The Seventh Princess Insists on Making Me Live Off Her - Chapter 25
Throughout the journey, the disciple barely dared look directly at the woman before her. Although the woman wore a veil, her beauty was already evident from her phoenix eyes alone.
Therefore, as soon as she finished speaking, completed her task, and brought the visitor to the right place, the disciple fled without delay.
Gao Jingxi carefully examined the small courtyard. She had visited it many times while recuperating at the Stellar Medicine Sect.
When she left, the osmanthus flowers in the courtyard had been in full bloom, filling the entire yard with fragrance. The scents of medicinal herbs and osmanthus had mingled together, sweet and refreshing without becoming cloying.
Now the flowers had bloomed and withered, and she had finally returned.
Candlelight was still shining inside the room. Gao Jingxi hesitated outside the door. She had never imagined she could be so useless. Now that the moment had arrived, she did not dare face the truth.
If Guan Xie was not Lian Liejin, what should she, Gao Jingxi, do? Should she graciously thank Guan Xie, or disregard everyone’s wishes and take Guan Xie away with her?
Yet she also seemed incapable of letting go of Lian Liejin. It was truly a strange thing. At least in Gao Jingxi’s eyes, she could not care for two people at once.
During the journey, she had thought about it countless times and eventually understood one thing: there were matters more important than romantic affection.
Since ancient times, perfection in all things had been impossible.
Gao Jingxi took a deep breath and gently knocked on the door with her already frozen left hand. Every knock seemed to strike directly against her heart.
The person inside stood and slowly walked toward the entrance.
The moon was exceptionally large and round that night, illuminating every flower, plant, and tree in the courtyard.
With a creak, the door opened.
The aroma of food inside the room immediately rushed through the opening. Gao Jingxi closed her eyes briefly before opening them again and looking at the person before her.
It was a woman dressed in green. She had a gentle, pleasing face and was staring at Gao Jingxi in astonishment, her lips slightly parted and unable to produce a word.
This person was not Lian Liejin.
Unwilling to give up, Gao Jingxi looked deeper into the room, but no one else was inside. For a moment, a violent wave of disappointment flooded her heart.
“Young lady, you…”
The woman in green was Lian Liejin’s junior sister. She had assumed Guan Xie had returned and was preparing to scold her for leaving the room in such a mess. Unexpectedly, when she opened the door, she found a dignified and noble woman looking at her with a face full of disappointment.
“Young lady, what brings you here?”
Hearing the woman’s question, Gao Jingxi unwillingly asked, “Are you… Guan Xie?”
Before the woman in green could answer, points of fire suddenly appeared throughout the previously silent mountain forest. An enormous fluctuation of stellar power then surged from the distance. Dark-golden radiance resembling flowers scattered across the courtyard where Gao Jingxi stood.
“Such powerful stellar power! The person using it may already be approaching the rank of Astromancer!”
Lian Liejin emerged from a side room of the blue-tiled courtyard with a roasted chicken leg held between her teeth and could not help exclaiming in admiration.
Only five known Astromancers currently existed. All of them had withdrawn into the void and made the ethereal unknown their companion, appearing and disappearing without a trace. If even one of those five returned to the jianghu, they would possess the power to overturn the world with a mere turn of the hand.
Yet someone who already had one foot within the rank of Astromancer had unexpectedly appeared at the small Stellar Medicine Sect.
Unease arose within Lian Liejin. She feared that the secret of the shadow power inside her might be discovered. Instinctively, she pulled the black jade from her sleeve and gripped it tightly.
The dark-golden brilliance filling the sky arrived quickly and disappeared just as fast. In the darkness, Lian Liejin heard a free-spirited voice laughing.
“Xi’er, let Aunt meet the person you cannot stop thinking about and refuse to forget.”
“Aunt! What nonsense are you saying? I clearly told you to wait at the foot of the mountain. I only wanted to come and meet her quietly. You made such an enormous entrance that now everyone knows.”
“Hahaha!”
The uninhibited voice laughed three times.
“Why hide it? In my opinion, if you are dissatisfied with the one waiting at home, simply divorce her and marry someone else. Your aunt will support you.”
“Aunt, you are talking nonsense again! Are we mountain bandits?”
Lian Liejin barely had time to speak and stop the woman’s grand entrance because she recognized the voice of the person being called “Xi’er.”
It belonged to her wife—the Seventh Princess, Gao Jingxi.
And it was Gao Jingxi speaking with the delicate petulance of a young woman.
At that moment, the other disciples of the Stellar Medicine Sect rushed over with swords and sabers while shouting about capturing the intruders. Lian Liejin hurried to the center of the courtyard and told them to return.
“Everything is fine. These two mean no harm. You may go back.”
“Guan Xie, you finally came!”
The woman in green hurried over to Lian Liejin and whispered,
“There is an unbelievably beautiful young lady looking for you. She frightened me half to death.”
“I know.”
Even Lian Liejin’s voice trembled slightly, and she swallowed nervously.
She had run away from home and been caught at the scene by her wife. What should she do? Urgent advice needed.
Fortunately, the mask concealed her expression. Otherwise, her face would have been deathly pale, further confirming everyone’s description of her as a pretty-faced weakling.
“Ahem. The wind outside is strong. Please follow me.”
Lian Liejin walked over to Gao Jingxi, pointed toward the open doorway, and entered first. She relit the other candles with a fire striker, and beneath the bright candlelight, the three women sat around the table.
Three plates of leafy green vegetables, a bowl of plain sliced chicken, and a jar of strongly medicinal soup rested on the table—the medicinal meal Junior Sister Zhao had specially delivered.
The woman Gao Jingxi had called Aunt was named Gao Feichen. She was the current Emperor’s younger full sister. After drinking a cup of strong tea, she raised her two slightly thick sword-like brows, looking exceptionally heroic.
She asked with some confusion,
“Xi’er, wasn’t that young lady just now Guan Xie?”
Lian Liejin’s voice sounded somewhat unsteady, and her pitch rose noticeably.
“Ahem. Actually… I am Guan Xie.”
