A Scummy Alpha Supporting Character Accidentally Marks the Heroine After Transmigrating into a Book (GL) - Chapter 27
“Reason? You don’t need to know.”
“You’re overstepping, Chairman Yan.”
Yan Nanjue frowned with displeasure. “Who I marry is my freedom. I don’t care whether you’re satisfied with my spouse or not.”
“She is my Mrs. Yan, not yours.”
Yan Changqing chuckled with interest. “She is yours, of course.”
“I’m just curious. I chose so many alliance candidates for you back then. For instance, the eldest daughter of the Luo family—she’s your age, a well-educated and polite girl. I was satisfied, but you didn’t like her. I originally thought you liked her younger sister, the girl a few years younger than you. Even though she’s a Beta, you grew up together and she’s deeply devoted to you, yet you treat her like a sister.”
Yan Changqing continued, “With so many socialites, you didn’t fancy a single one. Instead, you picked someone like this without saying a word.”
Yan Nanjue retorted, her voice filled with clear loathing, “What kind of person?”
“Yan Changqing, I’m not a child for you to manipulate anymore. I won’t marry the person you favor.”
She spoke word for word, her attitude domineering, “Bai Wan is my property. What she is like is for me alone to judge.”
Yan Changqing let out a light laugh. “When did my daughter become such a person of sentiment and loyalty? —Don’t tell me you married her because you like her.”
“Wasn’t this marriage contract something you forcibly pushed through? You didn’t consider the other person’s thoughts when you married, yet now you’re defending her in front of me as if I’m some wicked mother-in-law who mistreats her daughter’s wife.”
Yan Nanjue was about to say more when a knock sounded.
The person who pushed the door open was Bai Wan.
Yan Changqing stopped her playful words, leaned back, and crossed her arms, unabashedly scrutinizing the Omega who entered. Aside from a face so beautiful it was impossible to ignore, there was nothing special about her. Yan Changqing was truly puzzled; there were many beautiful Omegas, and if one looked hard enough, they could find others like her. Why did it have to be Bai Wan?
Bai Wan lowered her eyes slightly, letting the scrutinizing gaze fall upon her. She called out “Mother” in a flat, emotionless tone.
Yan Changqing neither nodded nor shook her head. “Since you’re here, sit down.”
After Bai Wan took her seat, she threw out the first question: “Que tells me you’re an orphan?”
Yan Nanjue suddenly felt a sense of suffocation. She knew it!
Just as she was about to interrupt her mother’s blunt words, she saw Bai Wan nod impassively. “Yes. My adoptive parents passed away a few years ago.”
“If you dislike that I’m an orphan, I have no way to bring them back to life.”
Yan Changqing narrowed her eyes slightly.
Yan Nanjue felt a cold sweat breaking out on her back, but Yan Changqing only took a sip of red wine and wasn’t provoked by Bai Wan’s answer. She proceeded to ask a few routine questions, acting like an ordinary elder. Bai Wan cooperated and answered them all.
It was as if the previous conflict had never existed.
Yan Nanjue glanced at Yan Changqing and stole a look at Bai Wan, realizing the only person on the table with agitated emotions was herself.
【System: Yan Changqing won’t let her emotions show easily. The heroine won’t waste emotions on someone she doesn’t care about.】
Sitting on pins and needles, Yan Nanjue frowned and feigned impatience, interrupting her mother. “Am I here to eat or to listen to you ask questions?”
Yan Changqing looked at her daughter. “True. Let’s eat.”
The rest of the meal was quiet. Just as it was finishing, Yan Nanjue almost breathed a sigh of relief, only to see her mother put down her napkin and suddenly ask: “Xiao Wan.”
“Speaking of which, how did you and Que get together?”
The peace that had been maintained throughout the meal shattered instantly. Yan Nanjue’s heart leapt into her throat.
Bai Wan looked up, her cold gaze falling from beneath her long lashes. Her lips moved as she answered the person before her, but her gaze was fixed on the person beside her.
Yan Nanjue felt her scalp tingle under that gaze, as if a handful of fine snow had fallen down her collar, slowly melting. A biting chill climbed up her spine. She forced herself to remain calm and met Bai Wan’s gaze, her eyes telling her: Don’t say what shouldn’t be said.
Bai Wan spoke.
“—She did me a very big favor. A favor so large that I must repay it with my life.”
Yan Changqing rubbed the handle of her steak knife, her gaze moving between the two. “Then it is destiny.”
She didn’t ask further and ended the dinner.
Outside the parking lot, after dismissing Bai Wan, Yan Changqing said flatly: “You can’t control her.”
She offered a sharp evaluation, “She is no ordinary creature. She harbors hatred for you; sooner or later, she will cause trouble.”
In the car not far from them, Bai Wan’s silhouette was vaguely visible. Though she couldn’t see clearly, Yan Nanjue was certain Bai Wan was looking their way.
“Divorce her as soon as possible,” Yan Changqing said.
Yan Nanjue looked angry. “You’re meddling too much, Chairman Yan.”
The restaurant was by a lake. After dark, the surface was illuminated by countless neon lights. As the wind blew along the shore, Yan Changqing turned her back to the wind and looked directly at her daughter.
Yan Nanjue’s dark hair was messy from the wind. Her eyes were sharp, her red lips pressed into a line; she was clearly a heartless person, yet she possessed a face of great sentiment. The neon light fell along the bridge of her high nose; half of her face was in shadow, the other half in brilliant, shimmering light.
“Que, you have no heart. She does.”
Yan Changqing’s tone was flat as she repeated her earlier words, “You aren’t suited. She hates you deeply; divorce is the best option.”
Yan Nanjue’s face turned cold. “What I do is none of your business.” She threw down those words and headed for the black car.
Behind her, Yan Changqing’s eyes flickered with a trace of helplessness. She pinched the bridge of her nose, appearing as if she had no way to deal with her rebellious daughter. She murmured, “Who did she learn this foul temper from…” She chuckled softly. “She inherited it from me.”
Yan Changqing retracted her smile, intending to stop interfering. She was essentially a cold person herself; perhaps it was the mystery of bloodline, but the mother and daughter’s personalities were almost identical. Since the person involved was unwilling, it was no longer her concern.
Ultimately, Bai Wan’s hatred for Yan Nanjue wouldn’t threaten the Yan family. She was just an orphan with a tragic background, after all.
In the second week after Yan Changqing’s return, news came from the ancestral home: she had broken the limbs of those who embezzled funds and sent them to a mental asylum. Their families didn’t fare well either.
Yan Nanjue gasped, thinking: Yan Changqing’s methods are truly ruthless.
【System: What are you thinking?】
Yan Nanjue explained. She suddenly realized the plot was familiar. The original host in the book also broke the heroine’s legs later on…
【The methods of this mother and daughter are quite similar.】
It was the day of Luo Shuqing’s birthday. She wasn’t having a grand event, only a party at home for friends.
Yan Nanjue sat in the car, glancing at Bai Wan sitting opposite her. The original host always brought Bai Wan to banquets or gatherings—not because of affection, but like a master bringing a pet, placing an invisible collar around her neck. Everyone in the circle knew Bai Wan could be humiliated at will.
Yan Nanjue couldn’t flip the views of these socialites overnight, so she could only use a cold attitude to warn them: the Mrs. Yan of the Yan family was not someone they could insult.
The car stopped. Luo Shuqing was already waiting at the door. She seemed to be in the middle of getting ready; her hair was styled with light blue gradients and laser ribbons, but she hadn’t changed into her dress yet.
Seeing Yan Nanjue, her eyes lit up. She ran toward her but stopped herself, restraining her movements. “Sister Nanjue!”
Yan Nanjue nodded slightly. Luo Shuqing smiled and drew closer, staying at a safe distance. “Let’s go in. Ziyi and the others are already here.” She looked at Bai Wan, her smile unchanged. “Sister Bai Wan, I’m glad you could come too.”
“Is this your first time at my house? Your first time at my birthday party?” Luo Shuqing continued as they walked inside. “I wanted to invite you the last few years, but you were always busy. It’s good that you’ve finally come.”
Yan Nanjue fell back half a step, subtly switching from walking beside Luo Shuqing to walking beside Bai Wan.
The living room was full of people. Ji Ziyi was playing video games, and Chen Wanjun was sitting on a sofa scrolling through her phone. The table was piled with gifts.
Luo Shuqing looked at Yan Nanjue with anticipation. “Sister Nanjue, what did you prepare for my birthday?”
Bai Wan handed the gift she was carrying to her. Luo Shuqing’s hand paused for a moment. “Oh, it was with Sister Bai Wan.” She took it and placed it in the most prominent spot. “Is it a surprise? I’m so excited! I love anything you give me. I’ll open it after the cake!”
Yan Nanjue stole a look at Bai Wan. The gift was prepared by Assistant Lin; she didn’t know what it was either.
“Game Over” flashed on the TV. Ji Ziyi put down her controller. “Why aren’t you curious about what I gave you?”
Chen Wanjun found it hilarious. Luo Shuqing rolled her eyes. “Your gifts are always the same. Even the new ones have probably been given to your girlfriends already.”
“The gift isn’t what matters,” Ji Ziyi rubbed her nose, “it’s the thought.”
Luo Shuqing went upstairs to change. Yan Nanjue sat beside Ji Ziyi, and Bai Wan sat a foot away from her. Chen Wanjun handed over a controller. “Wanna play a few rounds?”
Yan Nanjue was eager to try. Chen Wanjun asked, “Does Bai Wan play? There’s a 2v2 random match mode. The four of us are a perfect set; I’ll be on Ji’s team.”
Bai Wan declined. “I don’t know how to play console games.”
Chen Wanjun placed the controller on Yan Nanjue’s lap. “Let A-Yan teach you. It’s not hard to pick up.”
Yan Nanjue felt the controller become a hot potato. She turned and met Bai Wan’s gaze. Those amber eyes were calm, like flowing honey—pure and untainted.
…I’m teaching the heroine?
【System: Yes. Chen Wanjun’s attitude toward a friend’s wife depends on the friend. She knows your current attitude toward the heroine, so she’s helping her out. It won’t cause an OOC violation.】
Yan Nanjue relaxed and tossed the controller into Bai Wan’s lap. “Don’t be a killjoy. Just accept it.”
She leaned in, her fingertips pointing at the buttons. Her voice was slightly lowered, carrying a magnetic quality. “This is for direction and control… You’re my teammate. Ziyi and Wanjun are veterans; you don’t need to fight them head-on.”
Bai Wan’s gaze was fixed on her fingertips. Teammate? —Not property at her disposal?
Yan Nanjue explained the mechanics as best she could. “I see,” Bai Wan said.
Ji Ziyi charged back into the game. “I won’t go easy! There’s no sympathy in competition!”
Less than twenty minutes later, Ji Ziyi was being chased across the screen like a stray dog. She stared in disbelief. “Is Bai Wan… really playing for the first time?”
Yan Nanjue was also surprised. “Have you played this before?”
Bai Wan remained calm, her hands never stopping. She didn’t answer. Only her character and Chen Wanjun’s remained. She narrowly dodged Wanjun’s ultimate; the two fought to a standstill.
Ji Ziyi tossed her controller in frustration. “Bai Wan is a hidden master. I thought Wanjun was scary enough, but Bai Wan is too.”
A crowd had gathered. Yan Nanjue stole a few looks at Bai Wan. Warm sunlight fell on Bai Wan’s porcelain cheek, making it glow like honey. Laser lights from the party setup swept across her eyes, reflecting the vibrant game characters. In that mix of light, nothing was as radiant as she was.
