After Transmigrating into a Book, I Saved the Cheap Shou - Chapter 4
As Gu Jingning went upstairs, he happened to see Xu Tao’s group standing at the end of the corridor. They had just walked out of the bathroom, laughing like idiots as they left.
He sensed something was wrong. Sure enough, when he checked, the bathroom door had been locked from the outside by them.
Xu Tao and his gang only ever bullied the protagonist shou. Just imagining Su Chen lying miserably inside the bathroom made Gu Jingning’s heart ache sharply from the scene he had pictured.
He walked to the bathroom, carefully pushed open the door, and saw the bullied Su Chen lying on the floor right in front of him.
The person on the ground had his eyes tightly shut. His face and arms were covered in bruises of various sizes, with traces of blood at the corner of his mouth. His entire body was soaking wet, and he was unconsciously curled up from the pain, looking like a small injured dog left out in the rain.
Gu Jingning hadn’t expected Su Chen’s injuries to be far more severe than he had imagined. For a moment, an indescribable sourness filled his chest. He gritted his teeth, already having killed Xu Tao and the others thousands of times in his mind.
Gu Jingning took out the handkerchief he always carried with him, gently lifted the “unconscious” Su Chen, carefully avoided his wounds, and tenderly wiped the water from his face.
From the moment the person entered the bathroom, Su Chen had been waiting for him to do something harmful. Instead, all he received was silence. Just as he was growing impatient and considering pretending to wake up, a handkerchief with a faint, fresh grassy-woody scent touched him.
The owner of the handkerchief wiped him with extreme care, as if handling something extremely fragile. His movements were so light that Su Chen began to wonder if the person was simply waving the handkerchief in front of him without actually touching his face.
While Su Chen was still dazed, Gu Jingning suddenly picked him up and even weighed him lightly in his arms a few times.
So light, Gu Jingning thought with a frown. Has this person even been eating properly?
Gu Jingning opened the bathroom door and quickly ran toward the infirmary with him.
When they arrived at the infirmary, the school doctor was not there.
Gu Jingning gently laid Su Chen on the sickbed, feeling anxious. What should he do if the doctor wasn’t around?
It was lunchtime now. The doctor had probably gone out to eat.
After hesitating several times, he decided to first change Su Chen out of his soaking wet clothes. He couldn’t let him catch a cold. Fortunately, the infirmary always kept spare sports uniforms for students in emergencies.
Even though Young Master Gu had never taken care of anyone before, and despite trying to be as gentle as possible, he still inevitably tugged on Su Chen’s wounds several times. Su Chen nearly let out a muffled groan more than once, but he managed to hold it in.
After changing the clothes, the wounds still needed treatment.
Gu Jingning rummaged through the medicine cabinet, finally found an external ointment, grabbed some cotton swabs, lifted Su Chen’s shirt, and was about to apply the medicine.
Wait, no! He should disinfect first! He inwardly scolded himself for his lack of common sense and hurriedly searched the cabinet again for alcohol.
Once he found it, he returned to the bedside and carefully lifted Su Chen’s clothes.
Earlier, because he had been in a rush to change the wet clothes so Su Chen wouldn’t catch a cold, he hadn’t looked closely at Su Chen’s body.
What lay before him was an extremely thin frame where the ribs were clearly visible. Only at this moment did Gu Jingning truly feel the reality of having transmigrated into the book. Su Chen was no longer just a string of words on a page, but a living, breathing person right beside him, sharing the same air. Gu Jingning’s nose suddenly stung, and his eyes instantly filled with tears.
In his previous life, while reading this book, he had actually really liked Su Chen — his perseverance, his refusal to give up no matter how difficult life became, and how he never complained about his fate. If not for meeting the scumbag gong later, Gu Jingning believed Su Chen would have had a wonderful future.
As he applied the medicine, he wiped his tears haphazardly, not realizing that one drop had accidentally fallen onto Su Chen’s arm.
After bandaging the wounds and pulling Su Chen’s clothes back down properly, Gu Jingning estimated the time until the school doctor would return and quickly fled the scene.
After Gu Jingning left, Su Chen slowly opened his eyes. His fingers gently stroked the spot on his arm where the tear had landed. The warmth of that single drop of tear had shaken him to the core.
