An Inner Life of a Cold Beauty Omega Secretary - Chapter 22
“President Ye, what… is the meaning of this?!”
Ye Baiwei didn’t know exactly why she was doing it, but her heart instinctively didn’t want to let Fang Ran chase after Mu Zheng. “No meaning at all.”
Fang Ran was gnashing her teeth in rage, but she couldn’t afford to offend Ye Baiwei. Being an Omega facing an Alpha, she knew she would definitely come out on the losing end, so she could only try to be patient and talk “reason.”
But Ye Baiwei didn’t want to talk a single bit of reason with her. She refused to communicate directly; even looking at Fang Ran made her angry. Thinking back to the carousel incident, she really wanted to give the woman a slap and teach her some basic human decency.
“President Ye, I’m going after my girlfriend. What do you mean by blocking me?” Fang Ran said, a bit flustered.
Ye Baiwei let out a short laugh. “Didn’t you hear her just now? She said you’re her ex-girlfriend. Secretary Mu has already broken up with you, yet you’re still clinging to her. What’s the meaning of that? Don’t look at me like that; I’m not the least bit interested in your drama. It’s just that if you scare her off and I can’t find a suitable secretary for work, I’m putting that debt on your head.”
“My reputation out there isn’t exactly great—I’m sure you’ve heard a thing or two. I’ve gone through no less than a dozen secretaries, and Secretary Mu is the one I find most useful and satisfying. If she’s driven away by you and I can’t find a suitable replacement, I’ll make sure you never have a job again!”
Fang Ran: “You…!”
This wasn’t just an empty threat; Ye Baiwei truly had that kind of power. Usually, a massive conglomerate acting as a parent company has countless subsidiaries beneath it. Under those subsidiaries are countless brand companies of various scales, and all of them have numerous partners, forming a linked network.
If Ye Baiwei really moved against her, one word would be enough to ensure she could never get hired at any company for the rest of her life.
[Protecting Mu Zheng like that… it looks like what A-Yue said is true. Those two really have hooked up behind my back!]
[And she said she’d never be with an Alpha in her life—yet here they are, secretly together!]
[Damn it, if it weren’t for your money, I’d scratch your face off right now and make sure you, you bitch, could never find a partner for life!]
Sister, there’s a technology called “plastic surgery.”
Ye Baiwei almost laughed, but she didn’t want to waste any more time with this kind of person. She’d rather spend this energy coaxing Mu Zheng.
With that thought, Ye Baiwei turned and walked out in a decent mood.
Fang Ran stood there looking completely bewildered, wanting to curse but not knowing what to say. She thought Ye Baiwei was a total psycho—blocking her from chasing Mu Zheng, only to throw out a few threats and walk away. It was no different from being a lunatic.
When she finally snapped out of it, she realized she had forgotten the most important thing: if Mu Zheng ran away, she wouldn’t get the compensation money. If she didn’t get it, she would definitely go to jail. She didn’t want to go to jail!
Fang Ran desperately chased after them, but Mu Zheng was nowhere to be seen, and even Ye Baiwei, who had just left, was gone. She had no choice but to turn back to the hotel to find Chen Yue and renegotiate their next move.
Ye Baiwei, who had followed out, finally spotted Mu Zheng near the amusement park exit.
Mu Zheng was walking very fast—to be precise, she was jogging—and showed no intention of stopping. Ye Baiwei, worried she might do something drastic out of despair, followed slowly behind her.
She didn’t dare get too close, fearing Mu Zheng might get agitated and act irrationally. People suffering a breakup are often like this; moreover, since the main issue lay with the partner, her emotions were prone to exploding.
Consequently, after walking a short distance, Mu Zheng noticed her annoying boss. Compared to the betrayal Fang Ran brought her, she found Ye Baiwei even harder to accept.
“President Ye, just how much longer do you intend to follow me?” Mu Zheng stopped and asked.
Ye Baiwei stopped as well. If it were anyone else, they would be very embarrassed, but Ye Baiwei was thick-skinned and felt no such shame. “I felt it was too stuffy staying in the hotel, so I came out for a stroll. Besides, what evidence do you have, Secretary Mu, to prove I’m following you?”
Mu Zheng: “…”
Seeing her silence, Ye Baiwei added: “A claim without evidence is slander. Secretary Mu, slandering your superior—according to company regulations, what should the punishment be?”
Mu Zheng was so impressed by the woman’s level of shamelessness she could have prostrated herself. She was truly curious just how thick a person’s skin had to be to say such things so easily.
But then again, Ye Baiwei never had any “skin” to begin with. If she knew how to spell the word “shame,” she wouldn’t do such scummy things all the time.
Wait.
Why was she even dwelling on this?
Ye Baiwei’s shamelessness was famous far and wide. She must have been driven mad by anger today to even think about stopping to talk logic with Ye Baiwei.
Mu Zheng took a deep breath, adjusted her state, turned around, and continued walking.
Ye Baiwei didn’t say anything. Seeing Mu Zheng walk away, she followed behind, still maintaining a certain distance and not getting too close.
The two walked one after the other. Eventually, because Ye Baiwei and Mu Zheng’s appearances were too striking and Mu Zheng looked heartbroken, they looked exactly like a couple. To the uninformed, gossiping passersby, it looked like an Alpha who had made her Omega angry and knew she was wrong, but was too proud to apologize, so she just followed silently to ensure her safety.
“That Alpha following behind without saying a word—one look and you know she made her Omega angry.”
“Eighty percent likely. And look at her; she definitely looks like a playboy Alpha. Dressing like a showy peacock from the zoo and spreading her tail everywhere. No wonder her Omega is upset!”
“Now that you mention it, she does look like a total Scum A. No wonder she’s angry. Who likes their Alpha showing off everywhere? When they get home, she’ll have to kneel on a washboard to fix this!”
“Isn’t a washboard too light? Shouldn’t she kneel on a durian?”
“You have a point!”
As the gossiping crowd grew, Mu Zheng couldn’t stand it anymore. Flushing with shame, she had to find a place to stop.
Ye Baiwei smiled from behind. She had interacted with Mu Zheng for less than a week and hadn’t seen her display many unique emotions yet. She had thought the woman didn’t know how to be shy, but it turned out she was quite cute when she was embarrassed.
Like… hm… a chubby, angry hamster?
The more she looked, the more she saw it.
Ye Baiwei instinctively wanted to reach out and give her a pinch, but seeing the death stare Mu Zheng was giving her, she instantly broke into a cold sweat over her suicidal impulse. Judging by that look, if Mu Zheng had a knife in her hand, she would probably stab a hole in her without hesitation.
“Cough, cough. Secretary Mu, why have you stopped?”
Mu Zheng knew she was playing dumb and didn’t want to respond. But she also didn’t want to hear those gossiping bypassers mistake her and this Scum A for a couple. Gritting her teeth, she said nothing and walked straight into a bar near the amusement park.
Ye Baiwei knew she was in a bad mood and needed an outlet. For adults, there is often only one way to vent—drinking.
But Mu Zheng was an Omega, and bars are mostly full of Alphas. Going in alone was like a sheep entering a wolf’s den; it wasn’t safe. Ye Baiwei had no choice but to follow her in.
“Give me a vodka.”
The bartender paused. Seeing Mu Zheng was an Omega yet ordering such a strong spirit, he hesitated. “Vodka has a high alcohol content. I wouldn’t suggest an Omega drink it straight. Would you like to switch to something else?”
Ye Baiwei sat down beside her and smiled at the bartender. “Give her a cocktail instead.”
Mu Zheng turned and glared at her. “I want a vodka! Since when does President Ye care about what her subordinates drink?”
Ye Baiwei said: “You are my most capable secretary. If something happens to you, where am I going to find another one?”
As expected.
She knew Ye Baiwei wasn’t that kind.
Mu Zheng took the cocktail the bartender mixed and downed it in one go, saying nothing more.
