After Transmigrating as a Beta, I Got Messed Up with an Alpha (BL) - Chapter 35
Initially, Pei Yule didn’t know that Huo Juan would be attending.
Everyone participating in this Winter Gala was a student. Originally, the rules stated that only Alphas and Omegas could attend, but some Betas possessed invitation cards—like Pei Yule.
As for why the primary participants were Alphas and Omegas, according to Fei Yisa: “Actually, the nature of this gala is mainly to strengthen the self-control of Alphas and the emotional regulation of Omegas.”
Facing a confused Pei Yule, Fei Yisa had to be more explicit.
“As you know, Alphas and Omegas are usually affected by pheromones. This gala is a special event held to let them reinforce their rationality as much as possible.”
Generally, only senior Alphas and Omegas could participate because they were facing the critical period of approaching adulthood. The school wanted to teach certain things to the students through this method, so they held this gala.
This school, as an ABO-integrated public school, was actually quite miraculous. Usually, in society, Alphas and Omegas wouldn’t attend the same school; Alphas would have their exclusive schools, and Omegas would have theirs. This school was the first and only one in City A to open enrollment to all three genders.
The founder of the school felt that since they had started this, they should teach all aspects to the students, leading to the creation of this Winter Gala.
“This gala is considered a routine activity at No. 1 High. During the party, there’s a program called ‘Refusing Induction.’ Usually, an Omega or Alpha is arranged to go on stage and release their pheromones to induce everyone. Then, the Alphas must resist their instincts, while the Omegas must fight against their own state of heat. Success here leads to excellent evaluations for university and is very helpful for future employment.”
While it sounded like a preposterous decision, it wasn’t entirely ineffective; it truly played a significant role for the students. By experiencing such a situation, they would have the experience to resist such emergencies after entering society.
“Won’t things go wrong easily?” Pei Yule was astonished. “Releasing pheromones in front of so many Alphas and Omegas should easily cause a riot, right?”
Even he knew that an Omega in Heat could potentially induce all the Alphas and Betas in the school; it could turn into a news headline in minutes. This gala was actually based on the premise of openly conducting inductions?! Was the founder sane??
“That’s why you’re made to wear this.”
Fei Yisa tapped the blue wristband on Pei Yule’s wrist, which he was required to wear before entering. “This wristband is for suppression; it has an automatic injection device. If it senses a large fluctuation in the wearer’s pheromones, it will naturally inject a suppressant. The Alpha wristbands have sedative components, the Omega ones have soothing ones, and the Beta ones should be relief components.”
Alphas wore black, Omegas red, and Betas blue.
Pei Yule looked at the red wristband on Fei Yisa’s hand and the black one on Shen Pin’s, still finding it somewhat surreal. “It doesn’t guarantee everything is foolproof, though. What if the wristband fails…?”
“Look over there.”
Fei Yisa signaled with his chin toward twenty or so men in black uniforms in the hall, whispering, “Those are the reinforcements sent in. Black sleeves are Alphas, red are Omegas, and blue are Betas. They’ve all been trained; they’re likely from the military. They can handle any chaotic state perfectly.”
So even if the wristbands failed, it didn’t matter because there was another fast and precise solution. …Just what kind of person was the founder of this school? Pei Yule was speechless for a moment.
“Though it feels reckless, it’s not completely without effect,” Fei Yisa shrugged. “Not long ago, there was a news report about an Omega heat incident in the Ruili Building. An Alpha was trapped in the same place at the time, but the Alpha didn’t attack the Omega; he called the police. That Alpha was our senior, graduated last year.”
Pei Yule also knew about that news. He had thought the Alpha’s self-restraint was quite good back then, as most reports said Alphas found it difficult to resist an Omega’s induction pheromones.
Fei Yisa patted Pei Yule’s shoulder and said, “Actually, don’t think too seriously about it. Since it’s held in the school’s name, there will definitely be restraint. Just eat, drink, and have fun to your heart’s content.”
Pei Yule actually wasn’t worried about himself. He was a Beta; what was there to worry about? Aside from making his limbs soft and causing a bit of discomfort, AO pheromones didn’t seem to have a huge effect on him.
He was mainly worried about the two in front of him and felt he had to remind Fei Yisa: “You’re an Omega, and Shen Pin is an Alpha.” Even if Fei Yisa looked more like an Alpha than a real one.
Fei Yisa laughed a couple of times. “You don’t need to worry about that either. Do you think his status as a top-tier Alpha is fake? I’ve known him for how many years? I’ve trained for this many times. People whose pheromones aren’t as strong as his can’t affect me, and I’ve yet to see anyone with pheromones more top-tier than his.”
He glanced at Shen Pin, then winked at Pei Yule. “As for him, don’t worry, nothing will happen.” He puffed out his chest a bit proudly. “Don’t look at me being so ‘Alpha-like’; actually, my pheromones are quite good, top-tier even. I’ve even tried to induce him with my pheromones, and he didn’t react at all. His self-control is staggeringly strong.”
“…”
Pei Yule looked at Fei Yisa’s smug expression and couldn’t help but cast a sympathetic glance at Shen Pin. Poor Shen Pin—how did he end up with such a thick-headed Omega? It was truly lucky he cared enough for Fei Yisa that he didn’t make a move, yet here he was being “affirmed” for his self-restraint. He didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
As they were talking, a test tone rang out in the hall, followed by a low, magnetic voice: “Welcome, everyone, to tonight’s gala. I am the person in charge, Bian Chuan. The gala begins at eight and ends at eleven. If you need anything during this time, you can speak to me or the Student Council members; the Council will do its best to cooperate. I wish everyone a happy and pleasant evening.”
A concise opening and a crisp ending.
Pei Yule whispered to Fei Yisa, “The person in charge is the President? Don’t the teachers manage it?”
Fei Yisa whispered back, “Every year it’s hosted by the Student Council. The teachers who attend are only responsible for grading the students; they don’t handle the specifics.”
Pei Yule was still worried. “What if something happens…?” It wasn’t that he looked down on Bian Chuan’s work ability, but he was just a student. If something really happened in such a large venue, how could a single student be responsible?
“Don’t worry,” Fei Yisa pushed him toward the dessert area. “Just eat until you’re full. Don’t think too much; they’ll definitely handle things well.”
After all, in twenty years of the school’s history, not a single gala had ever had an accident. It wouldn’t just suddenly happen during their year.
Pei Yule didn’t know that Fei Yisa was raising flags left and right. Holding a piece of Black Forest cake Fei Yisa had stuffed into his hand, he saw the other take a happy “om” bite as well. He thought, Whatever—if the Alpha and Omega don’t care, I shouldn’t worry so much. He started eating.
After a few bites, he adjusted the high-collared robe he was wearing with some discomfort, then looked at Fei Yisa’s overalls and Shen Pin’s tailcoat. Then he looked around…
He was wearing a high-collared robe, somewhat similar to clothes from the Republic of China era. Ahead, there were people in sportswear, suits, student uniforms different from No. 1 High’s, ancient style outfits, and even mascot suits.
Actually, this is a masquerade party, isn’t it… The only thing missing was a mask on his face.
Just as Pei Yule was starting to complain, he saw Lin Nianchun and Cheng Po, the Student Council members who had given them their clothes earlier, coming along with a tray, handing out items to people they passed.
Pei Yule looked closer and saw they were various kinds of masks. “…” It really is a masquerade party.
There wouldn’t happen to be dancing later, would there? He hadn’t faced this kind of occasion before; he’d find a corner to wait out the time.
While Pei Yule was grumbling internally, he saw Lin Nianchun reach them, taking a mask from Cheng Po’s tray and handing it to Fei Yisa. “Student Fei, please put on the mask.”
“Oh.” Fei Yisa was straightforward and took the mask. Pei Yule saw Lin Nianchun about to pick up a second mask, but out of the corner of his eye, he spotted something. His heart jumped; he grabbed a fox mask from the tray and instantly ducked behind Fei Yisa, putting the mask on his face with lightning speed.
Oh, hell! The main invitees of this gala were Alphas and Omegas; how could he have forgotten that Huo Juan would very likely participate?!
Those two tall Alphas who had just stepped through the front door—who else could they be but Huo Juan and Xu Yanxi!
His action was so sudden that all four were startled. Fei Yisa turned around to look at him, quite puzzled. “Do you like that fox mask that much?”
No, he just wanted to hide his face.
Pei Yule stared at Fei Yisa’s handsome face, which hadn’t yet been covered by a mask, and thought that if he stayed with him and Shen Pin, even with a mask on, he would surely be recognized by Huo Juan.
He decisively said, “I feel a bit tired, I’m going to go sit on the sofa over there.”
Fei Yisa initially wondered if he was unwell, but his eyes inadvertently swept across Huo Juan’s figure and he understood. He said, “Go, go. Don’t wander around. We’ll head back when it’s almost over.”
“Mm.”
Pei Yule replied, moving his feet. Carefully using the figures of people passing by as cover, he quickly ran to a certain floor-to-ceiling window in the corner and hid behind the curtain.
He didn’t know if this spot was intentionally left for resting, but there was actually a sofa placed there. Sitting here should be quite comfortable; he might even be able to lie down and rest for a bit.
Though he wouldn’t actually lie down, Pei Yule felt very lucky. He quickly pulled the curtain shut, creating two separate spaces between the venue and the window, blocking the shifting shadows of people before sitting on the sofa.
He had been very careful just now; Huo Juan shouldn’t have noticed him, right?
He kind of wanted to pull back the curtain to check the situation, but he was worried it would attract attention. After thinking it over, he felt staying put was best. So, he sat peacefully on the sofa, waiting for this strange gala to end.
After waiting for a few minutes, he licked his lips with a bit of regret. If only he had brought some food with him when he came in. To attend this gala, he had intentionally eaten very little for dinner, just so he could have a feast here.
But Huo Juan’s arrival had broken his plan.
He rubbed his stomach, then the fox mask on his face, wondering if he should sneak out to grab some food. In TV shows, the other person never recognizes you if you wear a mask. Maybe it would be the same for him? He was wearing a Republican-era outfit; maybe Huo Juan wouldn’t recognize him?
No, no. Pei Yule changed his mind. Those scenes on TV only work because people act like they’re blind; how could he not be recognized? Better not to risk it and wait quietly for the end.
He rubbed his stomach and continued to sit obediently. To forget his hunger and pass the time, he pulled out his phone, deciding to find a novel to read—
Just then, the curtain was suddenly pulled back, and a tall figure bent down and walked in.
Pei Yule was still scrolling through his phone. Hearing the noise, he looked up, and then—
His phone nearly fell; he scrambled to catch it, almost jumping up to open the window and leap out to escape. Fortunately, he remembered they were on the eighteenth floor, so he suppressed the urge and sat on the sofa with a stiff expression.
…Huo Juan.
Even if the newcomer was wearing a very ugly fanged mask, that superior jawline and those cold thin lips meant it was Huo Juan without a doubt. You can still recognize people even with masks on. TV shows really are full of blind people.
Compared to his stiffness, the Huo Juan who had pulled the curtain back and stepped in seemed somewhat surprised. He stopped in his tracks, his hand on the curtain loosening slightly as if he wanted to back out.
Seeing this, a spark of inspiration hit Pei Yule.
Could it be this ‘blind’ person didn’t recognize me? He saw someone was already here when he pulled the curtain, so he was hesitating whether to enter?
The more Pei Yule thought about it, the more it seemed to be the case. He seized the opportunity, intentionally lowering and distorting his voice: “Do you want to come in and sit? Then I’ll—” give the spot to you.
As he spoke, he moved to stand up, only to find the person by the curtain had let it drop. However, instead of backing out, the man stepped forward and sat in the spot right next to him.
Very skillfully, he blocked Pei Yule’s way out.
