After Transmigrating into the Scum Wife of a Disabled Black Moonlight (GL) - Chapter 22
It was a simple birthday banquet, but quite a few celebrities attended. Everyone knew the eldest daughter of the Song family suffered from mental illness, so after dropping off their gifts, they returned to the banquet, gathering in social circles to chat.
Before the luncheon began, everyone was free to enjoy champagne, fruit platters, and small desserts.
Song Chisui and Song Chiqiu were in a group, surrounded by people, including Jian Qiuyu, Qingshui, and Du Jinyue. The few of them knew each other and were catching up.
Deng Li sat back in a mahogany chair, observing everyone: guests, relatives, friends of relatives, service staff, drivers, and security.
If “that incident” was destined to happen today, someone would tamper with Song Chisui and secretly take her to the lake beforehand…
She took a sip of champagne. So far, the villain hadn’t shown their hand.
Or perhaps, because she was there, someone was secretly watching her? The senses of people in the same business are very keen. If she kept a close watch, the other person wouldn’t come out.
Sticking so closely to Song Chisui was not the best strategy.
Through the crowd, Song Chisui was looking up and talking to others. She held a plate of baked cheese, occasionally scooping a tiny bit with a spoon the size of her pinky finger and putting it in her mouth.
She chewed slowly and deliberately, dozens of times before swallowing, unhurriedly. She was like the little kitten she raised.
Deng Li shook her wine glass, watching intently. Just then, Song Chisui looked in her direction. Their eyes met inadvertently, and Deng Li was momentarily stunned.
Fortunately, people were moving around. She quickly averted her gaze and turned to get a snack.
Just then, a hand tapped her shoulder, and a voice came from behind: “Deng Li, you’re here.”
She turned around and saw a woman standing next to Duan Tiantian. The woman wore a red dress, had red hair, was dressed sexily, and had a voluptuous figure with a large, wavy hairstyle.
Her fiery red lips curved into a smile at her, like a big chili pepper.
“Let me introduce you. This is Producer Pei Yun Pei.” Deng Li had asked Duan Tiantian to introduce her to people in the industry last time, and now she had found one!
Deng Li was grateful for her speed and greeted Pei Yun. “Hello, Producer Pei.”
“Hello.” Her voice was very mature. “It’s nice to meet you.”
After a simple handshake and small talk, Deng Li quickly exchanged WeChat accounts with her for the sake of her future career.
Not far away, Song Chisui was still observing her. Seeing the scene in front of her, the corners of her mouth slightly dropped. She nudged Song Chiqiu next to her with her finger.
Still proceed with the original plan.
The giggling Song Chiqiu held a champagne glass and suddenly lifted it to drink. She didn’t manage to drink the wine; instead, she spilled all of it onto her dress.
“It’s wet.”
Song Chiqiu tugged at her collar, whimpering as if she were about to cry.
“Sister, it’s okay.”
Song Chisui quickly called Chunmei to take Song Chiqiu upstairs to change clothes.
The people around noticed the disturbance, quickly looked over, and were very curious, but only dared to whisper amongst themselves.
Soon, Chunmei helped Song Chiqiu upstairs.
After adding the WeChat account, Deng Li saw a commotion in the distance, with several people standing behind Song Chisui. They were gathered around the wheelchair, seemingly watching the show.
Upon closer inspection, she saw a pair of hands touching the wheelchair several times. A server in a black and white uniform, just a glimpse of his back, quickly twisted something on the wheelchair and left.
Deng Li immediately put down her wine glass and followed him.
“Hey, hey, Deng Li, where are you going?”
Duan Tiantian called out from behind and followed her.
The person quickly slipped into the villa corridor. He seemed very familiar with the surroundings and walked fast.
Deng Li accelerated, but people kept blocking her way with champagne and cake plates.
“Excuse me.”
“Careful.”
In the dim space, she hurried forward. At the corner, she saw the person slightly turn his head.
Under the faint light, he had a slightly hooked nose.
Deng Li pressed her back against the wall, holding her breath, afraid of alerting him.
After a moment, she heard the sound of cloth rustling from that direction. Deng Li quickly turned around, only to see Chunmei walking out of a partition.
“Madam, you’ve come at the right time.”
There must have been another path. The person got away.
“What is it?”
Deng Li looked at her.
“The eldest Miss needs to be looked after, and I need to find the clothes she likes. Can you help?”
“You can watch her. I’ll get the clothes.”
“Oh, no, how can I trouble you with something like that? I’ll go. Could you watch the door for me? I’m worried she might wander off.”
“Sure.”
With that, Chunmei led Deng Li upstairs.
Although Deng Li missed the suspect, she had one clue: the hooked nose. This nose shape was uncommon, so he should be easy to track down.
She stood guard outside the door, her arms crossed in thought. Wait, what if the situation is different this time than before?
She sighed. Just then, Duan Tiantian came rushing up the stairs from the previous hallway, breathless. “Deng Li, why did you suddenly run off?”
“You’ve come just in time.”
Deng Li grabbed her hand and pointed to the room in front of them. “Tiantian, do me a favor. Qiuqiu is inside alone, waiting for Butler Chunmei to get her clothes. Please watch her and don’t let her wander off.”
With that, she yanked the door open and pushed Duan Tiantian inside. “Thank you, sister! I really have an emergency. It’s a matter of life and death!”
Duan Tiantian reached out like Er Kang. “Deng Li, don’t go! Hey!”
Downstairs.
Du Jinyue was chatting with Song Chisui. Jian Qiuyu sat quietly beside Song Chisui, watching over her. Qingshui sat next to Jian Qiuyu, picking up small refreshments in front of her and handing them to Jian Qiuyu.
“Teacher Jian, I haven’t properly thanked you for what happened last time.”
Qingshui held her dress with both hands, looking at Jian Qiuyu with gratitude.
Jian Qiuyu pushed up her glasses. “You and Chisui are both my students. It’s my duty to save you.”
With that, Jian Qiuyu smiled at Song Chisui.
Song Chisui’s gaze was calm. She seemed indifferent to their conversation.
“Chisui, no one has been bothering you lately, right?” Jian Qiuyu initiated a topic of conversation.
Song Chisui looked up and met her eyes. The glasses reflected the light, making Jian Qiuyu look refined and gentle.
She shook her head. “No, thank you for your concern, Teacher.”
A moment later, Chunmei came up to her, leaning in and whispering into her ear, “Everything is ready.”
Song Chisui took a deep breath. “Did she go?”
“Yes.”
Chunmei nodded. She reached into her waist pouch and, after a while, pulled out the pills Song Chisui usually took.
She slowly spread them out, her hands trembling slightly against her will. “Miss, you haven’t taken your medicine today.”
Song Chisui looked at the colorful pills and instantly felt a bitter taste in her mouth and sourness in her stomach. She frowned. “I don’t want to take them.”
Chunmei’s hand shook. “If you don’t want to take them, then don’t.”
Du Jinyue spoke from the side. “How can you not? You need to take your medicine on time.”
She looked sternly at Song Chisui. “I won’t indulge you. Take them now.”
She poured some hot water and handed it to Song Chisui. “Look at you, you’re so thin. Take your medicine and hurry up and eat.”
It was well-known that only attending doctors like Du Jinyue had such a temper. Patients could listen or not; even money couldn’t buy her a good mood.
Song Chisui trusted her for this very reason.
“Okay.”
She took the cup of water and swallowed the pills one by one.
Perhaps it was the effect of the medicine; she always felt sleepy after taking it, and this time the drowsiness was even more pronounced.
Just ten minutes after finishing, Song Chisui felt heavy-headed and her vision blurred.
She wasn’t sure what the noise upstairs was. She propped her cheek up and quickly blinked her eyes. “So sleepy.”
Jian Qiuyu stood up, cautiously supporting her shoulder, and gently leaned in. “Chisui, do you want to rest?”
“Mhm.”
Qingshui saw this and also stood up. “I’ll push her up.”
She approached and reached out to touch the wheelchair, accidentally brushing Jian Qiuyu’s hand.
Jian Qiuyu flinched.
Qingshui’s breathing paused, and she glanced at her.
Chunmei walked over and quickly ushered the two to sit down. “You are guests. Lunch will be served soon. Please sit and rest. I will take care of Miss.”
Chunmei naturally took the wheelchair from their hands and pushed Song Chisui inside.
Sleepy, so sleepy.
Song Chisui felt like she was having a dream. Her body was being dragged down, and she couldn’t wake up. It was like she had been given an anesthetic, and she instantly lost consciousness.
In her ears, there was only the sound of wheels turning.
She fantasized that her exhausted body was already in bed, enjoying the warmth and fragrance of the covers.
She didn’t know how much time had passed. Even the sound was completely gone. Her five senses gradually faded, and she fell into a deep sleep.
Chunmei pushed her to the side of the mirror lake, chose a relatively flat spot, and left her there.
Then, she quietly slipped back into the house.
“Miss.” She tightly clenched her fists, her emotions complicated. “Life and death are determined by fate. Living is so painful. It’s better to end it all.”
She didn’t know how much time had passed.
The birthday banquet began. Everyone was clinking glasses and toasting, paying no attention to the main and supporting characters of the event.
Whether the Song sisters were present or not was irrelevant.
Song Suiying was surrounded by people. He found a server and asked, “Where are the eldest and second Misses?”
“Chairman, the eldest Miss went to change her clothes, and the second Miss was tired and is resting upstairs.”
Song Suiying was about to ask further, but Song Shunjun, Xia Mingyi, and others pulled him away to introduce business partners.
He was busy and didn’t have time to worry about Song Chisui and Song Chiqiu.
She didn’t know how much time had passed.
By the mirror lake, a gentle breeze stirred her ink-black long hair. The sun was warm, shining on the girl’s small face. From afar, the woman in the wheelchair looked like she had walked out of a comic book—beautiful and tragic.
The girl’s hand rested on the wheelchair. Her fingers were like new bamboo shoots, white and delicate. They were slightly curled, gripping the silver armrest, making a harsh sound. The blue veins stood out from the effort, making her slender wrist look sickly and alluring.
“Where am I?”
Song Chisui’s mind was a mess. She slowly opened her eyes. Her vision went from blurry to clear. In front of her was a clear green lake. Egrets were foraging by the shore. She could hear a faint breeze, and the sun was warm. Everything seemed beautiful.
“Why am I here?”
She lifted her tender, bamboo-shoot-like hand and pressed her temple. A throbbing and painful sensation came from her head. Her eyelashes drooped slightly, like a pair of small fans.
I can’t let the wind blow on my head. It will hurt.
Song Chisui pressed the switch on the wheelchair handle, attempting to turn. After starting, the wheelchair didn’t turn but rushed straight forward.
The wheel rolled off the flat road and over the stone fence by the lake, making a shuddering noise that instantly jolted Song Chisui awake.
Feeling that something was wrong, Song Chisui desperately hit the brake button. After several struggles, the brake didn’t move at all. “The brakes are not working?”
Below the wheelchair was a slope, and at the end of the slope was the mirror lake where someone had drowned.
Song Chisui’s breath hitched. A cold chill ran down her spine.
She frantically slammed the brake button, murmuring, “No, no, stop.”
Her palm was red from hitting it, but it couldn’t stop the wheelchair from sliding down the slope.
The speed got faster and faster, like a rollercoaster going downhill, whoosh.
The next second, she was airborne. A brief ringing sound echoed in her ears. After she plunged headfirst into the lake, she was swallowed by the boundless water, completely silent and still.
