Chapter 26 – Your Uncle Luo’s Daughter Has Returned to China
After He Yinshao returned home, she received a message saying she had passed the audition.
She put her phone back into her bag and smiled.
Director Bai really couldn’t hide his thoughts at all. He had clearly told her with a cold expression to go home and wait for the result, yet the message had arrived this quickly.
Looking at the ten million Leng Junhui had transferred to her, she tapped on her phone and typed:
“Thank you.”
Before going to film the variety show, she had used the one hundred thousand Leng Yan gave her to buy a laptop. Now that the money had arrived, she immediately dumped the entire ten million into the stock market.
.
Meanwhile, Leng Yan had just woken up.
She lay lazily on the bed while reading a message from Director Zhang saying that filming for the variety show would resume the week after next.
Leng Yan typed one-handed on her phone.
“Got it.”
After sending the message, she put her phone down.
Her newly awakened mind gradually cleared, and only then did she remember that He Yinshao had both gone to audition for a drama and borrowed money.
She rolled over. Her pajamas were already loose, and because of the movement, one shoulder slipped into view.
“What’s going on…?”
She called her assistant.
“Did you transfer money to He Yinshao this month?”
“Yes.” Her assistant’s respectful voice came through the phone.
Since the assistant was one of the original host’s trusted subordinates, she probably wouldn’t forget something like that.
“Alright. Nothing else.” Leng Yan tossed her phone aside.
Whatever.
She had given the money to Leng Junhui that morning. He definitely would have passed it on to He Yinshao.
“President Leng…”
“Mm? Is there something else?” Leng Yan waited a few seconds, but the person on the other end didn’t speak. She urged, “Just say it.”
“The chairman came by earlier.”
A bad feeling immediately rose in Leng Yan’s heart.
“Did he say anything?”
“He asked you to come home for dinner tonight,” her assistant replied succinctly.
Heh.
It was probably far more than just dinner…
“Alright, got it.” Leng Yan stared blankly at the ceiling. “If there’s nothing else, hang up.”
“Understood.”
Leng Yan carefully recalled the plot.
A moment later, she remembered.
Her father had always known about the original host’s sexual orientation and had deliberately tried to match her with Luo Jibai.
Luo Jibai was the eldest daughter of the Luo family. She and Leng Yan were well-matched in family background, and their elders were close friends.
Besides…
Luo Jibai had liked Leng Yan since childhood.
She had only gone abroad to study later.
Judging from the timing, she had probably returned to China now.
“So it really is a Hongmen Banquet…” Leng Yan got up and changed clothes.
She put on a flamboyant wine-red dress, applied heavy makeup, and then left for her father’s home.
An hour later.
“Master!”
“What could possibly have you panicking like this?” Father Leng was still busy sending off his young mistress. “You leave first. Don’t stay here tonight.”
“Mm~ I don’t want to~” The woman’s affected voice sounded out as her body wriggled restlessly.
“Master… Miss, she…”
“If Auntie Song is feeling itchy, she can go take a shower. There are plenty of bathrooms in this house.”
Leng Yan walked out from behind the housekeeper and coldly looked at the original host’s father.
“Father invited me here tonight, yet you still haven’t properly managed your pet. Isn’t that a little rude?”
“Who are you calling—”
“Enough.” Father Leng flung Auntie Song’s hand away. “Get out.”
The so-called Auntie Song left furiously, her expression visibly darkening.
Leng Yan knew very well that her father had only managed to climb so high and accumulate so much wealth because of the original host’s abilities.
So within certain limits, he was actually quite afraid of the original host.
Unfortunately for him, Leng Yan was even more capable than she had been.
“Xiao Yan, you came back so quickly? Your mother hasn’t returned yet…”
“Oh. That has nothing to do with me.” Leng Yan looked around.
Sure enough, the dining table was covered with an extravagant dinner.
A trace of amusement flashed across her lips as she deliberately asked, “Our family needs this many dishes for one meal?”
“No, no, you child…” Father Leng smiled awkwardly. “Your Uncle Luo’s daughter has returned to China. Have you forgotten? You used to play with her when you were young.”
“I don’t remember.” Leng Yan waved a hand, impatience written all over her face.
Father Leng was just about to say something else when Uncle Luo’s voice came from outside.
“Xiao Yan?!! Long time no see.”
“Aiya, Brother Luo, you’re here!” Father Leng hurried forward to welcome him. “Why did you come so early too?”
“Hahaha, all because of this daughter of mine. The moment she got back today, she insisted on coming here before she’d even unpacked her luggage.”
Although Uncle Luo was speaking to Father Leng, his eyes were fixed on Leng Yan, filled with approval.
“Ahem, Dad.” Luo Jibai stood beside him and complained somewhat awkwardly.
Then she walked over to Leng Yan, the emotions in her gaze impossible to conceal.
“Yanyan, long time no see.”
Leng Yan looked the woman in front of her over.
Her facial features were striking, her bone structure excellent, and she appeared to be mixed-race. She was the cool, aloof type of beauty.
Leng Yan smiled politely.
“Long time no see. I don’t even remember what you looked like.”
“Uh… Yanyan…” Disappointment flickered in Luo Jibai’s eyes.
Originally, she had planned to slowly get reacquainted with Leng Yan.
But Time Travel Journal had unexpectedly become popular recently, and the “Yan Mian He Cun” CP had even appeared on the show.
Luo Jibai had panicked a little.
That was why she had come to see Leng Yan today.
“When are we eating? I’m hungry.” Leng Yan clasped her hands behind her back. Her red dress swayed slightly, making her look especially captivating.
“Yanyan, let’s eat first…” Luo Jibai reached out, intending to take Leng Yan’s hand, but Leng Yan moved away before she could.
“Ah, right, right. Let the children eat first.” Only then did Father Leng realize something was off. He decided not to wait for Mother Leng anymore and led Brother Luo to the table.
At the dining table, Leng Yan didn’t say a word.
She slowly chewed her food.
Luo Jibai, seated beside her, wanted to put some food into her bowl, but when she saw Leng Yan quietly move her bowl a little farther away, she gave up on the idea.
Uncle Luo chatted with Father Leng from the side.
“Congratulations, Brother Leng. Your daughter has grown into such a graceful young woman, and she’s remarkably talented in business too.”
“Not at all, not at all. Brother Luo’s daughter has just returned to China. I’m sure she’ll lead your businesses to even greater prosperity…”
“Hahaha… Brother Leng, you flatter us. Actually, there’s something we came here today to ask of you.”
“What are you saying?! Between you and me, there’s no need for the word ‘ask’!” Father Leng’s expression became serious. “Brother, just say it. If it’s something I can do, I’ll definitely help.”
Uncle Luo beat his chest and sighed.
“Brother Leng, you know that Xiao Luo’s mother died from complications while giving birth to her. I worked so hard to raise her to this age, and all I want is for her to live happily, safely, and peacefully. She’s liked Xiao Yan since she was little, and the moment she returned to China, she came here to find her… So, about the two of them…”
The moment those words fell, Leng Yan abruptly raised her head and stared at Uncle Luo, shock flashing in her eyes.
They were already bringing up marriage this quickly?!!
“This…” Even Father Leng hadn’t expected the other man to be so direct and hesitated.
Luo Jibai watched Leng Yan’s shocked expression. Her blue eyes lowered, bitterness showing faintly as her lips parted.
In the end, she said nothing.
She only looked at Leng Yan.
