After Transmigrating as the Omega Fiance of the Cannon Fodder Top - Chapter 5
“No way…” Wei Li watched them, feeling increasingly uneasy. He leaned in and whispered to Lu Xingzhou, “Brother Lu, since when did you two get so close?”
Before Lu Xingzhou could answer, Shu Baiyu spoke up: “Just now.”
Facing Wei Li’s incredulous gaze, Shu Baiyu nodded to confirm his own statement: “Just now.”
Wei Li looked at Lu Xingzhou, seeing that the man hadn’t spared him even a glance. When he looked back at Shu Baiyu, his pupils were shaking.
“No way, Brother Lu, are you actually going to surrender to the evils of an arranged marriage?”
Lu Xingzhou finally lifted his eyelids to look at him, offering only two words: “Shut up.”
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Shu Baiyu lower his head. Having finished that sentence, the boy seemed determined to live by the phrase “food is heaven,” and began eating his seafood porridge at high speed.
Lu Xingzhou paused, then shifted his gaze back.
Although Shu Baiyu didn’t explicitly pay them any attention, he had clearly heard their conversation. So, the person next to him really was Lu Xingzhou.
In the book, there were many “cannon fodder” characters who lusted after the protagonist Top and Bottom, but Lu Xingzhou was clearly the one with the best chance—the “Cannon Fodder Top” closest to the protagonist Bottom.
Since Shu Baiyu transmigrated into this book, he had only one mission: fulfill the original ending and ensure the main couple ended up together. Therefore, the method he chose was to get close to the Cannon Fodder Top who posed the greatest threat, then interfere from within and extinguish any thoughts Lu Xingzhou had of pursuing the main lead.
However, the current Lu Xingzhou was clearly cold and distant to everyone, including him. Shu Baiyu didn’t have any complicated plans; he’d just be relentless.
Before long, he finished his bowl of seafood porridge. Turning his head, he saw Lu Xingzhou was still eating in his slow, methodical way.
Seeing this, Lu Xingzhou said, “You can leave first if you’re done.”
Shu Baiyu: “Oh.”
He stayed right where he was. Furthermore, his eyelids, which usually hung low, were uncharacteristically lifted as he silently stared at Lu Xingzhou. After waiting a few minutes, he asked, “Are you finished?”
Lu Xingzhou was clearly done, having spent the last few minutes acting as if Shu Baiyu’s blatant staring didn’t exist. Beside them, Wei Li silently put down his chopsticks: “…Finished.”
Receiving a response, Shu Baiyu picked up his empty bowl and stood up, looking at Lu Xingzhou: “Let’s go together.”
Lu Xingzhou didn’t respond, but Shu Baiyu acted as if he had received an answer and immediately followed behind him. Step for step.
Walking back to the dorms from the cafeteria, Wei Li could still feel the shadow following them like a ghost. At this point, he didn’t even dare to think about the engagement. He swallowed hard and nervously whispered to Lu Xingzhou: “Did you… offend him?”
Lu Xingzhou’s gaze didn’t shift, but Wei Li knew he was watching the person behind them out of the corner of his eye. Wei Li grew more frightened the more he thought about it: “No way, what did you do to him?”
Although Shu Baiyu wasn’t wearing his hood, his long, messy hair was scattered around his face. He kept his head down, the cast shadow completely obscuring his eyes. At first glance, he looked so desolate and gloomy that one might suspect he’d suddenly jump out in a dark alley to slit someone’s throat.
Moreover, Wei Li had recently witnessed Shu Baiyu taking on two Alphas alone. He couldn’t suppress his overactive imagination: “He’s too gloomy, too scary…”
Lu Xingzhou, seemingly unaware of anything wrong, retracted his gaze from behind them and replied: “True. Like a little mushroom.”
Shu Baiyu trailed behind them, walking slowly and looking up occasionally to confirm Lu Xingzhou’s presence. Like a gloomy little mushroom.
Wei Li didn’t know the thoughts in his head; he just felt a chill.
Shu Baiyu followed them all the way to the entrance of the Alpha male dorms. As soon as they arrived, Wei Li took off like a rocket, disappearing hundreds of meters away in an instant, leaving Lu Xingzhou alone to turn and face him.
Since he had followed him this far, Lu Xingzhou asked, “Is there something you want to say?”
Shu Baiyu took a moment to process before giving a flat nod: “Bye-bye.”
“…” Lu Xingzhou paused. “I don’t like being pestered. While I still have some patience, you’d better state your purpose.”
Shu Baiyu looked at him in silence for a while, then turned his head and pointed to the back of his neck: “I don’t know which one to stick on. I want you to choose these things for me.”
His skin was very white, and the pink suppressant patch Lu Xingzhou had chosen during class was still stuck to his neck. Showing it off like this made Lu Xingzhou’s lip line tighten. This was obviously an excuse, and a very half-hearted one at that.
Lu Xingzhou knew it perfectly well, yet when he saw Shu Baiyu turn back to look at him, the words in his throat changed. He fell silent for a moment before actually uttering a different word:
“Fine.”
Thinking the excuse had worked, Shu Baiyu immediately stepped forward and took out his phone: “Add my contact info. It’s convenient.”
Lu Xingzhou hesitated for a second but complied. Finally satisfied, Shu Baiyu’s eyes brightened slightly. He gave a nod: “Bye-bye.”
Lu Xingzhou acknowledged him and watched him leave. In his line of sight, Shu Baiyu lowered his head again, seemingly messing with his phone.
At this moment, Lu Xingzhou became certain of one thing. Shu Baiyu had changed. He had become very… vivid.
Back when the two families arranged the engagement, Lu Xingzhou hadn’t neglected to investigate Shu Baiyu’s background. The results had been consistent: it was as if this person’s life was confined within a few specific labels. Whether in reports or real-life contact, the boy had given him a subtle sense of rigidity.
Until now. Reappearing before his eyes, that subtle feeling had vanished. Suddenly, it was as if the gloom surrounding him had dissipated, replaced by flesh and blood, revealing a version of him that was vivid, lively, and beautiful.
Regardless, this Shu Baiyu made him curious.
After walking Lu Xingzhou back, Shu Baiyu returned to his own dorm. Unlike before, the room wasn’t empty; another Omega was there—the original host’s “best friend” from the book.
Shu Baiyu had read the novel, so he knew this friendship was purely superficial, at least on the friend’s side. In reality, the other party just viewed the host as a “sugar daddy” to leech off of. He even constantly egged the host on after the breakup, leading to the many self-destructive acts the host committed later.
When Shu Baiyu entered, Jiang Min was leaning against Shu Baiyu’s bed, video chatting with someone. Seeing him come in, Jiang Min made no move to get up. Instead, he waved at Shu Baiyu and smiled: “Xiaoyu, I’m thirsty. Pour me a glass of water?”
Shu Baiyu turned his steps and poured the water first. Jiang Min reached out his hand to take it, but saw him place the glass on the desk instead.
Jiang Min: “I’m over here…”
Shu Baiyu faced him: “I’m going to rest.”
The smile froze. An Alpha’s voice came from the phone: “What’s wrong, Minmin?”
Jiang Min maintained his smile as he hung up, then looked up at him: “What’s up? Why so grumpy today? Did Qi Yan ignore you again?”
Shu Baiyu stood in his original posture, silently watching him, and repeated: “I’m going to rest.”
Jiang Min’s smile finally dropped. He got off the bed and grumbled as he walked away. Shu Baiyu ignored him; as soon as he was up, Shu Baiyu stripped the bedding and moved everything to the top bunk within minutes.
Their dorm was a mixed four-person room, but currently, only he and Jiang Min lived there. It wasn’t a standard “bed-over-desk” setup; the positions could be changed. Initially, following Jiang Min’s “convenience” advice, the host had chosen the bottom bunk. Now that Shu Baiyu was here, he decisively moved to the top.
This sequence of actions was a blatant display of distaste for Jiang Min. Sure enough, once Shu Baiyu was up on the bed, a casual glance revealed the other boy’s livid face. Shu Baiyu ignored him and lay down.
He didn’t feel anything strange physically; saying he wanted to rest was just an excuse. Once in bed, he took out his phone and opened the chat with Lu Xingzhou. Seeing no messages, he exited.
From what he knew, the plot had only progressed to the point where the Top (Qi Yan) broke up with the host. The Bottom was still abroad and hadn’t even become intimate with the Top yet. It was still early. That was why he hadn’t actively approached the Top today.
There was plenty of time. His primary task now was to keep an eye on Lu Xingzhou, the Cannon Fodder Top. Thinking of this, Shu Baiyu noted down his strategy in his phone’s memos.

Get close to Lu Xingzhou and become familiar with him.
Step one wasn’t even finished yet.
Perhaps still affected by the “heat precursor,” Shu Baiyu felt drowsy. He fell asleep shortly after lying down. Fortunately, there were no classes all afternoon. He slept until five or six in the evening, only to be woken by a loud door slam.
Opening his eyes, he saw Jiang Min had just left; he was alone in the room. He checked the time and climbed down. For some reason, his eyelids still felt heavy and his head felt groggy.
He walked to the sink to splash his face with cold water. Looking up, he saw himself in the mirror—his neck was covered in red rashes. Shu Baiyu froze, then lifted his shirt to check. It wasn’t an illusion; except for the skin already exposed, many other parts of his body had broken out in rashes.
Allergy…?
He frowned. He hadn’t eaten anything he was allergic to. But the symptoms couldn’t be ignored. After two minutes of thinking, he decided to go to the hospital. Before leaving, he lifted his shirt in front of the mirror and took a photo with his phone.
It was late, so he went to the hospital closest to the school. After a doctor’s consultation and an allergen test, it was confirmed to be an allergic reaction—specifically to the shrimp in the seafood porridge he had at noon.
The doctor prescribed some ointment. As Shu Baiyu left the department and passed another area, his footsteps paused. He suddenly remembered Lu Xingzhou telling him to get his pheromones checked. Since he was already here, a quick check-up wouldn’t hurt.
Before entering the pheromone department, he messaged Lu Xingzhou again.
Shu Baiyu: At the hospital for a check-up.

There was no response. He thought for a moment. To ensure credibility, he sent the allergy photo.

Shu Baiyu: Live shot.
