Foreseeing the Future: The Scheming Film Queen and I Got Married - Chapter 29
Dong Yao went home with her little mouth pouting. The moment she got home, her mother knocked her on the head twice.
She felt even more wronged.
Zhong Ximei was furious. “I went to the market to buy a few things. I was gone for less than two hours, and I asked you to watch the shop for a while, but you directly closed the door on me.”
It was all Gu Shiqiu’s fault. Dong Yao covered her poor head, feeling wronged.
After being scolded, Dong Yao sulkily went back to her room.
Zhong Ximei looked at the closed bedroom door and felt something was not quite right. Usually, no matter how she “hit or scolded” Dong Yao, this girl always acted shameless and clingy. Today, Zhong Ximei had only said a couple of things, yet Dong Yao had sulked and shut herself in her room?
Dong Yao looked at the little glass marble Gu Shiqiu had given her and pouted. Before, she had found it such a pleasant surprise and liked it terribly. Now, looking at it, it was displeasing.
Very displeasing.
She picked it up and was about to throw it into the trash can.
But just as she was about to throw it away, she pulled it back and carefully placed the glass marble back into the box.
Throwing it away… she still could not bear to.
Her phone rang. It was a message from Gu Shiqiu, saying she had arrived.
Dong Yao did not reply.
A while later, Gu Shiqiu sent another message. It was the link to the shampoo Dong Yao had asked about before.
Dong Yao still ignored her.
After another while, Gu Shiqiu sent another message. It was a photo of Gu Shiqiu’s dinner.
Dong Yao opened the picture and looked. Salad. So vegetarian. It looked bad just from seeing it.
Dong Yao did not reply.
Half an hour later, Gu Shiqiu sent another message, saying she was going to work and temporarily could not look at her phone or reply.
Dong Yao clicked her tongue and muttered to her phone, “You haven’t even noticed that I’m deliberately not replying to your messages?”
She threw the phone aside, looked at the glass marble in the box, and wanted to throw it into the trash again, but still could not bear to.
After hesitating again and again, she picked up her phone and replied with one message.
After work ended, Gu Shiqiu picked up her phone and received Dong Yao’s reply. Dong Yao had replied to the salad photo: Your dinner doesn’t look delicious at all.
Gu Shiqiu smiled and murmured, “This little one is still angry.”
How should she coax her?
That night, Dong Yao received a huge delivery package full of food. To be more accurate, it was full of things Dong Yao liked to eat.
Lightning flashed across the horizon. Heavy rain came pouring down, and with this rain, the temperature finally dropped completely.
Dong Yao stood by the doorway, enjoying the rain. The wind blew over, carrying dampness with it.
Dong Yao shrank her neck slightly and put on a jacket.
Summer had ended.
She raised her head and looked at the clock on the wall. It was almost six.
Dong Yao returned indoors, lay down, closed her eyes, and waited for the time to turn exactly six o’clock.
She felt a little expectant. She could see Gu Shiqiu again, even if it was the future Gu Shiqiu.
The clock turned to six o’clock exactly.
Dong Yao opened her eyes. At this moment, she was sitting on the floor, her head resting against the bed as she slept. The windows in the room were tightly shut, and the light was dim.
Dong Yao touched her sore, stiff neck. It was stiff because she had been sleeping while leaning over.
She swept her eyes around. It was the room she had come to many times before.
Dong Yao tried to stand up.
“Hiss.”
Her legs were numb. The sore, tingling feeling made her inhale sharply.
She did not dare move too much. She rubbed her numb legs, and they eased slightly.
“Cough, cough…” A faint cough came from the bed.
Only then did Dong Yao realize there was someone lying on the bed. She moved closer to look. The person on the bed had a towel placed on her forehead. Her brows were tightly furrowed, her face flushed, her head covered in cold sweat, and the corners of her lips were dry and cracked.
It was Gu Shiqiu.
Dong Yao frowned and touched her cheek.
Burning hot.
She had a fever, and a very serious one.
What should she do? What should she do?
Dong Yao immediately panicked.
Right, make a call. Send her to the hospital. Dong Yao looked around and found a phone on the bedside table.
She quickly walked over and dialed 120, but there was no signal.
Why was there no signal?!
Dong Yao ran to the window, pulled open the curtains, and looked outside. Outside, fierce winds were raging. From time to time, the howling sound of wind came through the tightly shut window. Several utility poles by the road had been blown over, and withered branches and leaves were swept up into the air.
Was this a typhoon?
It seemed the typhoon had caused communication to be cut off.
She could not call 120, and with such terrible weather, there was no way to go outside. She could only think of something herself.
Dong Yao softly called Gu Shiqiu’s name, wanting to ask whether there was any fever-reducing medicine at home.
But Gu Shiqiu only hummed in discomfort a couple of times and did not give any useful response.
Dong Yao had no choice but to search herself. But after rummaging through the entire house, forget fever medicine—she could not even find half a cold tablet.
“What are you looking for?” Suddenly, a weak voice came from behind her.
“You’re awake.” Dong Yao jogged over and placed her hand on Gu Shiqiu’s forehead. “You’re still very hot. Do you feel awful?”
Gu Shiqiu smiled. “It’s fine. I’ll be better after sleeping for a while.”
“Is there no fever medicine at home? I looked everywhere just now,” Dong Yao asked anxiously.
Gu Shiqiu shook her head. “No.”
Dong Yao poured a cup of warm water and helped her sit up. “Drink some water.”
Gu Shiqiu took the water and obediently drank it all.
“Lie down and sleep a little longer,” Dong Yao said.
Gu Shiqiu coughed dryly twice and weakly lay back down. Holding Dong Yao’s hand, she said, “It’s fine. Don’t be anxious. Don’t worry. I’ll be better after sleeping for a while.”
How could this be something that would get better after one sleep?
Gu Shiqiu once again fell into a deep sleep.
Dong Yao stayed by the bedside, continuously wiping her sweat and applying cold compresses.
Outside, the fierce winds came in waves. From time to time, she could hear the sound of something being swept up and smashing against the glass, making her, who was already anxious, even more uneasy.
She touched Gu Shiqiu’s forehead again. “Why is your temperature still so high? No…”
Dong Yao stood up and turned to leave. Cold compresses could not bring the fever down at all. She had to go out and buy fever medicine.
Suddenly, someone grabbed her wrist.
Gu Shiqiu’s hand, usually so cool, was now scorching hot.
“Where are you going?” Gu Shiqiu’s voice was hoarse and powerless.
Dong Yao said, “I’m going out. There’s no fever medicine at home. Lie down and rest properly. I’ll be back very soon.”
“I’m fine. Don’t leave,” Gu Shiqiu said.
Dong Yao said, “You have a fever. I need to go out and buy medicine.”
Gu Shiqiu half-propped herself up and sat up. There was no strength in her body, and her head was dizzy and heavy, but the hand gripping Dong Yao’s wrist showed no intention of loosening at all.
Gu Shiqiu turned her head and glanced outside the window. The wind was raging, and from time to time, flying billboards and branches could be seen being swept through the air. “With such a strong typhoon, you can’t go out.”
As she spoke, Gu Shiqiu bent over and began coughing violently, coughing as if her heart and lungs were being torn apart.
Dong Yao lightly patted her back, helping her catch her breath. Seeing her cough so badly made Dong Yao’s heart even more panicked.
No. She still had to go buy medicine.
Dong Yao tried to break free from Gu Shiqiu’s grip, but even though Gu Shiqiu was sick, her strength was somehow so great that Dong Yao failed to pry her hand off her wrist after several tries.
Dong Yao did not dare truly use force either.
Gu Shiqiu said, “Don’t make trouble. I’m very tired. Just stay at home obediently and keep me company.”
Dong Yao said, “Your fever is very serious right now.”
Gu Shiqiu rested her head on Dong Yao’s shoulder. Her breathing was faint, and she coughed softly from time to time.
Dong Yao’s nose felt sore, and her eyes reddened. If Gu Shiqiu kept burning like this, something would happen.
“Don’t be anxious. I know my own body. It isn’t that serious. If cold compresses don’t work, help me wipe the sweat off my body with warm water. Physical cooling will be enough. Don’t go outside. The typhoon outside is too dangerous,” Gu Shiqiu said weakly.
Dong Yao could not win against Gu Shiqiu and could only nod.
She brought warm water over. When she reached out to undo Gu Shiqiu’s clothes, her hand paused, and she swallowed once.
Gu Shiqiu was sick. She had to help her wipe away the sweat. Don’t think nonsense. Don’t think nonsense. After doing some mental preparation, Dong Yao finally reached out to undo the buttons of her clothes.
Why were these buttons so hard to undo?
Dong Yao’s hands trembled slightly.
After she undid the final button, the clothes slid down.
She had done enough mental preparation, but when the clothes fell, she still froze for an instant, then quickly turned her head aside, trying her best to avoid looking.
Actually, this was not her first time seeing it. She had seen it several times already. It was nothing.
Dong Yao’s ears turned completely red.
“I’m going to start wiping now.” Dong Yao tilted her head away. Because she did not dare look too much, her hand wiped randomly.
She touched a certain place…
Her hand jolted and withdrew.
“What are you doing?” Gu Shiqiu laughed weakly and helplessly.
Dong Yao took a deep breath, gritted her teeth, and looked at Gu Shiqiu.
Gu Shiqiu was sick. Dong Yao had to help her. She could not keep thinking about all sorts of nonsense.
After adjusting herself, Dong Yao properly wiped Gu Shiqiu’s sweat, trying her best to keep her eyes straight ahead. Although her ears were red and her face was heating up, she still helped wipe Gu Shiqiu’s entire body.
Every ten minutes, she wiped her once. After a long time of this, when she touched Gu Shiqiu’s forehead again, it was no longer so hot.
Dong Yao let out a long breath of relief. This method was useful.
Gu Shiqiu’s body was no longer breaking out in cold sweat. Dong Yao found a new piece of clothing and helped her put it on.
Halfway through dressing her, Dong Yao’s gaze landed on Gu Shiqiu’s shoulder.
A black snowflake tattoo.
She had noticed it just now while wiping Gu Shiqiu’s sweat. This tattoo stood out especially against Gu Shiqiu’s snow-white skin.
Dong Yao reached out and touched the tattoo. It felt slightly uneven, like a scar. Was this tattoo used to cover a scar?
Gu Shiqiu dodged a little. “It tickles.”
Dong Yao asked, “Were you injured here before?”
Gu Shiqiu gave an “mm.”
A scar that needed to be covered by a tattoo—one could imagine that the injury must have been very serious before.
Such a deep scar must have hurt a lot.
Dong Yao had just wanted to ask when she had gotten injured, but before the words came out, Gu Shiqiu suddenly leaned closer and hugged her.
Dong Yao’s body stiffened. For a moment, she did not know where to put her hands. With nothing covering Gu Shiqiu’s skin, the sensation was far too distinct.
Gu Shiqiu buried her head in the hollow of Dong Yao’s shoulder and said, “Let me hug you for a while.”
