After Transmigrating as a Beta, I Got Messed Up with an Alpha (BL) - Chapter 36
After Huo Juan sat down, Pei Yule smelled a scent of cold cypress.
Actually, he had already caught a faint whiff when Huo Juan pulled back the curtain to enter, but now that the man was seated—with only the space of one person between them—the pheromones became even more concentrated.
That’s right, didn’t he say… he wasn’t going to use blocking agents anymore?
Smelling Huo Juan’s scent, Pei Yule remembered his panicked flight from a week ago. Being confessed to by a man for the first time, he was frankly out of practice. He hadn’t known how to respond, so he’d just given Huo Juan a dry laugh, pushed him away, and bolted. Afterward, he’d either treated Huo Juan as invisible in class or shrunk his own presence to nearly zero. Luckily, Huo Juan seemed to understand his awkwardness; he spent most of his time either sleeping face-down on the desk or staring into space, never making a move to start a conversation. This had allowed Pei Yule’s nerves to settle—slightly.
However, as his nerves relaxed, another inexplicable emotion bubbled up. It was a sense of frustration, of a problem left unresolved and hanging in the air.
But he had no intention of being the one to break the stalemate. He had actually considered just letting things fade away over time. He figured Huo Juan might have just acted on a whim; once he calmed down and the feeling passed, the man would probably find it awkward, too. Pei Yule had dragged things out with this hope, and in a blink, a week had passed.
They hadn’t spoken for a whole week, let alone spent time alone together. Now that they were suddenly alone again, Pei Yule was undeniably nervous.
And why wouldn’t he be? This was the man who had confessed to him—the top-tier Alpha in this school, someone he never could have dreamed would like him.
Even though they sat at the same desk in class, also separated by just a person’s distance, Pei Yule felt their current proximity was exceptionally close. So close that he was clearly inhaling the other’s pheromones, making his legs feel soft. The body he had intended to stand up with felt weighed down by a heavy, invisible force, making it impossible to move freely.
He suddenly remembered Huo Juan’s words: “If I don’t take the medicine, the person who will end up with a headache later… will be you.”
He was right. Huo Juan hadn’t even done anything yet; just by smelling his pheromones, Pei Yule felt as though he were being bound to the spot by something invisible, his limbs losing their coordination.
But no matter how uncoordinated he felt, now that Huo Juan had sat down, he definitely had to run. Even if he sensed Huo Juan was blocking his path, if he didn’t run now, he’d only be more conflicted later.
Pei Yule steeled himself to stand, but his feet just kicked the air uselessly a few times… he found he simply couldn’t get up! It felt as if his strength had been sucked out of him. He was soft as cotton all over.
Could it be Huo Juan is doing it again—using his pheromones to paralyze me like before? Just as this thought occurred to him, he heard the man admit it.
“Don’t bother, you won’t be able to stand.” The tall Alpha sat beside him, not even looking at Pei Yule’s blatant struggle. He spoke flatly while adjusting the black wristband on his arm.
For an Alpha, suppressing someone was as easy as flipping a hand. Pei Yule was simply too sensitive to his scent. Currently, he was only releasing a faint amount—enough to limit the boy’s mobility without making him suffer.
Even though the person before him was wearing a fox mask, Huo Juan figured he was actually more like a rabbit. One second of inattention and he’d bolt. He wasn’t easy to catch. Now that he’d finally run into the cage on his own, it wouldn’t do not to lock the door.
Today was not a day to let him go.
“…”
Who said he was blind and didn’t recognize me? Oh, it was me. Never mind then…
Wait, actually, that’s a huge problem! If I said those things just now, Huo Juan might have misunderstood it as an invitation to sit! Pei Yule wanted to smack his past self. He sat frozen, looking at Huo Juan through the fox mask, burning with anxiety at being restrained.
However, after saying that, Huo Juan ignored him. He didn’t let him leave, but he didn’t speak either; he just kept his head down, fiddling with the black wristband.
Pei Yule could smell the continuous flow of pheromones. His chest tightened. Initially, he was nervous, but as time ticked by and Huo Juan showed no intention of speaking, he started to feel frustrated. I mean, what’s the point? He’s just sitting here not saying what he wants, but won’t let me out. What does he mean?
As if sensing his internal grumbling, after a few minutes, Huo Juan finally stopped fiddling with the wristband and looked straight at him. Pei Yule’s heart gave a jolt.
“It’ll be over in a moment,” he heard Huo Juan say cryptically. Before he could grasp the meaning, a wave of chaos erupted outside. Shouts, screams, and the sound of people falling or objects being knocked over filled the air. There was even the sound of glass breaking.
“…What’s going on?” Because it was so sudden, Pei Yule was startled. He didn’t understand what was happening outside the curtains, but the noise was terrifying; it sounded like a crime scene.
Huo Juan didn’t answer. He just glanced toward the curtain, sensing a tense atmosphere about to sweep through, and silently increased his pheromone release. The commotion outside didn’t subside; instead, it intensified, with voices shouting in the distance. Pei Yule became more and more restless, wanting to go out and see.
He couldn’t help but ask again, “What’s happening out there? Why is it so loud…?”
“It’ll be over in a moment.” Huo Juan repeated the same line, continuously releasing soothing pheromones. Using the curtain as a barrier, he enveloped Pei Yule in a dense protective layer.
But he was fighting a two-front battle: resisting the Alpha’s attack from outside while protecting Pei Yule. Furthermore, his pheromone disorder had been fluctuating all week. Having the person he craved right next to him but being unable to touch him only made his Alpha instincts scream louder. He was actually in quite a bit of pain himself.
Pei Yule was confused. He didn’t realize that if Huo Juan hadn’t been sitting right here, even if he were slightly distanced from the main hall and shielded by the curtain, he would have been overwhelmed and miserable from the pheromones being released in the hall.
But Pei Yule wasn’t an idiot. While he didn’t understand what Huo Juan meant by “it’ll be over in a moment” at first, hearing voices outside mention “arrange a doctor” and “take them to a room to rest,” he finally understood.
The “program” Fei Yisa mentioned had started. The voice directing things outside was Bian Chuan’s. So, when Huo Juan said “it’ll be over in a moment,” he just wanted him to stay put until the “Refusing Induction” segment ended. It was clear that the reason he was sitting here unscathed—feeling nothing but Huo Juan’s scent—was because Huo Juan was shielding him from the other Alpha’s pheromone attack.
Listening to the chaos outside and Bian Chuan calling for doctors, it was clear things weren’t as “no big deal” as Fei Yisa had said. The situation outside must be incredibly messy.
Pei Yule looked at Huo Juan, who was sitting steadily at the other end of the sofa. He opened his mouth, but didn’t know what to say. Thank you? That felt a bit weird. But pretending not to notice the favor felt wrong, too.
Just as he was hesitating, his sharp eyes saw Huo Juan’s body sway slightly.
“Hey?” Startled, his body moved faster than his brain. He reached out and grabbed Huo Juan as he leaned forward. “Are you okay—”
He moved too fast and forgot he was still weak in the knees. Instead of steadying the other man, he toppled forward first and was caught by a now-alert Huo Juan. He was leaning entirely against the Alpha, feeling the intense pheromones cover him head-to-toe at point-blank range.
“…” Huo Juan’s face changed. His hands were on Pei Yule’s shoulders. His reason told him to push the boy away, but his body refused; every fiber of his being was screaming for possession. He had been mentally prepared for the influence this person had on him, which was why he’d kept his distance.
But the boy had reached out to him… it felt like a permission for contact.
Outside the curtain.
The Alpha the school had brought in wasn’t actually a senior, but a reinforcement Alpha with high-tier pheromones—nearly top-tier. Although Fei Yisa was used to being “washed” in Shen Pin’s top-tier pheromones, he still felt a slight discomfort.
Looking at the Omegas in the hall who couldn’t stand, and the few whose Heat pheromones were being induced, affecting the nearby Alphas, he said with concern: “I didn’t know it would be this intense. That Alpha’s pheromones are something else.”
The pheromones had covered the hall in an instant. It was no longer a small affair.
Shen Pin stared at Fei Yisa’s slightly flushing cheeks and asked intently, “Are you okay?” He didn’t release his own pheromones to soothe the boy; for Fei Yisa, that was cheating, and he’d be angry if he found out. Even though Shen Pin desperately wanted to.
Fei Yisa exhaled deeply. “I’m okay.” He didn’t feel too bad, just a bit of discomfort. Remembering something, he said, “Right, Le-le is over there. I wonder if he’s alright…” He’d just told Pei Yule not to worry, but now that it had started, he realized it was no joke. A slight mistake could lead to disaster.
Even though Pei Yule was a Beta, being subjected to an Alpha’s suppression was miserable. And unlike Fei Yisa, Pei Yule hadn’t built up an immunity to top-tier pheromones.
Shen Pin said, “Huo Juan went over.” That sentence said everything.
Fei Yisa arched an eyebrow. True—Huo Juan probably wouldn’t let anything happen to Pei Yule. Alphas are intensely possessive; he’d definitely hate for Pei Yule to be affected by another Alpha’s scent.
Still… leaving Pei Yule in his hands felt a bit unfair to the boy who had been avoiding Huo Juan lately. “I’ll go take a look,” he said.
Shen Pin’s brow furrowed slightly. Fei Yisa didn’t notice his expression and turned to approach the curtain. But as soon as he got close, he felt a heavy, oppressive pressure through the fabric.
It was a sharp pheromone that repelled anyone from getting close.
This aggressive scent instantly worsened Fei Yisa’s discomfort. He stumbled and was caught by a quick-acting Shen Pin. The pheromones caused a stinging sensation on his skin—it was an indiscriminate attack that made both Alphas and Omegas feel miserable.
Due to an Omega’s instinct for submission, he subconsciously backed away, his spine pressing against Shen Pin. Sweat was visible on his forehead. Although Fei Yisa was used to Shen Pin’s scent, Huo Juan’s was also top-tier, and right now he was releasing an attack pheromone; making an Omega suffer was child’s play for him. His scent offered zero comfort to an Omega, only pure suppression. Powerful, and offering no hospitality to intruders.
Within seconds, Fei Yisa’s condition worsened. He gripped Shen Pin’s collar, almost unconsciously pressing closer to him, seeking the comfort of the pheromones he’d known since childhood.
Shen Pin gripped his shoulders, his expression turning solemn as he slowly released soothing pheromones. Enveloped by the familiar scent, Fei Yisa felt much better, the feeling of suffocation mostly vanishing. As soon as he felt better, he remembered Pei Yule was inside. He panted softly and murmured, “Le-le is in there…”
Shen Pin’s expression was grim. He spoke with a rare touch of roughness, “Worry about yourself first.”
If he blindly charged in, the one whose Heat would be triggered would definitely be Fei Yisa, and yet here he was worrying about others. But if he didn’t step in, there was no telling how difficult things would become. Shen Pin was both pained and angry.
The Alpha in the hall had no effect on Shen Pin, but Huo Juan was different; his attack pheromones amplified the innate violence in an Alpha’s bones, making it hard even for Shen Pin to stay rational. He closed his eyes in restraint, thinking he had to check on Pei Yule. He helped Fei Yisa stand steady against the wall, then grabbed the curtain to pull it open—
A low, suppressed voice rang out: “…Don’t come in.”
In an instant, the attack pheromones became even stronger, making it difficult even for Shen Pin to bear. It was a direct warning. His expression shifted, and he turned to see Fei Yisa leaning miserably against the wall, once again unable to breathe from the pressure.
“…Take him away.”
The low voice from inside spoke again. Clearly, the one Huo Juan wanted Shen Pin to take away wasn’t Pei Yule, but the flushing Fei Yisa. If it continued, Fei Yisa would definitely be the first to break. He was already being attacked by two Alpha scents; he could withstand the one in the hall, but adding Huo Juan’s made the misery tenfold. It wasn’t easy to resist.
It was only thanks to Shen Pin’s soothing pheromones that he hadn’t been triggered on the spot. Fei Yisa’s red wristband had detected his distress—his pheromones were fluctuating wildly—so it had automatically injected a suppressant. While it provided temporary relief, he hadn’t fully recovered yet.
Looking at Fei Yisa’s red face and heavy breathing, Shen Pin naturally wanted to take him away immediately. But Pei Yule was still inside!
“…Shen Pin, take Fei Yisa away.”
Just as Shen Pin was about to ignore everything, tear back the curtain, kick Huo Juan away, and drag both of them out, Pei Yule’s voice came from inside. He sounded… fairly normal.
Pei Yule was, in fact, fairly normal. Even though he was currently encircled in Huo Juan’s arms, with a large head nuzzling into his neck and hot breath fanning over his skin—along with a bit of wet heat and contact—his brain was still calm and able to assess the situation.
He had been startled initially. When Huo Juan hugged him and pressed his lips to his neck to give him a bite, he thought he was going to lose his mind. But in the next second, the spot where he’d been bitten was licked, followed by the Alpha’s low murmurs. A lick followed by a murmur—a string of whispered “I’m sorry”s so soft they were like a breath. Pei Yule’s blank mind gradually regained its reason.
He found it both funny and irritating. This Alpha knows to apologize, so he should just get his ass up! What’s with pinning me down! Pei Yule wanted to complain, but he also saw the veins on Huo Juan’s neck and knew the man was struggling.
…And that careful, precious licking—as if he were some rare treasure that would disappear if he took too large a bite—gave him an indescribable feeling.
The man had said that every time they touched, he would lose control. So, since entering, he hadn’t actively touched him. Once Pei Yule realized this, he heard Fei Yisa’s labored breathing through the curtain. He remembered: under Alpha pheromones, the most miserable ones are the Omegas. He might have soft knees, but an Omega could be triggered in minutes.
The one pinning him was an Alpha, and there was another Alpha with Fei Yisa; neither was to be trifled with. Taking Fei Yisa away was the priority. Compared to him, the Omega was more easily hurt and needed more protection. At least the Alpha on top of him knew to apologize; the one facing the outside was just doing indiscriminate attacks. Recalling Huo Juan’s Rut, Xu Yanxi had left first; looking back, it must be because an Alpha at this time is particularly dangerous. He didn’t want Fei Yisa and Shen Pin to get hurt because of him.
“…Are you okay?” Shen Pin asked in a deep voice. Through the curtain, he could vaguely see two figures on the sofa… their postures were inseparable, perfectly entwined.
In the space shielded by the curtain, the two figures were indeed tangled together on the sofa, limbs entwined in an intimate posture. The fox mask was pressed deep into the soft sofa by the tall Alpha. The fanged mask had somehow slipped off and landed on the cushions. The Alpha remained buried in Pei Yule’s neck, his breath moving slowly.
“…I’m fine, just take Fei Yisa away quickly.” Pei Yule wanted to dodge but was pinned fast. Several attempts only left him feeling more powerless. He took a breath, only to fill his lungs with Huo Juan’s pheromones, making his limbs even softer. He had a massive headache, but he remembered to tell Shen Pin to take Fei Yisa away. “I’ll take care of myself… don’t worry…”
Sensing Shen Pin’s hesitation, he felt he wouldn’t be able to hold out much longer. If it continued, Huo Juan would lose control even further. While the man still knew how to apologize, he needed to get the support staff! Pei Yule raised his voice: “I’m serious, take Fei Yisa and go, and please find those support people for me—mph!”
His conversation with another Alpha was a massive trigger for the current Huo Juan. His chin was gripped, and Huo Juan turned his face to face him. The light pecks on his neck turned heavy, bordering on painful. During the movement, the finger gripping his chin accidentally slipped into his slightly parted mouth. Huo Juan’s eyes darkened, and he simply gave it a swirl inside.
“Uh…”
The finger reaching almost to his throat made Pei Yule’s scalp prickle. He started to feel he’d been too reckless, letting Huo Juan’s murmured apologies turn his head and forgetting that this person really was a dangerous element. Although Huo Juan had let him off every time before, it didn’t mean he would this time!
In that short span of time, the man had bitten him again!
Feeling his neck grow numb, pained, and hot, Pei Yule felt a trace of regret. He realized Huo Juan was now moving toward the back of his neck, his hot breath sending a wave of itching down his spine. Remembering this was the location of an Alpha or Omega’s scent gland, he stopped caring about everything else. He used his tongue to shove out the finger messing around in his mouth and shouted a reminder: “Wait, I don’t have a scent gland—!”
The back of his neck—emitting zero pheromones—was exposed to the Alpha, radiating a clean aura that made one want to leave a deep tooth-mark on it. Huo Juan’s eyes were terrifyingly dark. He used the finger that had just teased Pei Yule’s mouth to slowly and lightly stroke the back of the boy’s neck.
The pale skin was now stained with a trace of glistening moisture, taking on an even more alluring color. It made one… want to bite.
