An Inner Life of a Cold Beauty Omega Secretary - Chapter 14
Ye Baiwei stared blankly at the four words Mu Zheng had sent, feeling as though she had swallowed a fly. It was disgusting, yet she had to stomach it. When she read the original novel, the author hadn’t portrayed such a loathsome character, nor such a revolting plot!
Clearly, she had transmigrated into a pirated version.
Utterly outrageous!
Ye Baiwei was fuming. She had encountered plenty of jerks in the past—people who made her work life difficult, people who backstabbed her, people who picked fights for no reason—but relatively speaking, none had been so excessive as to make her want to explode on the spot.
But someone like Fang Ran… cheating was one thing, but to have such a malicious heart? She was truly so vile that one felt the urge to simply hammer her to death.
Ye Baiwei turned off her phone and tossed it onto the bed. She silently tucked the receipt back into her pocket. She felt indignant on Mu Zheng’s behalf, but since she couldn’t meddle, this was as far as it went.
As for the compensation…
Given Mu Zheng’s meticulous way of handling things, they would likely have to settle it face-to-face eventually. Ye Baiwei truly couldn’t bear the thought of it.
What a mess.
Ye Baiwei leaned against the headboard, staring at the ceiling. For the first time, knowing a piece of gossip had put her in a foul mood, even giving her the urge to hit someone. If she had a girlfriend as good as Mu Zheng, she certainly wouldn’t be such a scoundrel.
Actually, why hadn’t the original Ye Baiwei made a move?
If she had, Mu Zheng would be her Omega by now, and she wouldn’t have to agonize over this.
As her mind wandered, she thought back to that dress she liked at the boutique. Mu Zheng’s figure was a perfect match for it—no flaws at all. It would showcase Mu Zheng’s curves beautifully; she would look stunning in it.
Ye Baiwei could already imagine Mu Zheng wearing that dress—she would be so beautiful people wouldn’t be able to look away.
Thinking of something, Ye Baiwei suddenly sat bolt upright. she reached across the bed to grab her phone and quickly found the boutique manager in her WeChat contacts.
[Manager, please reserve that blue dress after the runway show. I’m taking it.]
[I’ll have finance send over the deposit later.]
After sending those messages, Ye Baiwei set her phone aside for good. She got up to take a hot shower, changing out of the suit that had been accidentally stained and hanging it on a rack. She’d take it to the dry cleaners once Mu Zheng returned from her date.
She couldn’t bear to throw away such expensive clothes. Back when she was a corporate slave, she wouldn’t even buy clothes over 300 yuan, let alone toss them away like trash. To her, that was no different from throwing away her life!
After her shower, Ye Baiwei lay comfortably in bed. She didn’t step foot out of her room until the next morning, even setting her phone to “Do Not Disturb” to avoid any unnecessary trouble.
The morning meeting at the company had already ensured that Ye Baiwei wouldn’t have anything particularly important requiring her presence for quite a while. Even if she didn’t reply, everyone would just assume the original Ye Baiwei was throwing a tantrum because she lost the power struggle. According to the original character’s personality, this was perfectly normal behavior.
She didn’t need to worry or feel anxious about not replying for two days. Once Mu Zheng returned, everything would be handled.
The Next Day.
9:30 AM—
Ye Baiwei was jolted awake by a series of persistent “emergency” calls. Perhaps because she was so used to being a corporate slave, her first reaction to the ringtone wasn’t anger, but picking up the phone to see who was calling.
As expected, it was Mu Zheng.
Ye Baiwei swiped to answer and pressed it to her ear. “Secretary Mu, what time do you think it is? Going on a date isn’t the same as committing arson; don’t you people ever rest?”
Mu Zheng felt speechless. She knew Ye Baiwei had a terrible case of “morning grumpiness.” If it weren’t for something urgent, she would never call Ye Baiwei this early on a weekend.
After all, no one thinks their life is too long.
Especially when one constantly has to stay by the side of a moody leader; one needs to cherish their life even more.
Mu Zheng explained helplessly, “President Ye, it’s already nine-thirty.”
“Nine-thirty? Then why is my room still pitch black?”
“…President Ye, have you considered the possibility that you haven’t opened your curtains?”
Ye Baiwei propped herself up and looked toward the other side of the bed. She didn’t see any curtains. She flopped back down and closed her eyes. “Where are there curtains?”
Mu Zheng almost forgot. Previously, Ye Baiwei complained that normal curtains were too transparent; as soon as the sun rose, the whole room became bright, making it impossible for her to sleep. It was fine on workdays, but on weekends, Ye Baiwei would bring people back to roll around in the sheets and didn’t want to wake up early. Because of that, Ye Baiwei had thrown a fit at her for no reason.
Later, Mu Zheng understood. Before the next day even arrived, she had called people over to tear down the ordinary curtains and replace them with fully opaque, automatic blinds.
Mu Zheng remembered telling Ye Baiwei about the new blinds once and even marking the location of the remote, but since she was usually around, she was the one who opened them. Ye Baiwei hadn’t listened to a word she said.
[Truly a hard-to-serve Madame Pimp!]
“Secretary Mu, what did you say?” Ye Baiwei’s brain wasn’t fully awake yet, so she blurted out the question upon hearing a voice.
Mu Zheng was confused. “President Ye, are you talking to me or someone else?”
Ye Baiwei mumbled, “I’m talking to you, Secretary Mu. There’s no one else here. Am I supposed to be talking to a ghost?”
“…President Ye, you’re hallucinating. I didn’t say anything to you.”
“You did, I heard it. I clearly heard your hea—”
At that point, Ye Baiwei’s eyes snapped open and she sat up in shock, breaking into a cold sweat.
Dammit, dammit! She almost exposed her secret of being able to hear inner thoughts!
She really couldn’t answer the phone while waking up next time. When she was half-asleep, her brain wasn’t sharp. If this happened again, she’d be completely finished!
“President Ye, what did you clearly hear just now?” Mu Zheng asked thoughtfully.
Ye Baiwei immediately denied it. “Nothing. I was just dreaming. Go on.”
This sounded like a forced cover-up, but Ye Baiwei’s voice didn’t sound particularly suspicious—it was the same as usual, still very domineering. This instantly dispelled Mu Zheng’s doubts.
She said, “President Ye, it is now nine-thirty in the morning. Your room is dark because you previously complained that normal curtains were too transparent and affected your sleep. I had them replaced with automated blinds. The remote is in the first drawer of your nightstand on the left. You can just use it to open them.”
Ye Baiwei rolled to the left and indeed found a remote in the first drawer.
She immediately pressed the “Open” button.
Beep—
Intense sunlight flooded in instantly.
Fortunately, Ye Baiwei reacted quickly enough and shielded her eyes the moment the blinds opened, otherwise, she would have been blinded.
It really was nine-thirty.
“So, Secretary Mu, are you calling to report that you two have officially gone out on your date?”
Only a pervert would do that!
Oh, Mu Zheng almost forgot—Ye Baiwei would.
“No. I called to remind you that since it was a holiday yesterday, the hotel won’t process check-outs until after 12:00 PM today. Please don’t head over too early, President Ye.”
So that was it.
Wait.
She called for such a trivial matter?
If it was just for this, she could have sent a WeChat message. There was no need to call and nearly make her slip up!
Ye Baiwei didn’t know what to say. She rubbed her forehead in exasperation and replied, “You could have just sent me a message. There’s really no need for a phone call.”
Mu Zheng heard the displeasure in her tone and explained, “President Ye, I already sent you ten messages. I assumed you had set your phone to ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode.”
Well… she had.
Ye Baiwei returned to her home screen, checked WeChat and her SMS, and found that Mu Zheng had indeed sent five notifications on each. She had spoken too soon.
“I see.”
Mu Zheng said, “Then I won’t disturb your rest, President Ye.”
With that, Mu Zheng hung up directly.
Ye Baiwei stared at her phone. She actually wanted to apologize, but the original Ye Baiwei would never apologize to anyone. She had to hold back.
She flopped back onto the bed. Her eyelids were heavy—she really shouldn’t have stayed up late last night. Tossing her phone aside, she fell right back to sleep.
By the time she woke up again, it was past one in the afternoon.
Ye Baiwei got up, ordered takeout, and after eating, changed into some casual clothes and called the driver to pick her up.
She gave the hotel address Mu Zheng had sent to the driver. The highway wasn’t congested at noon, and the driver was fast; they arrived at the hotel on the address before three o’clock.
Ye Baiwei tried calling Mu Zheng. Likely because the two were still out on their date, Mu Zheng didn’t pick up after three tries. Ye Baiwei went straight to the front desk.
As soon as the receptionist saw Ye Baiwei, they didn’t even wait for her to ask. They handed her a key card. “Room 701, seventh floor. Please keep it safe.”
Ye Baiwei thanked the receptionist and took the elevator to the seventh floor.
Just as she was about to use her key card to open the door, the person walking over from her left and opening a door caught her attention instantly.
Ye Baiwei glanced out of the corner of her eye and was instantly dumbfounded.
This Alpha… wasn’t he the person Fang Ran was cheating with?!!!
