Chapter 30 – Don’t Bother Me, I’m Sleepy
Leng Yan took a moment to recover. After getting out of the car, she stretched lazily.
“Not having to drive myself really is comfortable~”
He Yinshao followed her into the villa.
The person in front of her suddenly turned around.
“He Yinshao, why don’t you go take a nap?”
“Why?”
“No reason. I told you to sleep, so go sleep.” Leng Yan sounded fierce, but to He Yinshao, she wasn’t intimidating at all.
“Then I want to sleep on the living room sofa.”
“Are you sick?” Leng Yan’s eyes widened in shock. “There’s a bed on the third floor and you refuse to sleep on it, but insist on sleeping on the living room sofa?”
He Yinshao tilted her head. “I like sleeping on the living room sofa.”
“He Yinshao, actually, there’s something I’ve been wondering for a while.” Leng Yan raised a hand and touched He Yinshao’s forehead.
He Yinshao’s ears betrayed her again and turned red.
“What?”
“I didn’t abuse you into developing some kind of mental illness, did I?”
“…”
Leng Yan genuinely suspected He Yinshao might have Stockholm syndrome.
Otherwise, why would she refuse to live in the house Leng Yan bought her and insist on staying in Leng Yan’s home instead?
“Leng Yan.” The redness in He Yinshao’s ears instantly cooled after hearing that question, returning to normal. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine?”
“…”
He Yinshao laughed speechlessly.
“Hurry up and go sleep! Go!”
“Got it…” He Yinshao helplessly went upstairs.
A while later, Leng Yan looked up and discovered that this woman was leaning over the third-floor railing, staring at her!
“He Yinshao, am I really that good-looking?” Leng Yan looked up toward the third floor. “Why do you keep staring at me?”
“I’m bored. Just looking around.” After saying that, He Yinshao returned to her room.
Her hurried footsteps never reached Leng Yan’s ears.
Around three in the afternoon, the doorbell rang outside the villa.
Leng Yan went to open the door and found Luo Jibai standing outside in a custom-made outfit.
“Luo Jibai, you’re here?”
“Mm.”
Leng Yan stepped aside. “Come in. We’ll talk inside.”
“Okay.”
The moment Luo Jibai entered, she kept glancing around but didn’t see anyone.
“Yanyan, are you living with He Yinshao?”
“Uh… yeah, I guess?” Leng Yan herself didn’t know how to explain it.
Luo Jibai frowned slightly, looking puzzled.
“Ahem. You said you had something to talk to me about?” Leng Yan remembered what Luo Jibai had said over the phone and changed the subject.
“Oh, right. Uncle Leng wants me to intern at your company as your assistant.”
“I already have an assistant. There’s no need to—”
“Yanyan, Uncle Leng arranged it. He said this way, I can learn more from you.”
Leng Yan fell silent.
Of course she knew what her father meant.
He wanted her to marry Luo Jibai so their position among the upper class would become even more firmly rooted. Having Luo Jibai work as her assistant would make it easier for her to stay close and cultivate feelings with her.
Even if Leng Yan called him now, she probably wouldn’t be able to change anything.
After all, her father still held thirty percent of the company shares.
That was enough to threaten her position.
Thinking of this, Leng Yan sighed.
“Did he say how long you’d be working as my assistant?”
“No.”
“Got it. Then come to my company tomorrow. Be there at eight-thirty in the morning. Don’t be late.”
“Okay. Should I bring you breakfast?”
“No need. The housekeeper will be back tomorrow. I’ll eat at home.”
“Okay.”
The disappointment in Luo Jibai’s expression was hidden beneath the shadows cast by her eyelashes.
“Luo Jibai, I’m going to sleep. Why don’t you head back first?” Leng Yan stood up with a slight headache and looked down at the woman sitting on the sofa.
“Alright. Yanyan, get some rest. And…” Luo Jibai walked closer to Leng Yan and adjusted the collar of her shirt.
When she raised her eyes to look at Leng Yan, they were filled with affection.
“I won’t give up.”
What neither of them knew was that on the third floor, someone stood with both hands braced against the railing, enjoying a perfect bird’s-eye view of everything.
He Yinshao watched the scene, her fists gradually tightening.
What an eyesore.
After seeing Luo Jibai off, Leng Yan returned to her room feeling groggy.
“My head hurts so much…”
“Where are my other bathrobes?”
Her bathrobes had piled up. Since there had been no one home these past two days, none of her pajamas had been washed either.
She had no choice but to change into a wine-red silk shirt to sleep.
Leng Yan took a hot shower and put on the wine-red shirt.
Her cheeks, chin, collarbones, joints, knuckles…
All of them were flushed pink.
It was obvious the water she had just used had been very hot.
At eight that evening, He Yinshao, who had already been waiting downstairs for a long time, finally became suspicious.
After hesitating repeatedly, she went up to the second floor.
Knock, knock—
Knock, knock—
“Leng Yan?” He Yinshao placed a hand on the doorknob, sounding worried. “I’m coming in?”
She slowly turned the handle.
The curtains were drawn, leaving the room completely dark.
There was a rising and falling figure on the bed, and her breathing seemed somewhat rapid…
“Leng Yan?”
He Yinshao approached and touched her hand.
“Burning hot…”
She placed a hand over Leng Yan’s forehead.
Fine beads of sweat covered it, and it was scorching.
He Yinshao gritted her teeth.
“Damn it. When did you get a fever?”
He Yinshao tugged on Leng Yan’s hand.
“Leng Yan? Leng Yan? Get up. Come with me to the hospital.”
“Mm…?” Leng Yan wasn’t fully conscious. She waved a hand. “Don’t bother me. I’m sleepy.”
“Get up. You can’t sleep right now.” He Yinshao’s tone became a little stern.
To Leng Yan, it sounded like she was being scolded.
Leng Yan lifted her head.
The darkness did an excellent job of hiding her tears.
She grabbed the arm He Yinshao was using to hold her hand and bit down.
“Hiss! No, you—” He Yinshao had been about to scold her, but then she realized her sleeve felt slightly damp.
Her tongue immediately tangled.
“You… you’re crying…”
“I’m not crying.”
Leng Yan’s voice didn’t sound particularly emotional, but the dampness on He Yinshao’s sleeve was undeniable.
“I’m sorry…” He Yinshao touched her damp sleeve and silently sighed.
She gently patted Leng Yan’s back as the woman turned away from her.
“My tone wasn’t good just now. You have a fever. Let’s go to the hospital, okay?”
“Yanyan, okay?”
“Call a doctor.”
“Mm?”
“Call the family doctor. I don’t want to go out. It’s cold.”
He Yinshao touched Leng Yan’s burning-hot body and knew she only felt cold because of the fever, so she agreed.
She picked up Leng Yan’s phone.
“The password is…”
“Huh? There’s no password?”
But the situation was urgent, so she didn’t think much about it.
She opened Leng Yan’s contacts and called her family doctor.
Forty minutes later, the doctor hurried over carrying a medical kit.
Only then did He Yinshao turn on the lights and let the doctor examine Leng Yan.
The doctor placed a stethoscope against Leng Yan’s chest.
“Doctor…”
“Mm?”
“Please try to be quick… she… she’s cold.”
“Alright, I understand.”
A few minutes later, the doctor started Leng Yan on an IV drip and reminded He Yinshao,
“It’s caused by overexertion. Her health isn’t good to begin with, yet she’s still staying up all night. She’s so young and already neglecting her body. Try not to let her overwork herself these next few days.”
“Okay. Thank you, Doctor. Goodbye.”
