- Chapter 17 - Call Me Sister
When the money was almost spent, Gu Zhi and Xu Muyan met up with Wang Yang and Ji Mo.
“CEO Gu, what did you buy?” Ji Mo asked.
Gu Zhi showed him the groceries she was carrying.
Ji Mo burst into laughter. “That’s great. I only bought a pork knuckle.”
Gu Zhi: “…”
Back at the house, Xu Ranzhi and Wo Aini had already arrived and even eaten breakfast. Xu Ranzhi watched Xu Muyan and Gu Zhi walk in one after the other, her emotions growing increasingly complicated.
The production crew decided that the same groups that went shopping would cook lunch together. Xu Ranzhi couldn’t cook, so she relied on Wo Aini. After all, Wo Aini was willing to give it his all for his goddess. Wang Yang was introverted and wanted to cooperate with Xu Muyan. The two cooked seamlessly without any complaints.
Meanwhile, Gu Zhi and Ji Mo were clueless about what to do. Ji Mo had only bought a pork knuckle, which they would finish in one meal, meaning they would probably starve that night.
“CEO Gu,” Ji Mo raised an eyebrow. “Let’s start cooking.”
“Can you cook?”
Ji Mo raised an eyebrow again. “What do you think?”
I think you can’t. As expected, he really couldn’t. I’ll have to rely on myself!
Gu Zhi made a few simple dishes that looked small in portion. She also steamed the river prawns. The first one out of the pot, she peeled, dipped in sauce, and offered to Xu Muyan. Xu Muyan was cutting vegetables, so her hands weren’t clean. Gu Zhi hadn’t expected her to take it, so she naturally fed it to her.
“The first shrimp is for you,” Gu Zhi smiled.
Xu Muyan didn’t hesitate and ate the whole thing. “Thank you.”
Xu Ranzhi, who was watching Wo Aini cook, glanced at their interaction and immediately flared up. What the hell is Ji Mo doing?! How can he let Gu Zhi flirt with my Sister?!
“CEO Gu, what about us? You should be fair,” Xu Ranzhi said coldly.
Gu Zhi didn’t look at her. “I only want to feed Muyan.”
Although Gu Zhi had some flaws in social etiquette, in the eyes of the audience, only feeding Xu Muyan was incredibly sweet and explosive with romance. Anyone watching would shout, “I ship it!”
Xu Ranzhi was furious. She picked up a slice of cut, grilled sausage and held it to Xu Muyan’s mouth. “Sister, do you want to eat this?”
Xu Muyan: “…” I’m going to get fat sooner or later.
That evening, it was time to write letters to their crush again. Ji Mo continued to write to Gu Zhi.
[I was unhappy today because you ignored me.]
Gu Zhi just glanced at it and immediately looked at Xu Muyan’s.
[Is your wound better?]
Gu Zhi couldn’t hide her smile. I was only pretending to hurt a little. Sister really cares about me. But she was still dissatisfied because the note was pitifully short.
[I had a very happy time shopping at the market with you today. I’d be even happier if we could do that more often.]
Xu Muyan smiled. She realized that coming here wasn’t bad at all.
It was the weekend the next day. Wo Aini suggested that everyone go for a drink and then play an escape room game. Everyone enthusiastically agreed, except for Xu Ranzhi. She was unwilling to play an escape room with a bunch of idiots. She felt like she was turning into an idiot herself.
“Miss Xu, are you going?” Gu Zhi noticed her disdain and asked intentionally.
“Of course.” If Xu Muyan was going, how could she not?
The bar was quiet. Wo Aini ordered a few low-alcohol drinks and poured them for everyone. Xu Muyan didn’t smoke, but she liked to drink. Just as she was about to take a sip, someone blocked her.
Xu Muyan: “?”
“You’re not feeling well. You shouldn’t drink alcohol.”
Xu Muyan: “??”
Gu Zhi deliberately took out a bottle of mineral water she had prepared and poured it for her. “Just drink water.”
Xu Muyan: “???”
“Come on, this wine is low-proof. Even someone who never drinks would only get a little red in the face after a bottle,” Xu Ranzhi said, exasperated.
Gu Zhi didn’t say anything, just looked at Xu Muyan sincerely. Xu Muyan silently drank the water. Every time Gu Zhi looked at her like that, she felt guilty, as if she was taking advantage of her. Gu Zhi was doing this because she was afraid the alcohol would harm the baby in Xu Muyan’s belly. What if the baby is affected and then the mom is, too?
Seeing this, Ji Mo coughed. “Oh, I don’t feel well either.”
“CEO Gu, what should I do?”
“Then drink less alcohol.”
Ji Mo: “…” Such a double standard!
In fact, Gu Zhi was very tired during the chat and drinks at the bar. On one side, Ji Mo was being overly dramatic and distracting her. On the other side, Xu Ranzhi was deliberately getting closer to Xu Muyan, which made her head spin.
Xu Ranzhi drank one cup after another, feigning dizziness. She leaned lightly on Xu Muyan’s shoulder and whined, “I feel a little dizzy. Am I catching a cold?”
Xu Muyan gently felt her forehead. “It does feel a little warm.”
Gu Zhi threw a bottle of mineral water onto Xu Ranzhi’s lap. “If you have a cold, drink more water.”
“I think I should go back. Sister Muyan, why don’t you come with me?”
“Sister Muyan has never played an escape room before. Do you really expect her to leave the fun and go back to take care of you after finally getting a break from work?” Gu Zhi retorted sarcastically. “Miss Xu, you’re so generous.”
“Who told you to call her Sister Muyan?” Xu Ranzhi snapped.
“Oh, right. I usually just call her Sister,” Gu Zhi countered.
Wo Aini was stunned. Didn’t they say Xu Ranzhi likes Gu Zhi? It looks more like the two of them are fighting over Xu Muyan!
Xu Ranzhi downed a glass of wine. “Ranzhi, if you’re really not feeling well, why don’t I go with you?” Wo Aini asked, concerned.
Xu Ranzhi said coldly, “I’m fine.”
Wo Aini felt wronged. He had been chasing after Xu Ranzhi like a dog for the past few days, but she never gave him any response. To cover up his embarrassment, he went to the restroom and ran into Ji Mo on the way out. Wo Aini sighed.
Ji Mo knew why he was sighing and patted him on the shoulder sympathetically. “Don’t worry, man. You’ve got this.” Wo Aini was touched and nodded.
At the escape room, only the suspense and horror theme was available.
“Should we wait a bit?” Wang Yang suggested.
Xu Muyan said, “I don’t mind horror themes.”
“Me neither,” Xu Ranzhi and Gu Zhi said simultaneously.
“I mind,” Ji Mo said, a little scared.
Wo Aini asked, “Then will you stay outside?”
“No, I’ll go in with you.”
“If you get scared, you can hold my hand,” Wo Aini said thoughtfully.
Ji Mo hummed in agreement.
Seeing this, Gu Zhi told Xu Muyan, “Sister, if you get scared, you can lean on me. I can protect you.”
“Sister isn’t scared, but I am. Sister, you have to protect me,” Xu Ranzhi interrupted.
Xu Muyan: “…”
They entered the escape room and found three different corridors.
“Three corridors. Let’s split into three groups,” Gu Zhi said quickly, pulling Xu Muyan’s hand and walking into the first corridor.
Wo Aini and Wang Yang both said to Xu Ranzhi, “I’ll go with you.”
Xu Ranzhi was unwilling but had no choice.
“Sister, hold my hand tightly and don’t let go.” The environment inside grew darker, but Gu Zhi forced herself to walk forward. She had to pretend to be brave in front of Xu Muyan. That’s how an alpha should be!
Xu Muyan hummed, feeling Gu Zhi’s palm sweating. She silently smiled.
“Oh, there’s a clue card ahead.” Gu Zhi ran over and picked it up, but it triggered a mechanism, and a wig suddenly lunged forward. Gu Zhi shrieked and jumped into the soft embrace next to her.
Damn it, that was too scary!
“You don’t have to pretend to be so tough in front of me.” A soft hand gently stroked her back, and the voice was cool and pleasant.
Gu Zhi looked up and saw Xu Muyan’s eyes sparkling. “I’m sorry. I was supposed to protect you.”
Xu Muyan chuckled. “It’s not a war. Why talk about protection?” She took her hand and said firmly, “I’m not some fragile omega. Sometimes the energy inside me is infinitely strong.”
Physically, Gu Zhi was much larger and taller than her. But hearing this, she suddenly felt that Xu Muyan had become incredibly magnificent.
Gu Zhi asked, “Can I lean on you?”
Xu Muyan didn’t refuse and hummed in agreement. Gu Zhi gently rested against her, just like before. She thought she smelled lavender. They had been in the house for days, and no one dared to release pheromones. The scent of lavender was deeply enchanting to her. Gu Zhi inhaled deeply.
She really wanted to confess right now, but they were still filming. She would have to wait until the final episode of the show to confess. After the confession, she wouldn’t announce it, but let the episode air. She wanted everyone to see how much the redeemed Gu Zhi loved Xu Muyan.
Of course, Xu Muyan wasn’t completely fearless. Occasionally, NPCs would jump out to scare them. Xu Muyan would get startled but wouldn’t scream, only quietly retracting her head. Gu Zhi glanced at her. She’s finally scared. Every time this happened, Gu Zhi suddenly felt incredibly tall and big. She put her arm around Xu Muyan and stroked her cool, fragrant hair. “It’s okay. I’m here.”
Hearing her words, Xu Muyan suddenly felt a sense of comfort, like being soothed by her mother. When she was little, she would hide in her mother’s arms whenever there was thunder. Her mother would gently pat her head and back, saying softly, “It’s okay, little Muyan. Mom’s here.”
She lifted her head and pointed a finger at Gu Zhi’s pale, delicate face. How can this person who is younger than me be my mom? “Who’s your mom? I’m your Sister. Call me Sister!”
Gu Zhi: “????????”
