Foreseeing the Future: The Scheming Film Queen and I Got Married - Chapter 11
Dong Yao propped herself up and sat up. Waking from a hangover, her head felt heavy. It took a long while before her mind finally cleared a little.
After watching the concert last night, eating hotpot, and drinking two bottles of fruit wine, she did not really remember what happened afterward.
She glanced around the room. This should be a hotel.
They had played until so late yesterday that naturally there were no trains back. This must be the hotel they had reserved beforehand. Dong Yao and Lin Yunyi’s plan had originally been to stay here for one night before going back.
“You’re up,” Lin Yunyi said, sitting in front of the mirror and combing her hair.
Dong Yao hummed and asked, “How did we get back yesterday?”
Lin Yunyi turned her head and glanced at her. “I rode a horse in front, tied a rope around your feet, and dragged you all the way back. How else did we get back? How could we have gotten back? I carried you back, of course!”
Just talking about it made her angry.
Dong Yao coughed lightly and smiled awkwardly. “Thanks for your hard work, thanks for your hard work. When we eat lunch later, we’ll order the expensive stuff. My treat.”
Lin Yunyi snorted. “That’s more like it.”
Dong Yao crawled up weakly and went into the bathroom to wash up.
Just as she squeezed toothpaste onto her toothbrush, she heard Lin Yunyi shout from outside, “Hurry up. The train is at eleven. We can’t be late.”
While brushing her teeth, Dong Yao mumbled that she knew.
Lin Yunyi had already finished getting ready. She sat on the bed and waited for Dong Yao to finish tidying up. As she waited, she said, “Do you still remember what you did last night?”
While washing her face, Dong Yao replied, “What? Don’t tell me I molested you.”
Lin Yunyi said, “Get lost.”
“You didn’t molest me yesterday, but it was close enough. You molested someone else.”
“Yesterday, you clung to someone and tried to take off her clothes. You even ruined her clothes.”
“When she wouldn’t let you take them off, you bit her and even made her bleed. Let me tell you, with that female hooligan behavior of yours, if you had been a man, you would’ve been spending a day at the police station yesterday.”
Dong Yao poked her head out of the bathroom. “Are you making up a story?”
Lin Yunyi: “…”
Dong Yao did not take it seriously. After washing her face, she began changing clothes and combing her hair. After tidying herself up, her complexion clearly looked much better.
Finally, she took out her lipstick and applied a little in front of the mirror.
She had only drawn one stroke when her hand trembled and it went crooked. Dong Yao frowned and looked at the lipstick in her hand. Certain scenes surfaced in her mind.
In her memory, a masked woman appeared. She gently held Dong Yao’s head and told her to be good.
Her temples throbbed.
“Did I really pull at someone’s clothes yesterday?” Dong Yao came out of the bathroom and asked.
Lin Yunyi gave her an eye roll. “What else?”
“Who?”
“How would I know? I didn’t know her. Good thing that person had enough self-restraint, or you would’ve been in trouble.”
Dong Yao awkwardly scratched her head. She did not remember much. She only remembered that the other person seemed to be a woman, wearing a mask, with very pretty eyes and an especially gentle voice.
After packing up, they checked out, hailed a taxi, and went to the train station.
Dong Yao leaned her head against the car window. Her head felt heavy, and her chest felt stuffy. It was the aftermath of the hangover.
This road was constantly jammed. The car would brake, start, brake again, then start again. For someone already feeling unwell, it made her feel nauseous.
She pressed the window button and rolled the window down to get some air.
The taxi driver said, “The air-conditioning is on.”
Dong Yao said, “I feel like throwing up a little. I just want some air.”
“All right, then.” The driver turned off the car’s air-conditioning.
The wind brushed against her face, and Dong Yao let out a breath. She felt slightly better.
No one knew what had happened up ahead. A road that usually took ten minutes had somehow been jammed for half an hour.
Dong Yao’s gaze drifted outside the car window. Not far away was the place where they had eaten hotpot yesterday.
On the pillar at the entrance of the hotpot restaurant, four lipstick marks were still clearly left behind.
Dong Yao stared at those lipstick marks, and her expression froze. The memories lost after drinking surged back like a tide.
“Gu Shiqiu!”
“Sorry. I’m going to be rude.”
“Just one look. Just one look. I just want to confirm whether you’re a man or a woman. I promise I won’t look more than once…”
“…”
Dong Yao’s expression went blank. She slumped into the seat, stayed silent for three seconds, then grabbed her hair and let out a low “Ah.”
Her originally smooth long hair was clawed into a bird’s nest.
The taxi driver glanced at her through the rearview mirror and asked, “What’s wrong with your friend?”
Lin Yunyi looked at the person beside her and clicked her tongue.
Dong Yao looked at her resentfully. “It’s all your fault. Why did you order alcohol? Can you drink? Can I drink?”
Lin Yunyi clicked her tongue again. “So you remembered and now you feel embarrassed?”
Dong Yao turned her head away and ignored her.
After a moment of silence, Dong Yao started grabbing her hair again.
“Stop pulling at your hair. If you go bald, it won’t just be an embarrassing matter anymore,” Lin Yunyi said with a laugh.
Dong Yao flew into embarrassment-fueled anger. “Fine, I won’t pull my own hair. I’ll pull yours.”
As she spoke, she reached out to tug Lin Yunyi’s hair. In the end, Lin Yunyi won with an absolute advantage in strength, and Dong Yao had purely brought suffering on herself.
Dong Yao curled up in one corner of the seat, sighing from time to time. Why did that person just so happen to be Gu Shiqiu? What would Gu Shiqiu think of her? Would she think Dong Yao was some crazy, unhinged person?
Although she knew that she would have a connection with Gu Shiqiu later on, there was no need for it to begin like this!
“All right, how big of a deal is it? Look at how useless you are.” Lin Yunyi had grown tired of hearing her sigh. “In any case, you won’t see the person whose clothes you pulled at a second time. If you lost face, then you lost face.”
“What if I do see her a second time?”
“If you see her a second time, then apologize to her. How big of a deal is that? Who told you to do something that stupid?”
Dong Yao nodded, then asked very seriously, “What if she’s my future partner?”
Lin Yunyi fell silent for a moment, then said just as seriously, “Did drinking damage your brain?”
Dong Yao choked. She waved her hand. Forget it, forget it. Let Gu Shiqiu think whatever she wanted. Things were already like this anyway. The next time they met, Dong Yao would just pretend she had lost her memory.
That’s right. Mm. After comforting herself like this, Dong Yao immediately felt much more at ease.
After the exhausting journey, once Dong Yao got home, she collapsed directly onto the bed, planning to rest properly. She had thought she would fall asleep quickly, but after lying down, she found she had no sleepiness at all.
Dong Yao took out her phone and typed into the search bar:
Foreseeing the future.
Is foreseeing the future good or bad?
Is there any possibility Gu Shiqiu is a man disguised as a woman?
Is Gu Shiqiu male or female?
What are the signs of becoming bent?
Can sexual orientation suddenly change?
Can a relationship with a huge status gap have a result?
By the time she finished searching, her phone was almost out of battery. She had not gotten a single useful piece of information. Instead, her mind had become even more chaotic.
Compared to these things, shouldn’t she think about something more practical? For example, using this ability to foresee the future to buy a lottery ticket and get rich?
Dong Yao got out of bed, went to the desk, took out paper and pen, and analyzed the common factors among the previous times she had dreamed.
As she recalled them, she wrote down the time and number of times the transmigration had occurred, as well as some details she might have missed before.
First, she could see Gu Shiqiu every time.
Second, Gu Shiqiu had a mole on her wrist. After confirmation, it really existed in reality.
Third, every time, the transmigration happened after she fell asleep at six o’clock.
As for the third point, it was not accurate. She did not transmigrate to the future every time it was six o’clock. Sometimes it worked, and sometimes it did not.
There was one final point, something she had not noticed before: rain. Every time transmigration occurred, it rained.
The information she currently understood was roughly this.
Dong Yao put down her pen and stared at the information she had analyzed on the paper, sinking into thought.
Finally, she picked up the pen and wrote one sentence at the bottom of the page:
Gu Shiqiu is a man?
At first, she used a question mark. Later, she felt the question mark was not fitting enough, so she crossed it out and changed it to an exclamation mark.
Compared to herself being bent, Dong Yao was more willing to believe that Gu Shiqiu was a man. Although this idea was indeed extremely absurd, since foreseeing the future had already happened, then compared with that, Gu Shiqiu being a man did not count as anything.
Dong Yao touched her chin. There was still one point that was not right. In the future, she would be together with Gu Shiqiu. But if they were going to be together, there had to be some opportunity for it, right?
Could it be that after one interaction on stage at the concert and one drunken scene in front of her, Gu Shiqiu fell for her?
Dong Yao glanced at herself in the mirror. Proper features, delicate and clean-looking. And then… that was it.
How blind would Gu Shiqiu have to be to fall in love at first sight with a drunkard who went crazy from alcohol?
She could not figure it out.
For the next few days, Dong Yao kept waiting. Every day when six o’clock arrived, she would hope for rain.
But for ten consecutive days, it did not rain. Naturally, nothing happened.
Dong Yao looked at the television drama’s grand finale on the TV and sighed.
Forget it. Foreseeing the future or whatever—anyway, it did not affect her current life. She would deal with whatever came her way.
After thinking this through, Dong Yao picked up the box of materials she needed for painting and walked outside.
The mural from before was not finished yet. Since today was cloudy and not too hot, she might as well finish it.
She came to the wall and set up two phones for filming, using them to record the entire process of completing the painting so she could later edit it into a video and upload it to her account.
Dong Yao calmed herself and focused on painting. In the blink of an eye, the sun set in the west, and the final stroke of the mural was completed.
In the corner of the mural, Dong Yao wrote a neat character: “Dong.” Every time she finished a painting, she signed her name.
She stepped back a few paces to admire it, then nodded. It was pretty good, just as she had imagined.
Dong Yao packed up her things, put away the phones used for filming, and walked back.
In her mind, she calculated that she might have to stay up late tonight. These materials had to be edited overnight. Her weekly video had already been delayed by several days, and there were so many people urging her to update under her account that she barely dared to look.
Because of this matter of foreseeing the future, Dong Yao really had not done much of anything recently.
A black car drove past beside her.
The car’s tire rolled over a puddle.
With a splash—
The next second, an unlucky person was soaked from head to toe.
Dong Yao’s body stiffened, and a “What the hell” slipped from the corner of her mouth.
The black car stopped. A person got out from the driver’s seat, wearing a black suit. He had a sturdy build, and his tie was neatly fastened.
The man in the black suit said, “I’m truly sorry. Are you all right?”
Dong Yao tugged at the corner of her mouth and wanted to say she was fine, but she really could not bring herself to say it. The water in that puddle was black and smelly!!!
The man in the suit bent down and apologized again. “I didn’t notice there was a puddle here just now. I’m really very sorry.”
Dong Yao saw him bowing and apologizing repeatedly and did not want to make things difficult for him. “Forget it. It’s fine.”
The man in the suit let out a breath of relief. Seeing that her white T-shirt was covered in black specks, he said, “How about I compensate you for the clothes?”
Dong Yao said, “No need. My clothes already had a lot of paint on them. Forget it, it’s fine. You can go.”
As they spoke, the rear door of the car opened. A pair of black high heels entered her sight first. Her gaze moved upward: a tall, slender figure, smooth long hair, a short white dress, and an outstanding temperament.
She was completely out of place in this poor little town.
Dong Yao’s pupils shrank slightly in shock.
It was Gu Shiqiu.
