The Sickly Girl Becomes a Scum Alpha - Chapter 33
As they spoke, Chu Ci, Jian Sui, and Zhao Rong finally finalized the plan to visit Li Sinan with the design drafts the following day.
Given Li Sinan’s prestige over so many years in the industry, it was impossible to get onto his fashion exhibition through personal connections alone. Furthermore, Jian Sui hoped these designs would have a chance to be appraised by him; naturally, as the lead designer, Zhao Rong had to go along as well.
Just as they had finished their discussion and Cheng Feng was about to send the formal request for a visit to Li Sinan, Zhao Rong returned with the clothes.
What she held now was the first-anniversary design for Bamboo Dream—the primary victim of this plagiarism incident.
The size wasn’t quite right for Chu Ci, so the task was mainly to see exactly how many modifications were needed, record them, and then the mission would basically be complete.
The sky had turned completely dark, and the group was finally able to clock out.
Chu Ci had arrived in Cao Xi’s car, but for the return trip, she happened to take Jian Sui’s car.
Sitting in Jian Sui’s passenger seat, the world outside was a stream of heavy traffic. Very few exhausted people still had the energy to appreciate the dazzling, kaleidoscopic neon city night. After a long day of toil, everyone just wanted to go home and flop down like a salted fish.
Chu Ci was no exception.
Today’s workload had been a record for her. Fatigue and exhaustion hit her simultaneously along with a wave of hunger, leaving her without even the strength to lift her hand. Her eyelids slowly fluttered shut.
Through the corner of her eye and the rearview mirror, Jian Sui watched Chu Ci’s exhausted face, and she felt a pang of discomfort in her heart.
When they arrived back at the Chu residence, Chu Ci had not yet awakened. Jian Sui slowly brought the car to a halt. Although she could hardly bear to disturb her, she couldn’t let Chu Ci sleep in the car like this, so she gently patted her arm.
When Chu Ci woke up, she was momentarily disoriented, not knowing what year it was. It took a while for her to remember she was in Jian Sui’s car and had just arrived home.
“I accidentally fell asleep. Let’s head inside.”
Chu Ci spoke to Jian Sui and went to open the car door.
Jian Sui got out of the car nimbly. After Chu Ci pushed the door open and set her foot down, she felt a sudden wave of dizziness before she could even stand up. Her vision went black. She lowered her head and leaned against her arm on the car door, resting for a moment. She forced herself to stand up and exit the car before Jian Sui noticed anything was wrong.
It was likely just a bit of disorientation from waking up. Chu Ci didn’t take it to heart and smiled at the approaching Jian Sui. “Let’s go in.”
Jian Sui looked at Chu Ci with concern. “Are you alright?”
“I just haven’t fully woken up yet.”
Rubbing her temples, Chu Ci tried her best to control her unsteady steps as she entered with Jian Sui.
Unexpectedly, by the time they entered, Chu Xiong had seemingly only been back for a short while. He had just changed into home clothes and was coming downstairs. Zhao Zhu was in the dining room arranging the food—a massive table full of dishes.
“Why back so late?”
Chu Xiong glanced at the two returning together and asked casually.
“Had some things to take care of.”
Chu Ci and Jian Sui walked up the side staircase, responding casually as well.
“Mm. Change your clothes and come down for dinner.”
“Okay.”
Chu Ci gave an affirmative response. She looked back at Zhao Zhu in the dining room and happened to catch a resentful, dissatisfied look in the other woman’s eyes. She looked back directly. “What, don’t want me to come down to eat?”
Such blunt words caught Zhao Zhu off guard instantly. She hurriedly looked toward Chu Xiong to explain, “No, I spent the whole afternoon arranging so many dishes just so our family could have a nice dinner together. Why would I not want Little Ci to eat?”
Chu Ci’s gaze shifted to the chef behind Zhao Zhu, who was holding a candelabra and looked unsure whether to stay or go. She understood Zhao Zhu’s intent and calmly retracted her gaze. It seemed she and Jian Sui had returned at an inopportune moment.
However, that didn’t hinder anything.
Chu Ci and Jian Sui also changed into home clothes and went downstairs. Chu Xiong and Zhao Zhu were already seated. Chu You was nowhere to be seen.
Eating together at one table, no one spoke. There was only the sound of clinking utensils. During the meal, Zhao Zhu served Chu Xiong food and soup with extreme attentiveness.
Chu Ci watched coldly. She could probably guess what was going on.
According to the information from Cao Xi, Zhao Zhu was about to depart for Cantras for a high-stakes gamble. Chu Xiong certainly didn’t know about this. Her current fawning was undoubtedly for this purpose.
Chu Xiong was very familiar with Zhao Zhu’s routine of being attentive for no reason, but he also enjoyed it quite a bit. As they were finishing up, he took the soup Zhao Zhu handed him. “Speak up, what have you set your eyes on now?”
Zhao Zhu’s face turned awkward for a moment. She glanced at the “clueless” Chu Ci and Jian Sui who were still there. Chu Xiong and Chu Ci really were father and daughter; their style of speaking bluntly without regard for others’ feelings was identical.
But since Chu Xiong had opened the topic, she didn’t want to let the opportunity slip. Anyway, Chu Ci and Jian Sui didn’t know anything.
Thinking this way, and holding onto the mindset that as long as she wasn’t embarrassed, it would be the others who felt disgusted, Zhao Zhu wrapped her arm around Chu Xiong’s and leaned in, acting coquettishly.
“I just feel like it’s been a long time since I went on a trip. You don’t have time to accompany me, so I made plans with my girlfriends to go play for a few days. Is that okay?”
Chu Ci paused while drinking her soup. It had to be said that Zhao Zhu’s slightly cloying voice successfully disgusted her.
Putting down her spoon, she glanced at Jian Sui beside her, who had also stopped her chopsticks. Chu Ci stood up. “I’m finished.”
Jian Sui looked at the barely touched food in front of Chu Ci and followed her out.
Zhao Zhu glanced at the departing pair, a flash of triumph in her eyes. Good riddance; serve them right for having no situational awareness.
Chu Xiong didn’t pay much attention either, nodding casually. “Just make sure Little You is taken care of.”
“Don’t you worry!”
Zhao Zhu beamed with joy.
After Chu Ci and Jian Sui went upstairs together, Chu Ci sent a text to Cao Xi to ask about the progress of her affairs and to confirm if she had truly taken her words to heart.
Cao Xi saw the message and called back immediately. Chu Ci took the call while pretending to go to the restroom.
Rarely, Cao Xi’s background wasn’t filled with explosive noise this time. It was very quiet, with occasional voices in the distance.
“Your stepmother is quite bold.”
In the voice of Cao Xi on the other end, admiration was hard to hide.
Chu Ci rubbed her temples, knowing this wasn’t a compliment. “What is she doing now?”
“For this Cantras trip, she went to the company demanding to embezzle public funds, but she was refused. After all, the executives who actually hold power aren’t on her side. In the end, she actually wanted to mortgage the entire company to take out a loan, but she’s afraid the bank will notify your dad. Now she’s looking everywhere for connections to quickly liquidate the shares in her hand.”
Chu Ci frowned. “She’s truly gone mad. Does she think she’s the God of Gamblers?”
Cao Xi couldn’t help but laugh on the other end. “You can’t understand the gambler’s mentality. Don’t worry. Looking at the progress, she’s more anxious than we are. I’m having people buy up the shares she’s throwing out in bulk. It’s a pity, really; we could have avoided spending this money…”
“It’s better to spend it,” Chu Ci said, feeling relieved. “Remember what I said.”
“Don’t worry.”
After hanging up, Chu Ci already felt a lack of strength, her limbs felt weak.
She took a breath and tried to walk out as if nothing were wrong. She found Jian Sui wasn’t there but didn’t look into where she had gone. She supported herself as she lay down on one side of the bed and fell into a deep sleep.
When Jian Sui returned with a bowl of light porridge, she found Chu Ci was already fast asleep.
Although there had been plenty of food just now, Chu Ci had barely eaten two bites. She hadn’t even finished half of the single small bowl of soup in front of her, which was nowhere near an adult’s portion.
Jian Sui knew Chu Ci had likely lost her appetite out of disgust for Zhao Zhu, but not eating wasn’t a solution. So she had gone downstairs to cook a small bowl of porridge to bring up to her.
But Chu Ci had fallen asleep.
Waiting quietly for a while, she realized she couldn’t wake the person up just to eat. Jian Sui drank the porridge herself. It seemed she would have to wait until tomorrow and try to get Chu Ci to eat more.
One doesn’t visit people in the afternoon, so the time set with Li Sinan was in the morning. After Chu Ci and Jian Sui each went to their respective companies in the morning, they set off around ten o’clock. The three arrived at Li Sinan’s home on time.
A butler welcomed them and led them inside.
Whether in dress or personal style, Li Sinan was indeed inclined toward the flamboyant and passionate, staying at the forefront of trends. However, his home leaned more toward traditional elegance, filled with the art of “negative space,” overall simple and refined.
When they reached the guest parlor, Li Sinan was in a white Tai Chi suit, brewing tea.
“Mr. Li has such refined taste.”
The three sat down and accepted the tea brewed personally by Li Sinan.
“I know the purpose of your visit. But if I may be blunt, I can help with supporting original designs, but as for your company’s designs participating in the major exhibition, I am powerless. Such designs are too… incompatible with the positioning of our exhibition.”
These words were very tactful. Li Sinan was a person who called things as they were; he wouldn’t leave room for negotiation for things that were impossible.
“Thank you, Mr. Li. We considered this point before coming, so we brought along some design drafts and models that have never been exhibited before for your review.”
Jian Sui was still a bit surprised by Li Sinan’s attentiveness. When Cheng Feng sent the request yesterday, he hadn’t sent any of Bamboo Dream’s works, yet Li Sinan had gone to look at them. In this industry, it was unlikely that a titan like him would personally look at samples even if they were sent.
Because of this, Jian Sui gained even more respect for Li Sinan.
Li Sinan hesitated for a moment. “Mm. Let’s have a look.”
Zhao Rong suppressed the excitement in her heart, took out her briefcase, and pulled out a large stack of design drafts.
Li Sinan: …Others bring one or two, you bring a whole stack. Did you really find a free master?
But since he had agreed to look, Li Sinan couldn’t go back on his word. He could only accept them.
Upon seeing the first one, the slight displeasure Li Sinan felt just now was suppressed.
After flipping through several quickly, he looked at Jian Sui in surprise. “These are your company’s designs?”
Jian Sui nodded. “To be honest with you, these design drafts are all from the hand of one person—Zhao Rong beside me.”
Li Sinan glanced at Zhao Rong and nodded slightly. “Why weren’t such good designs brought out earlier?”
Zhao Rong looked at Jian Sui. “I am ashamed to say they were brought out once. Three or four years ago, this was the focus of Jian Sui’s and my first company. In the end, it went bankrupt. These didn’t fit the mainstream trends and could only be phased out.”
“Then why bring them to me now?” Li Sinan seemed somewhat displeased and closed the file.
Zhao Rong panicked for a moment and looked at Jian Sui again.
Jian Sui was calmer and responded steadily. “Mr. Li, please do not misunderstand. We mean no disrespect. These designs are not mainstream, but they are indeed Zhao Rong’s proudest and favorite works, ones she could never let go of. Like pearls left in the sea, they simply needed the right opportunity to shine. Today, we brought these design drafts in the hope that you, Mr. Li, could give us—and them—a chance.”
“So confident?” Li Sinan looked at Jian Sui.
“To be honest, I truly have no certainty in my heart, but I am willing to take a leap of faith.”
Jian Sui spoke the truth.
After a long silence, just as Zhao Rong was so nervous that her forehead was sweating and she thought it was all over, Li Sinan suddenly burst into laughter.
“You should be confident. This is our five thousand years of cultural aesthetics. Why shouldn’t you be confident?”
Reopening the file, Li Sinan found one of the pages. “Can you tell me the inspiration for this design?”
At the mention of this, Zhao Rong immediately perked up. Even after three or four years, the original design philosophy remained clear.
“Of course. This inspiration comes from the characteristics of the multi-layered long robes of the Qin Dynasty…”
“And this one?”
“During the Wei and Jin Dynasties, people advocated for luxury and elegance…”
Once the two started chatting, Chu Ci and Jian Sui were automatically excluded. However, this also proved Li Sinan’s appreciation for Zhao Rong. They were more than happy about it.
The conversation lasted a long time. Li Sinan simply insisted the three stay for lunch.
Li Sinan was a firm vegetarian. Although the dishes were abundant, they were indeed quite “plain.”
Chu Ci didn’t have much of an opinion on this. The nutritional meals she used to eat were sometimes more of a torture than this. Furthermore, the chef at Li Sinan’s place clearly had high skills; every dish retained the fresh fragrance and sweetness of the original ingredients, making them exceptionally delicious.
Jian Sui and Zhao Rong weren’t picky eaters either and had no objections.
Chu Ci unknowingly ate quite a bit, especially one of the soft tofu dishes—the bean aroma was everywhere, and it melted in her mouth.
After lunch, the four sat for a while longer. Li Sinan was also exceptionally happy and made the decision on the spot to set aside an entire thematic runway section specifically for Bamboo Dream in the major exhibition. This was essentially the highest level of treatment.
This was truly an unexpected boon.
Before they left, Li Sinan saw the three to the main gate, unable to hide his gratification. “Though you came to ask for my help, I am even happier than you are. That someone is willing to inherit and promote our own aesthetics is more worth celebrating than anything.”
“No matter how determined the successors are, if there are no open-minded pioneers like Mr. Li to lead the way, it would be a futile effort. It is our good fortune to meet someone like Mr. Li who is willing to lend a helping hand.”
This wasn’t exactly commercial flattery on Jian Sui’s part; sincerity made up the majority of the compliment.
“I have some contact information for craftsmen here; perhaps you’ll find them useful.”
Li Sinan had likely had someone prepare it just now—a whole sheet of phone numbers and names. At the end of each, the profession was written: Su embroidery, Yun brocade for clothing, and heirs of ancient tailoring; filigree and cloisonné for jewelry; and even mother-of-pearl lacquer carving. Everything was there.
“Thank you so much. This solves our urgent need.”
Now was exactly when this was needed most. Li Sinan’s sheet of contact information could be described as “sending charcoal in the snow.”
“It’s good if you can use it. I look forward to your exhibition.”
Li Sinan nodded. “By the way, the court date is tomorrow, right? I will definitely be present.”
On the way back in the car, the group still felt a sense of unreality.
Zhao Rong looked at the design drafts in her hand. “The old gentleman was actually so easy to talk to. I was prepared for us to be scolded out.”
Jian Sui patted Zhao Rong’s shoulder. “Have more confidence. Your designs weren’t bad to begin with.”
She was actually quite excited as well, but having met once before and chatted a bit, she wasn’t as nervous.
The one who was the least nervous was Chu Ci. Judging by his attitude toward her last time, Li Sinan appeared stern and had the sharp personality typical of the fashion world, but in reality, he was quite a nice person and not one to hold grudges.
Furthermore, she truly didn’t understand the industry; as they say, the ignorant are fearless…
The only slight pity was that they had been chatting so happily just now that she forgot to ask about the will. But there was no rush; she could ask next time.
With the matters at Li Sinan’s place settled, the three each went about their business. Jian Sui was busy with tomorrow’s court hearing, Zhao Rong was busy preparing the sample garments, and Chu Ci’s work was gradually getting on track. Everyone was very busy.
Chu Ci’s day of work was concentrated in the afternoon. She was somewhat overwhelmed and was even forced to work overtime for half an hour. When she returned, she could be described as mentally and physically exhausted.
However, clearly, Jian Sui was even busier. she sent a message saying she would be working through the night and wouldn’t be returning; she would stay directly at the company and told Chu Ci to rest early.
Seeing the message, Chu Ci was indeed tired. She replied and fell into a deep sleep.
When the alarm rang the next morning, Chu Ci felt as if her eyelids weighed a thousand pounds. Fumbling, she found her phone but could not turn off the alarm.
The sound made her feel even more uncomfortable. She forced herself up, opened her eyes, turned off the alarm, and glanced at the time.
Agony…
Supporting herself on the edge of the bed, she sat up with difficulty. Remembering that today was the day of Jian Sui’s court hearing, she held her forehead and stood up, swaying as she walked to the walk-in closet.
The clothes that had been ironed yesterday hung quietly on the rack.
On the silk fabric, a pattern of light-colored ink bamboo on a white background was vivid. The innovative design based on a retro qipao featured a generous amount of fabric that was light and airy. The two outer layers of soft, thin-as-a-cicada’s-wing gauze had lines like fine rain, instantly bringing the entire image to life.
This was Bamboo Dream’s first-anniversary commemorative piece—the one that had been plagiarized.
After Chu Ci put it on, beside her lay a long ink-jade hairpin that Jian Sui had prepared. She just needed to tie her hair up simply.
She held it and looked at it in her hand. Uh… she didn’t know how to tie it.
She held onto it for now. Chu Ci glanced in the mirror at her pale complexion and applied a bit of light makeup to cover it up; one likely couldn’t see anything unusual.
Breakfast, as usual, was only a glass of milk, but today it clearly had a strange taste and was hard to swallow.
Frowning, she only drank half a glass. When she left, she discovered the sky was a bit gloomy today; it looked like it was going to rain.
When she reached the company downstairs, Chu Ci almost failed to open the car door. When she got out, she leaned heavily against the door for a long time before she felt a bit better.
“Little Mr. Chu, are you alright?”
The driver noticed Chu Ci’s abnormality and originally wanted to step forward to support her. Chu Ci waved him off and entered the company on her own.
The sky was gloomy, and dark clouds were gathering. In front of the magnificent Chu Building, Chu Ci’s figure was thin. The wind caught her dress, and the ink bamboo danced with the wind.
But her footsteps did not hesitate. Her figure was resolute as she entered the building.
The media waiting in the shadows took photos one after another. It seemed Bamboo Dream was certain of victory in the lawsuit against Tiss; otherwise, Chu Ci wouldn’t have taken such a big risk by wearing a dress involved in a plagiarism controversy.
Everyone understood the signal this sent out. Only in a place where the media could not see, Chu Ci, having just entered the building, was actually covered in a fine sweat.
Supporting herself as she entered the elevator, Chu Ci leaned in the corner, feeling she was about to collapse. She could only call Jiang Xun.
Fortunately, her personal doctor seemed to be somewhat reliable.
Chu Ci successfully collapsed as soon as she entered her office, lacking even the strength to lift a finger.
By the time the temporary assistant brought Jiang Xun over, Chu Ci was nearly on the verge of fainting.
There were only two people in the office. Chu Ci lay on the bed in the lounge. Jiang Xun took out the prepared medicine from a high-end handbag and set up an IV drip on the spot.
“What is this?” Chu Ci’s face was deathly pale. Watching Jiang Xun casually insert the needle, she wondered if no diagnosis was needed.
“Nutritional drip. Have your eating habits been irregular lately?”
Jiang Xun had basically judged Chu Ci’s condition from the sound of the phone call and came prepared.
“I eat quite a bit,” Chu Ci weakly countered.
Jiang Xun gave her a cold look. “Oh.”
Chu Ci: …
The drip went tick-tock, and time passed bit by bit. Chu Ci indeed felt much more comfortable.
“I’ve prepared a nutritional chart for you. Hire a dedicated chef to strictly follow the nutritional meals. Get your health back quickly. At this rate, I’m afraid I’ll draw you to death just by taking a blood sample for testing.”
Jiang Xun pulled a piece of paper from her bag and gave instructions to Chu Ci while writing.
“…The way you say that makes it sound like I’m a fat pig waiting for the slaughter.”
Chu Ci hadn’t expected that in this life, she still wouldn’t escape the fate of nutritional meals, and there was also a “psycopath” doctor beside her sharpening a knife.
“It would be great if you really were as easy to raise as a pig.”
Jiang Xun finished writing and put away her pen. She glanced at the nearly finished drip. “Watch your rest and stay warm lately. If you feel like you can’t hold on, call me in time. I’ll come and give you another life-prolonging shot.”
“Hiss.”
Chu Ci watched Jiang Xun nimbly pull out the needle. Although her hand didn’t hurt much, the swift and heartless action made her feel a psychological sting.
Jiang Xun gave Chu Ci a suspicious look. Chu Ci stood up with a bit of embarrassment. “Thank you.”
“Mm.” Packing up all the medical waste, Jiang Xun stood up. “Anything else?”
“Nothing else.”
Chu Ci got out of bed and was just about to see Jiang Xun out when she received a call from Cheng Feng.
Jian Sui was still in court, but it was almost over. Chu Ci could head over there now.
That was perfect. Chu Ci and Jiang Xun went downstairs together.
Jiang Xun glanced at the pale Chu Ci. “A patient just needs to rest well; no need to see me off this far.”
“I just happen to be going out.”
Meeting Jiang Xun’s disapproving gaze, Chu Ci felt strangely guilty.
“Mm. Go out more on rainy days. That way you can become my dissection specimen sooner. I’m looking forward to it.”
Chu Ci: …Really knows how to talk.
When they reached the entrance, it had indeed started raining outside. However, it wasn’t heavy yet—a drizzle. A sense of dampness hit them.
“Cough…”
A tickle in her throat made Chu Ci want to cough. She glanced at Jiang Xun beside her and forced it back.
The two went to two separate cars. Only after entering the car did Chu Ci lean over and start coughing.
When she reached the court, there were already quite a few media members outside braving the rain. It seemed everyone had long been prepared.
She didn’t alarm these people and slipped in quietly from the other side. Cheng Feng was already waiting and immediately led her in.
Sitting silently in the last row of the gallery, Chu Ci looked toward Jian Sui, who was sitting at the plaintiff’s table.
Today, Jian Sui had also prepared carefully, also wearing a Bamboo Dream design.
the vintage crossover top and mermaid skirt were all silk. The low-key pure black fully emphasized the texture of the fabric and the high level of tailoring. A few simple pearl buttons added highlights to the outfit, preventing it from being too somber. She stood out even among the crowd.
Jian Sui seemed to feel something and looked up, accurately capturing Chu Ci’s gaze.
Across the crowd, they locked onto each other in an instant.
When the presiding judge announced the final verdict, everyone stood up. Chu Ci watched Jian Sui’s relaxed expression and knew the matter was settled.
Originally, Jian Sui’s side had ironclad evidence. Combined with the lawyer dispatched from the Chu Group, it could be said to be a powerful addition. The other side directly gave up on appealing.
Chu Ci also looked toward the opposite side, only to discover the two people there looked familiar.
Thinking back carefully, she suddenly realized those two were the ones she had met in the elevator at the club before.
So the Omega they were slandering back then was Jian Sui?
It really was a small world.
The final verdict was indeed a victory for Jian Sui’s side. Tiss was required to issue a formal apology, compensate for various losses, and withdraw all sales of the plagiarized items.
Although such punishment wasn’t heavy, it thoroughly pinned the other party to the pillar of shame for plagiarism, which was what mattered most.
Everything ended, the crowd dispersed. Jian Sui took the black jacket draped over the back of her chair and walked straight toward Chu Ci.
Zuo Fei from Tiss glanced at Chu Ci beside Jian Sui, already understanding everything. He pulled his still-defiant colleague and left in a hurry. This time, they were definitely going to pay the price for their arrogance.
Jian Sui approached and took Chu Ci’s arm, a rare, relaxed smile on her face. “We won.”
“Mm. Ms. Jian is amazing.”
Chu Ci was not at all stingy with her praise.
Jian Sui, on the other hand, felt a bit embarrassed.
Chu Ci took out the black jade hairpin from her hand and handed it to Jian Sui. “I don’t know how to tie my hair.”
Understanding Chu Ci’s meaning, Jian Sui hesitated for a moment, her heart rate suddenly accelerating. “You want me to help you tie it?”
Chu Ci didn’t notice anything and nodded. She turned her back and gathered her smooth, waist-length hair.
Holding the hairpin, it was impossible for Jian Sui not to be nervous. She had done her own hair so many times, but this was her first time doing it for someone else.
Especially when that person was Chu Ci.
The hair, as smooth as silk, was gathered in her palm. The long black jade hairpin was gently lifted and wrapped around in circles within it. Finally, the long hairpin was passed through the middle, forming a bun.
“Done?”
Chu Ci hadn’t expected it to be so quick. Hearing Jian Sui’s response, she turned around. “Then shall we go?”
Jian Sui looked up, her breath hitching slightly.
Chu Ci’s hairstyles were varied, but previously she had loved the exaggerated and leaned more toward the mature and seductive. After marriage, it was basically long, straight black hair or occasionally exquisite waves, but it was rarely tied up.
Now, with just a single long hairpin gathering all her hair, it perfectly emphasized her superior features. The loose bun and some stray hairs added a touch of laziness, perfectly matching the airy long dress. She looked like the Goddess of the Luo River from an ancient painting, lightly napping amidst the mountains and rivers.
Hurriedly coming back to herself, Jian Sui averted her gaze, not daring to look further. “Okay.”
Walking out of the court together, the two shared a black umbrella against the misty rain, walking down the high and wide steps of the court step by step.
A gust of light cold came with the slanting wind and fine rain. Although Chu Ci had just had a nutritional drip, she still shivered a bit when the cold wind blew.
Jian Sui noticed Chu Ci’s cold hand. She took off the jacket draped over her arm and placed it over Chu Ci’s shoulders.
“Won’t that hide the clothes?”
Chu Ci still remembered the purpose of her coming here.
“Nothing is more important than your health.”
