An Inner Life of a Cold Beauty Omega Secretary - Chapter 21
“Zheng… Zhengzheng?!”
Hearing Fang Ran’s cry, Chen Yue finally realized who this Omega was. She had never seen what Mu Zheng looked like; she only knew Fang Ran had an Omega girlfriend who worked as a high-earning secretary for a big boss and was supposedly very beautiful. Seeing her now, she was indeed stunning.
Mu Zheng carried an innate aura of cold elegance that kept strangers at a distance—different from ordinary Omegas. This type was “high-and-cold,” not the kind that would easily throw themselves at someone. Chen Yue instantly felt that Fang Ran was bland in comparison; if she could get her hands on Mu Zheng, the “play” would likely be much more thrilling.
But before Chen Yue could delve further into her fantasies, Mu Zheng shoved her aside.
“Zhengzheng, listen to me, this is all a—”
“You want to say it’s all a misunderstanding, right?” Mu Zheng burst into a cold laugh. “If I’m not mistaken, she’s the so-called ‘good friend’ you brought home—the one who called out to you in the background when I phoned you, right? Fang Ran, you aren’t an idiot, and I’m certainly not one. I won’t miss something this glaringly obvious!”
“Zhengzheng, you really misunderstand me!” Fang Ran reached out to grab Mu Zheng. “A-Yue really is just an ordinary friend. She originally came over to ask me to hang out, but I turned her down because you said you wanted to go on a date. I had no idea the place you were taking me was this amusement park. A-Yue just happened to want to play here too. I didn’t tell you she was here because I was afraid you’d misunderstand. Look, isn’t this exactly what happened? You misunderstood!”
Still sophistry even at this stage. The more Mu Zheng thought about it, the more ridiculous it felt.
Just how stupid did they think she was to offer such an explanation?
Mu Zheng suddenly felt a sharp pain in her heart, followed by exhaustion. She felt like a clown whose mask had been forcibly ripped off in public; she was battered and bruised, both mentally and physically.
She directly and violently shook off Fang Ran’s hand and headed for the stairs without looking back. She didn’t take the elevator; she didn’t even bother to hurl insults at Fang Ran. She felt that using such words would only dirty her own mouth—these two “dog-women” weren’t worth it!
Seeing this, Fang Ran scrambled to chase after her.
“Zhengzheng, let me explain!”
Mu Zheng used to love hearing that name. Every time she went home, Fang Ran would call her that with a sweet, greasy tone before clinging to her and acting spoiled. Mu Zheng would claim it was cheesy, but in truth, she loved it. Now, however, the sound was revolting. It caused a physical reaction of discomfort—nausea, even. She didn’t want to hear that voice ever again.
But Fang Ran kept screaming desperately behind her, chasing her through the halls. The noise drew many guests from their rooms, opening doors to see what the commotion was about.
Mu Zheng considered herself to be relatively thick-skinned; usually, when Ye Baiwei asked her to buy something, she could slash a four-figure price tag in half without blinking an eye—unless there was truly no room for negotiation. But right now, she felt a profound sense of shame. She wanted to dig a hole and crawl into it. Compared to these two, she realized her skin was actually quite thin.
Perhaps because she was walking too fast and not looking ahead, Mu Zheng rounded a corner on the stairs and slammed right into a soft chest. A faint scent of roses wafted into her nose.
The scent was familiar to Mu Zheng—no, not just familiar, it was very familiar.
She snapped her head up. Sure enough, it was Ye Baiwei.
“Where is Secretary Mu planning to go? You’re in such a rush you aren’t even looking at the road.”
Mu Zheng was about to tell her to move out of the way, but before she could open her mouth, Fang Ran caught up.
“Zhengzheng, listen to my explanation! It’s really not what you think!”
Fang Ran froze when she saw Ye Baiwei’s familiar figure. Although Ye Baiwei had been wearing sunglasses at the carousel, her build and that dyed burgundy hair had left a deep impression.
She never dreamed that this female Alpha would be so good-looking. The woman hit every one of her aesthetic preferences perfectly, and Fang Ran couldn’t help but blush.
“You… you’re Zhengzheng’s boss, President Ye, right?”
“Oh? You actually remember me?”
Seeing Fang Ran’s bashful act made Ye Baiwei feel physically ill, but for Mu Zheng’s sake, she restrained the urge to curse.
Fang Ran, showing zero sense of shame, continued to make small talk: “President Ye, Zhengzheng must cause you a lot of trouble usually.”
Mu Zheng expected Ye Baiwei to follow Fang Ran’s lead and disparage her. But in the next second, she heard Ye Baiwei say in an icy, atypical tone: “Cause me trouble? Who told you she causes me trouble? Did you come up with that yourself, or did you hear it from some dark, shady corner?”
This retort choked Fang Ran. She stammered for a while before saying: “President Ye, you misunderstand. I didn’t mean that. I meant…”
Ye Baiwei gave her no room to breathe, interrupting: “If you didn’t mean that, then what did you mean? I know Secretary Mu’s professional capabilities better than anyone. It’s not your place as an outsider to teach me how to do my job!”
“President Ye, I—”
“If you have nothing worth saying, then don’t say anything. I’ve never liked listening to nonsense. If you don’t know what I like to hear, it’s best you keep quiet. Otherwise, if I get unhappy, you might not even get the chance to speak in the future.”
Fang Ran was gnashing her teeth in rage. However, she knew Ye Baiwei’s status was no simple thing; she wasn’t just any company boss. To be able to spend money on lovers everywhere—a normal boss would have gone bankrupt long ago.
Moreover, judging by Mu Zheng’s salary and the designer bags she could easily afford, only a massive conglomerate could be so wealthy. Going head-to-head with Ye Baiwei would be a death wish.
[So what if she’s slightly rich? Acting all stuck-up like a total bitch. As if I actually care about her—I don’t give a damn about her pocket change!]
[So ugly, go look in a mirror. Can’t even show respect to an Omega, what kind of Alpha is that? She should just vanish from the Earth!]
[Filthy bitch, how dare she snap at me. Why hasn’t she died of an STD yet!]
Ye Baiwei’s brows knit together. She usually wouldn’t deign to deal with such a disgusting woman, but hearing her have the nerve to curse her in her mind? She wasn’t going to hold back today!
“Secretary Mu, who is she?” Ye Baiwei deliberately raised her voice. “It’s my first time seeing someone so thick-skinned—trying to strike up a conversation with a stranger. This skin must be thicker than a city wall.”
Mu Zheng sensed the fury in Ye Baiwei’s voice. She was like a different person compared to a moment ago. Mu Zheng was shocked; usually, Ye Baiwei wouldn’t be this rude in front of strangers. Even if there was a conflict, she’d maintain a facade of “nothing is wrong.”
Was it because of the carousel incident? Did Ye Baiwei feel she had lost face and wanted to take revenge now that she had the chance?
That would indeed be very “Ye Baiwei.”
Still, playing dumb was as annoying as ever.
Mu Zheng explained truthfully: “To answer President Ye: she used to be my girlfriend. As for now… she is my ex-girlfriend.”
Hearing this, Fang Ran immediately chimed in: “President Ye, don’t listen to Zhengzheng’s nonsense. She’s just in a fit of temper. I am her girlfriend. We specifically booked a room to come here for a date this weekend!”
“I am not in a ‘fit of temper.’ I have made myself very clear.” Mu Zheng didn’t like discussing her private life in front of outsiders, especially Ye Baiwei—it made her feel humiliated.
Furthermore, a person like Ye Baiwei came from a background of “trash” herself. How could she possibly offer support against a person like Fang Ran? She’d probably think Mu Zheng was making a mountain out of a molehill and that this behavior was no big deal.
Therefore, Mu Zheng just wanted to leave this place and Fang Ran, and never see either of them again.
“President Ye, sorry for the scene. I’ll be going now.”
Ye Baiwei said nothing, but seeing Fang Ran try to chase after her, she felt a wave of disgust and stepped forward to block her path directly.
