A Vicious Scum Alpha in a Heartthrob Novel - Chapter 14
Xu Qingshui was entirely unaware of Fu Jinghua’s internal monologue, but as Fu Jinghua climbed into bed, her eyelashes flickered and she opened her eyes.
Her sleep quality was mediocre at best, and having napped in the car, she wasn’t particularly tired. Fu Jinghua’s rose scent surrounded her, permeating every sense. The Omega’s pheromones stirred an inexplicable stir of emotion in Xu Qingshui’s heart. She craved Fu Jinghua—or more accurately, she felt a deep urge to hold her, just like that night when Fu Jinghua had unconsciously burrowed into her arms. It was a pull rooted in pheromonal induction.
Behind her, Fu Jinghua seemed to toss and turn. Based on the sound, she shifted from facing away to facing toward Xu Qingshui—or perhaps the other way around. When she couldn’t see Fu Jinghua’s face, her sense of hearing became particularly acute.
Fu Jinghua sat up, her arm reaching over. Xu Qingshui quickly squeezed her eyes shut. She soon realized the other woman was likely reaching to turn off the bedside lamp. She kept her eyes closed simply because she didn’t want to lock eyes with Fu Jinghua at this moment. In the dead of night, Xu Qingshui couldn’t guarantee that her “lack of desire” was entirely genuine.
But she waited for a long time, and the light never went out. Puzzled, Xu Qingshui opened her eyes. In the next second, she unexpectedly locked gazes with Fu Jinghua.
Fu Jinghua was also in pajamas—a deep V-neck white piece. Her figure was stunning, possessing a heat that contrasted sharply with her icy personality. Although Xu Qingshui didn’t intend to stare, she couldn’t help but marvel internally: So fair.
Clearly, they were both women, yet there was something distinctly different about her. To break the awkwardness, Xu Qingshui proactively asked, “…You’re not asleep yet.”
Though Xu Qingshui’s flash of discomfort was brief, Fu Jinghua caught it. She didn’t answer the question. Instead, she leaned closer and asked, “What were you looking at just now?”
Xu Qingshui fell silent. Fu Jinghua’s movement sent the rose fragrance straight to her nose, making her head spin and threatening her grasp on logic. Then, Grandmother’s words echoed in her mind. She realized that although the two of them had been intimate several times, it wasn’t born of genuine love. If possible, it was better to avoid saying things that could lead to misunderstandings.
She cleared her throat softly and said, “Nothing.”
The air grew thick with awkwardness again. Fu Jinghua was waiting for Xu Qingshui to speak. She felt her hints were as clear as day, yet Xu Qingshui was acting like a block of wood who didn’t understand romance. Has my charm declined?
Fu Jinghua frowned. If it were anyone else, she wouldn’t even entertain the thought, but because it was Xu Qingshui, she felt uncertain. The Xu Qingshui she knew, while annoying when she spoke, was usually straightforward. She had her schemes, but they were mostly harmless and she generally said what was on her mind. Given how proactive she had been a few days ago and how well their pheromones meshed, there was no reason for her to be this cold today.
Fu Jinghua pondered in silence, leaving the light on, hesitating whether to be blunt. Xu Qingshui, sensing something was off, asked tentatively, “Do you need me to fulfill the contract terms?”
She used her words carefully this time, avoiding the word “pheromones” entirely—a complete departure from her usual bluntness.
Fu Jinghua grew even more confused. She scrutinized Xu Qingshui, feeling that something was fundamentally “wrong.” She had intended to ask for pheromones, but seeing the way the Alpha kept mentioning the contract with such an indifferent air, she suddenly didn’t want them anymore. She snapped the light off and said coldly, “Go to sleep.”
Xu Qingshui: “…”
She felt a rare, bizarre sense of defeat and helplessness. She had absolutely no idea what had triggered Fu Jinghua’s anger. But since the lights were out, and although she hesitated to ask, she heard Fu Jinghua’s breathing even out and decided to let it go. She, too, drifted into a deep sleep.
In the middle of the night, while Xu Qingshui was sleeping soundly, a warm breath brushed against the back of her neck. Being too exhausted, she remained asleep and didn’t open her eyes.
Fu Jinghua was almost obsessively sniffing Xu Qingshui’s nape, but the Alpha was well-protected, and not a drop of scent leaked out. Fu Jinghua had to resort to licking the back of her neck to gather the tiny, trace amounts of pheromones. This was far slower than Xu Qingshui giving them to her directly, and it was far from satisfying.
Fu Jinghua even felt a twinge of regret for not being blunt earlier. But at the thought of Xu Qingshui’s oblivious face, her teeth itched with irritation. She had never been so thoroughly ignored!
Despite her anger, her lips continued to graze Xu Qingshui’s neck. She lay in the Alpha’s arms, and Xu Qingshui naturally pulled her closer. Whenever Fu Jinghua’s movements grew too bold, Xu Qingshui would let out a muffled groan: “Don’t move.”
But when Fu Jinghua looked closely, the Alpha’s eyes remained shut; she was fast asleep. It was just an instinctive reaction. Because for the past few nights, she had slept exactly like this—tucked into that embrace. Thinking of this, Fu Jinghua’s heart grew strangely calm. She thought: Xu Qingshui isn’t completely dense all the time.
After obtaining a few trace amounts of pheromones, Fu Jinghua finally stopped. She found a comfortable position, naturally held onto Xu Qingshui, and fell into a deep sleep. She was an Omega; needing pheromones was normal. Xu Qingshui was merely her “vessel,” so needing her wasn’t a big deal.
The next morning, Xu Qingshui woke to find someone in her arms. Soft hair was draped over her shoulder, and the woman’s entire posture was one of deep reliance. Xu Qingshui was about to wake her, but then she hesitated. This was far too intimate. She carefully lowered Fu Jinghua off her, trying her best not to wake her. Then, she stepped off the bed quietly and walked out of the room barefoot.
If Fu Jinghua woke up now, she might even think there had been no one beside her last night. Even if she knew someone had been there, she wouldn’t know how intimately they had been tangled. This is for the best.
Xu Qingshui didn’t see it, but Fu Jinghua opened her eyes the very moment she left the room. Due to her profession, Fu Jinghua was highly alert and a light sleeper. Though Xu Qingshui’s movements were gentle, she felt them. She had wanted to see what Xu Qingshui would do, but she hadn’t expected the woman to just leave. It was a complete departure from her usual behavior—almost a form of distancing.
Why?
Fu Jinghua walked out of the room and saw Xu Qingshui on the phone. The Alpha’s back was turned; she was tall and slender, her expression hidden, but her voice was audible.
“I’m not going. You guys go ahead.”
“Who all is there?”
“Fine. When?”
It sounded like she was making plans. Fu Jinghua couldn’t quite describe the feeling in her chest. Beyond anger, there was a strange sense of panic. She blamed it on the pheromones. After all, Xu Qingshui was her first “woman,” so the pheromones would naturally cause her to be overly concerned.
When Xu Qingshui finished the call and turned around, she froze. Fu Jinghua was staring at her intently.
Fu Jinghua asked, “Are you going out?”
Xu Qingshui nodded. “Yes.” She paused. “Did I wake you?”
Fu Jinghua shook her head. The frustration in her heart vanished at that one question. Xu Qingshui was still the same Xu Qingshui; this sense of stability satisfied her. She said, “No.”
But then she hated how easily her emotions were being manipulated, so she couldn’t help but frown. With a dark expression, she retreated back into the room.
Xu Qingshui found her behavior increasingly strange.
