Chapter 17
The two of them drank a little red wine during dinner. Huo Wan’s constitution was sensitive, basically the type whose face turned red the moment alcohol touched her lips. Lin Dang knew this too and had thought of persuading her to drink less, but Huo Wan was stubborn and refused, insisting on drinking.
And so, it had turned into the current situation.
In the private room, the two of them sat on Japanese-style tatami mats. The transparent wineglass on the table still held a dark red liquid.
The girl’s head was pillowed on Lin Dang’s thigh, her cheeks faintly flushed. A few messy strands of hair lay casually against her face, her eyes half-narrowed. Both her hands were wrapped around Lin Dang’s waist, and her whole person looked like a little kitten curled up in a ball and dozing.
Lin Dang reached out and carefully brushed aside the strands of hair on the other girl’s face. Huo Wan really was very beautiful.
Now, the girl’s features had already settled. Although the two of them were not studying at the same school, Lin Dang knew without needing to think that there must be a large number of pursuers behind this girl.
Speaking of which, it was strange. The two of them… after depending on each other all these years, neither had ever found a boyfriend.
For her, it was because she did not want to, and she had not met anyone she liked.
But what about Huo Wan?
She had always felt that someone like Huo Wan, who loved to play and had an open personality, should have found it very easy to date.
“What are you thinking about again? I’m leaving tomorrow. Talk to me.”
When Huo Wan opened her eyes, what she saw was Lin Dang spacing out.
The girl’s voice had a slightly unique quality, especially after she drank. Lin Dang had said a long time ago that Huo Wan’s voice… was simply too easy to make people develop a good impression of her.
Even when she spoke to people normally, it could make someone hear a sense of her hooking at their mind, let alone in this kind of situation.
The pot on the table was still sending up clouds of steam. The dim yellow light on the ceiling fell on the side of Lin Dang’s face, making her look somewhat warm.
Huo Wan changed positions, tightening her arms around Lin Dang’s waist even more. Her head was no longer pillowed on the other girl’s thigh, but burrowed toward the soft part of the other girl’s lower belly… although Lin Dang did not have a soft belly.
She knew the other girl had a very good figure…
Huo Wan thought somewhat uncontrollably.
Already an adult, she had gradually learned quite a lot about that side of things through the internet and the people around her. Between girls and girls… the only person she could imagine was Lin Dang.
This kind of private, intimate time together was, to her, not only enjoyment, but even more a kind of torment.
Mm… over the years, borrowing the title of best friend, she had openly and secretly taken quite a few liberties with the other girl and gained quite a few advantages. From the beginning, when she was restrained and did not dare have intimate contact with Lin Dang, to later when she became utterly unbridled, she had only sunk deeper and deeper.
She would just treat it as a bit of interest collected from all these years of secret love. In any case, Straight Girl Lin had always been this dense. No matter how crazily Huo Wan hinted, it had not had much effect.
She had taken a kind of poison, and there was no cure left for her.
Lin Dang often said that she had no schemes at all when it came to her. Huo Wan wondered whether, after Lin Dang discovered the truth in the future, she would regret those words so much she would want to cut out her own tongue.
Huo Wan felt that all of her schemes had been used on Lin Dang. It was just that this straight-as-steel woman did not know it.
Very helpless, but there was nothing she could do.
For example, when she acted spoiled… did Lin Dang really not feel there was anything improper about acting spoiled with a best friend like this?
Of course Lin Dang did not feel there was anything improper. She attributed all of this to the deep friendship between them. Instead, she felt that Huo Wan was very cute like this.
It was just that the two of them had been together every day during this period, so she really could not think of anything else to say.
She felt somewhat troubled, but she also did not want to dampen Huo Wan’s mood.
So she stroked the other girl’s head.
“Then how about… I tell you Grimm’s Fairy Tales?”
And so Straight Girl Lin really sat there in the private room with complete seriousness and began telling Grimm’s Fairy Tales to the person in her arms. The atmosphere was very good, and two beautiful people holding each other looked very pleasing to the eye. It was just… if Lin Dang had not been telling a bedtime story meant for children, Huo Wan felt it probably would have been even better.
Early the next morning, Huo Wan flew away from this city.
Lin Dang began her formally busy life. Aside from going to the company at a fixed time every day, she also had over a year of schoolwork left that she had to complete.
She needed to obtain that degree certificate.
The few friends she had once spent time with, whose relationships with her could be considered decent, belatedly discovered that Lin Dang, who had always played with them, was actually the daughter of a wealthy family. Lin Dang’s figure began appearing less and less on campus, aside from the necessary classes for her major.
Huo Wan also went back to continue her studies. She did not choose to graduate and directly enter a hospital to work, even though with her grades at Zhongda, plus her family elders’ connections, several major hospitals had already extended olive branches to her. She chose to continue taking the postgraduate exam and pursue further study.
On the day of her graduation ceremony, Lin Dang appeared at her school without warning. Her black professional shirt was tucked meticulously into her suit pants, her long hair falling over her shoulders as she stood at the entrance of the auditorium, staring without blinking at the person on the stage.
After being tempered by society and reality, the current Lin Dang’s entire aura had become even more reserved and steady. Standing there, even without saying a word, she could make people feel her presence.
Several students seated nearby noticed that a beautiful woman with an outstanding air had suddenly appeared by the entrance, and they kept turning back to look at her.
Lin Dang had just finished an executive meeting at the company and had gone straight to the airport.
She did not want to miss any important moment in Huo Wan’s life. She ought to be part of all of them. These… were all witnesses to the friendship between them.
For an instant, she suddenly felt a little puzzled again. This thing between them… was it really friendship?
Lin Dang’s sudden appearance caught Huo Wan completely off guard, but more than that, it filled her with delight and joy. She had tactfully tested the waters before and asked whether the other girl had time today, but the other girl’s answer had been that she was busy, so Huo Wan had not mentioned her graduation ceremony.
However, who was Lin Dang? After Huo Wan had come to her with such a strange question and then said nothing afterward,
she simply had her secretary investigate it.
As the representative of the graduating students giving a speech onstage, Huo Wan mechanically recited the speech she had memorized long ago, but her gaze kept drifting uncontrollably toward the entrance of the auditorium, because standing in that corner was the girl she admired.
Throughout the entire speech, she was dazed and absent-minded. After finally finishing the last word with great difficulty, the dean of the medical school personally awarded her bachelor’s degree certificate and, on behalf of Zhongda’s professors, welcomed her to continue staying for further study.
After Huo Wan politely bowed and stepped down from the stage, she could no longer hold back her leaping heart and ran straight toward the auditorium doors. Usually, she disliked how her roommates were not reserved at all whenever they saw their boyfriends, but today, she truly and fully experienced that feeling for herself.
The person she liked was right within reach. What could be more important than that?
