
Lin Qiyan: “…”
[Evil capitalism, how hateful.]
Mu Yunge didn’t even give her a look. She grabbed her clothes and walked toward the bathroom, leaving behind a sentence: “If you don’t like it, you can go outside. There’s plenty of space—the sky is your blanket and the earth is your bed. Roll around as much as you want.”
Tang Ziqian immediately shut her mouth.
Mu Yunge and Lin Qiyan took the bed; she took the sofa.
