What Should I Do If I Wake Up and It’s the Apocalypse? (GL) - Chapter 11
After fussing for quite a while, Mu Xiao finally managed to stop her nosebleed.
As the dull pain gradually faded, she even had the mood to pitifully show off her nose and ask whether it had been smashed flat and become ugly.
Naturally, An Qi hurriedly comforted her, saying that Mu Xiao Sister still looked very pretty. Fatty sighed over how big-hearted this girl was. As for Ling Qi, she looked at Mu Xiao with a subtle gaze, staring until Mu Xiao awkwardly pinched the bridge of her nose, turned her head, and obediently sat properly, no longer talking nonsense.
Even Mu Xiao herself did not know why she felt so guilty.
After feeling guilty for a short while, Mu Xiao suddenly thought of a terrifying possibility. She abruptly turned her head to look at Ling Qi, the movement so big that even Fatty and An Qi looked over in confusion.
“Ling Qi, have we… met before?” Relying on her complicated train of thought, Mu Xiao came up with a possibility that could explain Ling Qi’s gaze.
Ling Qi merely glanced at her lightly. “Should we have met?”
That ambiguous answer made Mu Xiao feel so frantic inside that she could hardly stand it, yet she could not keep asking. Otherwise, it would really become a case of “there is no silver buried here.”
Just when Mu Xiao was almost about to scratch her ears and cheeks in frustration, Ling Qi added, “I only arrived in this city today. It’s my first time here.”
“Oh… maybe I mistook you for someone else.” Mu Xiao answered dryly, no longer knowing whether she was happy, or whether she resented Ling Qi for always pausing so calmly before finishing her words.
“The hospital is up ahead. Where should I stop?” Fatty spoke, breaking the brief silence.
Mu Xiao immediately looked at An Qi. An Qi reacted quickly as well. Without needing Mu Xiao to ask, she immediately answered, “Mommy is on the fifth floor, in surgery!”
“Your mom sometimes performs operations on people?” Fatty glanced at An Qi while turning the steering wheel and asking.
“Mm!” An Qi nodded repeatedly.
“I know which building it is. Sit tight.” The moment Fatty finished speaking, he slammed on the accelerator. With a bang, the small truck smashed through the warning barrier at the hospital’s south gate, and an alarm immediately rang out.
However, by then, the small truck had already slipped into a narrow path that was barely wide enough for it alone to pass through. In the end, it stopped in a small open space beneath the shadow of a tall building.
“Back in the day, your Fat Grandpa grew up playing here bare-assed!” Fatty smugly patted his belly. Then he turned to look at Mu Xiao and the others, and his face drooped again. He waved his hand. “Hurry up and get out. Remember to get those four people in the back out too! Right now, most of the nearby zombies have probably been attracted to the security booth. If you find the person and come down but don’t see me here, head toward the north gate. There’s a square there. During the day, there normally aren’t many people, and the place is open, so there shouldn’t be many zombies either!”
“You’ll wait for us?” Mu Xiao’s eyes lit up. To be honest, she really could not bear to part with this small truck.
Fatty looked somewhat impatient. “Didn’t I promise the little brat earlier? But let me say this first. It’s just past four right now. I’ll only wait until nine!”
Seeing Fatty deliberately pretending to be fierce and cold-blooded, Mu Xiao grinned. “Thanks in advance. We’ll come down and meet up as soon as possible!” As she spoke, Mu Xiao reached out to open the door.
When the small truck had driven in, they had already observed this road. There were no zombies nearby, so it should be safe.
“Hey, wait. I’m telling you, don’t forget those four people!” Fatty reminded her again and again. If Mu Xiao and An Qi at least had the friendship of spending some time with him in the little shop, then those four people were truly complete strangers. If one really counted it, Fatty had helped them out.
Mu Xiao responded, then called An Qi and Ling Qi to get out of the truck with her and walked around to the back.
When the door opened, what she saw were the confused gazes of the four people inside. Perhaps because Fatty’s driving had been so fierce earlier, their complexions did not look very good.
“This truck belongs to Fatty. He’s only taking us this far. The zombies have already been shaken off, so you can get down now.” Mu Xiao simply stated two unrelated facts. Her meaning was very clear: it was time for them to get out.
“Where is this?” The first to speak was the girl among them. She was probably still shaken and sat on Fatty’s bedding, unwilling to move, merely glancing outside twice.
“The hospital.” Mu Xiao frowned and looked at the boy who seemed the best at reading the room out of the four—the same one named Kang Kai who had spoken to her earlier.
Sure enough, Kang Kai very consciously jumped out of the truck and called to his companions, “Let’s get down. It’s thanks to them that we got a ride. This is the hospital, so we can look around for medicine for Lu Wei.”
It seemed Kang Kai had some say among the group of four. Seeing him speak, the girl pouted, but still obediently got down.
The injured boy—judging from Kang Kai’s words, he should be called Lu Wei—got down while holding Kang Kai’s shoulder. With a pale face, he smiled at Mu Xiao. “Thank you.”
He looked somewhat shy, which really did not match his name.
“No need.” Mu Xiao glanced into the cargo compartment. Seeing that nothing seemed to be missing, she locked the cargo door again. “Do as you like. We’ll go first.”
“Eh, Senior Mu Xiao, where are you going?” Kang Kai hurriedly stepped forward and spoke. He actually recognized Mu Xiao.
Mu Xiao froze and turned to look at Kang Kai as if she were looking at an alien. “You know me?”
Kang Kai scratched his head embarrassedly. “Half a year ago, Senior gave a speech at school. I went to listen. I really admire you.”
…As expected, the original owner was an impressive person. This was Mu Xiao’s only thought.
As for this junior in front of her who seemed to be an admirer, Mu Xiao merely waved her hand. “In this apocalypse, everything starts over from scratch.”
Time was limited, and Mu Xiao did not want to say much more to them. Holding An Qi’s hand, she walked toward the small door Fatty had pointed out.
Of course, she also looked at Ling Qi. Seeing Ling Qi quickly follow, she did not say anything more.
The small door, like the front entrance, was a glass automatic door. As soon as Mu Xiao walked up to it, the door opened automatically. It seemed the power had not been cut off yet.
Behind the door was an empty corridor. It looked like an employee passage, and there were no zombies.
The floor was smooth marble. Mu Xiao and the others were wearing sneakers, so their footsteps did not make much sound when they stepped on it. But after they had only walked a few steps, the corridor echoed with the tap-tap of footsteps.
Mu Xiao stopped and turned to look at the four people following behind them. “Why are you following us?”
Kang Kai revealed a smile. “We want to find some medicine. It’s on the way!”
“…” Mu Xiao had no way to refute that for the moment. She could only glance at the boy wearing a pair of shiny black leather shoes. “Step more lightly.”
After saying that, she turned and continued forward.
“Tch, it’s not like this hospital belongs to her family,” the girl behind them muttered unhappily. Because the surroundings were quiet and the corridor echoed, her voice was especially obvious.
“Du Juan, what she said isn’t wrong. Zombies can hear sounds.” Kang Kai’s voice of persuasion followed immediately after. As he spoke, he also looked worriedly toward the two adults and one child in front of them. It seemed he was unwilling to come into conflict with Mu Xiao and the others.
The corridor was not long. Before long, they reached the end.
Turning left, they saw five elevator doors at the far end, three on the left and two on the right. Past the elevator doors, closer to the direction they were in, was another turn. Mu Xiao guessed that was probably the first-floor lobby of this building.
Between the elevators on both sides were two double doors. A sign hung above them, marking it as the stairwell.
That was exactly the route Mu Xiao was looking for. Since they did not know An Qi’s mother’s exact location, naturally, they had to start searching from the “fifth floor” where An Qi remembered her mother worked.
“I remember this place. Turn right again and it’s the lobby. There’s a pharmacy counter on the first floor!” Just as Mu Xiao took in all this information, an excited shout came from behind.
Watching several zombies immediately sway out from around the corner, Mu Xiao took a tennis racket from her back. There was only one thought in her mind.
This damn demonic voice piercing her ears!
