After Transmigrating as the Scumbag Alpha in an Otherworld Novel, I Ended Up with the Villain - Chapter 26
Su Xinge didn’t waste words. She took two steps forward and pulled Lin Yuxuan behind her.
The long-range sniper who had initiated the ambush had yet to appear; who knew when that person might fire another cold arrow.
Lin Yuxuan retreated, but she suddenly caught a glimpse of red dripping onto the ground from the hem of Su Xinge’s black clothes. She spoke up anxiously, “You’re injured.”
This time, it wasn’t a question, but a statement of fact.
Su Xinge turned her head and replied, “It’s fine. It shouldn’t be too serious. See, I can still move.”
Wang Qingyue looked over, thought for a moment, and said, “There is still one person hiding in the shadows. Do not let your guard down. Use these three as shields in front of us and let’s get back first. Otherwise, the scent of blood is likely to attract other things.”
Su Xinge turned to Zhang Tian and started to speak, “Your body…”
She was worried that if Zhang Tian still had that “scent” on him, mixing it with the smell of her blood might trigger another zombie siege.
Zhang Tian frowned and waved his hand dismissively. “I changed my clothes yesterday. There’s no smell left. Some people just love making something out of nothing.”
The jab was glaringly obvious.
Xiang Tiange’s eyes widened, and she was about to snap back when Wang Qingyue stopped her.
“Stop bickering at a time like this,” Wang Qingyue said while pulling Xiang Tiange along. She then walked over to Su Xinge and took over the two restrained captives from her hands.
Su Xinge let go of her strength and suddenly felt weak. She staggered a step, nearly fainting, but felt a supporting force behind her as someone caught her.
“Thank you,” Su Xinge said, catching her breath.
Lin Yuxuan supported Su Xinge’s shoulder and remarked, “I just don’t want to watch you fall again—you might take me down with you.”
Su Xinge was dressed in all black, so without looking closely, it was impossible to see exactly where she was hurt. Only a careful inspection revealed a damp patch at the back of her waist, marking the wound’s location.
Su Xinge let out a soft laugh. “Then I’m truly troubling you.”
She always felt that Lin Yuxuan was the “sharp tongue, soft heart” type.
Lin Yuxuan curled her lip. “As long as you know.”
Su Xinge’s life was already “reserved” by her; if the woman was to die, it had to be by her hand. She couldn’t let her die in vain to a sniper’s arrow in the dark. Moreover, Su Xinge had been injured this time specifically to save her, so she wouldn’t take advantage of her at such a moment. Besides, she still hadn’t figured out what was behind Su Xinge’s strange behavior.
The group used the captured ambushers as shields, retreating cautiously and quickly.
Ma Dong, with the strength gone from both his arms and now being used as a human shield, felt quite bitter. “You don’t need to be this careful,” he muttered. “His maximum range ends right back there.”
Zhang Tian didn’t loosen his grip; instead, he tightened it. “Oh? You’re selling out your companion pretty fast.”
Ma Dong groaned, “Ow, it hurts… I’m telling the truth! Can you lighten up the grip? And don’t make me walk backward like this.”
Xiang Tiange shot him a glare and scolded, “Stop your chattering! Don’t listen to this guy’s nonsense, who knows what evil intentions he has.”
Zhang Tian asked, “What about the other sniper hiding in the dark? Are we just leaving them?”
Wang Qingyue shook her head. “Get back first, then we’ll talk.”
Suddenly, Zhang Tian’s pupils shrank. He yelled, “Dammit, not good! Zombies are coming!”
As he spoke, his grip tightened instinctively. Ma Dong cried out in pain, “It hurts… gentler, big brother!”
“Shut up!” Zhang Tian shook the man he was holding left and right in annoyance.
Su Xinge looked up. Figures were rushing toward them from the direction of the teaching buildings. At first, there were only one or two, but soon a swarm of zombies gathered and surged forward.
Ignoring the pain and the sniper potentially lurking in the shadows, she focused all her energy on running toward the safe house with Lin Yuxuan.
Splash, splash. Water sprayed into the air.
“What is this…” Ma Dong, who was being dragged backward, watched as the zombies reached the middle of the lake. Instead of continuing to chase the group, they jumped into the water. At first, there were only a few, but soon a loud splashing echoed across the lake. The zombies, like soldiers unafraid of death, threw themselves into the lake one after another, as if celebrating something sacred.
As the lake churned, the small, concentrated patch of red blood from earlier began to diffuse and fade.
Zhang Tian looked back occasionally. Seeing this scene, he said in shock, “What’s going on?”
Wang Qingyue quickened her pace, urging them, “Don’t worry about it, just move! Right now, the scent of blood in the water can help stall them. Once those things realize what’s happening, we’re finished.”
Xiang Tiange pulled a towel out of her backpack and handed it to Su Xinge. “Stanch the bleeding. Don’t lead those things right into the safe house.”
Su Xinge took the towel and pressed it against her lower back. Then, another hand covered hers.
“I’ll help you,” Lin Yuxuan said.
Su Xinge withdrew her hand. “Thank you.”
The pressure on her lower back was firm but careful, adjusting with Su Xinge’s movements. she could feel Lin Yuxuan’s attentiveness.
While the trip out had been relaxed, the return was tense; they made it back to the safe house in less than half the time it had taken to leave.
Inside, the others had been waiting. Hearing the commotion, they rushed out to meet them.
Zhang Tian was in the lead, still dragging Ma Dong. He shouted, “Quick, find some rope! Tie these guys up!”
Seeing this, Su San and the others immediately began rummaging around the shelves.
Ye Hai walked over and asked, “What happened? Is everyone okay?”
Zhang Tian stepped aside. “Look, Su Xinge got hurt—sniped again. But we brought back three of them, didn’t we?”
Su Xinge walked in and explained, “My injury isn’t serious, but there’s still one sniper who got away.”
Xiang Tiange followed behind, smiling. “We owe you big time for the help. No words can express the gratitude. If you ever need help in the future, I’ll definitely be there.”
Zhang Tian lifted his chin and let out a cold snort, remaining silent.
Wang Qingyue walked up to Su Xinge. “Come to the second floor with me to tend to the wound.” She then glanced at Lin Yuxuan. “You can come too.”
Su Xinge said, “It’s just a wound. We don’t need so many people; I can do it myself.” Being watched by so many people while injured felt somewhat inappropriate.
Wang Qingyue replied, “It’s up to you.”
Lin Yuxuan raised an eyebrow and added, “Actually, you do need people. The wound is on your back—you can’t see it yourself.”
Wang Qingyue agreed, “If that’s the case, it’s even more reason for you both to come up.”
Xiang Tiange draped an arm over Wang Qingyue’s shoulder and snapped impatiently, “You’re injured and still rambling? Do you really want my Xiao Yueyue to help you, an Alpha, apply medicine?”
Wang Qingyue calmly brushed Xiang Tiange’s hand off her shoulder.
Su Xinge spread her hands and joked, “It’s not like she couldn’t.” After all, Wang Qingyue was a Beta (and later an Alpha in the original plot), so their “attributes” would clash anyway.
Lin Yuxuan looked up and shot Su Xinge a glance. “You certainly have a beautiful imagination.”
