The Mad Beauty Professor Forced Me to Mark Her - Chapter 2
The bell rang again.
The male Alpha left the corridor in a huff and returned to the classroom under a crowd of curious, spectacle-hungry gazes. Qi Si followed him in. She found the class pointless and planned to grab her bag and leave.
The camouflage-pants girl’s three roommates misunderstood her intention. Smiling brightly, they stood up and enthusiastically made room for Qi Si to return to her seat.
The camouflage-pants girl praised her. “Yuan Lü, your skills aren’t bad!”
Qi Si put her books into her bag. On the lectern, Su Moxiao said, “All right, now let’s continue from the last part. Please sit down, everyone. Don’t block the view of the students behind you.”
The girls pulled Qi Si down with them. She did not want to dampen everyone’s mood, so she sat back down in her previous seat with a cold expression and flipped through the textbook.
For some reason, Su Moxiao suddenly began to grow nervous this time. Her speaking speed unconsciously quickened, and her eyes stayed fixed only on the PowerPoint on her computer. She read the script like she was reciting from a book, and whenever she encountered a complicated question, she simply skipped it. The slides passed very quickly. Only when she reached the final page did she remember to check the time. She gave an embarrassed smile. “Ah, well… there are still fifteen minutes before class ends. Did I go too fast?”
A male Alpha in the front row said ingratiatingly, “It’s fine, Senior. We can talk about something else for the remaining time.”
Su Moxiao closed the PowerPoint and smiled. “Talk about what? Do you have any good suggestions?”
The pink-haired girl beside Qi Si said, “Senior, talk about yourself.”
“What is there to talk about when it comes to me?” Su Moxiao operated her computer absentmindedly. The schedule that filled her desktop wallpaper was so striking it hurt the eyes. She had probably forgotten that her computer was still connected to the projector, and without realizing it, she once again revealed the image of an elite woman. In an ordinary tone, she said, “I’m the same as all of you. I went through countless hardships to get into medical school.”
“Whoa.”
The dense schedule attracted everyone’s attention. Someone reacted quickly and took a photo with their phone. Su Moxiao calmly closed the laptop and said with a smile, “I’ll upload today’s courseware to the public email later. If there’s anything you don’t understand, we can discuss it after class.”
She was clearly only one year older than them, and all of them were university students who had only just stepped into the world, yet Su Moxiao behaved completely like a mature, charming adult—calm in the face of sudden changes, with a proper and graceful smile.
The people below were both envious and jealous. Someone gathered their courage and asked, “Senior, do you have a boyfriend?”
Su Moxiao lowered her head and smiled. Then she asked back, neither humble nor arrogant, “Who said it could only be a boyfriend?”
At that, the female Alphas’ morale soared. The camouflage-pants girl hardened her heart, raised her hand, and said, “Senior, what do you think of me?”
This time, Su Moxiao finally looked at the camouflage-pants girl, as if confirming some piece of information. Then she lowered her lashes, her eyes curving as she smiled with her head bowed. “Actually, I prefer someone older.”
A group of people sighed as if they had just fallen out of love. Su Moxiao’s tone was light and casual. “Compared to dating, I actually care more about my studies. Dating really is… mentally exhausting.”
Qi Si abruptly lifted her head to look at her, but Su Moxiao’s gaze was elsewhere. Her expression carried a sadness that made people pity her. She moistened her throat and said into the microphone, “Speaking from my own experience, it’s better not to date while you’re still a student. Dating brings no benefits at all. It only hurts people. A person should learn to love themselves before they can learn how to love others. So right now, most of my energy is focused on my studies. As for relationships, I’ll just let fate decide.”
As expected, a goddess’s awareness was different from ordinary people’s. Everyone listened to the information their senior had revealed and concluded that her ex must have been a tactless scumbag.
Su Moxiao did not explain. In the end, she said in a tone of release, “Besides, Omegas don’t need to become someone who depends on others. Take my supervisor, Professor Lin, for example. She’s already twenty-seven or twenty-eight this year and has never dated anyone, but doesn’t she still live perfectly well? If I can live like her, I’ll already be completely satisfied.”
Applause burst through the classroom. Su Moxiao’s words moved many people, especially those Omegas and Betas who pursued independence. Unlike Alphas, who were born with advantages, they needed to put in tremendous effort to break away from their families and free themselves from dependence on Alphas. Getting into University A’s medical school was already their first proof of their own abilities.
Qi Si sat in the front row like a clown and listened to the whole thing. Su Moxiao’s lecture was not very good, but when it came to grand principles, she had one set after another. She was so hypocritical it was disgusting. Or perhaps this way of conducting herself was what true intelligence looked like. Unlike a blockhead like Qi Si, who only knew how to grind through exam questions, Su Moxiao was very good at packaging herself. Someone like her could thrive anywhere.
The funny thing was, despite knowing her for so long, Qi Si seemed to have never truly understood her.
The moment the dismissal bell rang, Su Moxiao was already surrounded by people of every gender. Even getting close to her became difficult for Qi Si.
If Qi Si had nothing to do all day, she might have found a chance to talk with Su Moxiao. But she was going to be unbearably busy next. She had to go work and earn money. She had a broken family that needed her support.
The camouflage-pants girl called “Yuan Lü” after her twice. Qi Si looked back and waved, then lowered her head and quickly left the classroom. Outside campus, she unlocked a shared bicycle and arrived punctually at 3:30 p.m. at a bar in the city called POP. After greeting the owner, she tied her hair into a ponytail, changed into her bartender uniform, wiped glass cups, organized the counter, and waited for customers who would need her service.
Three months ago, Qi Si’s father had been in a car accident and was left completely paralyzed in bed. Since he was primarily responsible for the accident, the insurance company only covered part of the medical expenses. The rest of the enormous cost had to be paid by the Qi family themselves. The Qi family had emptied out all their savings, taken on debt, and even mortgaged their house. Now the whole family was squeezed into a narrow rental home, while her stepmother struggled to survive with two children. She had not abandoned Qi Si’s father, but what could a middle-aged female Omega rely on to survive in society?
Qi Si’s university life had suffered a devastating blow before it even truly began. She had borrowed money from everywhere to scrape together her tuition, and now she still had to earn living expenses, tuition for her two younger sisters, her father’s medical fees, the family’s rent, and so on.
MII arrived at the bar at five in the afternoon. As usual, she had Qi Si make her a honey grapefruit soda. Then she took out a stack of cash in an envelope, tossed it on the counter, and said, “This is your payment for the last drug trial. I only took thirty percent. Count it.”
Qi Si wore gloves as she cut the grapefruit. She glanced at the stack of cash showing from the mouth of the envelope, then continued working with her hands. In a calm tone, she said, “No need to count. I trust you.”
MII’s lips curved into a smile. Her eyes, fitted with purple colored contacts, gleamed with sly light. Her sunglasses were pushed above her forehead, her curly hair fell loose, and she always wore a vanilla cream perfume that smelled so cloyingly sweet it was almost sickening. That was also why Qi Si could accurately recognize her every time. MII stared at Qi Si’s hand shaking the ice and said with a smile, “So you really went back to school this time?”
“Mm.” Qi Si garnished the sparkling drink with a tender mint leaf and pushed it flat across the counter to MII. Her tone was composed. “No matter what, I’ll finish my studies first.”
With a slurp, MII released the straw she had been biting and looked Qi Si over with interest. “Are you really a student at University A?”
That was a renowned top-tier institution, one that cultivated society’s elite talents. How could one of its students end up earning money by participating in drug trials?
Qi Si stuffed the envelope of money into her pants pocket and said casually, “Do you want to see my student ID?”
MII grinned, leaned closer, and said, “I know there’s a laboratory project at University A that’s recruiting people. The pay is very generous. Are you interested?”
Qi Si looked at MII, her dark eyes bright. “How much?”
“Sixteen thousand. Three days.” MII’s tattooed hand tapped the bar counter. “More than what you earn here in three months.”
“That is quite a lot.” Qi Si paused. “But I just tested budesonide some time ago. Can I still test another drug now?”
Generally, when legitimate pharmaceutical companies recruited drug trial participants, they conducted strict screenings. In principle, participants were required to have at least three months between their last trial and the next one.
But some people who were desperate for money probably would not follow the rules.
“As long as they don’t know, it’s fine.” MII smiled lightly. “If you don’t say anything, how would they know you just tested a drug recently?”
Qi Si thought about it and said, “True.”
It was just that frequent drug trials were bad for organs like the liver and could bring a series of unpredictable side effects. Some time ago, Qi Si had participated in a clinical trial for some unknown pharmaceutical company. The drug being tested, budesonide, was a glucocorticoid and relatively safe. After the commission was deducted, her payment was only a little over three thousand yuan.
So-called risk and reward went hand in hand. A drug that, according to MII, could earn her sixteen thousand in three days probably had no guaranteed safety at all.
Even if she was short on money, Qi Si should not gamble with her own body.
“So? Do you want to sign up?” MII took out a cigarette and turned sideways to look at Qi Si, her eyes carrying an unreadable smile.
“I’ll think about it. It’s a project from my own school. I’m afraid I’ll run into someone I know.” Qi Si’s voice was flat. She lowered her head and wiped the counter until it shone like new, then began preparing the next drink.
“Think it over. I’ll contact you again next time.”
MII lit her cigarette. Before leaving, she left a brand-new hundred-yuan bill on the bar counter.
When Qi Si saw it, she said, “Wait, I’ll give you your change.”
“No need.” MII looked back and smiled at her. “Consider it a tip. Buy something nice for your little sisters when you go home.”
Qi Si said nothing. She rolled up the bill and stuffed it into her pocket, then paid for the soda herself.
“In this kind of situation, you’re supposed to say thank you,” a tall Beta customer said nosily while holding a beer. “You received a tip, so why do you look unhappy?”
After all, that tip had come from the commission MII took out of Qi Si’s drug-trial payment. Using Qi Si’s own money to do Qi Si a favor—Qi Si was not stupid. How could she possibly be happy?
Qi Si lowered her head and poured the drink, trying her best to appear attentive in her service. She said to the Beta, “If you were a sheep on a farm, and the farmer shaved off your wool, then gave you a wool hat, would you be grateful to him?”
The Beta froze for a moment, then burst into hearty laughter.
Seeing that the beer in his glass was almost finished, Qi Si asked at the right time, “Would you like another bottle?”
“Sure.” The Beta put down his glass and agreed readily.
Qi Si worked as a bartender. She did not need to promote drinks to customers, nor would she receive extra commission for doing so, but her outstanding appearance was a form of promotion in itself. Even if she did nothing but stand behind the bar, she was pleasing to the eye. People like that were often arrogant and unruly, but Qi Si was sincere, modest, and polite. She had never made a mistake at work, so the colleagues and owner in the shop trusted her very much.
Business at the bar was especially lively that night. Qi Si was busy until two in the morning before she finally finished tidying up the bar counter. As she was about to leave, a female customer came over. Qi Si politely said, “I’m sorry, we’re already closed. At most, I can only sell you whole bottles of beer or non-alcoholic drinks now.”
The woman stared at Qi Si and could not help laughing. Leisurely, she exhaled the smell of smoke and alcohol. Her flaming red lips parted, and she said, “Xiao Qi, can you drive?”
“…”
Qi Si blinked. “Boss, I can.”
“A friend of mine drank a little. It’s late at night, and I don’t feel comfortable calling a designated driver. Help me drive her home.” As Zhou Danqing spoke, she casually pulled two bills out of her LV wallet.
Qi Si took them readily. “Sure. Thank you, Boss. Boss is generous.”
“You helped sell quite a lot of alcohol tonight. This is what you deserve.” Zhou Danqing looked very happy as she handed over the keys to a Maserati. “Drive my car. My friend is in the private room.”
Following the direction Zhou Danqing pointed in, Qi Si pushed open a door. The scent of Omega pheromones that rushed toward her made her whole body tremble. Every fine pore on her body could not help opening up, as if she had fallen into a sweet Eden. The fragrance of rose fruit wine surged over her.
An elegant Omega woman.
That was Qi Si’s first impression of her.
In the corner, Lin Ye sat quietly on the sofa, her head lowered as she endured the misery of being drunk. The shifting, colorful lights above her made her even dizzier.
She turned her head to look at the girl by the door and spoke coldly.
“Get out.”
