Transmigrated as the Cannon Fodder Marked by the Villain (GL) - Chapter 44
Ruan Jiyan was nestled in Fu Qingyun’s arms, letting the other woman lead her. In truth, she wasn’t scared at all, but the moment she hid in the other person’s embrace, she couldn’t help but want that person to hold her.
“Ruan Bao, are you scared?”
“A little.”
Fu Qingyun couldn’t help but let out a smile that no one could see in the darkness. She tightened her arm around Ruan Jiyan’s lower back.
Scared?
She didn’t feel Ruan Jiyan was scared at all.
Fu Qingyun didn’t expose Ruan Jiyan’s “lie.” Instead, she hugged her even tighter.
She led Ruan Jiyan through the long, dark corridor. Suddenly, a piercing scream erupted. Fu Qingyun quickly covered Ruan Jiyan’s ears.
The more she listened, the more familiar the scream sounded, as if she had heard it somewhere before. Fu Qingyun didn’t dwell on it and continued walking. The castle was huge. She held Ruan Jiyan’s hand and went upstairs to find the key to open the door and escape. Suddenly, someone rushed down the stairs in a panic, shouting loudly:
“Help! There are ghosts!”
Fu Qingyun: “…”
What is a haunted house without ghosts?
She and Ruan Jiyan had just climbed to the second floor when a zombie with severed hands and feet suddenly crawled out not far away. Fu Qingyun skillfully maneuvered around the old zombie who was lunging at them, pushed open a door, and slipped inside.
Sounds of knocking came from outside the door. Fu Qingyun turned on her phone flashlight to search for the key. She initially thought the haunted house was the type where you just walk through, but she hadn’t expected to actually need to find a key to escape.
“Sister, this room doesn’t look like it would have a key.”
Ruan Jiyan looked up and saw a female ghost in red hanging from the rafters, which was clearly fake. In this setting, any timid person would have fainted on the spot.
The surrounding walls were covered with severed limbs. Fu Qingyun twitched the corner of her mouth and took a few steps back, accidentally stepping on something soft. Immediately, the pale arms on the wall started moving.
Fu Qingyun checked the room. There were no live NPCs in this room, and she didn’t find the key to open the door.
Knocking sounds and piercing screams came from outside the door again. Fu Qingyun and Ruan Jiyan sat on the bed to rest for a while, then opened the door and continued searching for the key.
As the door opened, they were met by several players being chased by zombies. Fu Qingyun took Ruan Jiyan’s hand and quietly followed behind the zombies.
“Wuwuwu, Mommy, where are you?”
Someone was so scared they were calling for their mother. Fu Qingyun turned her head and coincidentally spotted Lin Lesheng, who was cornered by the zombies.
Ruan Jiyan naturally saw her too. She subtly poked Fu Qingyun’s side and whispered, “Sister, should we save her?”
Fu Qingyun shook her head: “She must have come with Xuan Yu. She doesn’t need us to save her. Let’s go find the key.”
“Mhm.”
Hearing Fu Qingyun’s reply, Ruan Jiyan felt inexplicably cheerful. She followed behind the other woman, bending slightly to avoid the zombie’s gaze, and then Fu Qingyun pulled her along in a frantic run.
The two reached the innermost room. Fu Qingyun bravely pushed the door open. The room was dominated by a red bridal bed. The ghost bride was sitting in front of the mirror, slowly combing her hair. The key was resting on the bride’s dressing table.
Fu Qingyun told Ruan Jiyan to wait for her at the door. She cautiously bent down and walked over. As she got closer to the ghost bride, she couldn’t help but look at her, only to find that the ghost bride was also staring at her.
“Excuse me for disturbing you.”
Fu Qingyun politely apologized. Just as she reached out to grab the key, the ghost bride suddenly chuckled.
She pulled a phone out of her jacket pocket, opened a WeChat QR code, and said, “Add my WeChat, and I’ll give it to you.”
Fu Qingyun: “…”
How could she run into something like this?
Ruan Jiyan stood at the door, waiting for Fu Qingyun to come out. Seeing that she successfully got the key, she couldn’t help but ask, “Sister, did the female ghost chase you?”
“No,” Fu Qingyun answered truthfully. She gave Ruan Jiyan a slightly guilty look and said, “Hurry up. Let’s open the door and hand the key over to the staff.”
The two avoided the numerous ghosts and finally reached the main door. Fu Qingyun opened the door, led Ruan Jiyan outside, and the door immediately shut behind them.
The feeling of seeing the light of day again was truly exhilarating. Although the NPCs didn’t scare Fu Qingyun, she felt that bringing Ruan Jiyan to a place like this could definitely increase their intimacy.
“Was it fun?”
“It was fun.”
Ruan Jiyan nodded. Escaping the haunted house was physically demanding. Her stomach was starting to feel hungry again.
“Is there anything else you want to ride? I’ll take you.”
“No.”
“Didn’t you want to ride the roller coaster? I’ll accompany you.”
Ruan Jiyan pulled Fu Qingyun’s hand and found a place to sit. It was her first time at an amusement park, but the place wasn’t what she had imagined. It was crowded and noisy.
She preferred quiet places.
Ruan Jiyan shook her head again.
“Then let’s go back,” Fu Qingyun saw that she had lost all interest, so she took Ruan Jiyan onto the slow-moving sightseeing cable car. After circling the entire amusement park, they left through another gate.
Meanwhile, Lin Lesheng was still fighting hard against the chasing zombies. She and Xuan Yu had been separated by the crowd shortly after entering. She tried calling and sending her location to Xuan Yu, but the other person’s phone was off, which made her so angry she almost swore loudly.
Lin Lesheng screamed and rushed into an empty room. She turned on her phone flashlight to illuminate the room. There was nothing inside. Just as she was stubbornly about to call Xuan Yu again, she accidentally opened her WeChat Moments.
Zhou Wan had posted an update:
I have always liked you.
The moment she saw the words, Lin Lesheng instinctively held her breath. She stared fixedly at the Moments page, completely unaware of the female ghost that had quietly appeared behind her.
The ghost in white saw the player squatting motionlessly on the ground. She cautiously leaned closer, only to find that the person still didn’t react.
Lin Lesheng started brainstorming again.
Why did Zhou Wan suddenly post on Moments? What did she mean by this post? She said she had always liked someone. Who could this person be?
“I got you~”
A chilling voice came from behind. Lin Lesheng jumped in fright, dropping her phone on the ground. Fortunately, the floor was carpeted, so her phone survived.
“Don’t come near me! Help!”
Lin Lesheng ran off with her phone clutched in her hand. The moment she rushed out the door, she bumped into someone.
“Lesheng, you’re here. I’ve been looking for you for ages.”
“Why didn’t you answer my calls?”
Lin Lesheng hugged Xuan Yu like a savior: “Wuwuwu, I was scared to death! That ghost even hit me!”
“My phone died. Did you bring a power bank?”
Lin Lesheng fumbled in her bag and handed the power bank to Xuan Yu: “Yes, here.”
The phone quickly turned on. Xuan Yu checked it and saw that besides the calls from Lin Lesheng, she also had calls from Qiao Yunjin.
Xuan Yu’s breathing hitched. She didn’t know why the other woman would suddenly call her at this hour. She turned away and dialed the number back.
“Why are you only answering my call now?”
The woman’s lazy voice carried a hint of impatience. Xuan Yu recognized it instantly.
“I’m sorry, CEO Qiao. My phone died and shut off.”
“Come to me right now.”
Xuan Yu looked embarrassed: “But CEO Qiao, you said only on Saturdays and Sundays…”
“That’s changed now. I want you to be available whenever I call.”
“CEO Qiao, I…”
“Doo-doo-doo—”
The call was cut off. Xuan Yu knew she couldn’t disobey the woman’s orders, or she would immediately stop her mother’s hospital treatment.
“Lesheng, something came up at home. I need to go back first.”
“What huge problem? Let me go with you.”
Xuan Yu shook her head, refusing immediately: “It’s nothing serious. My mom misses me and wants me to go see her at the hospital now. I don’t want to keep her waiting.”
Even though Lin Lesheng was still scared, she couldn’t ask Xuan Yu to stay with her and miss visiting her Auntie. She smiled: “Then be careful on your own. I’ll fight the rest of the battle here with your mission in mind.”
“Okay.”
Xuan Yu found a staff member and had them lead her out. She hailed a taxi outside the amusement park and rushed to Qiao Yunjin’s villa in a hurry.
She had upset the woman today. Xuan Yu knew she wouldn’t be treated kindly. She composed herself and rang the doorbell.
Fu Qingyun drove Ruan Jiyan around. Song Nanyan had secretly driven away with her car, so Fu Qingyun had no choice but to take another one from the garage.
She saw Ruan Jiyan looking unhappy. She tried to cheer her up while steering the wheel.
“Do you not have class this afternoon?”
“No. I have a full schedule tomorrow.”
Life without school or work was truly great. Fu Qingyun wished she could live like this every day, but this world was ultimately fictional. Fu Qingyun couldn’t become so attached to this perfect world that she couldn’t leave. She had to go back.
Time passed quickly. Yu Minjun successfully passed the two-month mark, and her condition was gradually improving.
Fu Qingyan was initially focused on grooming Fu Qingyun to inherit the family fortune, but unfortunately, Fu Qingyun had no talent for business. She didn’t have the shrewd business mind that Fu Qingyan possessed.
Facing his silly younger sister, Fu Qingyan had no choice but to give up. He transferred twenty percent of the company’s shares to Fu Qingyun’s name, only wishing that she could live a safe and peaceful life.
Fu Qingyun didn’t know she had received so many shares of the company. Her only wish now was to successfully wait until Ruan Jiyan graduated and found a job, and then complete the final part of the plot.
“Brother, you don’t actually want me to be your secretary, do you?”
Fu Qingyun walked into Fu Qingyan’s office. She sat in the CEO’s exclusive chair, looking at the mountain of documents in front of her, and felt a headache coming on.
“What do you think?”
Fu Qingyan sighed: “I wouldn’t dare have you as my secretary. I’d be scared.”
“Then what do you think of Ruan Jiyan?”
Fu Qingyun became enthusiastic at the mention of this. Ruan Jiyan majored in Finance, which was a perfect fit. If she didn’t pursue further studies after graduation, she could come directly to the Fu Corporation.
Seeing Fu Qingyun’s strong recommendation, Fu Qingyan couldn’t help but pat her head and smile: “Jiyan hasn’t graduated yet. I will consider it after she graduates.”
