Be Quiet, This Scumbag Alpha Has The Gaokao - Chapter 3
The word “mother” was a forbidden zone Xu Ancheng did not find very easy to touch.
The car drove along the flat road. The only reason she was fairly skilled at driving was because, during the years she had worked part-time jobs, she had once been a boss’s part-time driver. Her boss—a rich woman in her forties—had driven a BMW, so Xu Ancheng had no problem driving this car at all. She could even do it quite comfortably.
Xu Ancheng’s mother chatted the whole way about amusing stories from Huncheng’s wealthy madam circles, as well as the latest fresh gossip about the second-generation heirs.
After the one-and-a-half-hour drive, Xu Ancheng was left marveling at the strange and varied lives of the rich second generation. The outstanding ones had been good at all kinds of sports since childhood, mastered various languages, gone to excellent schools, studied abroad for graduate school and then a doctorate, won scholarships, and entered Wall Street. The hopeless ones could not even get into high school, spent all day drowning in pleasure, wine, sex, gambling, and reckless startups, and got into different kinds of trouble every single day.
Between these two extremes, Xu Ancheng found a middle ground for herself: honestly be the child of a wealthy family, stay healthy and not do bad things, do not gamble, do not do drugs, do not pay for sex, do not start a business, and simply enjoy a plain, happy, comfortable life rich enough to last several generations.
Yuanfeng Mountain in the outskirts of the city was a place blessed with outstanding people and spiritual land, and the ancient temple in the mountains was famous far and wide for being efficacious. Xu Ancheng accompanied her mother into the temple to receive incense. Watching her mother kneel and bow with exceptional devotion, Xu Ancheng herself could only pray for good health and that all things would go smoothly.
By the time they descended the mountain, it was already noon. Xu Ancheng said, “You’re hungry, right? Let’s eat something before leaving.”
Her mother began sniffling again.
Xu Ancheng had not known her mother was originally such a sentimental person, and she also did not know what to do. Fortunately, her mother cried quickly and stopped just as quickly. The two of them went to eat a bowl of noodles. Xu Ancheng thought of how she had money now, so she added extra beef and side dishes.
After they finished eating, she saw her mother gazing at her gently and asking about the marriage.
What marriage?
Xu Ancheng stared blankly at her mother.
“Su Jiu. You chased her for two or three years, and didn’t she already agree? I originally thought you might become more sensible after getting married. I didn’t expect that before even getting married, you had already become better. It turns out Alphas really do need Omegas to manage them before they mature. I don’t know why I was never able to manage your father.”
Her mother’s mood sank again.
Xu Ancheng could not care about that right now. She gripped her mother’s hand tightly.
“Let’s not talk about anything else first. This marriage—I won’t marry her even if you beat me to death, unless you still want your daughter to live.”
Her mother: …Huh?
————————
At first, her mother did not believe Xu Ancheng’s alarmist talk. She only thought Xu Ancheng was too playful and had momentarily taken a fancy to some other Omega, shifting her affection away from Su Jiu. Considering Father Xu had no patience, had a violent temper, and never allowed anyone to say no to him, she did not plan on telling him.
But only a week later, in her madam circle, she heard that the Zhou family’s Alpha youngest son, that “glory to the ancestors,” had gotten into trouble.
“He and Director Chen were photographed at a hotel…” At a gathering of several Omega madams, the male bestie at the center of all the gossip told the story vividly, deliberately leaving half the sentence unfinished. He had always been the madams’ information hub.
Xu Ancheng’s mother let out several “oh my, oh my” sounds and received quite a shock.
“But isn’t that Director Chen an Omega? If he’s an Alpha, then how could…”
“It’s nothing new. If an Omega wants to torment someone, even an Alpha can’t take it. Alphas are all very fragile.” The male bestie touched up his makeup as he spoke in a mysterious tone. “Their methods are very creative. I heard when the people doing the secret filming broke in, aiya, it was truly eye-opening. When that little brat of the Zhou family saw someone come in filming with a phone, it was like he’d seen family. Snot and tears everywhere. Just imagine it.”
Oh my, oh my.
When Xu Ancheng heard her mother’s seamless stream of gossip, she froze for a moment, then immediately emphasized loudly, “Believe me. If you don’t want me to end up like Zhou Guangyao, you absolutely, absolutely must not let me marry Su Jiu! If I marry her, I’ll be even worse off than Zhou Guangyao!”
Her mother said, “Don’t talk nonsense. Saying it like that makes it sound as if Su Jiu was the one who tortured Zhou Guangyao.”
Xu Ancheng said, “I advise you not to guess.”
In the original story, Zhou Guangyao was a minor character who was relatively important to the plot. His exit was supposed to come after the Xu family went bankrupt. At that point, Xu Ancheng would already have become a stray dog that had lost its home, fallen onto the streets, and completely exited the stage as cannon fodder. She was not supposed to be in high spirits right now, preparing to marry Su Jiu.
Zhou Guangyao also should not have turned himself into such an undignified social joke, tormented by a male Omega in his sixties until he cried his eyes out.
Many things had already changed.
Xu Ancheng felt an intense sense of crisis. She did not know whether Su Jiu’s punishment for her would come early. She only knew that if she insisted on marrying Su Jiu, then she must simply have grown tired of living good days.
She stared blankly at the full-wall bookcase she had just built up bit by bit.
She felt that she had to save herself.
Save herself! Stay away from Su Jiu! Stay away from all the major characters! Take enough money and enjoy life!!
She had to find the one who held power in this family: Xu Wei.
Xu Wei rarely went home. Never mind where he went or what he was doing; anyone could imagine what he was doing. If Xu Ancheng wanted to find him, she could only go to the company.
Kunpeng Group was a resounding name in Huncheng, and Huncheng was a second-tier city. This also indicated that when the main storyline shifted to the primary battlefield of a new first-tier city, the Xu family was destined to become cannon fodder.
After informing the secretary at Xu Wei’s side in advance, Xu Ancheng drove into the underground parking lot of Kunpeng Group’s headquarters building. It happened to be the morning rush hour. The elevator was already mostly filled with people. Xu Ancheng remembered that around this time, Kunpeng Group should already have started having cash-flow problems. However, her father had always been shortsighted and arrogant. Through financing, loans, and a series of other operations, he could still keep things going for quite some time.
A delivery guy hurriedly stopped the elevator doors just as they were about to close.
Quite a few people in the elevator frowned. Only Xu Ancheng pressed the door-open button. The delivery guy said thank you, and Xu Ancheng put her hand back into her pocket.
The chairman’s office was on a high floor. The employees got off the elevator one after another. A tall woman wearing a hat and mask followed the crowd out on the fifteenth floor, then turned into the stairwell.
“Didn’t we say we would meet outside? Isn’t it a bit inconvenient for you to come here?” There was already a young woman waiting in the stairwell. When she saw her arrive, she quickly walked over and pulled her into a blind spot where absolutely no one would discover them.
“I saw someone I was a little concerned about, so I followed them in.” Under the hat and mask, she said this in a low voice and did not let the other person hear clearly. Then her tone returned to normal. “Kunpeng Group is now no more than a decorative shell. The surveillance downstairs stopped working properly ages ago. It doesn’t really count as inconvenient.”
She accepted the package the woman handed her.
“Thank you so much,” the woman said. “You really are very smart. I thought ruining Zhou Guangyao’s reputation would already be enough. I didn’t expect there to be a follow-up move.”
“Even trash has value. If something has value, it shouldn’t be wasted,” she said. “If the matter develops further, Kunpeng will feel the pain, and then they’ll investigate whether someone inside is causing trouble. Have you thought about your exit?”
“I was already on the optimization list. I’m an honest person, hardworking, good at enduring hardship, not good at refusing others, and my mouth is clumsy, so I don’t know how to show myself off in front of leaders. After this and that, no one in the department even knows I’m the one who holds the most core technology. This time, the optimization list has spread everywhere, but the supervisor still hasn’t come to talk to me. He’s probably waiting for me to spend money and use connections to beg him, or maybe he simply doesn’t care whether I leave or stay. After ten years in this company, I’ve seen through it. Promotions never include me, but when it comes to taking the blame, it’s always me. I gave up long ago and wanted to leave. A few days ago, I ‘accidentally’ discovered the supervisor’s extramarital affair, so I estimate he’ll tell me to get lost in a few days. I’ve decided to leave while keeping up a useless, cowardly appearance. In any case, only the people who do the actual concrete work know what I’m capable of. I guarantee that when something goes wrong, no one will think of me.”
A faint look of appreciation appeared on Su Jiu’s face. “I have a job here. At the moment, the salary isn’t high because I don’t have much money, but as long as you’re willing to come, the more I earn, the more you earn too. All computer-technology-related matters on my side will be handled by you.”
The woman fell silent for a moment.
“You can think about it,” Su Jiu said.
“No, you misunderstood.” The woman’s name was Wang Yidan, and she was also an Omega. She was a little uneasy. “I’m just a little embarrassed.”
“?”
“You’re too beautiful. I’m a little excited.” Wang Yidan’s eyes shone, and her cheeks flushed. “You might not know this, but I’ve actually watched your short dramas. Your acting is so good, and you’re so beautiful. Short dramas really limit you! I was originally planning to laze around uselessly at home for a few months, but you letting me work with you is no different from me winning the lottery. That’s right, I’m your dream-girl fan!! I’ll go! I’ll be there whenever you call!”
Su Jiu gave a small “mm” and reservedly revealed, “I’m going to an audition in a little while. This time, it’s for a web drama.”
“Wow!” Wang Yidan bounced twice, not showing the slightest bit of the dead, defeated air a corporate workhorse ought to have.
On the twentieth floor, Xu Ancheng met the female Omega secretary beside Father Xu. Her face was as lovely as peach blossoms, and her figure was slender and graceful. Xu Ancheng kept her eyes on her nose and her nose on her heart, then inwardly cursed: when the upper beam is crooked, the lower beam follows.
“The chairman is still in a meeting. Please wait a moment. I’ll go make you coffee right away.”
Xu Ancheng agreed and sat properly. When the secretary brought the coffee over, she glanced at Xu Ancheng from the corner of her eye. “You’re quite well-behaved today. Not like before, when you specifically chose the times your father wasn’t here to come looking for me, then complained I was wearing too many clothes.”
Xu Ancheng truly had to hand it to herself.
She coughed once, straightened her back, and blurted out a sentence: “I’ve recently started believing in Buddhism.”
The secretary: ?
“So I’m cleansing my heart and changing my ways, turning over a new leaf, doing one good deed a day, and from now on, I won’t have those worldly desires anymore.”
The secretary thought for a while, then said, “All right.”
Like she was coaxing a child.
Xu Ancheng had no solution, but fortunately, Xu Wei arrived very soon.
Xu Wei was over fifty. He was tall and strong, and his features were indeed handsome, though they faintly revealed an emptiness soaked through with alcohol, sex, money, and power. Xu Ancheng had no familial affection for him to begin with, so she went straight to the point. “I want to cancel the wedding with Su Jiu.”
Xu Wei said nothing. Sitting in his boss chair, he lit a cigar. Only after exhaling a mouthful of smoke did he give a scoffing laugh. “Have you taken a fancy to some other Omega again? Is she even better than Su Jiu? Introduce her to me sometime.”
Xu Ancheng’s eyelid twitched.
In the book, there had not been much description of the cannon-fodder father and daughter, Xu Wei and Xu Ancheng. But listening to Xu Wei’s words now, no matter how she heard it, it did not sound like the attitude a father should have toward his daughter’s partner. Combined with what the secretary had said just now, Xu Ancheng only felt that the Xu father and daughter were simply disgusting to the extreme in ways she had not known about. She could not help cursing inwardly and shook off a whole body of goosebumps.
“There’s no Omega from any family. I suddenly lost interest in Omegas. I’m definitely canceling the engagement. I’ve already notified the hotel. I don’t know who the invitations were sent to, so arrange for your people to follow up on that.”
“You think the marriage of Kunpeng Group’s only Alpha daughter is something you can decide on your own?”
Xu Wei walked up to Xu Ancheng. Xu Ancheng retreated half a step. She was afraid of smelling the stink coming from this old geezer’s body, even though Xu Wei paid great attention to cleanliness and maintenance.
Xu Ancheng decided to get into character. “Su Jiu is nothing more than a little actress from a poor family. She has no background at all. Isn’t it perfectly natural that I don’t want to marry her?”
“It’s a little too late to say these things now. Natural or not, the Xu family’s face cannot be lost. The wedding has long since been announced to all our relatives and friends. I’ve already personally visited and invited all the important figures. You say we won’t marry, and so we won’t? I know all about your little tricks. Let me tell you, from the hotel to the invitations, not a single person took your words seriously. Stop making trouble. You will honestly get married.”
Xu Ancheng could not talk to him at all. She could only grit her teeth. “Give me a condition. What will it take to cancel the engagement?”
