Chapter 24

On the third day after Wu Qiu returned to the south, Qin Lang was lying bored on the bed playing games with her old group again.

Qin Zhicheng wasn’t home. The auntie came every day at fixed times to cook for her — a very dedicated feeder.

Qin Lang was fiddling with her phone, almost falling asleep, when a multimedia message suddenly arrived from an unknown number.

Qin Lang frowned and subconsciously clicked on it, thinking it might have been sent to the wrong person. After it finished downloading, she froze on the bed.

It was a photo with very clear resolution. Wu Qiu’s face was unmistakable. The background was a luxuriously decorated restaurant. Sitting across from Wu Qiu was a very elegantly dressed woman.

A trace of doubt rose in Qin Lang’s heart. Soon after, another message from the unknown number came in.

“Your teacher is on a blind date.”

It didn’t look like a joke.

Qin Lang didn’t immediately panic or reply to the unknown number. She closed the game, opened WeChat, and tapped on the pinned chat “Teacher.”

「Teacher, what are you doing?」

No reply.

Qin Lang clicked her tongue and went back to the game. It was a MOBA. [stolen content]Her teammates were all familiar friends, including her ex-boyfriend.

She was using an attack-type character. After killing an opponent, a WeChat notification suddenly sounded.

「Something came up.」

Again, this kind of answer.

Wu Qiu had never told Qin Lang anything about herself. Why she came to Beixian to teach, or why she was at the hospital that day.

Wu Qiu had given an explanation about the hospital — she said a relative had some issues and she went to check on them.

After that, Wu Qiu’s dark circles kept getting heavier, almost reaching her chin. She had to apply two layers of concealer to cover the bluish shadows.

Wu Qiu said it was nothing and that Qin Lang didn’t need to know.

A sudden burst of anger rose in Qin Lang’s heart. She sent the screenshot of Wu Qiu eating with the woman.

「Is this what came up?」

Wu Qiu didn’t reply.

After finishing the game, Qin Lang dug out some mature-style clothes she hadn’t worn in a long time from the closet. She stuck a few heat patches on her body and started getting dressed.

Lipstick was the final touch — a swipe of bright red. She drew eyeliner on her already upturned eyes, making them look fierce.

This was Qin Lang before she met Wu Qiu — the school tyrant of Beixian No.1 High who had never lost a fight.

She messaged the auntie saying she was eating out with friends. She had been behaving well lately and her grades had improved a lot, so Qin Zhicheng was very reassured and didn’t ask too many questions.

She bought cigarettes and a lighter from a roadside stall. Holding the orange-red cigarette between two fingers, she lit it. The flame made the tip glow. Qin Lang took a drag and exhaled white smoke. She hadn’t smoked in a long time, but the taste was still familiar.

The meeting place was Qingcheng. She walked familiarly into the private room. To her surprise, her ex-boyfriend was also there. After the breakup, he had been well-behaved and never pestered her.

Back then, Qin Lang had been the one who pursued him. Finding him good-looking and quiet, she pestered him for three months until the shy boy softly said “Okay,” his ears turning bright red.

She was the one who brought him into this world. She taught him step by step how to smoke, drink, and have sex. She had always been the dominant one.

Wu Qiu was the exception.

Thinking of Wu Qiu made Qin Lang furious. She proactively sat next to her ex-boyfriend, raised an eyebrow and smiled: “Oh, you’re here too?”

“I…” Her ex avoided her gaze. “They just invited me.”

Qin Lang looked at Chen Er. Chen Er gave her a thumbs-up gesture. Seeing the knowing looks from everyone around, she roughly understood what this was about.

“Fine.” Qin Lang reached for an unopened can of alcohol on the table and cracked it open with a snap.

After several rounds of drinking, everyone was drunk. Qin Lang’s eyes were still clear. She leaned back on the soft sofa, turned to her ex-boyfriend, and suddenly asked, “Do you still like me?”

“…” Her ex had also drunk quite a bit. His ears were red and his eyes a bit hazy. He spoke in a low voice, “What do you think?”

It was a question, but his tone was flat. Of course — getting dumped for no reason wouldn’t feel good for anyone.

Qin Lang raised her glass, smiled at him, and said nothing more. But she leaned closer into his embrace.

He was, after all, the boy who had been with her for three or four years.

Even though she didn’t like him anymore, she still felt some tenderness toward him.

Qin Lang knew she wasn’t a responsible person. She had only pretended to be innocent and pure in front of Wu Qiu.

But she was never really that kind of person.

It was already late at night.

After drinking, the group helped each other out. Qin Lang leaned against her ex-boyfriend’s chest. He was over 180 cm tall, with a buzz cut — a very handsome boy.

But she was still conscious. She pulled her head back a little, only to be pressed back again.

So close she could almost hear his heartbeat.

It was at that moment that a woman pushed open the door to Qingcheng, breathing heavily. The sound felt very familiar to Qin Lang.

Qin Lang, still in her ex-boyfriend’s arms, locked eyes with Wu Qiu.

Don’t worry, the ex-boyfriend is just a supporting character.

Little Qin, charge!!!
