Chapter 4

Pei Jiuyao had originally planned to order takeout, but she was afraid that Chi Yang would tear her limb from limb when she woke up because of what had happened last night. In the end, she decided to do something to make it up to her.

She drove home, buying some fresh ingredients on the way.

It should have been a good thing that Ying Ning was looking after Chi Yang at the hospital, but Pei Jiuyao couldn’t shake a strange feeling, as though Ying Ning had taken something that belonged to her. The sour feeling in her heart was unbearable.

But Chi Yang always seemed to be in poor condition when she was with her, whereas she was more at ease with Ying Ning.

And… she seemed to be quite close to Ying Ning.

At the thought, Pei Jiuyao pressed her lips together, suppressing the strange feeling. She prepared the ingredients and put them in a pot to simmer, then found a charging port and plugged in her phone.

As she pushed open the bedroom door, Pei Jiuyao thought that the original owner had always had a terrible image and reputation. It was only natural that Chi Yang didn’t like her.

The bedroom was still a mess. Although Pei Jiuyao had changed the sheets, the cabinet Chi Yang had knocked over and the clothes she had torn to pieces were still scattered across the floor.

The lingering scent of strawberries mixed with alcohol was everywhere.

For some reason, the scent made Pei Jiuyao’s breathing quicken. Flustered, she sank to one knee and actually picked up Chi Yang’s clothes and held them to her nose.

The lingering scent filled her nostrils in an instant. She couldn’t help gently closing her eyes, her lashes fluttering like trembling butterflies.

The turmoil and disorder inside her abruptly disappeared.

Pei Jiuyao rubbed her cheek against a slightly rough clasp on the edge of the garment, leaving a few fine scratches on her warm, pale skin.

She opened her eyes. The moment she realized what she was doing, her fingers froze. She quickly threw the garment aside and opened a window to air out the room.

As the cool breeze swept in, Pei Jiuyao rubbed the space between her brows, went to the living room, and sat back down on the sofa to take stock.

Pei Jiuyao: the youngest actress in history to complete a grand slam of Best Actress awards, the youngest pianist and violinist to perform solo on both instruments at the Venus Concert Hall, and winner of the Silver Cloud Award for Album of the Year with her very first album.

She had a wide range of interests, many friends, a happy family, a fulfilling life, and a boundless future.

But she had transmigrated into a cannon-fodder scumbag top.

That would have been bad enough, but she had also inexplicably fallen in love at first sight with the female lead who would eventually drive her insane. Her possessiveness was frighteningly strong. They had been apart for less than an hour, and she had already sneaked back to the bedroom to sniff Chi Yang’s clothes and was even making soup for her.

This was definitely not how Pei Jiuyao usually behaved.

Pei Jiuyao, you’re really sick.

And what on earth was this pheromone suppression bracelet, anyway?!

The memories kept coming in fragments. The original owner might have learned this particular information as a child, so no matter how hard Pei Jiuyao tried, she couldn’t remember it.

Looking at the phone beside her, Pei Jiuyao suddenly realized that when in doubt, she still had modern technology!

Everything had happened so suddenly that Pei Jiuyao hadn’t even thought to look up information about this world.

She quickly picked up the phone and typed “pheromones” into the search bar. Seeing the words “induce heat” displayed prominently on the screen, she fell into thought.

So Chi Yang had been in such poor condition because she had smelled her pheromones? But the information said that only the pheromones of an Alpha with high compatibility could induce an Omega’s heat…

Had her own condition yesterday been caused by pheromones rather than a drug?

Wait!

Omega? Wasn’t Chi Yang an Alpha? Why was Chi Yang, who had an Omega fiancée, an Omega herself?!

The more she thought about it, the more confused she became.

She looked up some more information, but what she found online wasn’t particularly detailed, and she could only piece together a general idea.

Putting down her phone, Pei Jiuyao went to the kitchen and stared blankly at the steam rushing from the pot’s vent.

The original owner had planned to mark Song Mo. How had she ended up with Chi Yang by mistake?

At the thought of Song Mo, Pei Jiuyao’s expression suddenly darkened. The original owner had posted a video of Song Mo in heat online, which meant there was very likely a camera here.

Pei Jiuyao hurriedly put down her phone and searched the bedroom for some time. She found a pinhole camera under a cabinet directly facing the bed.

She took out the memory card and snapped it in two. Knowing that such cameras were usually connected to an electronic device, she also searched her phone for the file and destroyed it completely before finally breathing a sigh of relief.

Phew. One major problem finally dealt with.

When Chi Yang woke in the hospital room, the first thing she saw was Ying Ning in her white coat. Her body reacted instantly, giving rise to an intensely irritating sense of emptiness.

Chi Yang’s gaze was unsettled, flickering like scattered stars as she quickly sat up to look for the familiar figure.

“Where’s Pei Jiuyao?” As soon as the question left her mouth, Chi Yang realized how absurd it was and how badly she had lost her composure.

What did she care where Pei Jiuyao had gone?

Chi Yang irritably ran a hand through her hair and tucked a cushion behind her waist.

Ying Ning, who had been sitting on the sofa, handed Chi Yang the blood test report beside her and leaned against the foot of the bed. “Didn’t you send her home to make soup for you?”

“Oh,” Chi Yang said, a little embarrassed. She idly flipped through the report. “I don’t really care. I was just asking.”

Her eyes finally stopped on the pheromone compatibility rating: 100%. Her whole body trembled, and her gaze darkened at once.

A 100% pheromone compatibility rating meant absolute suppression, with no escape. Was she, Chi Yang, destined to fall into Pei Jiuyao’s hands?

Ying Ning chuckled. “There’s good news and bad news. Which do you want first?”

“The bad news,” Chi Yang said.

From the moment she decided to let Pei Jiuyao mark her last night, Chi Yang had already prepared herself for the worst. Even if the success rate for gland removal surgery was less than 50%, the worst outcome would be for them to die together.

“The bad news is that Pei Jiuyao has evolved again.”

Chi Yang was surprised. “Again? But isn’t she an SS-grade Alpha?”

Ying Ning spoke gravely. “Perhaps it was because she marked you. Or perhaps she was only able to mark you because she evolved. In any case, the test results show that Pei Jiuyao’s grade has risen again. In other words, she’s now the only SSS-grade Alpha in Hai City… no, probably the only one in the entire country. She’s evolved into a ‘Tyrant.’”

“Tyrant? What’s that?”

“Even a temporary mark from her will send an Omega into a prolonged submissive period. The effects include, but aren’t limited to, feeling very empty, as you probably do now, and desperately wanting her to… again.”

Ying Ning’s voice grew quieter and quieter.

Chi Yang knew what she had left unsaid. She was perfectly aware of her own physical condition, but she had initially thought those unhealthy urges were caused by her pheromone imbalance.

“Especially since this is your first temporary marking, your reaction will be stronger,” Ying Ning added. “If you want to relieve the discomfort, you may need another temporary marking from Pei Jiuyao in the near future.”

“And the good news?”

“The good news is that your pheromone compatibility is 100%.”

Chi Yang sneered. “How is that good news?”

Ying Ning explained, “If we can extract a large quantity of Pei Jiuyao’s pheromones, we may be able to make a medicine that cures your pheromone imbalance. Isn’t that what you’ve always wanted?”

Chi Yang’s brows twitched.

If she could be cured… that would be wonderful. Ever since her differentiation, Chi Yang had suffered constant physical torment. Gland removal surgery was only a last resort, after all.

Seeing Chi Yang begin to soften, Ying Ning added, “There were traces of drugs in Pei Jiuyao’s blood. She really was drugged.”

“So she wasn’t lying to me?” Chi Yang lifted her thin eyelids. Almost instantly, the image of Pei Jiuyao’s exceptionally gentle expression that day appeared before her, and her own expression gradually relaxed.

“But someone like Pei Jiuyao…” Ying Ning swallowed the word “scumbag.”

Chi Yang was in the industry and had long been Pei Jiuyao’s sworn enemy. She knew what kind of person Pei Jiuyao was better than Ying Ning did.

But as a doctor dealing with Chi Yang’s extremely sensitive condition, Ying Ning actually hoped she could maintain a positive relationship with Pei Jiuyao.

In the end, Ying Ning decided to tell Chi Yang what she had noticed today.

“Pei Jiuyao showed a pack leader’s territorial instincts toward me today. Her unconscious reaction made me feel like she wanted to tear me apart.”

Ying Ning unconsciously bit her lower lip before continuing, “You know what that means. Alphas only react that way after marking an Omega for the first time, and at the very least, she has feelings for you.”

At the words “feelings for you,” Chi Yang’s lashes trembled, and her heartbeat suddenly quickened. All she could think about was Pei Jiuyao gently murmuring “Don’t be afraid” in her ear.

Her slender, porcelain-white fingers suddenly seized her collar, and she interrupted Ying Ning in an icy voice. “There’s no way.”

There was no way Pei Jiuyao liked her, and no way… this was her first time marking an Omega.

Ying Ning said gravely, “In any case, I’ve told you everything. As for how you handle your relationship with Pei Jiuyao, that’s up to you.”

As the two were talking, a commotion suddenly broke out outside the door. One of the voices sounded like Pei Jiuyao’s. She seemed to be arguing with someone.

Chi Yang glanced toward the door, then quickly threw back the quilt and got out of bed.
