My Master Is a Great Dragon, Clinging to Me Every Day! - Chapter 22
There were still two matches before it was Xu Zhiyi’s turn.
Xu Zhiyi stood at the back and watched the arena. Most of the people there were direct disciples. Even that annoying Hua Yizhi from earlier had followed close behind.
“Just wait, Xu Zhiyi. You’ll be the first one knocked down later.”
“We’re waiting to see your joke. Don’t disappoint us.”
Hua Yizhi came over.
He did not seem to realize how annoying he was at all. He was covered in jewels and finery, and several disciples from Xiuyun Peak beside him covered their eyes.
If they looked at him a few more times, they really might be blinded.
“Fine. If I win, what will you do?”
Xu Zhiyi copied his posture, crossing her arms over her chest and holding her sword as she glared back at him.
What a big idiot.
Unlike the other elders, who each had over a dozen personal disciples, Xu Zhiyi stood alone at the arena waiting area.
However, Xu Zhiyi did not think this was a bad thing.
Was it really a good thing to have too many monks and too little porridge?
Besides, she had Master teaching her one-on-one. This was practically private tutoring.
“Naturally, I, Hua Yizhi, keep my word!”
“If you win, I’ll do whatever you tell me to do. But if I win, you’ll have to do whatever I tell you to do.”
“How about it, Xu Zhiyi? Don’t tell me you don’t dare agree.”
He felt confident.
With Xu Zhiyi’s half-baked ability, she could not even hold a sword properly, let alone perform an entire set of sword formulas. If she stood out there, she would only make a fool of herself.
Right now, she was just a dead duck with a hard mouth.
“Why wouldn’t I dare agree?”
“Fine. I don’t want anything from you. I only want you to admit that your skills are inferior.”
Xu Zhiyi glanced at him, too lazy to keep talking with these mentally childish people. Sure enough, staying in school too long made people stupid!
“Hmph. How could I lose?”
The two disciples following behind Hua Yizhi did not dare make a sound. They had only just been scolded by their eldest senior brother.
“Eldest Senior Brother, there’s no need to get angry with Xu Zhiyi, right? Even if you win, it won’t be glorious.”
A person behind him walked over. His face was delicate and handsome, and he wore the same outfit as Hua Yizhi. However, he did not have that arrogant aura. Looking at his features, there was instead a gloomy feeling about him.
He gently patted Hua Yizhi’s shoulder. On the surface, it seemed like he was trying to mediate, but in reality, he was fanning the flames.
That sounded a little strange.
Was he mocking her indirectly?
What did he mean, “even if you win, it won’t be glorious”?
“Junior Brother, aren’t you usually the one who dislikes her the most? Why are you trying to persuade me now?”
Hua Yizhi was not quite used to Ji Ming patting his shoulder. He shook himself and shrugged Ji Ming’s hand off.
All of these words fell clearly into An Chengxi’s ears.
Her gaze swept over. Those were the two disciples of Blazing Flame Peak, the two disciples Senior Brother Chiyan doted on and valued the most.
Wucha leaned lazily against her chair. Originally, she had not planned to come watch today, but unfortunately, Sect Leader Senior Brother had insisted that she come.
She truly could not refuse.
Supporting her temple with one hand, Fairy Wucha felt the weather was hot, so she turned her gaze toward her junior sister.
“Chengxi, make me a block of ice.”
After saying that, she handed over the bronze fruit plate she had just emptied. An Chengxi had been staring at the situation near the corridor by the arena because she was afraid Xu Zhiyi would be bullied.
Then a bronze gleam appeared before her eyes.
It turned out that Fairy Wucha could not bear the heat and was asking her for a block of ice.
An Chengxi only glanced at her faintly.
But Fairy Wucha knew An Chengxi would definitely make the ice. Sure enough, the weight in her hand suddenly sank, so heavy she almost could not hold it.
An enormous block of ice appeared there, cold air rising from it. White mist drifted outward and floated before her nose, the chill refreshing her heart and lungs.
Fairy Wucha comfortably leaned back again.
“You should stop staring at that precious disciple of yours. Look at Xiao Ling. She saves me so much worry.”
“If that disciple of yours really fails to live up to expectations, then just arrange her future properly. A mortal’s lifespan only passes in a few hurried years.”
“When the time comes, your senior brothers and sisters will help you choose another one.”
The words were crude, but the logic was not.
An Chengxi knew that this senior sister of hers had always spoken without restraint, saying whatever came to mind. Even when their master had still been alive, she had often angered him.
“I believe in Yi’er.”
It was still the same old sentence.
Wucha waved her hand, letting her do as she pleased. Then she grabbed another handful of melon seeds and ate them with great interest while focusing on the competition below.
“Ji Ming!”
The elder on the stage called out while looking at the long name list in his hand. He frowned, then read out the second name.
“Xu Zhiyi!”
At this moment, the disciples below burst into loud laughter. Aside from the few outer disciples and nominal disciples present, all the personal disciples laughed so hard their mouths could not close.
Some even slapped their thighs.
“Hahahahahahaha! We’re in for a show today. It’s actually that waste?”
“Why isn’t He Fengyue going up? They sent this useless thing instead? Our Blazing Flame Peak’s Second Senior Brother Ji Ming will definitely win!”
“Good luck, Senior Brother Ji! We believe in you!”
Ji Ming smiled faintly and proudly took off his sword. He spun it once in his hand, then slowly walked to the center of the arena.
What were they laughing at? A bunch of kindergarten children.
Xu Zhiyi’s skirt was stirred by the wind. For the convenience of the match, she wore black wrist guards today.
Her toes tapped lightly, and with a lightness skill, she leapt up. On the arena beneath the blazing sun, a graceful figure landed.
She raised her elegant brows, holding her sword in hand. A breeze blew past, and loose strands of black hair brushed across her fair face.
She looked full of vitality, like bright spring sunlight.
For a moment, everyone was somewhat stunned. This was not quite like Xu Zhiyi, but they could not say exactly what was different. She was still flamboyant, yes.
But she was no longer as annoying as before.
She was like a red camellia blooming to its fullest, and also like the tender green willow branches of March.
“Please give me your guidance.”
The sword left its sheath, and cold light flashed.
Water-colored ripples lingered around the blade. Beneath the sunlight, the watery ripples refracted seven-colored light. Xu Zhiyi pointed the tip of her sword toward the ground.
Previously, she had always buried herself in practice alone in her room. Now she finally had a chance to test how good her technique was.
“Please give me your guidance!”
Ji Ming was not nearly as polite. With a loud roar, his blade immediately turned burning red, wrapped in raging flames. He stepped forward, his footwork shifting.
It carried the intent of surging fire, like a wildfire sweeping across the plains.
So it was this move. When Xu Zhiyi had been going through the books in the study earlier, she had found many of the original owner’s sword manuals. Inside were not only Shuanghan Peak’s sword techniques, but also sword techniques personally created by other elders.
Xu Zhiyi did not know where the original owner had gotten so many sword manuals. Moreover, it seemed every book had been read and flipped through quite a few times.
Among them was the move Ji Ming was using now: Wildfire Sweeping the Plains.
With one swing of the blade, layers of flames pressed the opponent into a corner, like sparks igniting a prairie. A smile flashed in Ji Ming’s eyes.
With just one move, he could knock Xu Zhiyi down from her horse.
