A Fishing-Type Omega Always Wants to Possess Me - Chapter 3
The moment the words left her mouth, it seemed as though no one had immediately processed what Yu Mianzhou had just said.
The entire living room fell into complete silence once again.
Gu Wanlan once more felt this suffocating atmosphere.
Ever since this girl named Yu Mianzhou returned, the Jiang family’s mood had shifted dramatically in just one day.
Why?
Was she really just an ordinary stepdaughter?
Gu Wanlan subconsciously wanted to ask Jiang Zhi beside her, but she noticed the study door was wide open. Jiang Zhi was sitting at the desk, peeling an orange.
Her movements were excruciatingly slow. The sharp, cold knife glinted with a chilling light as the blade suddenly plunged straight into the fruit. Orange-yellow juice splashed all over her hand.
Yet she kept her head lowered, her expression hidden in shadow, impossible to read clearly.
Gu Wanlan’s heart suddenly skipped a beat. The words that had reached her lips could no longer be spoken.
Downstairs, Yu Shu stood with her mouth open, unable to produce a single sound for a long time.
Once she recovered, she grabbed Yu Mianzhou’s hand, her voice trembling. “I-is it true?”
“It’s true.” Yu Mianzhou calmly met her gaze. “If you don’t believe me, I’ll bring her back tomorrow for you to see.”
This composure finally eased Yu Shu’s tension. She nodded repeatedly. “Good, good…”
Yu Mianzhou stood up again and looked toward Jiang Yingqiu on the second floor. Meeting her eyes, she spoke proactively.
“Is that okay, Aunt Jiang?”
Jiang Yingqiu lowered her gaze, studied her for a few seconds, and uttered a single indifferent word: “Fine.”
Yu Mianzhou smiled, stuffed the stack of documents back into Yu Shu’s hands, and turned to leave. “I’ll head upstairs first.”
Yu Shu didn’t stop her. Once back on the third floor, Yu Mianzhou’s gaze swept across the closed door of the music room directly opposite the corridor before she pushed open her own door and entered.
The next day, when Yu Mianzhou came downstairs, Gu Wanlan had just arrived to pick up Jiang Zhi. They were leaving again to continue selecting wedding dresses.
Only Yu Mianzhou and Yu Shu remained at home.
After breakfast, Yu Shu couldn’t hold back any longer and asked eagerly, “Mianzhou, when will your girlfriend arrive? When are you going to pick her up?”
She was clearly overly anxious.
These past few years, Yu Shu had not been living comfortably in the Jiang family.
Jiang Yingqiu had never officially married her, and Jiang Zhi’s maternal family firmly opposed Jiang Yingqiu remarrying, never giving Yu Shu any respect.
It could be said that aside from Jiang Yingqiu, no one in the Jiang family approved of her joining the family.
She lived in Shen Garden in this awkward, humiliating position, completely dependent on others. Fortunately, as a non-aggressive Omega who had always kept a low profile, she had managed to stay.
That was why she so desperately hoped her daughter would undergo secondary differentiation into an Alpha — to give her some weight in this household.
Yu Mianzhou understood her mother’s situation clearly.
But a few years ago, she had already refused to leave the Jiang family with her. Now, it was even less likely.
“I’ll go soon,” she replied unhurriedly, finishing her breakfast.
“Then hurry up!” Yu Shu smiled. “Remember to bring her back tonight for us to meet. You finally have a girlfriend — Mom is really happy for you.”
The relief in her tone was impossible to hide.
Yu Mianzhou nodded. “Alright.”
“Oh, right,” Yu Shu suddenly remembered something and took a card out of her bag, handing it to her. “Since Miss Gu personally invited you to the wedding, don’t be too stingy. Go buy a proper wedding gift. Show some generosity so people won’t look down on you.”
Yu Mianzhou had already decided what wedding gift to give and had no need for her mother’s card.
But if she said that, it would only lead to endless questioning.
She simply took the card and left the dining room.
She asked the butler for a car and drove to the airport.
The airport was crowded with people. Yu Mianzhou had been waiting at the exit for only a short while when a very eye-catching figure appeared.
The woman had bold, wavy red hair, wore sunglasses, and had striking red lips. Her sexy short dress paired with leg rings made her stand out sharply from the hurrying travelers around her.
She pushed her luggage cart straight toward Yu Mianzhou, removed her sunglasses, and revealed a bright, gorgeous face. It was Joyce.
“Hey, Elovin. Sorry to keep you waiting.” Joyce smiled charmingly and opened her arms, giving Yu Mianzhou a big hug. “You sneaked back to China without telling me. I still haven’t settled accounts with you yet.”
Yu Mianzhou patted her back and smiled. “There’ll be plenty of chances later. Let’s go.”
Once in the car, Joyce sat in the passenger seat and pulled a small box from her bag, handing it over. “Here, the thing you asked me to bring. It’s the latest model — better effect, fewer side effects. The doctor asked me to tell you there’s only six months’ worth here. You shouldn’t rely on this medicine long-term. You’d better find an Omega soon…”
The box contained several bottles of pills and a stack of suppressant patches.
Yu Mianzhou glanced at it and started the car. “Thank you.”
She had differentiated too late, and because her level was too high, her pheromones were extremely unstable and often on the verge of losing control.
The best doctors in Country Y had advised her: either find a compatible Omega to mark regularly and soothe herself in the most primitive way, or rely on these specially made, high-efficacy drugs.
Joyce looked around curiously. “Seriously, an Alpha of your grade could have any Omega you want with just a snap of your fingers. Why put yourself through this every month with those awful-smelling suppressant patches?”
She leaned over, her slender fingertips playfully lifting Yu Mianzhou’s chin with a coquettish expression. “Are you really not going to reconsider this sister of yours?”
They hit a red light. Yu Mianzhou rested one wrist on the steering wheel and leaned the other against the window, tapping her temple as she curved her lips. “Sorry, I have no interest in eating grass I’ve already left behind.”
Three years ago, after class one afternoon, Yu Mianzhou suddenly developed a high fever. On her way home, she could no longer hold on and collapsed weakly into the bushes by the roadside.
It wasn’t until the back of her neck burned like it was scorching her nerves and a sharp, cold mint scent flooded her nose that she finally realized — she had undergone secondary differentiation.
But by then it was too late. Not far away, two Omegas were already showing signs of losing control under the influence of her chaotic pheromones.
Country Y had very strict laws. If an Alpha failed to control their pheromones and caused an Omega to go into heat against their will, they would face massive fines or even imprisonment in serious cases.
The heat came too suddenly and violently. The mint scent grew thicker and more pervasive.
If this continued, she would cause significant trouble…
Yu Mianzhou desperately tried to cover the back of her neck, but it was useless.
Just as she grew anxious and helpless, Joyce’s face suddenly appeared before her eyes. “Need help?”
“Hospital…” After uttering that word, Yu Mianzhou could no longer hold on and fainted in the bushes.
The next day, when she woke up in the hospital, Joyce was still there. The first thing she said was, “I saved you. I also helped you clean up the mess from your pheromone outburst last night. As payment, you have to marry me.”
Yu Mianzhou: “…”
At the time, she thought she had run into a lunatic.
Later, when Joyce’s lawyer arrived, she learned that Joyce came from a prominent local family. She had a gravely ill grandmother, several covetous uncles and cousins, and a three-year-old daughter.
Before her grandmother passed away, she needed to get married so she would have a legal spouse and her daughter would have another mother. Only then could the mother and daughter claim a substantial inheritance.
Joyce was three years older than Yu Mianzhou, but with her round eyes, she looked like a beautiful, lovable young girl.
She sat by the hospital bed and had the lawyer hand over a very generous contract. “Don’t worry. Once I get the inheritance, we’ll divorce immediately. I’ll give you ten percent of my share.”
Yu Mianzhou hesitated for only a few seconds before signing the contract, but she refused the portion of the inheritance Joyce offered.
She had suspected whether Joyce was telling the truth, but her life was already a mess.
If it was fake, it wouldn’t get any worse. If it was real, it would be her way of repaying the favor.
And so, the two entered a flash marriage and flash divorce, and that was how they had known each other until now.
In Joyce’s eyes, her relationship with Yu Mianzhou had long surpassed friendship — they were practically family.
Seeing Yu Mianzhou reject her again, Joyce wasn’t upset. She sat up straight and laughed charmingly. “Don’t tell me after all these years, you’re still hung up on that white moonlight in your heart? I have to say, Elovin, that’s such a cliché plot straight out of a novel. Tell me, did you see her this time you came back?”
For so many years, Yu Mianzhou had hidden it so well that even Joyce didn’t know what her white moonlight looked like.
Yu Mianzhou didn’t answer and instead asked, “What about Lina? Didn’t she come back with you?”
Joyce knew she would change the subject.
Mentioning her daughter softened her expression. “She’ll come a bit later. There are still some procedures to handle in Country Y.”
Lina was the daughter Joyce had with her first love.
That Alpha had disappeared without a trace after she got pregnant, abandoning them. Lina had grown up without a father.
Thankfully, Yu Mianzhou had been there.
“Now that I’m here, I’m ready to work like a horse for you. But if the salary at your new company is too low, this young lady won’t be happy,” Joyce said, perking up again.
Yu Mianzhou had majored in computer science and artificial intelligence abroad. Upon graduation, she had received offers from the world’s top companies, and even her mentor had personally tried to keep her. Yet she rejected all of them and started her own tech company focused on AI development.
The company had already taken shape domestically and attracted considerable investment.
“Don’t worry. Lenn and the others have everything prepared. You won’t go hungry,” Yu Mianzhou said.
The car passed through a bustling commercial district. On a huge electronic screen at the intersection, a promotional video was playing.
“Stop stop stop!” Joyce suddenly grabbed Yu Mianzhou’s wrist, her eyes sparkling. “Jiang Zhi! It’s Jiang Zhi!”
The moment that name was spoken, Yu Mianzhou’s foot pressed down hard.
Even the high-performance Bentley couldn’t handle the sudden brake. The tires screeched sharply against the road — “Screeech!”
Her head hit the headrest. She frowned. “You know her?”
Joyce’s eyes shone as she pointed at the woman on the large screen outside the window. “Of course I know her! That’s Jiang Zhi! Isn’t she the principal cellist of your country’s Qingye Orchestra?”
“She started learning the cello at five, performed independent suites at eight, entered a top university at twelve, became principal at eighteen, won countless awards, and is called the ‘Lonely Moon Immortal’ who walked out of classical music by her fans…”
As Joyce rattled off the details like a treasured list, Yu Mianzhou finally turned to look out the window—
The woman on the screen wore a performance gown, sitting before a cello. Her fingertips danced across the strings. Her cool temperament and focused expression resembled the first snow arriving in Jiangnan.
It was impossible to look away.
Only when the traffic light turned green again did Yu Mianzhou calmly retract her gaze. “I didn’t know you followed these things.”
“It’s all because Lina has been learning an instrument recently. I started learning with her, and then I saw Jiang Zhi’s performance and completely fell in love with this woman!”
Joyce was extremely excited. “Oh my god, I actually saw Jiang Zhi here! This mall has great taste. Darling, I’m hungry. Let’s go eat inside!”
Previously, when Jiang Zhi held a solo concert in Country Y, Joyce had used all her money and influence but still failed to get tickets. It had become one of her obsessions.
Yu Mianzhou remembered that the logo on the top floor of this mall belonged to the Jiang family.
She frowned. “Can we go somewhere else?”
“No! This one!”
Joyce’s eyes turned red in an instant. She bit her lower lip, looking like she was about to throw a tantrum. “I want to go! If you don’t take me, I’ll buy ten hamburgers right now and eat myself to death!”
“Don’t think I can’t tell you just want to secretly reward yourself.” Yu Mianzhou sighed helplessly. “You’re already the mother of a six-year-old. How childish can you be?”
“I like it that way.”
In the end, Yu Mianzhou couldn’t win against her and drove the car into the underground parking garage.
They took the elevator to the first floor. To let Joyce admire the giant screen featuring Jiang Zhi’s beauty up close, they switched to the escalator.
As soon as they reached the second floor, they saw a group of black-clad female bodyguards standing outside a high-end custom wedding dress store not far away.
Catching sight of a familiar figure, Yu Mianzhou’s steps halted.
Through the huge glass display window, she saw Jiang Zhi standing in front of the mirror at first glance.
She was wearing a simple, pure white wedding dress. There were no complicated laces or diamonds — only the finest satin that beautifully outlined her slender waist.
A long veil cascaded to the floor, as if coating her in a soft glow, making her entire being radiate.
Like a goddess descending to earth.
Yu Mianzhou’s memories were effortlessly and without warning pulled back to that summer night after high school graduation.
The air was hot and stuffy. Jiang Zhi, drenched in sweat, lay in her arms, panting as she pressed close to her ear and whispered, “If I ever marry the person I like in the future, I definitely want to wear a pure white wedding dress.”
Now, everything had indeed gone as she wished.
Yu Mianzhou withdrew her gaze and turned to leave.
“Isn’t that… Jiang Zhi?!”
Before she could take a step, Joyce beside her had already lit up with excitement and let out a delighted low cry.
Yu Mianzhou’s heart jumped. She had no time to stop her.
Joyce had already excitedly rushed toward the wedding dress store.
