After Falling in Love with the Scum Alpha’s Beautiful Original Wife at First Sight - Chapter 13
How many days had it been?
Qi Hengxing glanced at the date on her phone, her brows furrowing slightly.
Qi Yue had started school some time ago already, hadn’t she?
After leaving the hospital that day, Qi Hengxing had done exactly as she said. She truly had not given Qi Yue a single cent since then.
Based on Qi Yue’s habit of spending money like water, Qi Hengxing was certain she did not have the habit of saving money either. Most likely, she had little savings at all.
But up until today, Qi Yue had not tried to contact her, act obedient, or lower her head to Qi Hengxing.
This was truly too abnormal.
When Chengcheng came in, it was rare for her to see Qi Hengxing looking as if she were deep in thought.
She placed the documents in her hand on Qi Hengxing’s desk and could not help asking, “President Qi, what’s wrong? You look like you’ve run into some difficult problem.”
Qi Hengxing glanced at her. “There are some things I can’t figure out.”
Chengcheng was surprised. “Did the blind date your family arranged for you fall through again so quickly?”
“What reason did this Omega use to reject you this time? Did she say your voice is even worse than the monkeys shrieking on Qianling Mountain, or that your ability to empathize is comparable to nonflammable material?”
Those Omegas raised by wealthy and prestigious families aside from whatever other merits they had, were certainly outstanding when it came to describing and summarizing things.
Even now, Chengcheng still found it extremely funny whenever she thought about it.
Qi Hengxing’s face darkened. “I didn’t go on any blind date.”
Those were just boring social banquets. Besides, it was clearly those Omegas who had rushed over first to strike up conversations with her. In the end, before they had even exchanged more than a few words, they left on their own. The next day, all these baffling evaluations about Qi Hengxing immediately spread.
“Let’s talk seriously.” Qi Hengxing impatiently tossed a tiny paper airplane beside her hand. It drifted lightly through the air and hit Chengcheng on the shoulder. “There’s a contact in my phone named Fang Xiaotang. She’s Qi Yue’s classmate. Help me ask her how Qi Yue has been recently.”
As Qi Hengxing’s assistant, Chengcheng would keep Qi Hengxing’s phone for her during work hours, also for the convenience of handling work.
She nodded, took out Qi Hengxing’s phone, and searched for the person named Fang Xiaotang.
But Qi Hengxing suddenly stopped her again.
“Wait.”
Chengcheng looked at Qi Hengxing, doubt in her eyes.
Qi Hengxing narrowed her eyes. “Forget it. Don’t contact Fang Xiaotang.”
“Use your phone and post a WeChat Moments update now saying that you’re going on a business trip with me. Make it visible only to Qi Yue.”
Every two weeks, the students of Huai Kang City No. 1 High School would get one full weekend off, making it convenient for boarding students to go home.
On this rare weekend, Xu Qingzhi did not have any special plans. She originally wanted to curl up at home and not go anywhere. But unexpectedly, Cui Can invited her out for dinner.
The two of them simply agreed to meet at a small tavern.
Xu Qingzhi arrived a little earlier than Cui Can. She ordered herself a matcha latte first and sat in her seat, slowly waiting for Cui Can to arrive.
When Cui Can came over, she saw Xu Qingzhi sitting alone by the window from afar.
The weather had warmed slightly these past few days, but it was still only around the teens in degrees Celsius. Xu Qingzhi was still wearing a long dress, her hair coiled low behind her head, covering the pheromone-blocking patch on the back of her neck.
Every movement she made was quiet and elegant. She was simply like a meticulously painted beauty who had walked out of an ancient painting.
Cui Can walked to Xu Qingzhi’s table and sat down across from her.
“Hah—I was only one minute late going downstairs, and I missed the bus.”
As Cui Can spoke, she glanced into Xu Qingzhi’s cup. “Matcha latte? Why didn’t you order a glass of alcohol?”
“Forget it. I can’t drink alcohol.”
Cui Can had only said it casually. After sharing a dorm with Xu Qingzhi for four years in university, how could she not know that Xu Qingzhi did not drink?
She waved a server over and ordered food. After the dishes arrived, Cui Can took a sip of her own drink and tilted her head to look at Xu Qingzhi across from her.
“How have you been recently?”
For an instant, Xu Qingzhi’s eyes became blank. “I’ve been all right recently. When school had just started, I had to teach history to four classes, so I really was quite busy and almost couldn’t manage it. But once I got used to it, it was fine.”
Cui Can sighed and put down her cup. “That’s not what I’m asking.”
“I mean, how have things been between you and Shen Baiyi recently?”
“With Shen Baiyi?” Xu Qingzhi subconsciously repeated.
“It’s been all right too.”
Shen Baiyi’s overtime had clearly decreased recently. At night, she could almost always come home at a fixed time. Not only that, she would also bring back fruit and desserts for Xu Qingzhi every few days.
The weather was cold now, so they wore thick clothes. Any changes in body shape were not that obvious. But Xu Qingzhi still felt that she had gained a little weight compared with before.
She told Cui Can these things, but Cui Can’s gaze shifted to the upper left, revealing that, in her heart, she did not really believe Xu Qingzhi’s words.
Xu Qingzhi did not quite understand where Cui Can’s dissatisfaction with Shen Baiyi came from. But thinking about it, perhaps the relationship between Cui Can and Shen Baiyi was the kind of new “mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship” people talked about online, where a best friend could not stand one’s other half.
Seeing the expression on Cui Can’s face grow more and more dismissive, Xu Qingzhi stopped speaking and smiled faintly. “If you don’t want to hear it, then I won’t talk about it.”
“No, seriously, accompanying you for dinner is something worth bringing up? That’s something Shen Baiyi should be doing, all right?” Cui Can could not help knocking her knuckles against the table. “Before, she was working overtime like crazy and going on business trips for half a month at a time. Where she was going, who she was with, when she would come back—she wouldn’t say a word. Is she mute? Does she not know how to send messages? Does she not know there’s still someone at home?”
Xu Qingzhi promptly pressed down on Cui Can, who was growing more and more agitated. “Lower your voice. Everyone else is going to look over.”
Only then did Cui Can barely restrain herself. She tossed her hair and let out a breath. “What’s there to look at? Haven’t they ever seen someone advising a friend to divorce?”
She picked up her drink, took a sip through the straw, then frowned and said, “To be honest, even now, I still haven’t figured it out. Why did you decide to marry her back then?”
