After Transmigrating as a Beta, I Got Messed Up with an Alpha (BL) - Chapter 37
As the touch moving across the back of his neck carried a faint, slick dampness, the skin on Pei Yule’s nape couldn’t help but break out in a wave of goosebumps. He wanted to push the person away, but his limbs were useless; his fingertips trembled incessantly as he struggled with great difficulty against the oppression brought by the Alpha on top of him.
Just as Pei Yule thought he was about to have his neck bitten through by Huo Juan, his vision suddenly spun. He was tossed over, his posture shifting from lying on his back on the sofa to being pressed on top of Huo Juan—Huo Juan had swapped their positions!
His mouth and nose were still filled with a deluge of pheromones, leaving him unable to sense anyone else’s presence.
His heart skipped a few beats. Perhaps because the pheromones on Huo Juan had become even denser, the blue wristband finally sensed an overbearingly dangerous signal. Pei Yule’s wristband flashed abruptly, injecting a relieving suppressant into his wrist.
The weakness in his limbs lessened slightly, but his waist was being gripped so tightly by Huo Juan that it felt like it might snap. Before he could even adapt to the position, he opened his mouth to say something, only to find his perspective changing yet again—
Huo Juan had hoisted him up over his shoulder!
He felt himself being carried for a few steps, followed by two sharp “shriek” sounds as the curtains were pulled open.
They each pulled a side; Shen Pin pulled the left curtain, and Huo Juan, carrying Pei Yule, pulled the right one.
The two Alphas locked eyes. Shen Pin looked at Huo Juan’s dark eyes, which were visibly bloodshot, and clearly sensed the aggressive pheromones that hadn’t receded at all.
It was incredibly brazen; aside from the person on his shoulder who carried a few traces of soothing pheromones, neither Alpha nor Omega would feel comfortable facing this aura.
Huo Juan’s gaze swept past Shen Pin, landing on the Alpha’s own reddened eye sockets, and then slowly moved to Fei Yisa, who was leaning on Shen Pin’s shoulder.
The Omega was unconscious.
If he hadn’t misheard earlier, it seemed this Omega had asked Shen Pin to knock him out after regaining consciousness. Fei Yisa had been injected with suppressants by his red wristband and was feeling much better, but if he were awake and the symptoms didn’t subside, it would certainly be more painful than being unconscious. He knew that as long as he was out, it wouldn’t matter even if he were induced into heat, so he had let Shen Pin knock him out.
He couldn’t let anything happen to Pei Yule.
As it turned out, just as he was knocked out by his best friend and Shen Pin pulled the curtain, the person inside took the initiative to step out.
Though the man still gave off an extremely dangerous vibe and his pheromones remained reckless, he had brought the person out completely intact. Looking at Pei Yule’s condition, he seemed mostly fine. He hadn’t actually suffered any real harm.
Shen Pin was also an Alpha; he knew that when one loses control, exercising restraint is far from simple. It is a constant battle between reason and a totalizing possessiveness and desire for encroachment, suffering through an unspeakable burning pain every second. One slip, and it’s easy to lose all logic.
Yet Huo Juan had brought the person out while clear-headed. Despite the unfulfilled desire still lingering in his eyes, he had actually held back.
Being carried on his shoulder, Pei Yule was also a bit confused by the current situation. He knew he was being hauled by Huo Juan and realized the man hadn’t actually bitten him. Unfortunately, though the relief suppressant had been injected, his body hadn’t fully recovered; he was still soft and couldn’t even struggle his way down. Only his mouth could move: “Huo Juan, what is with you? Put me down…”
Suddenly, a scent of violets began to permeate from ahead, cutting into the previously tense atmosphere. It also caused Pei Yule’s limbs to regain some strength, allowing him to give a couple of kicks.
However, while the violet scent had a soothing effect on Omegas and Betas, to the two Alphas, it felt like a provocation. Huo Juan grabbed Pei Yule’s flailing legs, ignoring his protests. He and Shen Pin—who was supporting the unconscious Fei Yisa—looked over at the same time to see Bian Chuan slowly approaching.
Bian Chuan was an Alpha whose pheromones were the gentle type. Even without intentional soothing, once released, they easily acted as a palliative for Betas and Omegas. However, no matter how gentle, they were still the pheromones of an Alpha, which made them irritating to other Alphas.
Bian Chuan didn’t mind the displeased expressions of the two men. He approached the four, his calm gaze falling on Pei Yule, who was being carried by Huo Juan, and then checked on the unconscious Fei Yisa held by Shen Pin.
Behind him followed two Student Council members, whose faces looked quite unhappy upon seeing Huo Juan and Shen Pin. Only Bian Chuan’s expression was businesslike as he spoke: “Doctors have been arranged for you. Please follow me.”
Though everyone understood that Bian Chuan was the gala organizer and was doing this out of duty, the thought of handing over their Beta or Omega to him? Impossible—don’t even think about it.
Huo Juan turned to leave while carrying his person, and Shen Pin also silently supported Fei Yisa, preparing to find a place to continue soothing his symptoms. Xu Yanxi walked over from behind, rubbing his forehead at the sight of the headache-inducing scene.
“Ah-Juan, put Brother Pei down.”
In the current situation, they should listen to Bian Chuan and let the doctors take a look. Their wristbands had already activated the injection devices; for their health’s sake, they should let a doctor check them. But knowing the two Alphas wouldn’t hand their person over to anyone else, he only meant to remind Huo Juan not to just take the person away entirely.
“Yes, yes, yes, put me down!” Hearing Xu Yanxi back him up, Pei Yule immediately seized the opportunity. He wanted Huo Juan to at least let him down; his stomach was pressed against Huo Juan’s shoulder, and having been empty from hunger, it was now starting to ache.
“No,” Huo Juan answered curtly. He held onto Pei Yule’s kicking feet and whispered: “Behave.”
He was currently struggling to suppress his impulses; in truth, he wasn’t entirely rational. If Pei Yule kept moving like that… he wouldn’t be polite.
Sensing that the other’s body was still tense, Pei Yule wanted to behave, but he really couldn’t maintain the posture. He shouted: “My stomach hurts like this!”
“…” Huo Juan paused slightly.
“Let the doctor see Brother Pei; you know his constitution isn’t great,” Xu Yanxi added pointedly, seeing the hesitation. He knew exactly how to make Huo Juan yield. Sure enough, hearing this, Huo Juan stopped his steps completely and looked back at him.
Xu Yanxi spread his hands. “Also, if you just take him away now, his conduct points for this event will be completely gone. Not to mention, the Omega stage hasn’t even started yet.”
By attending this gala, one could earn conduct points by enduring both Alpha and Omega pheromones. If Huo Juan just took him away, Pei Yule would have come for nothing and wouldn’t get any points.
“Huh?” Pei Yule didn’t realize there was such a thing. He thought just showing up was enough! “…”
Noticing Pei Yule’s shock and feeling the not-quite-substantial body on his shoulder, Huo Juan lowered his eyelids and set Pei Yule down.
The moment his feet touched the ground, Pei Yule finally felt a bit more grounded. Heaven knows he had just felt like he was dangling in the air, completely unsettled.
Huo Juan didn’t want to hand Pei Yule over to another Alpha, nor to a Beta, and certainly wouldn’t let an Omega care for him. After a moment of thought, he said to Xu Yanxi, “Suppressant.”
“…” Xu Yanxi’s lip twitched as he pulled a suppressant from his pocket and handed it over. “You really banked on me having one…” he muttered. Still, it was good that Huo Juan was willing to take a suppressant now; at least he would become much more level-headed. Seeing Bian Chuan still standing nearby watching silently, and knowing Huo Juan’s nature made it impossible to hand Pei Yule to anyone else, Xu Yanxi threw an arm around Bian Chuan’s shoulder and grabbed one of the Student Council members, pushing them away. “Never mind these two pairs; there are likely people over there who need your care much more…”
The voices faded with their footsteps.
The hall felt like it had suddenly cooled down. Pei Yule saw Huo Juan start to uncapping the seal for an injection with a blank face. Realizing what it was, he hesitated but couldn’t help speaking up: “Wait, is this…” The U-type drug?
Huo Juan clearly knew what he was asking and replied: “No.” He inserted the needle into his arm, finished the injection with one hand, put the empty syringe away, and added: “It’s just a regular suppressant.”
Really? Pei Yule shot him a suspicious glance. He opened his mouth but didn’t know what to say. Having just experienced all that, now that the crisis was over, everything felt off. He scratched his head and turned to see Shen Pin and Fei Yisa nearby. Realizing they had been caught in the crossfire between him and Huo Juan, he asked quickly: “Shen Pin! Is Fei Yisa okay?”
“He’s fine.” Shen Pin didn’t have a good look for Huo Juan, but his face softened significantly toward Pei Yule, his voice even regaining a hint of warmth. He appreciated that Pei Yule had told him to take his person and leave during such a crisis. “I just knocked him out; he’ll wake up in a bit.” He hadn’t hit him too hard.
Pei Yule was confused, not understanding why he’d knock Fei Yisa out: “Why did you knock him out?”
Shen Pin’s voice dropped. “He asked for it.”
“…” Pei Yule felt a surge of respect for Fei Yisa. Truly an Alpha among Omegas—so decisive. To avoid being triggered into heat, he’d actually let Shen Pin knock him out.
Just then, Fei Yisa groaned and began to wake up. His recovery rate was stronger than a typical Omega’s; if anyone else had been hit by Shen Pin, they definitely wouldn’t have woken up this fast.
“Fei Yisa, you’re awake? How do you feel?” Pei Yule looked toward him and was about to go check on him, but his arm was suddenly pulled by a hand, and his eyes were covered by a large palm. Not only was he not allowed to go over, he wasn’t even allowed to look.
Then came the Alpha’s slightly strained voice: “Didn’t your stomach hurt? There’s a doctor here, I’ll go with you to see them.” After the suppressant, the urge to hide the person away was no longer so uncontrollable, but he still hated him getting too close to others.
Pei Yule was too close to that Omega. Recently, while avoiding him, the boy was always with this Omega and Alpha. If it weren’t for the fact that he said his stomach hurt, Huo Juan wouldn’t have restrained himself; he would have followed his own desires and taken the boy away directly.
“I’m fine…” Fei Yisa had just woken up and could also sense a strong aura of danger. His intuition was always scarily accurate; sensing that Huo Juan probably didn’t like Pei Yule being too close to him, he found it funny but also felt Huo Juan had once again opened his eyes. It was as if a god had fallen from their pedestal? He looked like flesh and blood now, not so lofty and detached.
Pei Yule didn’t quite understand an Alpha’s possessiveness yet. Feeling the warmth of the palm, he suddenly remembered this guy was still the person he was supposed to be avoiding! The experience of being pinned on the sofa and licked was so intense it had made him forget his plan to hide. Even though he remembered now, it felt unnecessary after what just happened. Hearing that Fei Yisa’s voice was quite energetic, he sighed in relief and crossly grabbed the hand covering his eyes. “No need for a doctor, I’m just hungry.”
Huo Juan paused, then said: “Let’s go eat.”
Eating was a must, but… did he have to follow him? Pei Yule looked at the tall Alpha behind him; protest was futile, so he could only pretend the man wasn’t there and help himself to food.
Bian Chuan’s work ability was truly impressive; in just ten-odd minutes, the chaos caused by the Alpha’s pheromones had returned to normal, as if it had all been an illusion.
Pei Yule circled the food area—which had been restocked with fresh items—several times until his stomach was half-full. Just as he was about to stick his fork into a piece of steaming steak, the lights in the hall suddenly went black.
“?” A power outage? Pei Yule didn’t expect such a large venue to have this kind of flaw and found it fascinating, but then a single light in the middle of the hall lit up. Where the light hit, a platform slowly began to rise.
The light hit the top of that platform, reflecting a young man sitting there with his chin in his hand, his features so exquisite they seemed unreal. The man was wearing a beige leisure suit. His eyes were closed, but as if sensing the light, his long, curled eyelashes fluttered slowly and he opened them, revealing a pair of bright, brilliant eyes.
At first, he seemed dazed, his eyelashes fluttering as if he didn’t understand why he was there. But as the platform reached its highest point, he moved, lowered his hand, stood up, took two steps forward, and suddenly gave everyone a faint smile.
Immediately, a powerful wave of pheromones erupted from him. Almost at the same instant the lights came back on, several Alphas in the room turned bright red, their breathing suddenly becoming heavy.
Pei Yule felt his face flush and his heart race from the man’s smile; he couldn’t believe his heart would beat faster for a man. He moved his feet, about to walk toward the platform, when he suddenly felt his wrist grabbed.
He turned back in confusion, only to see Huo Juan looking down with an unreadable expression, bringing his face close to his.
