After Transmigrating as the Abandoned Rich Wife O, I Turned the Scum A's Life into a Crematorium [Transmigration] - Chapter 23
Every computer in Shen Siying’s villa was equipped with a micro-camera. She was a meticulous person; though she didn’t have the habit of bringing work home, she always kept a card up her sleeve.
However, when that person opened her computer, they clearly knew about the settings and had deliberately obstructed the lens. Shen Siying was a person of habit, and the placement of her micro-cameras had never changed. Anyone who had been with her long enough would naturally know her patterns.
Yet, unless they were the most intimate or trusted person, even if they knew her well, it would be difficult to pinpoint the exact locations of those cameras.
Currently, she could narrow it down to three people: Gu Bei, Xiao Ye, or Xin Mengyao.
It was logically impossible for Gu Bei to have found the divorce agreement herself, modified the timestamp, and then made herself heartbroken over it. Xiao Ye was at the office, and unless summoned, she wouldn’t come to Shen Siying’s home or step into her boss’s private domain.
That left only one person: Xin Mengyao.
Shen Siying truly couldn’t fathom why Xin Mengyao would do such a thing. Back then, it was Xin Mengyao who insisted on going abroad. At that time, Shen Siying was still fighting against her family and was fifty percent sure she wouldn’t have to marry Gu Bei. But before the final decision was made, Xin Mengyao had vanished from her world.
Furthermore, Xin Mengyao had only returned to the country this month. When they separated in high school, Shen Siying was still living in the old family estate with her grandmother, not in this magnificent villa. Back when she was with Xin Mengyao, Shen Siying didn’t have the habit of installing micro-cameras on her computers.
All clues reached a dead end here.
Six years of feelings don’t just fade away instantly. The separation in high school was a matter of necessity; even now, Shen Siying felt she was the one who owed an apology. Thus, she chose to believe in Xin Mengyao’s character.
When Shen Siying was in her senior year of high school, her grandmother happened to face a financial crisis. Gu Bei’s parents didn’t abandon Shen Siying’s family then; instead, they married their daughter to her regardless of the risks. Consequently, for three years, Shen Siying had felt that their union was merely a mutual debt between two families.
Based on her understanding of the “old” Gu Bei, she fully believed this was a farce directed and acted out by Gu Bei herself to escape her control and frolic with other “wild Alphas.”
At this thought, she clenched her fists until her knuckles turned white. Yet, for some reason, even if it was all just her own speculation, Shen Siying felt as if a sharp blade had carved into her heart, flaying a layer of skin and tearing away a piece of flesh. It was bloody, raw, and hideous.
Just last night, her little Omega had been slumped softly in her arms;
Her little Omega had shyly murmured that she liked her;
Her little Omega had almost gone mad, drowning in her pheromones;
Clearly, clearly, they had both enjoyed that night of lingering intimacy.
So why was Gu Bei so strange today?
Why was the look in Gu Bei’s eyes only thin and cold?
Why did today’s Gu Bei look so beautiful, yet so different from her memory?
Why… why was she the only one suffering, mourning, and regretting?
“Fuck!” Shen Siying smashed the wine glass in her hand against the floor. Shattered glass sprayed everywhere, stained with the remains of the un-drunk red wine.
Drawn by the sound, Xin Mengyao and the butler appeared outside the door of the new study.
“President Shen?” The butler frowned slightly. “Are you alright?”
The butler had watched Shen Siying grow up. He knew her temper; she wouldn’t get angry or smash things without a reason. Even when her toughest competitor hacked her computer and stole massive, vital data, she could calmly communicate with lawyers and discuss a counter-strategy. Even when a partner betrayed her to steal secrets and take an order worth hundreds of millions, she could calmly use business strategies to dismantle the opponent’s plans one by one.
Shen Siying didn’t answer the butler but shifted her gaze to Xin Mengyao. The girl’s eyes were red, and fear flickered in her light brown pupils. In the past, her face and her fear were like a drug to Shen Siying—one that could make her lose her reason instantly.
Shen Siying walked toward her and let out a soft sigh. “Mengyao, I’m sorry. Did I scare you?”
Faced with Shen Siying’s tenderness, a crystal tear began to roll in Xin Mengyao’s eye. Shen Siying patted her shoulder lightly, gesturing for her to step aside so she could pass.
In the few seconds they brushed past each other, Xin Mengyao suddenly said to Shen Siying’s back in a trembling voice: “Siying, before I move out, I will go beg Sister Gu Bei to come back—no matter what it takes!”
Shen Siying stopped abruptly and turned around with an exhausted face. “No need.”
Her voice was somewhat raspy and languid, yet possessed an irresistible magic.
“I have to go!” Xin Mengyao let out a hysterical shout.
Shen Siying’s eyebrows twitched. Why did her business with Gu Bei have to involve anyone else? She turned to face Xin Mengyao. The tears that were just rolling in her eyes now broke like a dam, cascading down her beautiful face.
Shen Siying couldn’t stand seeing Xin Mengyao cry. Her resolve broke in a second. She reached out and pulled Xin Mengyao into her arms, just as she had in high school when Xin Mengyao was made to cry by other Alphas. “Alright, alright, it’s all my fault. But you don’t have to move out, and you don’t have to look for Gu Bei, okay?”
Feeling the person in her arms nod, Shen Siying finally let go. Just as she turned to leave, Xin Mengyao hugged her tightly from behind, her voice so low only Shen Siying could hear: “Don’t go.”
Shen Siying stood frozen on the spot.
In the past, any time Xin Mengyao asked her to stay, it would result in Shen Siying turning back. But this time, she hesitated. Only one face occupied her mind—that face she used to loathe so much. The owner of that face had sweet milky candy pheromones, a love for sweets and meat, and an arrogant streak. Now, the owner of that face cared about everything except Shen Siying.
Inadvertently, Shen Siying heard the sound of hurried footsteps near the stairs, not far from the study. Before she could react, she heard a maid downstairs call out frantically, “Madam!”
Shen Siying’s scalp tingled. She forcefully broke free from Xin Mengyao’s tightening arms and sprinted to the first floor. At the edge of her vision, she saw a familiar back running through the wind, long hair tossed by the gale, a flash of fair, slender waist revealed as she ran.
What did Gu Bei come back for?
What did she see?
By the time Shen Siying reached the copper gates, Gu Bei had already stepped into a bright silver sports car. Shen Siying pounded on the window glass, ignoring her dignity, but the person inside wouldn’t spare her even half a glance.
Shen Siying didn’t give up. She shouted “Bei Bei,” her hands slamming harder, as if she wanted to shatter the glass and drag Gu Bei out of the car. However, she only saw Gu Bei mouth two words: “Let’s go.”
The car roared forward, the exhaust swirling the dead leaves on the ground—and swirling away Shen Siying’s last thread of sanity. She continued to chase, continued to shout. Her high heels were too much of a hindrance, so she simply threw them off and stepped onto the ground barefoot. It was so cold; her entire body felt as if it were freezing into ice.
In the rearview mirror, Gu Bei watched Shen Siying grow smaller and smaller until she became a tiny black dot and disappeared. The driver was Magna. She held the steering wheel with her right hand and rested her left on the car door, glancing at Gu Bei out of the corner of her eye. “Had a lovers’ spat?” she asked casually.
“No,” Gu Bei’s lip twitched, a surge of bitterness rising in her heart. “I’m getting a divorce.”
Gu Bei originally thought she would be happy saying those words, but in fact, she wasn’t. This kind of freedom came with too much bitterness; it wasn’t sweet at all.
“What?” Magna slammed on the brakes. “Did you dump her, or did she dump you?”
Gu Bei was thrown forward by the inertia. After an “Ouch,” she said, “You’re going to scare me to death!”
Magna’s question was hard for Gu Bei to answer. This divorce agreement hadn’t been handed to her by Shen Siying personally, but the signature at the bottom was indeed Shen Siying’s scanned signature. Gu Bei wanted freedom and to pursue her dreams, but seeing this long-awaited divorce agreement left her feeling a sense of loss. So, between her and Shen Siying, she didn’t know who was dumping whom.
Magna’s kindness toward Gu Bei was entirely motivated by her desire for revenge against Shen Siying. Now, if Gu Bei and Shen Siying had nothing to do with each other, wouldn’t her plan fall through? To Magna, if Gu Bei dumped Shen Siying, then Gu Bei still had value; but if Shen Siying dumped Gu Bei, then nothing Gu Bei did would provoke Shen Siying’s jealousy or anger—making her useless.
Noticing Magna’s strange look, Gu Bei asked, “What’s the difference between the two, exactly?”
Magna smiled and shook her head, stepping on the gas to drive again. Regardless, Magna was a businessperson after all; she wouldn’t walk away from money. Now that the girl group had just debuted, with the trending topics Shen Siying bought, the top-tier choreography team, the media hype, and the steady stream of film and variety resources, she would stay by Gu Bei’s side and make money for both of them.
At the office building, Magna immediately got to work as usual, preparing for the afternoon shoot. Seeing Gu Bei, Jian Peiyun stopped her mobile game and skipped over to her. “You’re late today, Boss!”
Gu Bei looked at the puppy-like Jian Peiyun, and her mood inexplicably improved. “I handled something annoying, so it’s okay to be a bit late.”
When Gu Bei smiled, she was truly beautiful—like a cold ice cream in the August heat, or the first cup of warm milk tea in a biting winter. Jian Peiyun was dazed. She reached out a hand and gently pinched Gu Bei’s slightly chubby cheek. “As long as you’re happy, it’s fine.”
