Seducing and Flirting with Boss O While Stockpiling in the Apocalypse (GL) - Chapter 12
With a “click,” the door opened directly.
The scene froze on Nan Shuwan’s smiling expression and her waving hand.
Seeing Luo Sheng’s frost-covered face suddenly appear, Nan Shuwan—who wasn’t prepared yet—stiffened on the spot. Her upturned lips slowly pressed down, her arm dropped, and her entire being radiated an air of extreme awkwardness.
“Haha… why are you here?” As soon as the words left her mouth, Nan Shuwan wanted to slap herself. This was Luo Sheng’s home; where else would she be!
So she quickly changed the subject, “I bought some groceries, why don’t we have dinner together?”
Luo Sheng continued to look at her with an expression that said she didn’t understand her game. She leaned against the door with her arms crossed, as if asking: What kind of tricks are you playing now?
Seeing the other party remain unmoved, Nan Shuwan changed her tone to something sweet and delicate, as if she had poured ten pounds of honey down her throat. She hooked her finger through the grocery bag and dangled it in front of Luo Sheng’s eyes. “You’re a pretty good cook. I just got back; I wonder if I have the chance to taste your cooking again?”
Nan Shuwan thought she was being very amiable and approachable, but to Luo Sheng’s ears, it sounded like a boss assigning work to an employee. She had resigned long ago; why was this woman still putting on the airs of a leader?
Luo Sheng shook her head decisively, “No.”
Heh, I knew it would be like this.
Nan Shuwan wasn’t surprised by the answer at all. She wasn’t annoyed either; she simply pulled her hand back discreetly. She had plenty of time now to win Luo Sheng over; there was no need to rush. After all, “haste makes waste,” and the first step was to find a way to slowly close the distance between them.
Most of the company’s employees had been working from home these past few days, and Nan Shuwan, the Director, was no exception. However, her tasks were usually heavy; there was no real difference between being on or off the clock, as she spent every day maintaining client relations.
But to secure Liu Xue, the boss had temporarily transferred her other responsibilities to someone else. Nan Shuwan’s current mission was essentially to deal with Luo Sheng one-on-one. As long as Luo Sheng agreed, Liu Xue would basically be in the bag.
Nan Shuwan smiled and made a friendly gesture as if to shake hands. “Actually, why are you so resistant? Putting work aside, we can still be friends, right?”
“Friends?”
Luo Sheng rolled the word around on the tip of her tongue, her gaze suddenly becoming intriguing. She ignored Nan Shuwan’s outstretched hand and instead stepped closer.
The woman was slightly shorter than her. Luo Sheng’s gaze was deep as she leaned down slightly to meet her eyes. Seeing a rare flash of fluster cross that glamorous face, she felt an inexplicable surge of satisfaction. She then said in a low tone, “Oh? I wonder how Director Nan… wants to be ‘friends’ with me?”
For some reason, faced with this version of Luo Sheng, Nan Shuwan actually felt a bit nervous. She had grown used to this person’s unflappable, cold demeanor over the past few days; this sudden playfulness was something she couldn’t adapt to.
Especially that “Director Nan”—the tone clearly carried a hint of mockery. She had said that morning was the last time she’d call her that, yet now…
Nan Shuwan quickly regained her composure. She could handle all sorts of difficult clients in the professional world; why should she be bothered by this small scene?
She curled her lips, and the fluster in her eyes was instantly replaced by a rippling tenderness. Her eyes became watery and shimmering, exceedingly alluring.
Without showing any stage fright, she pulled the close-at-hand Luo Sheng toward her, hooking one hand around the other’s fair neck and breathing like an orchid: “Naturally, it’s helping each other, sharing blessings and enduring hardships together. That’s what friends are called. What do you think, Miss Luo…”
Luo Sheng, who never expected her opponent to advance instead of retreating, was genuinely startled. The two were so close right now that she could even smell a faint, elegant fragrance drifting off Nan Shuwan—like dew on mountain flowers after a rain, rich and bright.
She quickly broke free from the embrace, her expression returning to normal. Though her tone was flat, it was laced with a trace of inexplicable annoyance. “The kind you’re talking about is likely beyond ordinary friends. I’m afraid only life-and-death companions can share both fortune and woe.”
Nan Shuwan saw her face turn serious again, her disgruntled expression looking as if she had just been roughly handled. She found it amusing but felt that today was probably enough. With a smile on her lips, she said leisurely, “Life-and-death companions have to start as ordinary friends, don’t they?”
With that, Nan Shuwan lifted her grocery bag, turned around, and entered unit 1502.
However, thinking back to just now, although Luo Sheng’s beautiful, cold face had tried hard to maintain its calm, Nan Shuwan had clearly seen a slight flush creeping up the other’s white earlobes and neck. She found this phenomenon quite incredible.
Could it be that her actions just now made this person… shy?
Coming to this conclusion, Nan Shuwan thought of how Luo Sheng had softened her heart and let her in the last time because of her stomach ache… So, this person was “susceptible to the soft approach but resistant to the hard one”? And she seemed a bit of a “closet” type…
Nan Shuwan bit her lip, a ripple of excitement in her heart. She suddenly felt she had found the way to handle her.
Luo Sheng tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep.
She stared at the ceiling, but her mind was filled with Nan Shuwan—specifically, those two words, “friends,” which kept her heart in a state of turmoil.
Since moving to the big city to work, Luo Sheng had poured almost all her energy into earning money. Every month, she not only had to pay rent and save for a house but also send money back home for her mother’s daily expenses. The pressure was not small.
Due to her personality, Luo Sheng didn’t have many friends at the company. Even those she did have were mostly acquaintances who just said hello or occasionally ate together; once work was over, there was basically no contact.
But she didn’t really care; she even felt that being alone was fine—one person could live a colorful life. If she had to name someone she had more interaction with, it was Lin Fu.
Thinking of that person, Luo Sheng’s face instantly darkened.
In her previous life, her relationship with Lin Fu was decent. Although Lin Fu always found excuses to boss her around, Luo Sheng didn’t take it to heart, assuming she was just enthusiastic and a bit spoiled. After all, she was the only one who checked in on her, and if there was a party or a dinner, Lin Fu was always the first to ask if she was going.
Plus, being neighbors in the same building, she almost never refused any of her requests. That should count as being friends, right?
Luo Sheng thought it counted, because Lin Fu also said they were best friends.
She knew in her heart that many times, this person just wanted to push tasks onto her—no different from using a beast of burden—but in this cold city, this was the only shallow relationship she had. Lin Fu’s occasional greetings had once given her a tiny bit of warmth.
So, deep down, Luo Sheng had been secretly trying to please her, even humbly maintaining this so-called friendship.
And yet, for someone she considered a friend, Luo Sheng had risked the torrential rains multiple times in the early days of the apocalypse to scavenge for supplies for her.
But in the moment between life and death, Lin Fu not only failed to lend a hand but also ruthlessly, without a hint of hesitation, kicked her down the stairs. The massive fear and despair she felt while on the brink of death felt as if it had happened only yesterday whenever she recalled it.
Luo Sheng touched her currently intact heart, and a surge of sadness welled up.
So when she heard Nan Shuwan say that, her first reaction was to find it laughable. Her instinct was to be cynical, because Luo Sheng would never again believe in such ethereal things.
In the apocalypse, selfish human nature is laid bare. People will kill each other for a bite of food. Friendship, love, even family ties—all can become as light as a feather in the face of survival.
And what kind of person was Nan Shuwan? She was a leader used to lecturing subordinates, a high-and-mighty Director. How could she possibly want to be friends with her? It was all for the sake of profit; she’d say any kind of nonsense.
Luo Sheng closed her eyes and tried to force herself to sleep, but her phone started chiming again.
She sat up irritably. Since she couldn’t sleep anyway, she might as well play on her phone. Luo Sheng opened the messages and saw that the residents’ group was chatting again. Nan Shuwan had been added and was currently greeting everyone enthusiastically.
[Happy Community Building 03]
1502 Nan Shuwan: Good evening! I just moved in. We’re all neighbors now; let’s look out for each other!
However, this polite sentence was met with a long silence. Luo Sheng saw that the fastest reply came ten minutes later.
People were too lazy to even type; only a few sent “welcome” emojis, which served to keep the scene from being too awkward.
Then, more replies started coming in.
0803 Qiao Bai: Welcome, welcome, new partner! Feel free to drop by my place when you have time!
0803 Qiao Bai: Oh! Sister, I remember you. Didn’t we see each other in the elevator last time? You’re so beautiful~ and your girlfriend too!! You two are such a perfect match, you’re very pleasing to the eye together!!
After this sentence, Qiao Bai even @1502 Luo Xiaosheng.
Luo Sheng was completely caught off guard. She stared at the message for at least ten seconds before belatedly remembering that when she changed her group nickname, she had set her room number to 1502.
Now that Nan Shuwan had moved in, they both had 1502 as their room number. In this building, only married couples or lovers living together would share the same door number. Naturally, people would misunderstand.
Especially this Qiao Bai, talking about meeting in the elevator… Luo Sheng clicked on her profile picture; it was a selfie. She immediately remembered that this person was one half of that college couple.
Luo Sheng suddenly had a headache. If she had known this would happen, she would never have tried to be clever by using the room number across the hall.
So, Luo Sheng, who had never spoken in the group since joining, prepared to explain herself. She planned to change her nickname back to her actual room number right after explaining.
Unexpectedly, just as she finished typing a line and before she could hit send, Nan Shuwan’s message popped up.
1502 Nan Shuwan: Oh my, thank you, Little Sister Qiao Bai. I’m blushing from the compliments, but you’re right—my girlfriend and I really are a perfect match, heehee~ @1502 Luo Xiaosheng (Wink)
