The Seventh Princess Insists on Making Me Live Off Her - Chapter 17
The assassin’s qinggong was so impressive that the guards remained stunned for quite some time. Only then did the captain of the guards tremblingly cup her hands toward Gao Jingxi and ask for instructions.
“Why are you still standing there? You must bring the Princess Consort back to me!”
Gao Jingxi hurried two steps forward, but the assassin and Lian Liejin had already vanished from sight.
She bit down hard on her lower lip. In the end, she suppressed the turbulent emotions surging within her heart and forced herself to think calmly.
They reached the outskirts of Changyong in the blink of an eye. Having traveled too quickly, the assassin leaned against a large tree and began retching.
Only after quite some time did the color return to her face. Supporting herself with her longsword, she looked Lian Liejin up and down.
“Are you really the Princess Consort?”
Lian Liejin gave her a look that said she was asking the obvious.
“If I’m not, are you?”
“My heavens! Then why did you pretend to be my hostage and escape with me? Are wealth and luxury not good enough for you? Do delicacies from land and sea no longer taste delicious?”
The assassin fluttered her large eyes and smiled teasingly.
“Could it be that you… have taken a liking to me? I saw stellar power gathering in your princess’s palm. She was so afraid of hurting you that she didn’t dare do anything to me.”
“Or perhaps your devastatingly beautiful princess wife simply looks down on a pretty face like you. In a fit of anger, you decided to cry, make a scene, and run away from home. Tsk, tsk. It must be one of the two.”
Lian Liejin’s long peach-blossom eyes snapped toward her like twin beams of cold light.
“Are all the assassins from Sanhua Tower this talkative? I know who you are. You must be Luo Qian’er, the daughter of your tower master. Why did you try to assassinate the Seventh Princess?”
“Wow! How did you know?”
Luo Qian’er looked utterly astonished. A sharp pain suddenly shot through her wrist.
“Ouch! What exactly did you do to me? You only poked me twice, but now my right hand hurts and itches!”
“You will not die for the time being. Tell me why you tried to assassinate the princess, then help me accomplish one thing. After that, I will undo it.”
Luo Qian’er shook her hand and said provocatively,
“This young lady hates being threatened more than anything. Perhaps if you begged me… Besides, there is not even the slightest flow of stellar power in your body, yet your qinggong has reached an extraordinary level. You must be using some kind of demonic technique.”
At the end, she added with great disdain,
“You should know that in a one-on-one fight, I am not afraid of you.”
Lian Liejin folded her arms and gazed at the river scenery.
The cold wind howled.
Luo Qian’er secretly circulated the stellar power within her body, attempting to break through the obstruction in her arm, but unexpectedly failed.
Alarm arose in her heart.
She had no idea what sort of background this Princess Consort possessed. There was not a trace of stellar power anywhere in her body, yet she had managed to subdue an Astrologer like Luo Qian’er.
“You had better tell me why you tried to assassinate the princess. Otherwise, I can cripple your hand right now.”
A cold and severe expression appeared on Lian Liejin’s face. Her voice remained as icy as ever, but it now carried a rare ruthlessness.
“I imagine losing one hand would not be particularly serious.”
Luo Qian’er chuckled twice.
“In our profession, the highest bidder always wins. I assume you understand that.”
Two gold ingots flew toward her.
Luo Qian’er caught them, weighed them in her hand, and said,
“I don’t know the details. The client merely instructed me to kill the person sitting in the seat of honor at Youlan Waterside Pavilion today—the Seventh Princess, Gao Jingxi. I truly know nothing else.”
Most of the trees here had broad leaves that blocked out the sky. The Suiyu River flowed nearby, with thin ice already covering its surface. Pale mist drifted above the water, making the surroundings resemble an immortal realm.
Under the flickering light and shadows, Lian Liejin’s cold face was undeniably beautiful, but it felt as chilly as their surroundings. She resembled ice that had remained frozen for a thousand years, making her impossible to approach.
Luo Qian’er pursed her lips and impatiently asked,
“You ice-cold pretty face, what else do you want me to do?”
“Head north immediately and leave traces of your stellar power along the way. Remember, do not make them too obvious. Mix truth with falsehood.”
Seeing how eager the young Princess Consort was to leave, Luo Qian’er could not help viewing Lian Liejin and Gao Jingxi through a rather suspicious lens.
As expected of the imperial family. The relationships within noble circles were truly chaotic. Perhaps every person among them had an entire grassland growing over their head.
How pitiful for the princess. She had been desperately trying to rescue this pretty face, never realizing that the pretty face had long wanted to escape.
Seeing Luo Qian’er’s peculiar expression, Lian Liejin knew she had once again imagined something ridiculous.
However, as long as she helped draw away the rescuers, Luo Qian’er could think whatever she liked.
“Why make it so troublesome?”
Luo Qian’er threw Lian Liejin a flirtatious glance and giggled.
“Why not consider becoming mine instead? I will protect you. You can eat and drink whatever you like and dress yourself in gold and silver.”
“No, thank you. I am not interested in you.”
Looking at Lian Liejin’s impervious, indifferent expression, Luo Qian’er cursed inwardly.
Who exactly was looking down on whom?
This woman even had the nerve to reject her!
Luo Qian’er said irritably,
“Then who are you interested in? Even that breathtaking princess waiting at home cannot hold your heart. Hmph. In my opinion, since neither of you likes the other, you might as well smash the pot, break the bowls, and go your separate ways.”
After hearing Luo Qian’er’s words, Lian Liejin found the matter rather strange.
Luo Qian’er clearly did not even know Gao Jingxi, so how could she describe their relationship as though she had witnessed everything herself?
Lian Liejin did not wish to say anything more.
Her relationship with Gao Jingxi was not something that could be explained clearly in only a few words.
Seeing Lian Liejin fall silent again, Luo Qian’er blocked her path.
“But I want to know where you are going. Also, if we travel in different directions, how will you treat my arm?”
She coquettishly grabbed the hem of Lian Liejin’s clothes.
“Why don’t you undo it now? I promise I won’t follow you afterward.”
A gust of wind shook loose the thin snow on the leaves. It fell softly across Lian Liejin’s shoulders, but she did not even raise a hand to brush it away.
She simply turned and walked off.
Luo Qian’er became furious.
Unable to wield her sword with her weakened right hand, she crouched down, picked up a stone, and threw it forcefully at the back of Lian Liejin’s head. She then hurled another seven or eight stones in succession.
Lian Liejin bent at the waist and avoided them all. The stones flew over her and landed in the grass ahead.
“It appears you no longer want that hand.”
Luo Qian’er had intended to knock Lian Liejin unconscious. Who would have thought that this woman seemed to have eyes on the back of her head?
She pursed her lips aggrievedly, her voice carrying the hint of tears.
“But where am I supposed to find you? My hand really hurts.”
