The Sickly Girl Becomes a Scum Alpha - Chapter 41
Jian Sui sat down beside Chu Ci and glanced at the medicine bottle in her hand. “How about I do it myself?”
“I’ll do it.”
Chu Ci was exceptionally proactive. Thinking about how much Jian Sui had done for her, applying a bit of medicine felt like the perfect time to give something back.
Unable to resist Chu Ci’s sincerity, Jian Sui—though somewhat doubtful if Chu Ci actually knew how to apply medicine—chose to trust her and agreed.
Holding the bottle, Chu Ci looked quite serious as she studied the instruction manual…
“It doesn’t say how to rub it on here. I’ll call Jiang Xun and ask.”
Once the call connected, Jiang Xun was clearly opinionated. “You’re asking me about something so trivial? Just use your hands to put the medicine on Jian Sui!”
“Huh? What about the parts where the skin is broken?” Chu Ci blinked.
“Haven’t they already scabbed over? What’s the difference? I’m turning off my phone; don’t contact me again tonight.”
Jiang Xun was arguably the most arrogant family doctor in existence; she hung up on her employer immediately after speaking.
Chu Ci put down her phone and looked at her hands. Why did Jiang Xun’s advice sound so unreliable? Between doubt and trust, Chu Ci ultimately chose to believe in Jiang Xun’s professionalism.
“I’m going to wash my hands.”
Since she would be touching wounds, she felt the need to maintain basic sterile standards.
Chu Ci went to the bathroom and washed her hands several times. To ensure they were clean, she even rubbed her fingers until they were red. After carefully drying them, she hesitated over the ointment before taking a small amount out with her finger.
She didn’t know what the ointment was made of, but it felt icy cool.
“Tell me if it hurts.”
Since it was Chu Ci’s first time applying medicine to someone, she didn’t forget to remind Jian Sui.
Jian Sui nodded and turned sideways toward Chu Ci, extending her arm. Her injuries were mostly on her arms and back, which would have been difficult to handle alone, so having Chu Ci’s help was perfect timing.
Chu Ci’s slender, reddened fingers pressed the cool ointment gently onto Jian Sui’s skin. The originally burning scars were hit by the cold, causing Jian Sui to flinch slightly.
Noticing this, Chu Ci slowed down and made her movements even gentler. Her fingertips moved in slow circles on Jian Sui’s skin, helping the ointment absorb more quickly and evenly.
Jian Sui couldn’t help but look over. Chu Ci, with her eyes downcast and her lips slightly pursed as she focused on applying the medicine, looked as if she were performing an extremely important task.
As the ointment was rubbed in evenly, Jian Sui could feel Chu Ci’s cool fingertips picking up her body heat, gradually becoming warm…
Chu Ci took another dollop of ointment on her fingertip. She looked at the small patch she had just rubbed and then at the large area of injuries on Jian Sui’s body. The closer she looked, the more she couldn’t bear it.
Jian Sui’s skin was also quite pale, so the bruises and the solidified scabs were exceptionally obvious. Although much of the swelling had subsided, they looked like withered flowers after a defeat—dim in color. Perhaps only after fading completely could they radiate new life.
Hopefully, this is Jian Sui’s last time fading and being reborn. From now on, let everything be intense and vigorous, never to wither again.
After finishing the scars on the arms, only those on the back and legs remained. Chu Ci stood with ointment on her finger, feeling a bit at a loss. Jian Sui turned her back, gathered her long hair in front of her, and lowered her head. The straps of her nightgown slipped down, pooling at her waist to reveal her smooth back. The lines of her shoulder blades fanned out like a butterfly’s wings.
Chu Ci’s mind shook slightly. She suppressed her gaze, her face flushing as her fingertips trembled slightly while spreading the ointment on Jian Sui’s back.
Between the cool ointment and the burning skin, she couldn’t tell which sensation lingered more on her fingertips.
The long mark from the stick on the back extended all the way to the side of the waist. As Chu Ci’s fingertip traced along it, she felt Jian Sui shiver. She stopped her movement. “Ticklish?”
“It’s fine.”
Jian Sui’s voice was low and raspy, but Chu Ci didn’t hear anything unusual in it.
“It’ll be done soon, just bear with it a moment.”
Chu Ci quickened her pace. After her fingertips quickly and lightly brushed over the area, she immediately withdrew her hand and let out an imperceptible sigh of relief.
Jian Sui reached up to pull her straps back on and turned around. Only the legs were left. She held out her hand. “Should I do it myself?”
Adhering to the principle of “sending the Buddha all the way to the West”—meaning seeing a task through to the end—Chu Ci shook her head and knelt down by the bedside.
A long scrape ran from the knee to the calf. The more severe parts had scabbed over, while other areas had marks of varying degrees. They looked like flaws on white jade; they didn’t look ugly, only pitiable.
Chu Ci kept her eyes focused strictly on the injuries. Supporting herself with one hand on the edge of the bed, she gently rubbed on the ointment with the other.
Because this was where the deepest scars were, Chu Ci was afraid she might leave a mark if she didn’t apply it well. She was extra careful, her fingertips grinding slowly, the friction against the hard scabs turning her pads slightly red.
Finally finishing the last bit, Chu Ci took a breath and looked up at Jian Sui. Phew, mission accomplished.
The ointment Jiang Xun provided was definitely the best. Although the paste was thick, it was absorbed quickly after being rubbed in, feeling crisp and refreshing. Even the original pain had mostly dissipated.
Jian Sui reached out a hand toward Chu Ci. “Let me pull you up.”
Chu Ci didn’t dare act tough. She obediently took Jian Sui’s hand and rose slowly.
Despite being careful enough, she still couldn’t escape the sudden blackness of her vision after crouching for so long. Chu Ci swayed slightly, but with Jian Sui’s support, she remained stable.
She originally thought she just needed a moment to recover, but Jian Sui seemed a bit too worried. Jian Sui tried to get up to help Chu Ci sit down. However, as she started to rise, she reflexively tightened her grip on Chu Ci’s hand. Instantly, Chu Ci, who was already like a wobbling tumbler toy, lost her balance and fell forward following the force.
Chu Ci, with her vision pitch black, felt extremely insecure. Her hands reached out and happened to grab Jian Sui’s shoulders, pressing the rising Jian Sui back down. To maintain her balance, she stepped one leg forward to half-kneel on the bed, stabilizing both of them.
In this short interval, the blackness in front of Chu Ci’s eyes finally cleared a bit. She blinked hard and saw the scene in front of her.
The current posture of the two was, to put it bluntly, a bit awkward. Jian Sui was sitting on the edge of the bed, leaning back slightly. her slender neck was completely exposed to Chu Ci, and her face was forced upward. One hand was on Chu Ci’s waist, worried she might fall, while the other was interlaced with Chu Ci’s hand.
Chu Ci was leaning forward, standing before Jian Sui with one leg half-kneeling at her side. Their distance had become intimate and seamless. One of her hands was still on Jian Sui’s shoulder. If she lowered her head just a bit more, they would be kissing…
Their eyes met, and they could clearly see their own reflections in each other’s pupils.
Chu Ci’s pupils trembled. As if she had been burned, she hurriedly looked away, her face flushing red as she let go and stepped back. “I’m going to wash my hands.”
Jian Sui felt Chu Ci’s hand pull away from hers. Watching her back as she seemed to flee into the bathroom, a faint smile appeared in her eyes, mixed with a touch of helplessness.
What to do if the wife is too innocent?
No rush, take it slow.
By the time Chu Ci came out, Jian Sui had already lied down on the other side. The distance between them in the middle had decreased, but a clear boundary still remained.
Chu Ci looked at her own side of the blanket, turned off the lights, and crawled in.
“Goodnight.”
A soft whisper came from Jian Sui’s side in the darkness.
Chu Ci tucked the corners of her blanket in and glanced toward Jian Sui. She thought to herself that their relationship was indeed progressing rapidly. Jian Sui’s character really did match the original novel—always kind and forgiving. She had only helped apply some medicine, and Jian Sui was already proactively saying goodnight to her.
“Goodnight.”
Chu Ci, happy to have been helpful, responded softly.
