Foreseeing the Future: The Scheming Film Queen and I Got Married - Chapter 30
Gu Shiqiu tightened her arms, holding Dong Yao a little closer.
As Gu Shiqiu pressed closer, Dong Yao’s body grew increasingly stiff.
They maintained this position for half a minute. During that half minute, Dong Yao’s heartbeat became abnormal. It beat faster and faster, faster and faster, as if it were about to leap out of her chest.
Gu Shiqiu rubbed against the hollow of Dong Yao’s shoulder. “Your heartbeat… is very fast.”
Dong Yao’s expression stiffened.
She heard it. They were hugging so tightly, with zero distance between them. It would have been hard not to hear.
“Is… is it? No, right? You heard wrong.” Dong Yao coughed lightly, stubbornly refusing to admit it.
So embarrassing. But something like a heartbeat could not be controlled.
Gu Shiqiu laughed once and said nothing more.
After another half minute, Dong Yao reminded her, “Um, why don’t you put your clothes on? Your fever just went down, and your body is weak. It won’t be good if you catch a chill again.”
Gu Shiqiu rubbed against Dong Yao’s neck and burrowed farther into her arms. “No.”
Gu Shiqiu’s action suddenly made Dong Yao think of her WeChat profile picture: a big orange cat.
At first, Dong Yao had felt that Gu Shiqiu’s image was not at all similar to that orange cat. But now, seeing her childishly refuse to put on clothes and keep burrowing into Dong Yao’s arms, she really was exactly like a little cat acting spoiled.
Dong Yao laughed. “Why not? Won’t you be cold if you don’t wear clothes?”
“You’re very warm. I just need to hug you.” Perhaps because she was sick, Gu Shiqiu’s voice at this moment was soft and tender.
She really sounded just like a little cat meowing.
Dong Yao felt as if her heart was about to melt.
This Gu Shiqiu was so different.
Dong Yao slightly lifted her hands that had nowhere to go, hugged Gu Shiqiu back, softened her tone, and coaxed her like coaxing a person. “Even if I’m warm, you still have to wear clothes.”
Gu Shiqiu said, “No.”
Dong Yao giggled. For some reason, Gu Shiqiu’s shameless, spoiled behavior struck right at her heart.
Dong Yao could not help indulging her. “All right, then don’t wear them. We’ll just hug.”
Dong Yao held her tighter, giving her warmth and not letting her catch cold.
Gu Shiqiu gave a soft “mm.”
Gu Shiqiu did not move or make a sound for a long time, continuing to hug her like this. Dong Yao’s hands and feet began to feel a little numb.
Dong Yao asked softly, “Are you asleep?”
Gu Shiqiu said, “No.”
“Then do you want to get up and lie down? That would be more comfortable,” Dong Yao asked gently.
“No.” Gu Shiqiu hugged Dong Yao tightly, as if afraid Dong Yao would push her away.
Dong Yao found it funny, but since Gu Shiqiu refused to let go, she did not force her. Numb feet were just numb feet. After all, her family’s cat wanted a hug. Could she push her away?
Even if her feet went numb, she still had to hold her!
While holding Gu Shiqiu, Dong Yao accidentally touched the tattoo on her shoulder again, its surface uneven under her fingertips.
Dong Yao remembered that when Gu Shiqiu had worn the white short dress before, after Dong Yao spilled noodle soup on her and helped wipe it off, she had not seen this tattoo.
That white short dress would have revealed the spot on her shoulder where the tattoo was.
In other words, during the time period Dong Yao came from, Gu Shiqiu had not yet been injured. She was injured later.
Did that mean, after Dong Yao went back, she could prevent Gu Shiqiu from being injured?
Dong Yao rubbed the tattoo lightly with her fingers.
Gu Shiqiu dodged. She felt itchy.
Dong Yao asked, “Why did you tattoo a snowflake?”
Gu Shiqiu said, “Because it snows in winter.”
Because it snows in winter? Dong Yao froze for a moment, then reacted. Was the reason Gu Shiqiu tattooed a snowflake because Dong Yao’s name contained the character for winter?
Dong Yao’s expression softened, and she hugged her a little tighter.
“When you got hurt, it must have hurt a lot, right?” Dong Yao asked.
After a long while, there was no response.
“Gu Shiqiu?” Dong Yao called softly.
Gu Shiqiu lazily hummed.
So she had fallen asleep.
Dong Yao gently released her, helped her put on her clothes, and covered her with the quilt.
Dong Yao stroked Gu Shiqiu’s face. After falling asleep while sick, she looked so obedient.
Dong Yao wanted to ask her about the injury on her shoulder, but she could not bear to wake the sleeping person. Just as she was hesitating, the room’s ceiling light made two zapping sounds and turned on.
The light illuminated the dim room.
Dong Yao glanced outside the window. The violent wind had already calmed down.
Since the electricity had returned, communication should have recovered too. Dong Yao picked up the phone, and as expected, there was signal.
She tapped open the search bar.
There might be news from that time about Gu Shiqiu’s shoulder injury. As long as Dong Yao knew the exact time and location, she should be able to prevent the incident from happening.
She entered the keywords “Gu Shiqiu injured snowflake tattoo,” and soon, dozens of news reports from that year popped up.
Dong Yao hurriedly glanced through them, mainly looking at the time. August 9, 2021, at seven in the evening, on the way back to the hotel after finishing a signing event, she encountered an accident…
Dong Yao quickly caught the most important information and firmly committed it to memory.
There were only two days left until August ninth. Time was a little tight, but she should make it.
Dong Yao turned back to look at the person lying on the bed.
The scene before her gradually blurred. Dong Yao was already very familiar with this feeling. This situation meant she was about to go back.
Dong Yao opened her eyes. Sure enough, she had returned to her own room.
When she fell asleep at six, the sky had still been bright. Now, it was completely dark.
Dong Yao picked up her phone. In the darkness, the light was glaring, and she narrowed her eyes to adjust.
The phone showed eleven o’clock. She had slept for five hours.
Dong Yao’s gaze landed on the calendar. Today was August 7. There was still one day until August 9. In other words, the day after tomorrow, Gu Shiqiu would encounter an accident on the way back to the hotel after finishing work.
What kind of accident? She did not know. The news had not mentioned it.
Dong Yao recalled the wound on Gu Shiqiu’s shoulder. It was deep, not fatal, but if possible, she really wanted to prevent the accident from happening.
Gu Shiqiu’s beautiful shoulder was not suited for a tattoo at all.
Dong Yao made up her mind.
Then her stomach growled.
She had fallen asleep without eating dinner, so naturally, she was hungry now.
Dong Yao quietly slipped out of her room and headed to the kitchen to look for food. She absolutely could not be discovered by her mother, or she would be scolded. Sleeping when it was time to eat, then eating when it was time to sleep—if she did not get scolded, that would be strange.
In her own home, Dong Yao acted like a thief. She turned on the living room light and tiptoed carefully, trying not to make the slightest sound.
“Let me see what there is to eat.” As Dong Yao muttered to herself, she opened the fridge.
After searching around, she found only vegetables and meat. There was nothing she could eat directly. Just as Dong Yao was hesitating—
Creak.
The door to the room on the left opened.
Zhong Ximei was holding a cup in her hand. She had probably woken up thirsty and come out to pour water.
Dong Yao stood at the fridge door, and the two stared at each other.
Zhong Ximei clicked her tongue. “When I told you to eat dinner, you insisted on going back to your room to sleep. Now you know you’re hungry?”
Dong Yao stuck out her tongue and laughed sheepishly.
“I already knew what kind of person you are. I left food for you in the pot in the kitchen. Heat it yourself.” Zhong Ximei looked at her with disdain.
Dong Yao said, “Mom, you’re so good to me!”
Zhong Ximei was too lazy to bother with her. She poured water, drank it, and after drinking, went back to her room.
While eating, Dong Yao did not forget to think about Gu Shiqiu’s injury.
Her phone dinged. It was a message from Lin Yunyi.
Lin Yunyi: Retribution really never misses!!!
Dong Yao ate while typing a question mark back.
Lin Yunyi: Yu Fei got locked up. Retribution really never misses. Retribution never misses. A joyous occasion for all!
Dong Yao stopped chewing.
Yu Fei? Why did that name sound a little familiar? It seemed like she had heard it somewhere before.
She remembered. The woman who had previously come to her shop to say bad things about Gu Shiqiu seemed to be named Yu Fei.
Lin Yunyi sent over a one-minute voice message. Then a second. A third…
Looking at those voice messages, Dong Yao’s head hurt a little. Usually, she could not even be bothered to tap them open and listen, but this matter involved Gu Shiqiu.
Dong Yao opened the voice messages.
“Yu Fei is the boss of Mingwen Entertainment. Before, that damn company was like it had some grudge against Gu Shiqiu. It kept clinging to our Shiqiu and causing trouble. As if they couldn’t eat without spreading rumors.”
“Some time ago, Mingwen Entertainment was sued. Later, I heard the company went bankrupt. Just now, there was another latest update. Besides spreading rumors, their company also did some illegal dealings and got exposed. Yu Fei, as the legal representative of the company, got taken in…”
Dong Yao listened to all the voice messages Lin Yunyi sent and understood the general situation.
Yu Fei. Surname Yu.
Dong Yao suddenly remembered that in the news article about Gu Shiqiu’s accident, the criminal suspect also seemed to be surnamed Yu. Although the specific name had not been mentioned, it had used “a certain Yu” instead.
Could it have been Yu Fei?
But that did not make sense either. Even if Yu Fei intended revenge, she would have no chance. A person already detained for investigation could not run out of jail, right?
That was obviously not very possible.
Dong Yao’s expression gradually became serious.
At the signing event.
Fans queued in an orderly manner. A girl about seventeen or eighteen sat down in front of Gu Shiqiu and sweetly called, “Sister Shiqiu.”
Gu Shiqiu smiled in response. “Hello.”
The girl handed over the album. Because she was in such close contact with her idol, her face turned bright red.
When the girl had been waiting in line—no, before she had even come to the signing event—she had already prepared what she wanted to say when they met. She had drafted her lines several times. But when she truly met Gu Shiqiu, all her previous preparations became useless.
“I… um, I…” The girl became somewhat incoherent.
Gu Shiqiu raised her head to look at her. “Is it okay if I sign here?”
The girl nodded like a pecking chicken, then continued speaking incoherently.
Gu Shiqiu smoothly wrote down her name, her handwriting flowing and graceful. While signing, she said, “It’s all right. Take your time. There’s no hurry.”
The girl’s face flushed red. “It’s just, I really, really like you. Ah, I don’t know what I want to say anymore. It’s just, I actually had a lot of things I wanted to say to you, but now I’ve forgotten all of them.”
Gu Shiqiu finished signing and handed the album back to her.
The girl held the album in her arms. “Anyway, Sister Shiqiu, I hope you can be well and be happy.”
Gu Shiqiu smiled. “I will. You also have to be well, Weak Little Mantis Shrimp.”
The girl froze for a moment, then jumped up excitedly. “Sister Shiqiu, you know my username!!”
Gu Shiqiu hummed. “I remember. You often edit videos of me. I’ve watched them.”
The girl happily jumped several times. Because she was too happy, she almost fell.
Gu Shiqiu hurriedly reached out to support her. “Careful.”
The girl’s face was completely red. “Thank you.”
The fans waiting in line behind her became excited one by one as well.
“Ah, my baby is really so gentle.”
“Qiuqiu’s voice is so soft. I want to carry her home.”
“…”
After that, one fan after another came forward. Facing each person, Gu Shiqiu responded with a smile, without the slightest impatience.
One person left, and soon it was the next person’s turn. Gu Shiqiu habitually reached out to shake hands.
Just as her hand stretched out, after seeing the person’s face in front of her, her expression paused for an instant.
That official smile stopped.
A second later, a gentle smile from the heart spread across her face.
