An Inner Life of a Cold Beauty Omega Secretary - Chapter 20
“Lend you three hundred thousand?”
“Yes, lend me three hundred thousand.”
Mu Zheng immediately felt that something was wrong. Fang Ran shouldn’t be short of money; she had her own job with a decent salary, and Mu Zheng gave her allowance regularly. No matter how she looked at it, it was impossible for her to be this strapped for cash.
Especially this much.
She grabbed Fang Ran’s hand in return and pressed, “Ranran, why do you suddenly need so much money? Is someone threatening you with something?”
Fang Ran pulled her hand away and stammered, “No, no… no one is threatening me. Zhengzheng, I just want to borrow some money for… for other purposes.”
Three hundred thousand wasn’t a small amount. To an ordinary person, it was an astronomical figure—not something easily obtained.
Mu Zheng did have over three hundred thousand in savings, but that money was earmarked for something else. It was her entire net worth, saved up over several years by living frugally. If Fang Ran truly had an emergency, she would lend it without hesitation—provided it was a real emergency.
If it wasn’t urgent, she would try to find a way with Fang Ran together; she was determined not to touch those savings unless it was absolutely necessary.
“Ranran, can you tell me what happened first? Why do you suddenly need so much? If someone is blackmailing you, we can figure out a way together!”
Fang Ran couldn’t possibly tell Mu Zheng the truth. With Mu Zheng’s intelligence, she would immediately detect Chen Yue’s existence. If her affair was discovered now, there would be no way she could get the compensation money out of Mu Zheng.
“I told you I’m not being threatened! I just need the money urgently. Are you saying you don’t believe me, Zhengzheng?” Fang Ran took the opportunity to throw a fit. “You just said you loved me, but you don’t trust me when it matters. You probably think I’ll run away with the money! We’ve been together so long; don’t you know what kind of person I am?! Zhengzheng, if you don’t have the money or just don’t want to lend it because you think it’s too much, you can just say so. You don’t have to think so lowly of me!”
After shouting this, Fang Ran slammed her hand on the table in a display of feigned anger, stood up, and began putting on her shoes.
Seeing this, Mu Zheng hurriedly stood up as well.
“Ranran, I didn’t mean it like that! I’m not doubting your words, I’m just worried you’re being blackmailed. Blackmail is a bottomless pit; there’s a first time and a second time. Those people are greedy. They won’t just let you go once you’ve paid up.”
“Enough!”
Fang Ran looked at her with a face full of grievance. “I’ve said it already: I am not being threatened! How many times do I have to say it before you believe me?! Zhengzheng, I always thought you’d trust me unconditionally, but the incident at the carousel today and now this loan prove that you don’t trust me at all! Even if you say you do, it’s just on the surface!”
Mu Zheng was startled by Fang Ran’s reaction. She quickly grabbed Fang Ran’s hand. “Ranran, I do trust you. What’s wrong with you today? What exactly happened? Ranran, tell me the truth, don’t scare me!”
Fang Ran let out a cold laugh and heartlessly shook off Mu Zheng’s hand, looking as miserable as a misunderstood child in kindergarten. “What’s wrong with me? You think I’m just throwing a tantrum? Figures. To you, I’m always just being temperamental.”
“Ranran, I don’t think that, I just…”
“Yes, you do!”
Mu Zheng truly couldn’t understand why Fang Ran was suddenly exploding at her. Three hundred thousand wasn’t an impossible sum; if Fang Ran truly needed it for an emergency, she would help without a second thought.
But the problem was that as soon as she asked, Fang Ran claimed a lack of trust. She didn’t even dare tell her what the money was for. It was hard not to suspect that Fang Ran was being coerced by someone.
“Ranran.” Mu Zheng still tried to communicate.
But Fang Ran was desperate for that money. Tomorrow was the deadline; if she and Chen Yue couldn’t produce the funds, they would both end up in jail, and their lives would be ruined.
She absolutely could not let that happen!
“Zhengzheng, my mind is a mess right now. Let me be alone for a bit. I think we both need to calm down and think things over.”
Seeing Fang Ran’s resolve, Mu Zheng didn’t push further. She only said, “It’s dark out now, Ranran. Where are you going to ‘calm down’? Can’t we just go back and discuss this?”
Fang Ran insisted, “I’m going to the front desk to book another room. Don’t worry about me running off anywhere; I’m an adult, I’m not that childish.”
With that, Fang Ran finished her shoes and pushed the door open.
Mu Zheng stood there alone, feeling lost. They were supposed to be on a happy date; how did it end up like this? Where did it go wrong?
She couldn’t figure it out and even began to wonder: Was I really the one in the wrong?
But her logic told her she wasn’t.
She still couldn’t understand why a perfectly good date had turned so sour.
Mu Zheng tried her best to reflect. She truly hadn’t doubted Fang Ran’s character, nor was she unwilling to lend the money; she was genuinely terrified that Fang Ran was being blackmailed, which would mean living under a shadow forever.
But people are greedy.
Especially regarding money; it’s a giant, unfillable void. If someone finds a steady source of cash, they won’t just walk away once they’ve had a taste.
Why didn’t Fang Ran understand her intent?
Mu Zheng stood at the door for a long time before returning dejectedly to the table. Staring at the unfinished spicy soup, she couldn’t bring herself to pick up the chopsticks. Her appetite was gone; she just wanted to sit in silence.
After sitting for about half an hour, Mu Zheng still couldn’t stop worrying. The amusement park was crowded with holiday travelers, mostly couples. Since the hotel was inside the park, there was no way there would be a spare room. If Fang Ran was still angry, she might just hide somewhere random.
Furthermore, Fang Ran was an Omega. An Omega wandering the streets alone late at night was asking for trouble.
Thinking of this, Mu Zheng quickly put on her shoes and went downstairs to look for her.
She originally planned to call Fang Ran, but knowing her personality, she likely wouldn’t pick up while angry. So Mu Zheng decided to ask the front desk if Fang Ran had booked a new room.
If she had, Mu Zheng would wait until her temper cooled a bit before talking about the loan again. If she hadn’t, she would call her or use the phone’s GPS to bring her back.
“Hello, I wanted to ask if a female Omega came down to book a room about half an hour ago?” Mu Zheng asked politely.
The two receptionists looked at each other, and one said, “The hotel rooms were all booked up long ago. There have been no vacancies for the last two days. As for the guest you mentioned, we haven’t seen a female Omega come down in the last half hour.”
“Wha—what do you mean?”
“It means neither of us saw anyone leave, let alone a female Omega.”
She didn’t come down?
Then where could Fang Ran be?
Mu Zheng asked for confirmation: “Are you sure you haven’t seen her? She’s a bit shorter than me, has curly hair, a sweet face, and… and her hair is tied up with a ribbon! Please think carefully. She’s my girlfriend, we had an argument, and she’s been gone for half an hour. I’m looking for her!”
Seeing her distress, the receptionists told her to stay calm. As long as she hadn’t left the hotel, she had to be inside somewhere; she couldn’t have gone far.
They checked the security footage for her and found that Fang Ran had taken the elevator to the seventh floor and entered Room 702.
She knew Ye Baiwei was in 701, but who was in 702?
The unease in Mu Zheng’s heart spiked. “Who is staying in 702?”
the receptionist smiled and said, “I’m very sorry, guest, but we cannot disclose the personal information of other guests. We can only tell you that your girlfriend entered Room 702.”
Mu Zheng understood. She thanked them politely and took the elevator to the seventh floor with a heavy heart.
She had arranged Ye Baiwei’s room; she knew Ye Baiwei looked down on the environment here and was far too lazy to arrange another room privately.
So who exactly was in Room 702?
Mu Zheng refused to let her mind wander to darker places. She believed Fang Ran wasn’t that kind of person. They had been together for over two years; Fang Ran didn’t have those tendencies.
No.
No way.
It’s definitely not like that.
Mu Zheng desperately fought off every negative thought. Without evidence, she could not doubt Fang Ran’s loyalty. Perhaps Fang Ran wanted to surprise her and had secretly booked a room in advance, only to find Mu Zheng had booked one too, so she kept it so as not to waste the deposit.
It wasn’t impossible.
Ding—
The elevator reached the seventh floor.
Mu Zheng stood before Room 702 with a heavy step. After a deep breath, her right hand trembled as she knocked on the door.
A moment later, the door opened.
A female Alpha she didn’t recognize came to the door. Mu Zheng glanced into the room but didn’t see Fang Ran.
Mu Zheng thought she could finally breathe a sigh of relief. But just as she was about to apologize for the intrusion, Fang Ran walked out from the back of the room, calling out “Honey” affectionately.
In that instant, Mu Zheng felt her entire world collapse.
