The Unhinged O Has Designs On Me - Chapter 5
“Yue Xing, are you really a beta?”
Du Nian kept feeling as though she had smelled the fragrance of pheromones on Yue Xing. It was very faint and very light, disappearing in an instant.
Because it had vanished too quickly, Du Nian also suspected she might have smelled wrong.
Yue Xing had only just been feeling grateful that she was a beta. Hearing this, she nodded decisively. “Of course!”
She had a perfectly sufficient reason. “I’ve never had a heat before. What else could I be besides a beta?”
Du Nian pondered for a moment, then still slowly nodded.
That was indeed true. Whether alpha or omega, most would experience their special periods when their bodies first began developing.
But Yue Xing was eighteen this year and had still never had one. She could only be a beta.
Only after seeing Du Nian nod in agreement did Yue Xing finally put down the heart she had been holding up.
Du Nian’s pheromone grade was A, and the higher the grade, the stronger one’s perception of pheromones.
Yue Xing was truly afraid that Du Nian would suddenly tell her—I think you’re an omega/alpha.
Both would be nightmares.
For the latter half of the journey, Yue Xing did not say a word, afraid that if even one sentence was wrong, it would provoke Shen Jingmian into settling accounts with her later.
Fortunately, along the way, Shen You and Du Nian completely separated her from Shen Jingmian.
Perhaps worried that the star pirate attack had frightened them, Shen You took the initiative to speak, telling them some things to pay attention to after entering the school.
Du Nian’s mood shifted very quickly. Before long, she had recovered from the dangerous attack just now and began chatting with Shen You enthusiastically.
New students were full of youthful vitality, and the new student life that belonged to them was equally rich and colorful.
As Yue Xing listened, she unconsciously sank her mind into it.
Chixing’s courses were divided into practical and theoretical classes, lasting four years in total.
Among them, the first year had more theory, roughly a three-to-seven ratio. Each year, the practical side increased. By the fourth year, that was, for graduating students, all of them would go to the battlefield to kill Zerg and earn scores.
Zerg… At the mention of this, Yue Xing’s gaze involuntarily drifted to the right.
That story had not used many words to describe her death, but Shen Jingmian, as the greatest villain of the entire text, had her death written clearly.
She colluded with the Zerg and opened the spatial tunnel between humanity and the Zerg, causing the border army to be wiped out overnight.
Shen Jingmian was powerful. Even though everyone knew she was malicious by nature and had committed countless crimes, no one could do anything to her.
Even her eventual death was entirely because Shen Jingmian’s pheromone disorder suddenly flared up. She lost control and died violently in public.
As Yue Xing thought this over, a plan gradually formed in her heart.
Pheromone disorder was Shen Jingmian’s greatest known weakness, and it was also where Yue Xing, as a beta, held the greatest advantage.
As long as she could determine the cause of Shen Jingmian’s pheromone disorder and the timing of its attacks, she would have a chance to kill her.
This accident might make Shen Jingmian wary of her. After arriving at the military academy, it would be best to mention her as little as possible. But in that case, asking around about Shen Jingmian would have to be delayed…
Yue Xing immersed herself in thought, her fingertips unconsciously rubbing the fabric over her thigh.
Shen You was explaining things to Du Nian when her eyes suddenly lifted slightly. A familiar feeling of being watched descended, piercing straight through.
Du Nian was listening with great interest and sensed nothing, so the gaze probably was not directed at her.
Then who was Shen Jingmian looking at?
Shen You paused for only a moment before decisively withdrawing her gaze. She continued chatting happily with Du Nian, giving up on trying to guess Shen Jingmian’s thoughts.
Someone like Shen Jingmian could not be contemplated too deeply.
The first step, the second step, the third step that you thought of—each one was a step she wanted you to think of.
And as you kept walking, you would be gone.
When Yue Xing finally stood on the grounds of Chixing Military Academy, she let out a long breath from the bottom of her heart.
Du Nian had spent the whole trip listening to Shen You’s introductions, and her heart had long since flown here. Now that they had finally arrived, her gaze could not help darting left and right.
Chixing occupied a vast area. Everywhere the eye could see, flowers, grass, and trees stood in abundance, with buildings scattered among them in staggered order. Their texture was silver-gray, technology and order existing side by side.
On the ground floated pale-blue guide light strips, all pointing in the same direction.
Shen You stood behind the two of them and smilingly put an arm around each of their shoulders, extremely proud. “Well? Chixing is amazing, right?”
Two heads nodded at the same time.
Shen You was quite satisfied. “All right, we won’t delay you two any longer. Just follow the markers on the road and you’ll get to the registration office. We have to go report back too.”
Yue Xing had quite a good impression of this smiling senior, so she said goodbye and thanked her warmly for quite a while.
“What lovely little faces.”
Watching the two leave happily, Shen You rubbed her chin and sighed with a smile. “Going on one more errand with you and getting to know two pretty juniors. Heh, I profited!”
Hearing this, Shen Jingmian cast her a faint glance and said coldly, “The power of the sword-teeth still cannot compare to someone’s lustful heart.”
Shen You shivered and decisively raised both hands in surrender, but she could not help defending the pretty junior a little.
“You were the one who told her to go activate the defense system. The situation was urgent then, and in her panic, she tried whatever she could and accidentally pressed the mechanism button. Why are you still holding such a tiny matter against her?”
A tiny matter.
It was far more than one matter, and far from tiny.
Shen Jingmian gave a low scoff. Anger rose and fell in her eyes before she pressed it down again.
Sooner or later, she would settle this account with Yue Xing.
Shen You still wanted to speak, but Shen Jingmian had already turned around, her cold and proud figure blocking back the rest of her words.
Shen You lifted her leg and followed. Thinking of the danger this time, she could not help complaining.
“Thank goodness we brought them back safely. This time, we almost turned a good deed into a disaster. Those old things from the Shen family really are—”
Before Shen You could finish grumbling, she saw Shen Jingmian raise a hand to silence her.
“I know what I’m doing.”
Shen Jingmian said lightly, “Also, order someone to keep an eye on Du Nian.”
“All right.” Shen You had already expected this the moment she learned Du Nian’s pheromone grade. Still, she had one question.
“What about Yue Xing?”
Shen Jingmian did not stop walking.
Shen You understood. She did not need to handle that one.
·
After Yue Xing finished registering, she was pleasantly surprised to discover that she and Du Nian were both in First Year Class C, because class placement was arranged according to the order of registration.
Once the two finished the enrollment procedures, they parted at the intersection.
Chixing’s dormitory conditions were unexpectedly good, far beyond Yue Xing’s expectations. A layout with two bedrooms and one living room was much better than the eight-person dormitory she had been assigned at the casino before.
When Yue Xing arrived at the dormitory, her other roommate was already there. One of the two bedroom doors had been opened, and a cheerful song drifted out from inside.
Yue Xing quietly walked closer. The person in the room clearly had not realized she had arrived. A head of pink hair swayed left and right, cheerful and natural.
Knock, knock. Yue Xing rapped twice on the door panel and chuckled. “Hello. Are you my roommate?”
The girl turned and looked back. Her eyes instantly lit up. She had a bright, radiant face, and when the corners of her mouth curved up, she looked like a dazzling little sun.
“Hello!” Ming Le smilingly leaned closer. Her eyes swept over Yue Xing’s beautiful face, and as she looked, she nodded.
Her gaze was harmless, full of approval and satisfaction.
Yue Xing coughed lightly, interrupting her immersive appreciation. “I’m Yue Xing. What about you?”
Ming Le generously held out her hand. “I’m Ming Le! The Le from music.”
Yue Xing’s eyes lit up, and she decisively clasped her hand.
The features under Ming Le’s gaze seemed to be injected with some kind of vitality. Yue Xing’s black eyes were bright, and the way she looked at Ming Le was as if she were looking at a sweet cake, filled with great favor.
Neither of their rooms had been cleaned yet. After they chatted briefly, Yue Xing returned to her own room.
The moment she closed the door, Yue Xing could no longer hold back the smile on her face.
She had hit the jackpot!
Ming Le, another protagonist from the story, an A-rank alpha, was now actually her roommate.
Yue Xing had originally been worried that Shen Jingmian would come find her later to settle accounts. Now things were good. Usually, she had Du Nian in class, and when she returned to the dormitory, she had Ming Le—
Her personal safety was temporarily secured.
As long as she did not leave the school, Shen Jingmian would have no opportunity to make a move against her on campus.
Yue Xing thought that after waiting for a while and developing herself a little, she could properly investigate Shen Jingmian’s pheromone disorder.
With her mind made up, Yue Xing put away her thoughts and began tidying her room.
The room was not particularly large. Yue Xing had not had time to buy bedding, so she simply washed and dried the items provided by the school, put them on, then cleaned briefly. Everything became neat and tidy.
“Yue Xing!”
Ming Le came to knock on the door.
“Yue Xing, have you picked up your device yet? Want to go together?”
Yue Xing hurriedly got up to open the door and agreed.
Both of them had already finished tidying up, so they set off together for the academy’s Equipment Department to pick up their new student devices.
The device was a round chip. Once embedded into its matching chain, it would automatically activate. It was needed for daily class schedules, check-ins, study materials, and scanning codes when going out.
Ming Le toyed with the chain, winding it once around her wrist. With the slightest touch, it fell off, and she could not help complaining.
“Wearing this on the wrist makes it way too easy to slip off. What if it falls outside and gets—”
Yue Xing stared at the course schedule and slowly narrowed her eyes.
Ming Le talked for quite a while, but she did not hear Yue Xing respond. Turning her head, she saw that Yue Xing had actually stopped in place.
She could only turn back in confusion and ask, “What’s wrong?”
Yue Xing spoke as if she had seen something terrible, her voice very strained.
“Why is Senior Shen Jingmian teaching our combat confrontation class?”
“Hm?” When Ming Le heard this, she was actually delighted. “It’s true. Shen Jingmian is teaching combat confrontation for this whole semester. What a coincidence.”
Yue Xing heard the joy in her voice, and the corner of her mouth twitched slightly. Their joys and sorrows truly did not share the same fate.
One semester, three classes a week. Rounded up, that was practically the same as living in fear of Shen Jingmian every single day.
“Oh right, Yue Xing, do you know Shen Jingmian?” Ming Le asked in confusion. “Most new students shouldn’t know her… probably.”
Halfway through saying this, Ming Le remembered the things she had once heard from her younger sister about Shen Jingmian and silently changed her words.
Yue Xing nodded, not particularly happy. “When we enrolled, Senior Shen came to pick us up.”
Her words paused slightly, and she added, “She came together with Senior Shen You.”
Hearing this, Ming Le was first puzzled that Shen Jingmian had such good intentions, but after hearing the second half, she understood and nodded. “Oh, I see.”
“So that’s how it was. I heard that every year, third-years are selected to replace the school in picking up new students. This year, they probably just happened to be chosen.”
Yue Xing glanced sideways at her. “You know Senior Shen?”
This time, it was Ming Le’s turn for her eyes to drift away. She casually rambled a few words, very obviously brushing the question off.
Yue Xing noticed something was wrong and instantly perked up.
Linking this with Ming Le’s joy earlier, Yue Xing moved her eyes right in front of Ming Le, extremely shocked.
“Don’t tell me you like her!?”
“Who said that!” Ming Le slapped Yue Xing on the shoulder.
Her reaction was too big, making Yue Xing feel even more that something was wrong. But what followed was also a trace of pleasant surprise—
If the person Ming Le liked was not Du Nian, then didn’t that mean the story was false?!
In other words, the matter of her dying because of Shen Jingmian would also be false.
Yue Xing’s eyes grew even brighter. Now she refused to let Ming Le off even more.
Ming Le tried to leave, and Yue Xing quickly followed behind her.
Yue Xing saw a bit of shy anger in Ming Le’s eyes, and she became even more excited.
On the way there, Ming Le had been a little loudspeaker, but on the way back, she became mute. Yet the more silent Ming Le was, the happier Yue Xing became.
To achieve her goals, Yue Xing had always been willing to use any means necessary.
Along the way, Ming Le’s ears were assaulted without a single pause by Yue Xing acting spoiled, threatening her, and provoking her. She just watched Yue Xing blink those two eyes of hers, swaying left and right in front of her.
So persistent. So clingy.
Seeing that they had reached the dormitory and that little mouth was still ready to follow her in and keep talking, Ming Le compromised.
“All right, all right, stop nagging! I’ll tell you!”
Yue Xing immediately went quiet.
Ming Le was convinced by her, and also gained a new understanding of just how much someone could give when gossiping.
Yue Xing’s bright black eyes stared without blinking. She craned her neck and looked at Ming Le expectantly, sitting there waiting for the surprise to arrive.
Bathed in such a gaze, Ming Le thought of what she was about to say, and her face turned visibly red.
Yue Xing silently went wow. Ming Le keenly noticed and glared at her, making her behave.
“Actually, I knew her when we were children.”
“Because Shen Jingmian and I differentiated early, and it just so happened that one of us was an alpha and the other was an omega. Both families were happy to deepen the relationship further, so they prepared to arrange a marriage alliance between us.”
A very good beginning. Yue Xing did not even blink as she waited for Ming Le to continue.
“The elders of both families agreed, but at that time, Shen Jingmian and I had only met each other hastily a few times. Strictly speaking, we were still at the stage where we didn’t even recognize each other’s faces.”
Ming Le emphasized the last sentence heavily. Yue Xing blinked and swept her gaze over Ming Le’s pink hair and blue eyes, very perceptive.
“You must have been very cute when you were little. Anyone who saw you would like you.”
Ming Le instantly jumped up in excitement when she heard this, as if she had found a soulmate.
“Right! Right! But do you know what Shen Jingmian said when she saw me—”
“‘You’re as bright as a lightbulb. Looking at you makes my eyes hurt.’”
Yue Xing could not hold it in and covered her mouth, laughing until her eyes curved.
So Shen Jingmian’s mouth had already been poisonous when she was little?
Yue Xing thought of the expression Shen Jingmian had worn when she looked down and asked whether Yue Xing was begging her, and it fit perfectly.
Shen Jingmian looked cold, and her mouth was also terribly cold.
“You’re still laughing. Do you know I was sad for ages because of those words when I was little? I even started doubting whether this hair color was really ugly.”
When Ming Le brought this up, her anger was still hard to suppress. That brilliant sky-blue seemed to have been folded into a ring by someone, wrinkling into a ball.
Her gaze shifted, and Ming Le’s eyes landed on Yue Xing’s black hair and black eyes, thoughtful.
“Speaking of which, Shen Jingmian’s ideal type probably looks exactly like you, right?”
The smile froze at the corner of Yue Xing’s mouth.
