After Transmigrating as the Omega Fiance of the Cannon Fodder Top - Chapter 6
After sending those messages, Shu Baiyu didn’t receive a reply from Lu Xingzhou before the doctor called his number. He pocketed his phone and walked into the office.
The phone was set to vibrate. After an initial mechanical check-up, the doctor sat back in his chair, looked at the results, and began to inquire.
“When was your last heat?”
Shu Baiyu paused. “Yesterday.”
“Yesterday’s doesn’t count; that wasn’t a proper heat at all.” The doctor shook his head with a frown. “That was just a mild ‘coupling fever’ caused by pheromone disorder. Didn’t you say you felt better by the second day? A real heat period can’t be that short.” He paused, adding, “Even with an Alpha’s help, it’s impossible to recover that quickly.”
The doctor had seen it during the exam. This Omega looked quite well-behaved, but when he unbuttoned his collar, the gland had been marked so deeply. One look told him the Alpha who gave him that temporary mark had a very rough personality. Moreover, it was so late and such an important check-up, yet the partner hadn’t accompanied him. This Omega was truly pitiful.
Furthermore… he looked at the specific marking on the report and felt even more certain.
Yet, despite the doctor’s assessment, the phone in the Omega’s pocket vibrated several times in a row. The boy looked like he desperately wanted to check it.
The doctor pushed up his glasses and said in a meaningful tone, “…You can check your messages first.”
Shu Baiyu didn’t stand on ceremony; he immediately opened his phone. Lu Xingzhou hadn’t replied at first, but now several messages popped up in succession.
Lu Xingzhou: Why are you sending me photos like this?
Lu Xingzhou: Withdraw it.
Lu Xingzhou: …
Lu Xingzhou: You’re at the hospital. What are the results?
Lu Xingzhou: Do a full body check while you’re at it.
Lu Xingzhou: Check your pheromones.
As if worried Shu Baiyu wouldn’t get the hint, he added that last line specifically. Shu Baiyu frowned slightly at the stream of messages—he generally didn’t like people texting him so much—and replied one by one.
Shu Baiyu: Showing you my allergy.
Shu Baiyu: Time limit’s up. Can’t withdraw.
Shu Baiyu: ?
Shu Baiyu: It’s okay. I’ll live.
Shu Baiyu: Oh.
Shu Baiyu: Checking now.
The doctor watched him type with a deep frown. To the doctor, this Omega clearly had a very strict Alpha at home who required real-time reports on everything. He hadn’t seen an Alpha with such strong possessiveness and control in a long time. For the sake of this young Omega, he felt he needed to “educate” the partner a bit.
With that in mind, he looked at Shu Baiyu, who was still staring at his screen, and spoke: “Ahem, Mr. Shu. If the other party is so worried, I suggest you stay on the line with him so he can listen to the diagnosis. It’s fine.”
Shu Baiyu finally looked up, his gaze filled with confusion.
“Just call him,” the doctor urged earnestly. “Call him.”
Shu Baiyu was baffled, but the doctor seemed adamant. Ultimately, he dialed the number Lu Xingzhou had just given him. After a brief ring, the call connected.
Lu Xingzhou’s voice came through, sounding puzzled: “Hello?”
Shu Baiyu kept his confused gaze on the doctor. After a beat, he said, “The doctor suggested I call you. To listen together.”
There was silence on the other end. Then, Lu Xingzhou suddenly asked: “Do you have AIDS?”
“…” Shu Baiyu looked down at the chart. “No.”
He heard Lu Xingzhou’s breath relax for a second. Then: “Rabies?”
Shu Baiyu: “…No.”
“Then what is it?”
“…”
“—Ahem,” the doctor intervened, pulling the topic back. “Since the call is connected, I’ll take a few minutes of your time.”
Following the doctor’s signal, Shu Baiyu placed the phone on the desk between them. The other side was silent, but the screen stayed lit; Lu Xingzhou hadn’t hung up.
The doctor sighed in relief and continued. “…Mr. Shu’s results are in. His heat cycle is extremely irregular, and his pheromone control is very extreme. I suspect they have been suppressed within his body for a long time without release, leading to the current leakage.”
“This is a pheromone disorder. He needs understanding and care from his family. Especially during… intimate moments, you need to pay attention to his mood. You can’t just focus on your own comfort and treat him carelessly.”
As Shu Baiyu was still processing, Lu Xingzhou clearly understood the implication. His voice turned colder: “And if we aren’t ‘intimate’?”
The doctor winced. “Oh, that would be terrible… I suggest it’s better to be a bit more affectionate…”
Lu Xingzhou cut him off and asked Shu Baiyu, “What kind of doctor are you seeing?”
Shu Baiyu glanced at the doctor’s ID badge, but it was partially covered. He lowered his eyes: “An expert.”
Lu Xingzhou: “…”
The doctor, sensing he had struck a nerve, raised his voice to talk over them. “Pheromone disorder can be serious or simple. Serious because it’s hard to cure completely, but simple because the treatment is straightforward.”
“Symptoms include uncontrollable leakage, matching Mr. Shu’s experience last night. This affects the heat cycle, making it irregular. Fortunately, as his partner, the treatment becomes much easier…”
“—Wait.”
Both people on the phone interrupted him simultaneously.
Shu Baiyu corrected him without hesitation: “He is not my partner.”
Lu Xingzhou paused for a second before adding: “We are not in a relationship.”
The doctor froze, his eyes widening. He stammered, “Not… not a couple? How can that be? The report clearly shows your pheromone matching rate is over 90%!!”
And if you aren’t a couple, why did you bite him so hard?
He tremblingly wiped his glasses, put them back on, and leaned in to squint at the report again. He muttered to himself, “That can’t be… over 90%… no… it’s impossible…”
On the other end of the line, Lu Xingzhou went silent for several seconds. Finally, he asked: “…What was the matching rate?”
The doctor answered instinctively: “Over 90%…”
Lu Xingzhou went silent again.
Shu Baiyu frowned and looked at his phone. The screen showed the call was still active, otherwise he would have thought Lu Xingzhou had hung up. Feeling a bit guilty for causing the misunderstanding, he said, “We aren’t a couple. I’m hanging up.” He reached for the phone.
Just before he could end the call, there was the sharp sound of a window opening on the other end. Lu Xingzhou had been in a crowded environment with a noisy background, but now he seemed to have walked into a quiet space. His voice sounded hollow and distant in the silence.
“What is the treatment?”
Shu Baiyu paused. The doctor’s eyes lit up. He was happy to see a patient get treated, and even if they weren’t a couple, they should be friends.
The doctor smiled broadly. “It’s simple. Usually, just find some time to let him be ‘bathed’ in your pheromones. It doesn’t have to be long—every Alpha has their limits, after all. Start with a little bit for a short duration, then gradually increase it until his pheromones stabilize.”
“Furthermore, he will definitely have more leakages. He won’t be able to control them. At those times, you need to be by his side to detect it and suppress the leakage; suppressants usually work. Also, one more thing.”
“Mr. Shu, please keep a record of your monthly heats. Your physical indicators are normal; usually, this wouldn’t happen. Unless… in the past, you were constantly injecting or taking heavy suppressants days before your heat to block it entirely… but Mr. Shu doesn’t look like that kind of person. I’ll keep looking for the cause…”
Having finished the instructions, the doctor adjusted his glasses with a satisfied smile. “Alright, that’s all for now. Thank you both for your cooperation.”
Shu Baiyu stood up, took his report, and was seen out by the doctor.
Outside the office, the call was still active. Shu Baiyu looked at the screen. Lu Xingzhou didn’t speak, but the phone was likely close to his face; Shu Baiyu could hear his slow, steady breathing.
Lu Xingzhou had heard everything—including the doctor’s final guess. In society, there were indeed Omegas who tried to stop their heats by purchasing illegal, high-strength suppressants that had terrible long-term side effects. Usually, those who did this were people who couldn’t accept their secondary gender.
However, in the short time they had spent together, Lu Xingzhou hadn’t detected any self-loathing in Shu Baiyu.
By now, Shu Baiyu had reached the hospital entrance. He checked the screen again and, seeing it was still connected, he finally couldn’t help but say: “Remember to hang up.”
Lu Xingzhou’s wandering thoughts snapped back. “Why…?”
Shu Baiyu said seriously: “The one who hangs up last has to pay the phone bill.”
He had just received a payment notification from the hospital. Checking his bank balance, he realized he had almost nothing left, and the month was only half over. Without extreme budgeting, he wouldn’t survive the month.
“…”
The phone went silent for a very long time.
Finally, Lu Xingzhou found his voice. He seemed to let out a short laugh, though he tried to hide it. “Who told you that’s how it works? The phone company would sue you for slander.”
Shu Baiyu gave an “oh” and lowered his eyelids, mentally calculating the deduction of another phone bill. He didn’t know how the original host spent his money; even though the Jian family sent funds, the original host had stubbornly refused to use them. He should have realized his situation and stopped spending money like water. Now he had even less than he’d had in his previous world.
Lu Xingzhou changed the subject: “Doesn’t the Jian family give you an allowance?”
Shu Baiyu didn’t want to answer, so he skipped it. “Anything else to say?” If he hadn’t been planning to get close to Lu Xingzhou, he would have hung up long ago.
“Yes,” Lu Xingzhou said. “Are you out of the hospital yet?”
“Yes.”
“Good. Come to my house.”
