Chapter 23.2
Wen Jin’s red lips pulled into a beautiful curve. She said to Ruan Tingzhi, “Come here.”
Ruan Tingzhi was wearing the same casual outfit she had worn when they met on the tree-lined path earlier, a knit long dress with a denim jacket over it.
The weather was cold, and under the skirt were light coffee-colored thigh-high tights. The tights were pulled up to below her knees, revealing half a section of elegant, fair knee.
Her black hair was braided into a fluffy Korean-style braid leaning diagonally across her chest. She had an oval face and a pointed chin.
Her doe eyes were dark, bright, and clear. When she looked over, it was almost as if she could see into a person’s heart.
Ke Manrou turned her gaze to the doorway and, after one look, instinctively felt a trace of a bad premonition.
Unlike the listless perfunctoriness Wen Jin showed when facing her, Wen Jin’s gaze softened several degrees when facing Ruan Tingzhi, and her eyes also lit up.
The difference in treatment had been made so clearly that it was almost impolite.
The corners of Ruan Tingzhi’s lips curved slightly. In truth, she had been standing at the doorway for quite a while.
Naturally, she had witnessed the entire process of Wen Jin’s expression changing with obvious differential treatment. The smile in her eyes could not be hidden.
Seeing the woman on the hospital bed cast a beckoning gaze toward her, she froze, then subconsciously glared at Wen Jin.
Wen Jin received that glance from her and tilted her head slightly. She remained steady despite eight winds, and her bright face carried a leisurely frankness.
No one could tell she was acting.
Ruan Tingzhi’s gaze slid from Wen Jin’s brows and eyes all the way down to the bead of her lip. Unable to control herself, she rolled her throat.
“Who is she?” The intimacy between the two as if no one else existed caused hidden anger to rise in Ke Manrou’s heart. Her eyes swept once over the naturally flowing ambiguous atmosphere between them.
Ke Manrou dragged out her tone as she asked.
“Miss Luo is quite forgetful, aren’t you? It’s only been a few days, and you’ve even forgotten me?”
Ruan Tingzhi’s tone carried mockery. The corners of her lips, which had just lifted, slowly straightened. She walked into the infirmary on long, straight, slender legs.
Seemingly casually, she blocked Ke Manrou’s line of sight. With a slap, she struck apart Ke Manrou’s hand that was tightly gripping Wen Jin’s wrist.
At this point, the infirmary fell into dead silence.
Completely unaware of the tense atmosphere between the two, Wen Jin was lost in thought.
The wicked disciple’s appearance meant Luo Xi and Ruan Tingzhi’s romance line would inevitably be disrupted. Even the director could not repair the loophole, so Wen Jin naturally could not possibly intervene.
What gave her a headache now was how to make the wicked disciple unable to recognize her. Based on the wicked disciple’s fixed impression of Wen Jin, she should be a grinding expert, uninterested in men or women, rigorous, powerful, cool, and noble.
As the cool persona in her mind grew more and more three-dimensional, Wen Jin suddenly had an immature idea.
In addition, Ruan Tingzhi was right beside her. A thread of lavender pheromones wrapped in icy silk spilled out like a flowering branch, winding around Wen Jin’s tense mental strength.
This gave Wen Jin room to think. She leaned her body slightly forward, coughed softly, lifted her head, and without warning, met Ruan Tingzhi’s eyes. Then she blinked and smiled gently and apologetically. “Baby, don’t be angry. I don’t have the slightest interest in her.”
Ruan Tingzhi was far too familiar with Wen Jin’s act.
The woman’s peach-blossom eyes curved. Clearly, just now she had still been worldly and lazy, but in the blink of an eye, deep affection floated in her eyes.
Ruan Tingzhi saw very clearly. This person was obviously using her to get rid of a pursuer.
However, even though she had been treated as a tool, Ruan Tingzhi did not expose her in front of an outsider.
It did not matter how angry she got among their own people, but in front of outsiders, Wen Jin needed face.
Perhaps because she had received different treatment today, Ruan Tingzhi’s mood was not especially bad, and there was a hidden smile in her eyes.
After meeting Wen Jin’s gaze for several seconds, she glanced at the scummy A.
Ruan Tingzhi naturally walked to Wen Jin’s side, cooperatively leaned down, and threw herself into Wen Jin’s arms. Her fingers coiled around Wen Jin’s chest, and she pinched playfully.
Wen Jin: “…”
Although she felt that pinch just now was somewhat suspicious of taking advantage, Wen Jin truly needed this at the moment.
The bigger the scale, the better.
She secretly sent Ruan Tingzhi a grateful look, then pressed a hand to the girl’s waist and pulled her into her arms.
Wen Jin held her face-to-face. Caught off guard, their jade-white softness collided with each other.
Through the fabric, Ruan Tingzhi’s previously even breathing abruptly became rapid.
Wen Jin was completely unaware of this. She had good acting skills and quick reactions. Worried that Ruan Tingzhi might not like the hug and expose them, her long fingers continuously stroked back and forth along Ruan Tingzhi’s satin-smooth spine.
While gently patting her, she said with tender affection, “Baby, it’s all Sister’s fault. Next time I meet Luo Xi, I’ll walk around her, all right? Don’t be angry.”
Ruan Tingzhi’s cheeks flushed from being stroked, and she lowered the ends of her eyes softly, glaring at Wen Jin without the slightest force.
Wen Jin knew she was in the wrong and gently rested the girl’s chin against the hollow of her shoulder.
After doing all this, she finally put on an infatuated look, panting as she looked at Ke Manrou beside the bed.
Her entire performance could be called smooth as flowing water.
Wen Jin lifted her eyes and met Ke Manrou’s scrutinizing gaze.
As a romance-brained kept woman who became strong for love—
Her red lips released a decadent, gorgeous tone. “Mm… my girlfriend and I have some private things to say. Don’t you have class this morning?”
Wen Jin did not say the word “please,” but every part of her speech meant she was driving Ke Manrou away.
She left a line in her words, stammering vaguely and insinuating indirectly.
How could this be the master Ke Manrou knew? If her master found someone unpleasant, one look would push them back, her aura fully opened, making them tremble as they left.
No matter what, she would never be as cowardly as the woman before her, not even daring to say “please leave,” so hesitant and timid.
Ke Manrou withdrew her gaze in disappointment.
She had met Wen Jin when she was sixteen. Wen Jin had not been very old either, only twenty. She rarely smiled, and handled matters seriously and cautiously, covering every angle.
She shuttled through major planes like a spinning top that never stopped turning.
There was never any unnecessary emotion in Master’s eyes. She was cool, noble, powerful, and so strong she was beyond reach.
Throughout Ke Manrou’s youth, all her gaze had been on her master. She was both proud and inferior, because her master was Wen Jin, a great god of the Quick Transmigration Bureau with godhood.
She had loved her for many planes, and every plane meant decades of secret love.
Yet across all these years, Ke Manrou had never found anything in Wen Jin’s eyes beyond missions.
So she finally could not endure it anymore. In the last xianxia plane, Ke Manrou made her move. She wanted to destroy Wen Jin’s career and make her sink together with her in that xianxia plane.
The ending was tragic. A disciple would always be a disciple. Even if she moved unexpectedly, Wen Jin had survival trump cards beyond Ke Manrou’s imagination.
Ke Manrou twisted the end of her hair and met the gaze of the woman before her, whose appearance resembled Master’s. The same eyes, yet not the master Ke Manrou knew.
That person had always carried herself high above, unbending rather than breaking.
Her eyes had never held this kind of decadent, weary, vulgar, worldly gaze.
At this point, Ke Manrou lifted her hand and rubbed her aching head. Without saying anything, she turned and walked outside.
Ruan Tingzhi suppressed the upward curve of her lips, lifted her head from the hollow of Wen Jin’s shoulder, and when Ke Manrou reached the doorway, called out to her.
“Luo Xi.”
Ke Manrou was in a bad mood now. She summoned Luo Xi out while she herself went into the body to rest.
So Luo Xi, who had just come out, turned back in a foul mood. “What?”
Ruan Tingzhi had originally disdained acting against Luo Xi. Luo Xi was merely an irritable and impulsive Luo family heir.
She was not worth Ruan Tingzhi exposing her own identity over.
Unfortunately, Luo Xi had provoked the person Ruan Tingzhi had her eye on.
In Ruan Tingzhi’s two lifetimes, this was the first time she had felt sexual desire toward someone.
Even though she had already prepared to let go, she still did not quite allow others to force this person.
Even she herself could not bear to force her.
Yet Luo Xi dared pinch this person’s wrist.
Ruan Tingzhi brushed aside the loose hair falling across her cheek. There was not a trace of smile in her eyes. “Those few coins Wen Jin owes you. Check whether it’s enough. If it isn’t, I can step in and make up the rest for you.”
Ruan Tingzhi’s gaze was extremely obvious. Wasn’t it just a few coins? Was it worth biting people like a mad dog?
Luo Xi had vaguely heard some warnings from her father that Ruan Tingzhi could not be provoked, but they had not been detailed.
Ruan Tingzhi had hidden her background so tightly that not a drop leaked.
In addition, she received scholarships every year, was an outstanding academic achiever, and ranked first on the points leaderboard. Many people said Ruan Tingzhi worked herself to death because she lacked money.
However, Ruan Tingzhi herself had never clarified it. After the rumor spread for so long, Luo Xi could no longer remember her father’s warning.
But now, for Wen Jin… Ruan Tingzhi’s expression was extremely clear: she was not short on money.
Luo Xi clenched her fist, her face darkening. “What do you mean? You want to challenge me?”
Wen Jin could not hold back and laughed.
Ruan Tingzhi turned back and glared at this calamity of a woman.
Her arms hung around Wen Jin’s slender swan neck, and she tilted her head as she looked at Luo Xi. “Last time, your father went to the Time-Space Legion’s Commander Li for tea and to look for something. I heard it was the black box from after the spacecraft crash.”
Luo Xi’s father going to Commander Li’s home for tea had been a secret operation. It could not possibly be known by others.
Ruan Tingzhi smiled as she stared at the clearly flustered Luo Xi, her tone unfriendly. “The Luo family is a major family. If one wants to look for unclean things, one can always find a handle. Don’t you think so, Luo Xi?”
Luo Xi’s expression froze on her face. Unable to stay calm, she asked, “How do you know…”
Ruan Tingzhi neither confirmed nor denied it. She picked up the IV tube in front of Wen Jin with her finger, hooked it closer, and adjusted the drip speed.
Only then did Wen Jin lift her head and discover that the glucose-saline bag hanging above had already reached the bottom.
Ruan Tingzhi asked casually, “Is there any more saline today?”
Wen Jin’s attention had originally been on Luo Xi, who had lost her composure after only a few sentences, and suspicions were rising in her heart.
While she was lost in thought, she did not immediately answer.
Her hair was tugged by Ruan Tingzhi in dissatisfaction.
Wen Jin lowered her eyes. A trace of smile spread through them, and her tone was unexpectedly gentle. “No more.”
Ruan Tingzhi gave a proud scoff and looked away. Seeing that Luo Xi still had not left, she chased her away. “Since there’s nothing else to say, let’s leave it here. In the future, keep it in mind. Don’t let me see you troubling her again.”
